DESIGN PROPOSAL Home is a something which can’t be defined and has a very subjective meaning to it with all of us having varying perspectives on our ‘homes’. Ultimately many of us would relate it to an abode of comfort and complete peace. Owing to our sedentary lifestyles modern day homes, buildings and settlements alike which don’t enable citizens to interact with one another, leaving us trapped in our own bubbles. “Home wasn’t a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go” . To create is to conquer and we human beings try to feel homely wherever we go. Resorts all over the world showcase a variety of facilities and functions available to guests that help visitors experience a homely feel in their culture. Hotels, home-stays and resorts started off as a basic concept for a person to stay temporarily with basic requirements and over the years that concept has evolved. In the 21st century poverty and consequent homelessness is rampant; homeless people travel day in and day out or staying in a foreign area for a while and for them it is a must to bring in comfort and warmth. Most places have got that concept straight but with luxury comes an exorbitant price and not all can afford it. Some places tend to make themselves stand out from their field that creates a completely different atmosphere and doesn’t help improving the scenario. Some spaces go over the board forgetting the cological impact they are making. Ideally speaking having an organic feel and flow to the space is the best as it gives the user (here: guest, visitor) to indulge holistically in local heritage. This evokes a feeling of inner tranquillity and also spontaneously brings various communities together. Srirangapatna is a town located towards the south of Karnataka with rich history and culture. Right from the beginning this town was well known for their religious aspects which later on became the capital during the provincial era and today is a tourist destination which is not known to all but has tons of potential. Through this project I intend to make the space a lot more interactive which would enhance the space up and bring the sense of calmness. The resort will be overlooking a river which would not only provide an aesthetical view but also give an opportunity to have multiple activities in and around it. The area overall would have an authentic yet a modern feel to it giving the place an ‘in time’ touch and should bring people close as closer the community.
