Greetings... Proud to introduce you to your new executive director, Susan Wallace. Susan joined the chamber staff on Monday July 2nd and will assume the role of executive Director on August 1st. and my last day as your executive director will be July 31, 2018. Susan’s full press release is included in this edition for you to get
familiar with her
background and goals Make a special effort to drop by the Chamber and meet Susan. After 26 years of serving as your Executive Director, I am retiring and want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to work with amazing staff, prestigious board members from all walks of life, volunteers and most of all the business community. The journey has been full of opportunities. I have been honored to meet members of the Tennessee Supreme Court, flown to Knoxville to meet with Coach Phillip Fulmer, driven a race car at the Bristol Speedway and attended a Readiness and Preparedness Conference in Washington, DC after 911. I met amazing Police & Fire Chiefs, that actually experienced the horrific events on that tragic day in New York when the Twin Towers collapsed. Chamber directors wear many hats, experience all types of personalities, connecting the dots, and watching great things happen. As I embark on a new path, I take with me so many treasured memories, experiences, and relationships that will live in my heart forever. I encourage each Chamber member that the next time you need a business service, to call or email your Franklin County Chamber of Commerce staff. You will receive quality service, referrals and interconnectivity that we all share. Members working together promote a strong voice with our elected officials. By shopping Chamber members first, we build a stronger business community. Welcome your new executive director, Susan Wallace. Please support and encourage Susan in her new role as the Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you Big D! Thank you for your friendship, loyalty, strong work ethic, amazing skills and the ability to sell anything to anyone. Most of all for your friendship. Delores, Kayla and Karlie are colleagues I respect and love as if they were family. Working together for 8 hours a day, five day a week, we become extended family. Delores has been the voice you heard all these years asking for your support financially, the past 19 years. With Delores we have been blessed to have Jerry, who consistently, picks up the mail, empties the garbage, vacuums the entire Chamber and hangs flags on holidays! He is a tremendous asset for each of us and a true gentleman! We are never allowed to carry anything or open a door in his presence! He worked every event with the staff, selling tickets, set up, clean up, whatever needed. You both, will be missed.
Warmest regards,
Judy D. Taylor
Your friends forever,
Kayla, Karlie and Judy

Chamber Welcomes New Executive Director Susan Wallace After a competitive search, Gerardo Leon, president of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Board of Directors have named Susan Sinclair Wallace of Rome, Georgia, as the new executive director for the Chamber. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Wallace’s background working in chambers of commerce in San Antonio and in a rural county in Vermont were important strengths of her candidacy as was her expertise in marketing communications for nonprofit organizations. Wallace comes to her new position in Franklin County after owning and managing a natural foods business with her husband. She says, “As a business owner, I developed a clear understanding of the value and benefit that being a chamber of commerce member can bring, not only to individual business owners but to the larger community. I have worked for two chambers in the past and I got to experience the services and positive recognition of being a chamber member. It provided me perspective from both the chamber side and the chamber member side” Wallace spent nine years working for the Department of the Air Force as a senior public affairs office while living in Texas. She helped develop and maintain strong community relations between Randolph Air Force Base and the civilian communities that surrounded the base. She was recognized as the Civilian Public Affairs Officer of the Year for three consecutive years. Leaving Texas, she taught marketing at the University of Vermont where she also worked as the marketing communications manager. She left the University of Vermont to lead the Grand Isle County Partnership, a nonprofit organization focused on business and community development in an underserved county in rural Vermont. She was later named interim executive director of the Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce, an organization that eventually became part of the larger Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce in Burlington, Vermont. She owned a communication firm in Connecticut where her client base was exclusively nonprofit organizations that included the Hartford Public Library System, The Connecticut Commission on Children, and the Connecticut Rural Development Council. Accepting a position at Iowa State University, she taught English and marketing communications to undergraduates and to adults in continuing education classes. “I was weary of living where it often snowed five months of the year. I left my snow shovel behind when I moved to Georgia to become a retail business owner. I am a southerner by heart and disposition so leaving ‘the great frozen north’ to come back south was a pleasure,” Wallace says. In accepting the executive director position at Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Wallace said,” My husband is a Sewanee alumnus and we were planning to move to Middle Tennessee before I was selected for the FCCC position. David has always loved the Franklin County area and we have visited often. I came to love it, as well. I am honored to bring my experience and skills to the Chamber and to serve and promote business and industry in Franklin County.” Wallace’s new role overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Chamber begins July 2. She will work alongside Judy Taylor, the current executive director until Taylor leaves the position in late August after more than 25 years. “I am pleased and more than grateful that Judy has decided to stay on to guide me through my first months at the Chamber. The experience and knowledge she will share with me will be invaluable and I am committed to carrying her legacy into the future “
