Greetings! Since last month’s update, the Leadership class of 2014 has come to a close with graduation on March 13th. Twenty Nine participants received diplomas and join an elite group of 437 alumni. Every graduate is challenged to find a place to be involved and apply their knowledge of community development. See photos of the evening in this edition of the Franklin Times. The EXPO has come and gone but the referrals and business contacts are only beginning! For vendors, there are follow up calls to potential customers and for visitors to the event, there are many more options to explore the great businesses in our area. Special thanks to every visitor, vendor, the Cowan Police Department, Auxiliary Police and to Home Depot for the main door prize. Also thanks to everyone that purchased advertising in local media to market the event and to WZYX for being on hand all evening, conducting vendor interviews, etc. Attendees were essential to the success of the Business EXPO. The event was a sell out and an exciting evening There’s No to watch unfold as exhibitors began to arrive. From automobiles, to swing sets, there was Business Like something for everyone! The booths were Your Business! creative and the judges faced a difficult decision awarding the best booth with a Blue Ribbon.

2nd Place: Bradford’s Nursery & Landscaping Matt Bradford designed his booth. Matt with the assistance of his crew pulled it together like magic to win 2nd place. Matt’s booth was designed around the perfect fire pit in the center of an inviting garden. Spring was evident as you strolled by Matt’s booth. Special thanks to Chairman Sam Henley and Vice Chair B.J. Rigsby for their professional leadership in executing the event!

George F. Bowers, DVM “Parasite Protection”

It is springtime in Franklin County, which means warmer weather, flowers…and the return of fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Now is the time to protect your furry friends from those bothersome parasites and the dangerous diseases they spread. Ticks are already out and about, and these parasites carry diseases such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichia and Lyme Disease—all of which can sicken both pets and people. By using a good tick control product on your pets, you keep them and your family safe, because a protected pet won’t bring ticks inside. Fleas are the number one cause of itchiness and skin infections in dogs and cats, and fleas carry Bartonella and Mycoplasma, two microscopic parasites that can sicken or kill dogs, cats, and people. Quality flea control is well worth its price, because it prevents expensive and uncomfortable skin infections. All pets, indoors and outdoors, should be on a good flea preventative product. Mosquitoes are difficult to control, and they spread heartworms, which are fatal to dogs and cats. You can reduce mosquito number by removing standing water or using mosquito “dunks” in birdbaths and livestock water tanks. Unfortunately, complete elimination of mosquitoes is impossible, so the only way to protect your pet from heartworms is to give them a preventative every 30 days year-round. Your veterinarian is always the best resource to suggest the right parasite control products for your pets. Call us today!

Office Location: Animal Care Center George Bowers, DVM 1626 Sharp Springs Road Winchester, TN 37398 967-6345 Office Hours: Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
