A Place For Every ing

Chari Residence | Chie Design

The renovation of a 2BHK flat in the heart of Bombay for a family of four to completely transform the space.

The clients requested that everything in their home life as well as their professional life has a place in this home.

Tied together through soft arches that slightly enclose all the open spaces to created a designated areas while remaining light and open. Each room had unique challenges that drove the design forward from storage to functionality to movement.

From demolition to detailing, I worked on design concepts, its manifestation, its rendering formations and its construction drawing package. Using a mix of fresh and earth tones while also layering texture in the design and in the soft furnishings to complete the space.

Night & Day Facade

Design | Chie Design

This single story bungalow lies at the heart of the Bombay. The facade was a result of the interior functions. The aim was to create a layered, eye-catching facade that draws ones eye while passing by.

The warm colours and graphical lines created by the available sizes of the materials played into the design of the facade.

The rhythm of this graphical pattern continues in the lighting of it. The warm tones make the home inviting and approachable while making it opulent as well.

A touch of greenery breaks the inorganic pattern to brighten the look of the facade during the day. The transformation from day to night comes together seamlessly through the layers of design principles.

Framed Corridors

Institute Of Ornamentation

Understanding the principles of ornamentation through nature. By studying the how has nature developed ornamentation through geometry and the forces that form it, through lines, planes, addition, subtraction and assembly, adding dimension to the how one can experience ornamentation.

The Institute Of Ornamentation took into account the heritage and history of AspenWall in Fort Kochi. Each space had to have its own identity while also falling into the larger blanket of the institute The ornamentation began with a detail that resulted in a larger element of ornamentation. They came together in the larger theme of the Framed Corridors. The institute is a maze of a different types of corridors, according to the activities within the space, the type of element’s forms vary. Ornamentation was achieved using the processes of the previous modules. From the line to the formation of an ornamented space. Like the layers of the program, there are several layers of ornamentation in each and every space to come together an make the institute.

Escher,s Modulation

Exhibition Panel | Workshop Studio

Understanding and implementation of modulation from Escher by deriving the points, lines and grids from his seminal work and translating it into the design a modular exhibition system. Further guided by parameters that students use such as standard paper sizes and model sizes, accounting for the cone of vision, a grid is formed to became the base of the design and the manner of modulation testing how flexibility is based of limitations.

This modulation has a triangular grid that ensuring that the exhibiting space is utilized to its maximum potential through a single module or a connected one.

Designing proceeded to making a 1:1 functioning prototype of the system; testing the idea and the details.

2016-Present | Mixed Mediums

Selected works that display the various mediums through which I capture and learn how light, water, built form and nature come together in my surroundings and how they interact with one and another to create frames.

They include : Door details measure drawn and drafted during a winter school based the study of pol houses in the Old City of Ahmedabad. Learning how to not only document historical site but also study the making of the same.

Sketches done over the years, using it to form an analysis by studying its details while being drawn.

Moments captured when passing by something seemingly ordinary and discovering the extraordinary in it.

Double doors with a security gate of a Pol house in the heart of the old city in Ahmedabad.

This Historical home was documented by a group of 12, measure drawn and hand drafted.

The study of this door brought in the light the use of details in integrated ornamentation.
