final project the application of the ‘Apartemen Rakyat’ scheme as a redevelopment process of Kelurahan Babakan Ciamis, Bandung mentor: Ir. Achmad Deni Tardiyana, M.U.D.D. Babakan Ciamis is expected to be a meeting place for residents of Bandung City to activate socio-cultural-economy-recreational activities in undeveloped areas. The redevelopment is manifested in the form of the application of people’s apartment schemes by building apartments for social class multi-strata on the same stretch. This redevelopment process will also organize the environment for the better so as to increase the usability of the land, as well as being the answer to the problems of housing backlogs that occurred in Bandung.

social apartment. Social apartments answer the needs of the indigenous people of Babakan Ciamis as affected residents. As part of the law of correspondence, residents who are mostly low-income people get units that are in accordance with their previous conditions. Communities also get adequate social and public facilities. Economic facilities are also provided so that the welfare conditions of the people will increase. The quality of social apartments is also confirmed to be the same as commercial apartments, but with little difference to improve efficiency. Indirectly, the quality of life of the Babakan Ciamis community will also increase.

28

29

commercial apartment. Commercial apartments are the answer to the issue of lack of exposure in this region. With the existence of attractive apartments and commercial facilities, it indirectly attracts residents of Bandung City to come to Babakan Ciamis. Babakan Ciamis will be an active area. Commercial apartments are reserved for middleupper society to create a multi-strata community with social apartments. This multi-level community will also encourage more inclusive interactions without putting aside social classes. Thus provided transition zones in the form of plazas, street-food areas, and social-public facilities to support the activities of the two different strata.

architectural design studio v | 4th year project design of a mixed-use building on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Bandung mentor: (Alm.) Ir. Indra Budiman Syamwil, M.Sc., Ph.D. We aim to design a mixed-use building with the main theme of permeability for pedestrians. Mixed-use in the form of residential and commercial functions is a necessity in order to create 24-hour life in prime locations such as Jalan Ahmad Yani, Bandung so that the facilities that have been designed adequately can be used properly. Access to the surrounding environment should not be left cut off, especially for pedestrians as the main commodity of the future. Moreover, the Kosambi Market, Greko Creative Hub, housing in Cipaera, and commercial facilities in the vicinity can support the occurrence of mixed-use development.

33

Concentration of green space

Concentration of activities

34

Physical Permeability

Visual Permeability

The concept of physical permeability is mainly applied to the ground floor. The circulation is designed to connect the points of social activity in the community today is in the form of commercial activities on Jalan Ahmad Yani and Cipaera, access from Jalan Malabar, and Cipaera housing.

Visual permeability is applied to the podium floors. On the ground floor, there is overall access to see from the tip of the tread to the other end. Visual relationships between floors are made to the maximum by applying void and grand stair. The presence of visual permeability can improve social control and facilitate interaction.

In order to attract attention, the concentration of activity is created as a node that has a plaza as a means of interacting.

This is the maximum mass that can be formed only by reducing the site with the building boundary line.

At two points, the period is subtracted with the limitations in the form of GCA and the needs of the plaza as an area of interaction.

The mass on the ground floor is then raised by a number of podium floors.

To respond to the borderline and human scale, and to make the mass more dynamic, several points are subtracted and functioned as additional green space.

Tower in the shape of 2 letters L made by considering the mass of the podium in order to still have an effective area.

To reduce the heat island, there is green space engineering on several tower floors.

architectural design studio v | 4th year project design of a residential environment in Sukaluyu, Bandung mentor: (Alm.) Ir. Indra Budiman Syamwil, M.Sc., Ph.D. The idea of a housing redevelopment to improve the quality of life, while increasing density as part of efforts to face the growing demand for housing, such as in Sukaluyu, Bandung, was outlined in the design of this regional master plan. The issue of the lack of equal distribution of public and social facilities is a major concern. Small area open spaces are considered to be expanded to increase social interaction between residents.

48

entry for The New Capital of Indonesia (IKN) Design Competition in collaboration with Raka W. Suryandaru, Gigih Nalendra, Meilani Martini, Sudharto Hadi, and Wiwandari Handayani Sepaku City is designed as a living and attractive human-scale metropolitan for its citizens. Sepaku also is designed as a reliable center of government with a strong regional image as the state capital. With the concept of restoration, Sepaku is built in harmony with the nature to restore the glory of Kalimantan as a tropical rain forest with high biodiversity. This compact square-shaped city with a structure that is easily managed and connected by green-blue corridors is Indonesia’s answer to the challenges of climate change and the need for sustainable development.

49

AVAILABILITY OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF LAND The large area of land that can still be developed is a distinct advantage for KIPP. Besides, the location is not in a protected area or densely populated village. Therefore, this land use becomes more efficient.

SUPPORTING ENVIRONMENTAL PHYSICAL CONDITIONS KIPP is located in an area that has ultisol, alfisol, inceptisol, and entisol soil types. Land with these types of soil can still be developed for cultivation activities when compared to peat and coal land. On the other hand, this area has another advantage because it is found in its relatively gentle contour (5-15%).

THE VARIETY OF CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS Accessibility to KIPP can be accessed by land and sea. The sea route is a unique transportation option because of its shorter travel time and views along the river. If compared to Samboja, it doesn’t be an option because it is adjacent to the protected forest, thus limiting urban growth and potentially encroaching into the forest.

SUFFICIENT AVAILABILITY OF WATER KIPP is passed by the river children who embrace in Balikpapan Bay. This increases the risk of flood disaster so that it needs the blue corridor engineering in the form of embung or lake retention. It can be used as a water storage during the rainy season and the dry.

50

GREEN-BLUE CORRIDOR The concept of restoration is translated in the form of supply of the green and blue corridor that connected each others. The green axis is expanded so that the entire city is covered by a green network. Three retention ponds were added to increase the availability of surface water and the attractiveness of the area.

THE CO-BENEFITS OF CLIMATE CHANGE Green-blue corridors contribute greatly to both mitigation and adaptation to climate change. These networks increase carbon stocks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They also increase water absorption, accelerate aquifer filling, prevent erosion, reduce the risk of floods and landslides, provide disaster evacuation space, reduce the urban heat island, and create a cooler microclimate.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS Bus Rapid Transit is chosen because it has lower procurement, operational, and maintenance costs compared to LRT and MRT. BRT also contributes to reduce emissions through the use of clean energy such as electric fuel. Development of public transportation networks will be integrated regionally through intermodal exchanges.

TOUGH CONNECTIVITY To create a resilient system, macro transportation does not only rely on one system but several alternatives, such as land, sea, and river routes.

LAND USE PLAN The mixed use concept is applied to KIPP to support the creation of a compact city that integrates various types of activities in one area so as to minimize community mobility. There are several functions within one building block such as ministerial offices equipped with economic facilities, green open spaces, and health facilities. At the regional scale, the application of mixed use is more diverse. It combines work, live, and play functions.

51

SUSTAINABLE WATER MANAGEMENT USING THE SURFACE WATER Water management in the IKN area avoids the use of wells or ground water. The source of raw water for the KIPP area utilizes two dams in the north, namely the Batu Lepek Dam and the Sepaku Semoi Dam. The location of the KIPP which is downstream of the river also has the potential to provide clean water sources. MAXIMIZING THE CATCHMENT AREA The hilly topography of the IKN area can be utilized for the management of water systems. The concept of water treatment in IKN is maximizing the catchment area in the hills and prioritizing water cycles. The function of the recharge area is maximized to slow the water runoff and store water to be processed and reused.

52

HILLY AREA

WATER BASIN

The concept of water absorption in hilly areas (spongy mountain) focuses on nature-based adaptation systems that maximize water capture, storage, and reuse to minimize the negative impact if water runoff in downstream areas.

The varied topography in the IKN delineation area has resulted in the formation of ponds or basins that can be used for optimization of the water systems.

DOWNTOWN Handling water systems in downtown areas maximizes storage and slows down the rate of rainwater to relieve pressure in downstream areas.

53

09 sangga darana. ‘sangga: anchor; darana: center of mind’

54

entry for Arsitektur Nusantara Propan 2019 Design Competition in collaboration with Faza N. Sudarwan, Kania A. Ulfa, and Rayi Ruby The Information Center is a very important place in the delivery of information about Borobudur tourism. As an anchor of information, the Information Center must have the values contained in the philosophical meaning of Borobudur, and be a place for visitors to interact. The Information Center is also a means of preserving local culture and customs.

Borobudur Temple was designed through three main concepts namely MOON (mind), LAKE (natural-human relationship), and LOTUS (life). PHILOSOPIHCAL Information Center as a place to exchange ideas (MOON) Borobudur Temple consists of three main parts namely arupadhatu (head), rupadhatu (body), and kamadhatu (feet). The Information Center is designed to have a tripartite shape adjusting the structure of the temple space.

FUNCTIONALITY Information Center as a place to interact and socialize (LAKE) Borobudur Temple Stupa has a unique shape with a very deep meaning. With various levels, in general, the shape of stupas resemble each other. The shape has a peak to symbolize the meeting point between nature, humans, and God.

CONTEXTUALITY Information Center as a place to preserve culture (LOTUS) The buildings in the Borobudur Complex mostly use Joglo roofs. The Information Center is also designed to use the Joglo house structure to maintain the regional context.

SANGGA DARANA

Information Center as a representation of Borobudur Temple (terraced mountain or Bhumi Sambhara Budhara) The buildings inside the Borobudur Complex as large use the roof of the Joglo house. The Information Center is also designed to use the Joglo house structure to maintain the regional context.

55

ZONATION CONCEPT The zoning function of the Information Center symbolizes the philosophical level of the Borobudur Temple. Zoning is divided into three main groups. 1. Arupadhatu (main), are the main functions that are accommodated such as information areas. 2. Rupadhatu (middle), are supporting functions such as the visitor lounge, administration room, management room. 3. Kamadhatu (low), is a service function of buildings such as reception, prayer rooms, and bathrooms.

STRUCTURE AND MATERIAL CONCEPTS The main structure of the building uses concrete and wood, especially the intercropping structure commonly used in Joglo houses. Other materials used include glass, natural stone, brick, and shingles. The concept of material is locality and sustainability so that all materials are obtained from building material providers around Magelang and Yogyakarta with a travel distance of 3-14 km and a travel time of 10-90 minutes.
