About PLUSStores Plusto Stores are a special part of Plusto where individual sellers can show you all of their listings and tell you more about their business through their own customized pages. A PLUSStore is a completely free service available to all registered members on Plusto. Some users do use their PLUSStore as their website address (http://stores.plusto.com/storename), however this is not recommended as users can easily browse away from your PLUSStore. Buyers that click on the PLUSStore icon on any of your listings will be taken to your own customised PLUSStore. Once buyers have had a pleasant experience transacting with you, they will start actively seeking out your products or services and may visit your store instead of browsing through all of the Plusto listings.

CHAPTER 4: CREATING A PLUSTO WEBSITE This guide will take you through the process of setting up and managing your Plusto website. The process involves the following steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Creating a Plusto Website Registering and transferring a Domain Designing your Website Editing your Website Pages Changing your Website Preferences Setting up your Product Categories Managing your Website Banners

To create a freestanding website through Plusto you need to: • •

Own a Website Domain Be a registered seller on Plusto

Plusto will need to host your website on our servers in the USA, to allow us to completely integrate our system into your website and provide you with all the unique features such as multi language support, currency conversion, CargoKey Integration, WorldTariff Integration, FedEx Integration, Google News feeds and more. Web Definitions Domain Name: The name that identifies a website. (Like: plusto.com) URL: Abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator - the address of a web page on the World Wide Web. Sub Domain URL: A URL where the website is a sub-domain of a primary website. Example: A website with the URL http://furnigo.plusto.com is a sub domain of http://plusto.com. Domain Extensions: Country domain names are sometimes referred to as Country Code TLDs (Top Level Domains). Each country has its own domain extension assigned to it, generally designated with two letters. Appendix A shows a list of Countries and their related domain extensions, as well as links to where you can register domains for each domain extension. If you wish to start a Plusto Sub-Domain website, you do not need to own a domain as the website address will be http://username.plusto.com. Plusto does not register domains, and the domain that you own or register will always belong to you. Should you decide to stop using your Plusto Website in the future, you will be in control of your domain. To create a website on Plusto: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

8

Chapter 5: REGISTERING AND SETTING UP A DOMAIN Plusto does not register or transfer domains for you. Your domain is your property and you need to register, transfer and manage your domain yourself. We recommend that you use the links provided in Appendix A at the bottom of this document to register your domain. If you are registering a .com, .net or .info domain we recommend you make use of www.godaddy.com or www.register.com, to register and manage your domain. Getting started with Domain names First things first...why do you need a Domain name? Domain names are a human friendly version of a website address. Without a Domain name, you would be stuck with a load of numbers. Not great for marketing purposes! So we use Domain names to identify sites. When choosing your Domain name you should select a term people will use to search for your site. Most obviously, this could be your brand or personal name. What is a domain name? Put simply a domain name is the address that people use to find you or your company online; it's what you type in the browser's address bar to go to a specific website. For example, our domain name is: http://www.plusto.com (in today's browsers, it's not necessary to type the symbols http://). What do I do once I own a domain? Once you own the domain that you want, you need to ensure that the domain is hosted on our servers in the USA, to enable us to provide you with all the tools mentioned in the chapters above. You should be able to manage your Domain Name Server setting on the website where your domain was registered. If you already have a website, but wish to change it to a Plusto website, you need to change the Domain Name Server (DNS) settings for the domain. The DNS setting for your domain must be: Nameserver 1: NS01.GLODNS.NET Nameserver 2: NS02.GLODNS.NET It may take a few days for your DNS settings to reflect on our servers, and as soon as they do your website will be available on your domain. Important: You can continue with the other steps such as Designing your Website, Editing your Website Pages, Changing your Website Preferences and Setting up your Product Categories. These details will all be saved on our system and will be implemented as soon as the DNS settings of the website have been affected.

9

10

Web Definitions Browser Title - The browser title appears in the bar at the top of your browser window. This is the title used: • • •

when people bookmark your pages on tabs, when you have several tabs open within a browser in search results within Google and other search engines.

Meta Title - This is a title you give your page within the Meta tags so that when a person sees a link to your page from the search engine it has a title to go with it. Keywords should be used in this title because the search engine will use the words in the title to help it index your page. Guidelines for Creating a Meta Title For starters, the Meta title should always be typed with the first letter of each major word capitalized, in the style known as Title Case. This means everything is capitalized except for smaller words like "for", "is" and "a". If you run into discrepancies, consult a reference on Title Case. Make sure every page on your site has a unique Meta title. It may sound straightforward, but you'd be surprised how many pages do it. This hurts your SEO marketing scheme as it disallows you from indicating the independent and unique keywords and content associated with each of your pages. Be specific. If you're writing a Meta title for your home page, never use simply "Home" or "Index Page". Remember, your Meta title has to draw in viewers from the search results pages, so the Meta title should tell your viewer, as well as the search engine, what each page is about specifically. Pay attention to length. Google will crop your Meta title on the results page after 66 characters, but Yahoo won't crop your title until 120 characters. To get the best results for both of these prominent engines, try to make your Meta title have a primary and secondary length. Try to get a full sense of the main focus of the site within 66 characters, and then secondary information to read in Yahoo. Make sure that you don't leave words or phrases cut off in the middle. Find shortcuts too, such as using "&" instead of the word "and". And finally, be sure to include at least one primary keyword in the Meta title of each page. As mentioned before, the crawlers pay special attention to the Meta title, so be sure to take advantage of the opportunity for search engine marketing. The Meta title is the most important of the Meta tags, and therefore they can be valuable SEO tools for web optimizers. Meta Description – Though Meta Descriptions are not a major factor search engines consider when ranking sites, they should not be left off the page. Both the Meta keywords and the Meta description contribute to your search engine ranking, and the Meta description tag influences the likelihood that a person will actually click on the search engine results page and visit your site. The Meta description is intended to be a brief and concise summary of your page's content. Think of the Google directory. You see your site title followed by a brief description of your site or business. The Meta description is designed to provide a brief description of your site which can be used by search engines or directories.

11

Meta Keywords - Long ago in Internet time, the Meta keywords tag was very useful in helping pages to win on search engines. Unfortunately, so many unscrupulous webmasters have abused the Meta keywords tag that search engines have had to deemphasize their importance. Still, you should not leave the Meta keywords tag off your pages. Meta keywords tags should adhere to the following guidelines: (1) keep your list of keywords or keyword phrases down to 10 15 unique words or phrases; (2) separate the words or phrases using a comma (you do not need to leave a space between words separated by commas); (3) do not repeat words or phrases; (4) put your most important word or phrases at the beginning of your list. WEBSITE DESIGN You can refine the design of your website in the Website Design section under My Website in My Plusto. It is not necessary for you to create pages for your product or service catalogue, as these are automatically updated on your site when you list your products and services on Plusto. For more information on listing products and services on Plusto, see User Guide for Sellers. To Edit your website pages, click on My Pages in the My Website section of My Plusto.

The pages that are displayed under Page Title are the default custom pages for all Plusto Websites. They form the top menus for your website. Further sub-pages can be added can be added to Side Menu Items in exactly the same way that Sub-Pages are added to Top Menu Items. In the example below, the names of the partners are displayed when Our Partners is selected.

Six Levels of Sub-Pages can be built in exactly the same way, creating a hierarchy of content for your site.

Important: Do not use the My Pages section to create listings for your products or services. Products and services are dealt with separately and are according to your Category Hierarchy (Discussed in the next chapter), and are loaded through Plusto, to automatically be displayed on your website.

16

CHAPTER 8 : SETTING UP YOUR PRODUCT CATEGORIES Setting up your product and service hierarchy is an important part of creating your website. When you list your products on Plusto there is a product hierarchy of over 49000 categories in a logical structure that allows users to browse easily and find the products that they are looking for. You are also able to set up your own product hierarchy for your website, and when you list your products, you will select the Plusto category as well as the category for your own website. This allows you to have a comprehensive category break-down that suits your business. For example: If you are a Stationery Wholesaler, and you are listing Mechanical Pencils, you will be able to list them in the following category on Plusto: Office Equipment, Supply > Stationery & Small Equip > Pencils > Mechanical Pencils Because you specialise in Stationery, you may wish to create categories which specify the brand of the Mechanical Pencil, and so you are able to create categories for Pentel, Cross, Lamy and Waterman brand pencils. You are able to set up your Category Hierarchy under the My Website section of My Plusto.

It is optional to use this feature on your website. If you choose not to create your own Category Hierarchy, then the Plusto Hierarchy will be used. To create your Category Hierarchy (Please read the Important Notes below before starting): 1. Click on My Categories in the My Website section in My Plusto st 2. Start by adding your 1 Level Categories by entering the Category Name below Block 1 and clicking ADD. nd st 3. Add 2 Level Categories by highlighting the applicable 1 Level Category, and entering the Sub-Category Name below Block 2 and clicking ADD. rd nd 4. Add 3 Level Categories by highlighting the applicable 2 Level Category, and entering the Sub-Category Name below Block 3 and clicking ADD. 5. Continue adding all your Categories and Sub-Categories in the same way until your Product Hierarchy is complete. You can have a Product Hierarchy which is 6 levels deep.

17

Notes: •

• •

st

You cannot create two categories with exactly the same category name in the 1 Level, or in the same Parent Category. Example: You can’t have 2 categories called Pentel under Pencils > Mechanical Pencils. You can however create a Pentel subcategory under Pencils > Mechanical Pencils and another one under Pens > Ballpoint Pens. You can edit a category name by highlighting it, entering the new name below and clicking EDIT When you chose to delete a category you first need to delete all of its sub-categories.

Important: Creating, Editing and Deleting Categories needs to be carefully considered at all times. Because your Items are linked to a Category, deleting or editing a Category means that those items will be linked to the new category name (when editing) or will no longer be linked to a category (when deleting). When you start creating your Category Hierarchy, always remember to make provision for potential future product lines and st categories. Example: If you currently only sell Pencils, but could potentially sell also Pens in the future, ensure that your 1 Level Category is Pencils and not the types of Pencils (see example above), so that when you do start selling Pens, it is easy to st add Pens as a 1 Level Category. If you alter your Category Hierarchy dramatically at a later stage, each product will need to be edited to be linked to your new product hierarchy, so it is best to ensure that your starting hierarchy is correct and can adapt to your foreseen growth.

If you own a Plusto website and have elected to set up your own Category Hierarchy, then you will select your Website Category during Step 1 of the Selling Process when listing your products or services. For more information see our User Guide for Sellers – Page 11. Creating your Category Hierarchy will make it easy for your users to navigate your website and find the products and services st that they are looking for. When users are viewing your Product Catalogue, they will be able to click on the 1 Level categories, which will then display all the Sub-Categories that fall underneath it.

18

CHAPTER 9: CHANGING YOUR WEBSITE PREFERENCES You are able to set up your website preferences by clicking Web Preferences in the My Website section of My Plusto.

Changing your website preferences determines which features and add-ons will be available on your website, as well as the settings for each feature or add-on. The following section explains each feature in more detail. To edit your preferences select Yes or No for the features that you wish to include or exclude, and provide the information required to change the settings.

19

PREFERENCES AVAILABLE Product Preferences Product Search – Enable or disable a Product Search Box that will search your product and service database and generate a set of results by searching the Title and Description of your listings. Enquiry Basket – An enquiry basket allows your users to select multiple items in your catalogue, and send you an enquiry regarding all of them instead of enquiring one by one. It also allows them to quickly access the listings that they are interested in by finding them in the enquiry basket rather than browsing through categories or searching. Product Page These features are listed during the selling process or are set up as your preferences in My Plusto. You can decide on what features you wish to display on your website.
