EDITOR’S LETTER
I believe in fighting for love. Not the fly by night, chance encounter kind of love, but the authentic, unequivocal, romantic love, that defines us as human beings, and drives our every action in this world. I believe in purpose and the power of the mind - that your thoughts have power, and can change the course of not only your life, but also the lives of those around you. I cherish building relationships, and I know that growth only happens when YOU decide. My belief is that a wedding is truly just the beginning of something great, and that every day thereafter is a precious memory that deserves to be etched. I know that there is no greater power than love, and that it can change the world. But out of it all, I believe that you and I are most definitely a part of something amazing and that we are called to live a meaningful life.

I started Adriana Weddings simply because of my love for love. Though I had envisioned a very different life prior to meeting my amazing husband, God had a different plan for me, and for that I am eternally thankful. I wake up each day with a grateful heart, knowing that I get to spread love through every article that I share on our Destination wedding space. What I have come to realize over the past few years, is that no relationship is perfect, and that it takes time and effort to make it great. No marriage is ideal, and it takes patience and love to get through the challenging times. But the answer to it all is to have faith, and be relentless in your desire to keep love alive. Creating this publication has truly been a “labour of love” as they say. My team and I knew that we would have enjoyed the process, but never expected to fall in love with it. For the past year, we have cried over your adorable love stories, laughed with you over your fun proposals, and have been blessed to be able to share in your happiness and joy. We now invite you to join us as we officially welcome you to our first Issue - ADRIANA, where we showcase the real love stories of couples, wedded advice to continue to inspire you along your planning journey, and showcase some of the very best that the beautiful Caribbean & Mexico have to offer. All my love,
Elisa

To be able to bring tears to one’s eyes as they look at their memories in a collection was something I pondered about constantly. What’s your favourite spot to shoot and why? My favourite spot to shoot is at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas. The island of New Providence is small, so locations are limited, but Atlantis provides modern architecture throughout their various towers, offering different scenes: garden areas, beach scenes, hallways,
paintings, bridges, iconic lighting and more, adding to the stimulation of creativity. What’s the best part about your job?

I always say that a photographer’s work is never done. So, I constantly find myself editing other weddings and shoots taken earlier. I watch Netflix, enjoy playing flight simulation, and engaging in sporting activities like basketball occasionally.

What sparked your interest in fashion? Neha Karina was always something that I loved since childhood, being an Indian classical Katha dancer by nature, and having diplomatic ties with India. I have always been interested in fashion. My cousin works with a designer in Mumbai and as such, I was exposed to the industry through that. From there, I pursued my Marketing Degree and then finally my BFA in Fashion and Design at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). I have also done many short courses In India and Dubai on Fashion theory and color development, construction, embroidery and jewelry making to be exact.

How have your designs evolved since you launched your first Collection? My designs have evolved tremendously since the launch of my first collection, as we cannot stick with one trend and pattern. We at Neha Karina always look for the next trend(s) to hit our market to satisfy the taste of our customers, as well as keep true to our classy and regal style.
a bride is an art. It is all about what suits the bride. Here in our small country of Trinidad & Tobago, men and women are limited to selection of Indian Bridal and ninety percent of the time someone else would have the same Indian bridal wear as another unfortunately. I saw it as an opportunity and more so, as a unique market to assist and showcase my expertise in Bridal clothing.

Wedding Date: April 20, 2018 in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Proposal: Jason proposed to Laura under this beautiful tree covered in fair lights, on a bench right along the edge of the water and the restaurant in Grand Cayman. As Laura says, “Of course, I immediately burst into tears. I wanted to marry him the day I met him!” The Wedding Planning Process: “It’s been a little bit stressful as I live in Canada. The first four months I was essentially trying to be a travel agent and figure out the details for our guests, but now I’m actually getting to shift my focus on planning the wedding. I’m really lucky to have my mother in law involved as she is an interior designer and has a good eye for design, knows trends, and has good taste and opinions.” Wedding location: “At the restaurant where Jason proposed. The ceremony will actually happen right under the tree where he proposed. We chose Cayman as we’ve been going there for over ten years (vacationing and visiting his parents). We love the island, and we wanted an intimate wedding to begin with. The restaurant and exactly where he proposed was just the perfect setting for the wedding.” Wedding Photographer: “Chad Munro from Picture This Studios in Cayman Islands. I had actually seen his photography on Instagram before I even knew him. He had photographed some weddings in Toronto that I had loved. What I love about Chad’s photography is that it seems effortless, timeless, and raw. It is a true capture of emotion and beauty. His photos really are breathtaking.” Wedding Dress Details: “Well I bought my dress the week after he proposed! Since I don’t live in the same city as my mom, I wanted to try on dresses with her, even though I wasn’t planning on buying that far in advance. The first dress I tried on I absolutely loved, and it wasn’t expensive. My mom and sister in law encouraged me to at least try on a few more just so I could compare. Good thing they did, because I fell in love with another one - which I ended up buying that day. To be honest, I’m not that big into following designers, I just knew what kind of style I was looking for. As for my fiancés suit, he didn’t go traditional tux or color and chose a suit that went with our theme and décor.” Advice for other brides to be: “Be open to other people’s opinions and suggestions, but also listen to your heart and gut feeling. Remember that nothing will be ‘perfect’ and to just go with the flow as the most important part of our day is the actual event of getting married. Everything else will all fall into place and work out on its own.”

Wedding Date: October 20th, 2017 in Barbados. How did you meet?: “On the 17th November 2013 my girls convinced me to go out clubbing in a City appx. 70km away from my hometown. We all had some nice cocktails at the bar. Suddenly I saw him dancing next to me. We held eye contact for a while until he finally started dancing with me. We danced without touching. After som nice R&B vibes he asked me for my Facebook name, which I wouldn’t give to him. So, he asked me for my phone number and I told him to put his number in my phone so I could decide if or if not to contact him one day. As smart as he is: he directly called his number with my phone - that’s how he got my number. After that, we didn’t stop calling and writing each other until we arranged our first date.” The Proposal: “It was our third anniversary. We were having dinner at a new restaurant in our hometown in Germany. He took me out on the balcony after our meal, and we enjoyed the view over the city talking about the time we already spent together. That’s when he knelt down on one knee to ask me the question!” Number of Guests: “We had thirty guests for the ceremony. It was important to us to only be with our loved ones for our special day. We only wanted our closest friends and family to witness our wedding. Also with fewer guests we were able to spend enough time with each individual, so it gave the whole day a nice and personal touch.” Wedding Venue: “We fell in love with Foul Bay Beach in 2014. That was the first time we went there and I directly felt it - that we had to marry there one day. Rough sea, plenty of shade, beautiful environment with stones, palms and white sand.” Wedding Photography: “Our photographer was Ricky Chase from Ricky Chase Photography & Video. I choose him for the wonderful pictures on his website. I liked the uncomplicated and friendly communication with him, which proved to be a very good decision.” Honeymoon: “We went to the Almond Beach Resort as a gift from my in-laws. It was a really nice location, with a wonderful sea view and great activities. We found out that playing tennis is a nice hobby for both of us, and that we will try it out more often back in Germany. The food was fantastic too!” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “Just do what you really like to do. Don’t be influenced by others and just enjoy the wedding. It is not supposed to be a show to entertain other people and even if not everything goes as planned, just enjoy the day to the fullest. We had a few situations in which we had to improvise because they were not going as planned, but those moments made the day even more memorable.”

THE ANCHOR AGE | TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
Wedding Date: 30th July 2017. How did you two meet?: “We met in school. Was it love at first sight? Hardly. For the first year of us being assigned to the same training group, we didn’t even take notice of each other, but as time went by we got to know each other slowly. I first noticed that he was very opinionated about everything I did and he always hung around. He says I was always around him wearing cute dresses and fancy shoes with perfectly done toes to attract his attention. Most of our time was spent studying together as were going through the same demands of medical school and we knew there could be no distraction. Love certainly was no expectation, it just happened and we began to grow very dependent on each other for support in every aspect of our lives and our relationship bloomed during those long hours of training.” Decor: “After going to Estado Nuevo with my uncle while visiting from Canada in April 2017, we immediately decided that that was the venue for our wedding. That was the catalyst for planning a July wedding. Filled with lush greenery and poui trees on a wide expanse of untouched land , a casita on the hilltop covered by a large oak tree with a backdrop of tall pine trees and the river flowing through a natural bamboo arched riverside set the stage for the perfect rustic woodland wedding. We had visions for light floral accents with lush greenery to

add to the aesthetics and flowing water features to keep the area serene and cool and scents of freshly cut wooden logs and bamboo everywhere with romantic candle light and hints of lace for a touch of elegance and long family style table layout to add to the intimacy of the occasion. After securing Tricia as our wedding planner and recognising we had only 10 weeks we knew the only person to make this vision a reality was none other than Brian from Abfab Events Ltd. Thankfully, he was equally excited to create this unique setting. We had set out three separate spaces. Ceremony riverside under a natural bamboo arch, cocktail hour under the poui trees and reception on the hilltop. But Mother Nature crushed those plans sending impromptu bad weather patterns that totally shattered this vision and the reality of a muddy, waterlogged wedding set in. Hence the venue was changed one week before the wedding. Brian was able to repurpose the same materials and recreate a perfect rustic woodland as envisioned at The Anchorage who accommodated us on such short notice.” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “Be realistic in your expectations and choose your vendors based on importance of the detail. For us, food and bar were very important so we spared no expense in getting exactly what we wanted. Expect the unexpected but don’t let it ruin your day. Invest in an exceptional wedding planner. “I bought my dress in 2015 not knowing a date or any specifics about the wedding. However it matched the theme and location perfectly. It was champagne, tank top design and very simple, and no one had ever tried or bought the dress in that store. it was definitely not what I envisioned. As soon as I exited the dressing room all other bridal parties stopped to look at me and one group started exclaiming in Spanish “La Reina”.”

“The wedding cake design was chosen to complement my bouquet with superb sugar artistry work to emulate every type of flower and succulent used. To add to the unique nature of the cake, we chose a pale blue colour and the cakes were layered in an offset pattern to form a spiral. Rope details, antique monogram and succulents just fit right in with the theme. And of course the wooden log table and detail with soft candlelight all around just added to its grandeur.

Our motto for the trip was ‘where dream fulfill each person’s wish during the trip. One of my fondest memories as a child was being awoken by my dad at 6am this wish to be fulfilled and began to get frustrated when the trip was ending and I did not go on the hot air ball going, until I reached and saw the balloons. After signing our waiver/ accidental death forms I was in the air reluc Our captain began re-enacting his marriage showing us where they got married and where their first house was an loved each other. We were at 1500 feet in the air when the captain reported he lost control of the balloon and rad before my eyes preparing for my death, it was very scary and then suddenly amongst a line of pine trees his wife was s was on one knee on the balloon basket seat saying “he that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing” and that he was ch It was all planned by Adrian and the captain. Every family member identified one activity that they could only dream of doing and Adrian tried to every morning in Orlando to see the sky full of colourful hot air balloons at sunrise. I waited in anticipation for loon ride. On the second to last day there he woke me up at 5am and told me get ready. No clue as to where we were ctant to go, and nervous about landing in marsh lands. However it was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. nd his wife was listening via radio on the ground. They began reminiscing and telling each other how much they dio signal. The balloon began a steep descent, plummeting downward into the marshland below. My life flashed standing with a sign now in clear view as were closer to the ground saying ‘Will you Marry me Stacey’ and Adrian hoosing me to be his and placed this glistening diamond on my finger blinding me in the morning sun. I was elated. ns in the sky began sending radio messages of congratulations and well wishes. It was simply magical. As we landed, to a hot air balloon, which I still treasure. SE VEN MILE beach | CAYM AN ISL ANDS
Wedding Date: 4th September, 2017 Proposal: “Matt proposed during their first trip to Grand Cayman, which was at the top of both of their lists of places to visit and a place neither of them had been before. Matt arranged the trip over Memorial Day weekend, and kept me from expecting a proposal by making it seem like he still didn’t have a ring. Their first full day on the island was amazing, with Matt joining me in my oceanfront view room for a cozy breakfast on the balcony with the most beautiful ocean view we had ever seen and the peaceful sound of the waves rolling in. We had a great day, having lovely conversations while relaxing at the resort, cooling off in the ocean, and taking long walks up and down the most amazing beach. Then we traveled to a part of the island called lighthouse point for an amazing vegan dinner and even more great conversation. Following dinner, Matt convinced me to take a night walk on the beach to burn off all the delicious food and when he came to pick me up at my room, he had on a pretty stuffed backpack. I asked why he was bringing a backpack and he said he had thrown a few towels in there in case they found a good place to sit on the beach and relax during the walk. They headed out and didn’t get far from the resort when Matt suggested that they had found a perfect spot to sit down for a while. I was thinking that we had barely even walked far, and still needed to walk for a bit more to burn off that dinner, but I agreed to take a break anyway! Matt laid out the towels for us to sit on and while I was sitting down, he quickly pulled out some battery-powered candles that he had brought with him from Dallas and surrounded the towels with them. They were remote controlled so he sat down and was able to light them all up at once! We sat for a bit and Matt told me he
had gotten a gift for me. He pulled out a puzzle and I started to put it together as Matt helped and held the flashlight. I quickly realized that it was a heart-shaped puzzle made from one of our favorite pictures together with the words Matt & Meera printed on it. Matt had removed the final piece to make sure to save it for the end and when he gave it to me, I could see that it said ‘You are the missing piece to my puzzle’. Then Matt asked me if I would like to dance and I agreed, but first he had to put on our wristbands, just like the night we first really connected at the dancehall. Matt had saved the puzzle piece wristbands from that night and reattached them on our wrists. We danced briefly on the beach and then Matt sat us back down and shared a page that he had written in his journal from early in their relationship when he first wrote down how excited he was to have met me and how amazed he was by all the wonderful things about me. He let me know that since that point, things had only gotten better and his love for me had only grown deeper. At that point, Matt got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked me if I would be his wife! I was surprised and extremely happy, and said yes! Matt basically tackled me, as he was overwhelmed with joy! If you’re wondering how I could even see the ring at night, Matt had put the ring in a special box that included a light! The proposal happened a little after 11pm on Saturday, so their life as an engaged couple started first thing on Sunday, May 28. Matt let me know that since my life started on 4/14 and his life started on 1/14, it was perfect for our new life together to start on the sum of the two, 5/28!”

HILTON HOTEL | TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
Wedding Date: August 26th, 2017. How did you meet?: “A mutual friend of ours had actually been trying to set us up for months, but neither of us was interested. It just so happened that one day we coincidentally both parked at her house at the same time to meet our friend at a football match at the Stadium. Parking there meant us walking to the stadium together and this was how we actually met and spoke for the first time.” The Proposal: “It was honestly so romantic, magical even…straight out of Instagram or Pinterest, none of which he had or knew how to use at the time so I was shocked and impressed. He created an occasion and actually obliged one of the many times I’d asked to go out for dinner. He got together a violinist friend of mine, a photographer to capture it all and covered his living room floor with rose petals and 300 tea light candles spelling “Marry me fuf?” (Our nickname for each other). He stalled me several times on the way to “dinner” with the final stall tricking me into following him upstairs to his apartment. After all the tears, the “yes”, the photos and the family getting there, dinner was KFC delivery and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!” Number of Guests: “We had two hundred and fifty guests. We knew we couldn’t get away with a small wedding by virtue of the size of our families, but didn’t want too big a wedding either so two hundred and fifty was a manageable number we came up with.” Wedding Venue: “I think since I started thinking about wedding venues, Hilton was always my first choice. I knew I definitely wanted an indoor wedding because as beautiful as outdoor weddings are, I just didn’t have the personality for it I think. I would have panicked about way too many things so taking all the weather elements out of the way made it easier to narrow down the search and though we considered several places, we ended up exactly where I’d initially wanted so I am really grateful for that.” Wedding Photography: “Jane Decle was my photographer and Russel Dos Ramos was her second shooter. Again, I found her from random wedding stalking long before I was engaged and loved how she always captured real moments and made them look magical. I am so happy that I went with her! Not to mention, she’s such a great person. I think she became and instant best friend during the lead up and especially on the day of the wedding!” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “Everyone told me to enjoy the engagement process, which seemed so impossible sometimes because there was just so much to do all the time. But at the end of the day it’s true, enjoy it! You will look back on those days and love them so much and actually miss the chaos of planning your wedding! I say do fun wedding things as often as you can. Every opportunity you can wear white or have a bride cup in your hand, go for it! On a serious note, prioritize what’s really important to you. Some things you will inevitably have to compromise on, so make sure you decide what you’re willing to or not and you have those important things straight.”

Wedding Date: July 22nd, 2017. How did you meet?: “We have known each other our entire lives. We attended the same church and went to the same school for a portion of our lives! Our families have always been friends.” The Proposal: “I was working in Marbella, Spain at the time on an internship, and Nathan came to visit me. Nathan and I went out to spend the day sightseeing and to explore the city. That morning, we went on a horse and carriage ride around the city and then he treated me to lunch. As the day got later we walked down the beach to watch the sunset with our ice cream and when we headed back to the hotel to watch a movie he got down on one knee behind me and proposed!” Number of Guests: “We had one hundred and fifty guests at our wedding. We wanted a number big enough so that our families and friends could come, but not so big that we didn’t know all of the people that would be attending. We wanted a personal and intimate affair.” Wedding Venue: “We were actually looking all over the island for great spots and then stumbled across Balmoral Club. When we went to the site visit, we were blown away with the scenery and aesthetics of the venue.” Wedding Photography: “Our photographer was Braxton Gardiner! We actually choose him from a recommendation from a friend. We told them that we were looking for a photographer, and they suggested Braxton to us, and we must admit that after looking at his work and meeting with him we were blown away.” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “Your wedding day is about you and your husband, so find out what suits you best. Have a wedding not for other people like your parents or friends or other family members, but exactly what you both want on that day. Finally, the week before your wedding, do absolutely nothing. Go to the spa and hang out with friends and just relax.”

Wedding Date: Mar 18, 2017. How did you two meet? “We met in a limo outside of a NYC nightclub four and a half years ago. It took several times of us meeting (after 4am) through friends before we really connected. We became friends for about six weeks before we started dating. Our story proves that good things do happen after midnight! I think the most difficult phase in our relationship was our transition to San Francisco. We had moved across the country to a new city where we knew very few people. We left behind our jobs and the most amazing friends in NYC. It was stressful and it tested our bond. In the end, we were stronger for overcoming those challenges together - hand in hand. What are your goals or future plans as a married couple? We want to continue life as an adventure and never stop having fun together! “Breathe. On my day, everything that could go wrong, did, but in the end, it was still the most perfect day. And all the near disaster moments only made it better!! Just be in the moment, because it truly is so fleeting.” AMBER, THE UNITED STATES PAIGE NELSON PHOTOGRAPHY
Don’t get so caught up in the details of the wedding that you forget to enjoy your engagement. It’s such a wonderful time and it flies by, so savour every moment. Also, accept help! Friends and family will want to be part of the process, and you will need lots of hands to help you through the planning process!”
LYNDAH WELLS PHOTOGRAPHY
“Wedding planning is fun and exciting, but at times can be stressful. I would advise newly engaged couples to enjoy this tra nsitional period. Go on dates and enjoy each other, not every conversation has to be about your upcoming nuptials. Remember to enjoy your day, It goes by quickly! Hire a good photographer(s) and videographer(s), as it is truly the best present to receive post wedding.” VIJAYA, T&T
MICHAELA, CANADA
“Our advice would be to make your wedding for you! Don’t worry about what people will think or say because at the end of the day it is about YOU! Once you find something you LOVE, stop looking for that thing and move onto something else. Have patience because it goes by in the blink of an eye. Enjoy the planning, be kind, and always remember the best gift at the end is the life you have with the person you walk back down that aisle with.” - LAUREN, THE UNITED STATES CRESTED LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

“Definitely get a coordinator for the day so you have a stress free wedding day. Someone to handle any problems that may come up in the background. Enjoy the planning process and the engagement period. Remember to have fun with your fiancé planning, and don’t forget that it’s your special day so make sure the elements that are on your must have list are present.” MARIA, T&T

The Caribbean has always been known for it’s beautiful islands, with lush greenery, gorgeous beaches and sunshine. Sadly this also means that on occasion the region is subjected to the strong winds and unrelenting rainfall of hurricanes. This is not a recent development for the islands and their inhabitants by any measure but being prepared for natural disasters is certainly not an exact science. the choice for destination weddings and honeymoons is without bounds, the Caribbean still offers a unique sense of love and purity unlike any other region, and we are so honoured to be a part of that. “ Just like the moons and the suns, With the certainty of the tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I rise. Maya Angelou
