EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’s UPDATE... Greetings & Happy 2018! This is my favorite time of the year for several reasons. There is an excitement in the air with a fresh start on a new year and time to reflect on accomplishments and lessons learned from the past year. New and current board members begin to evaluate and set goals for the program of work. In addition there is extensive discussion regarding launching better promotional products, programs and services that lead to increased revenue and business growth for you our members and our community. Four major programs that will be retained and meet the criteria are Leadership Franklin County, Retire Tennessee participation for the 6th year, the Business EXPO and Casino Night.

Leadership Franklin County Leadership Franklin County, Wednesday, January 10th, Courts & Public Safety Day. The day begins at the Tennessee National Guard Armory with a presentation by Sgt. Major Adam Davis including demonstrations of equipment by military staff. Next a quick walk to the bunker including tours of Emergency Management and the Consolidated Communications Center. Each tour includes presentations from Scott Smith and Kathy Blazier in the “Briefing” room. After a tour of the jail, we return to the Armory for a presentation by Josh Hunt, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agent. District Attorney Mike Taylor will provide an overview of the court process. Following lunch the class will tour the Franklin County Judicial Center including presentations by Circuit Court Clerk Robert Baggett, Sheriff Tim Fuller, Investigator Chris Guess and Judge Tom Faris. Next we will tour the Chancery Courtroom with a presentation by Chancellor Jeff Stewart. Final presentation back at the Armory will be David Street, FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation. Special thanks to each professional for taking time to address the 2018 class of Franklin County Leadership.

Retire Tennessee The contract for 2018 is signed and Franklin County is officially on board for another great year as a Retire TN Community. It is an honor to represent our county in the state of Tennessee at the Ideal Living EXPO’s marketing best places to retire in our great state. What an incredible opportunity for our county to be in the Retire Tennessee program working with State Director Ramay Winchester and Commissioner of Tourism Kevin Triplett. This month I will travel with the state team to Chicago and have an opportunity to sell our community to retirees. Ramay Winchester commented, “Franklin County entered the program in 2012 and the Chamber has done a tremendous job of touting the resources and amenities in beautiful Franklin County”. “The success of this program is evidence of Tennessee’s remarkable quality of life. Our Retire Tennessee counties are the crown jewels in attracting new residents that bring even more vitality to our state, “Winchester said, “

www.buzzsguns.com

Special thanks to member, friend and neighbor, Buzz Costa owner of Buzz’s Guns who came to our rescue during the holidays! Our flags were stuck at half mast and after several attempts by different individuals, Buzz took time to fix the problem! Our flags are no longer stuck and your staff will do our best to follow proper flag procedures! Ben Boswell donated their antique flag pole to our Chamber in 1997 when Jeff Gamble donated the Chamber building and land. Your Chamber is truly a gift from members and people who saw a need and had a vision for our community to have a Chamber that would quickly become the heart of our community. Member after member steps up and meets the needs to keep our Chamber building, programs and representation strong and viable for Franklin County

Thank you Buzz!!!

Active retirees relocating to these communities help stimulate the economy, while bringing their knowledge and time to actively invest in their new home.” Franklin County averages 700 leads monthly from the co-op advertising with the Retire Tennessee program.

26th Annual Business Expo The date to mark on your calendar is April 5th for the 26th Annual Franklin County Chamber Business EXPO. Location to be announced. “This is the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your business” commented Kip Commons, Chair for the event. Kip and his committee are preparing another great event. Registration and information will be posted on the Chamber web site, as soon as details are finalized. All booths will be assigned as registrations are received due to the new location.

Casino Night…date to be determined….call with your suggestions for a theme and date! We welcome back Gerardo Leon, Nissan North America-Infiniti as Chamber President for a second term. The Board of Directors will finalize the 2018 program of work at the January board meeting. Please call Gerardo, any board member, or me on my cell 308.6098, if you want to be more involved or have suggestions. This is your Chamber and we are here to support and promote you...our members!
