October 2013

Greetings! Another great event has come and gone! Special thanks to our chairman, Dave Van Buskirk for his investment during the festival. Responsibilities of an event chairman require multiple hours and they wear many hats! From the first planning session to sweeping the streets during clean up! Dave was on top of things for the entire event. Chairman Dave Van Buskirk expressed his gratitude to his committee, staff, sponsors (listed in this publication), festival partners, businesses, vendors, visitors to the festival and every person that invested their time and talents to make the event a success. Special thanks to Ricky Tipps WCDT for organizing/manning Davy’s Stage on Saturday, WZYX for broadcasting live all day Saturday. Dave also expressed pride in this years youth activities largely due to Phil Stitch, ATA Aerospace Testing Alliance, Andy Davis Home Depot and Carol Fulmer Interlocal Solid Waste. Every youth activity was educational focusing on STEM and having FUN! This years Bear Hunt teaching, how to read a map and a banking experience with Citizens Community Bank exchanging play money for the real thing! Thank you to….Student Volunteers from Huntland Interact & Franklin County High School: Katie Sanders, Jordan Sells, Allison Bennett, Casey Lopez, Victoria Neal, Vaden Hines, Abbie King, Gabriel Loper, Daci Barnes, Tyler Strope, Cameron Brannon, Cole Isbell, Lori Ayers, Lexi Reed, Katlyn Council, Bridget Woodall, Brandon Campbell, Rayce Kennedy, Callie Perkins, Jose Garcia, Holly Wortman, Tori Williams, Tara Cates, Abbie Williams, Heather Quintanilla, Elizabeth Knies, Tori Hinshaw, Andrew Pruett, Mikalla Trussell, Tiffany Owens, Will Rector, Rahul Patel, Cameron Mahaffey, Charlsie Garrett, Jesse Garrett, Brittany Kircher, and Cole Ashley. Community Service is a great gift … “ Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop”. Dorothy Height Andrew Kastner, Manager of Sherwin Williams and Chamber Ambassador was our youth scheduler for the event. Andrew made a difficult task look easy and kept every youth assigned to a workstation with instructions. Thank you Andrew!

Mayor Joyce Brown and the city of Cowan leadership, Police Chief Alan Edwards, Fire Chief Tommy Myers, Eric Trussell EMA, and the citizens of Cowan. Polly’s Black Bears are tucked away and hibernating for another year. Until next year a very special THANK YOU...THANK YOU….THANK YOU! To every individual that volunteered in amount of time.

Now Open: Coverage available to all through new Health Insurance Marketplace After much anticipation, the time is here. As of October 1, 2013, nearly 50 million uninsured Americans across the country can apply for affordable health care coverage through the now-open Health Insurance Marketplaces. In Tennessee, our Marketplace is run by federal government and is located online at www.healthcare.gov. The new Health Insurance Marketplace is like an online shopping platform for health insurance. After completing one simple application, you will be able to see a comprehensive list of the plans available in our area and be informed if you qualify for newly-available government subsidies offered to qualified individuals to help offset the expense of health insurance. It’s easy. It’s transparent. And it offers coverage at a variety of affordable and competitive price points. Here are a few additional benefits you should know about the new Marketplace: - Nobody can be denied for a pre-existing condition. Nobody. - Many people will qualify for subsidies. The government is providing varying levels of funding to assist people with incomes ranging from 100% to 400% of the Federal poverty level. - While there are several types of plans and levels of coverage available, there is a core set of essential health benefits that must be covered by every plan. These include: o Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care you get without being admitted to a hospital) o Emergency services o Hospitalization o Maternity and newborn care (care before and after your baby is born) o Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment such as counseling and psychotherapy o Prescription drugs o Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices that help people with injuries, disabilities, or chronic conditions gain or recover mental and physical skills o Laboratory services o Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management o Pediatric services “Southern Tennessee Medical Center and Emerald Hodgson Hospital understand that all of these new opportunities can be overwhelming to understand and navigate, and we want you to know that we’re here to support you in the application process and in determining in which plans your local health care providers are included”, said Phil Young, CEO. If you are interested in enrolling in health insurance through the Marketplace, we can help you. Call us at 1-888-982-9144 to speak with a Certified Application Counselor 24 hours a day/7 days a week or to schedule an appointment for in-person assistance at STMC or EHH. Also, you can simply stop by our registration desk Monday-Friday during normal business hours for help. Still have questions? Reach us via e-mail at SouthernTN.CAC@lpnt.net, or visit www.southerntennessee.com for more information. Coverage purchased through the Marketplace is effective January 1, 2014, and you can enroll anytime between now and March 31, 2014. I hope you will explore the options available to you through this important new resource.
