EDITOR’S NOTE
Hello Loves! I’m convinced that I am undeniably stubborn when it comes to love. I’m convinced that a life without love is no life at all. I’m convinced that my life has been impacted and has impacted others in the most positive way, because of my love for love. In a social media driven world filled with fake profiles, shallow relationships and hurtful comments, I choose to focus all of my attention on the power of love. I choose to share the passionate stories of couples, the triumphs and successes of wedding professionals from all around the world, and the inspiration that drives us every single day to create magic. It’s no easy task. The mission is not one that I take lightly, but with gumption and strength, because that is what is necessary in these times. That is what is essential to make a difference. Over the last couple of years, we produced online publications that showcased the beauty of relationships. We went across the Caribbean and Mexico, and met incredible people who had the most amazing stories, and wow did I learn. I learnt that though small…I am an essential part of this destination wedding space…I learnt that my mission is even more valuable now, especially as the Caribbean continues to blossom…I learnt that weddings though beautiful, are not the focus, but the beginning of the lifelong journey toward self-actualization, patience, understanding and true unconditional love with your partner. Marriage is the key, and God is the answer. So, I hope that as you flip through the pages of this Issue, that you feel the love in every page, that you understand how precious each moment is with the love of your life, and just how meaningful life is when you have both love and God in it. Thank you so much for joining us along this sweet journey, and enjoy ADRIANA (Issue III)!

custom gown is an acquired taste, and one that we would highly recommend for brides, especially if you’re looking for a wedding dress that is 100% you. Over the years, we have received countless emails and messages from brides struggling to find the “perfect one” for their special day, and we completely understand. The process is certainly not simple, and should be done with patience, love and possibly an awesome bridal stylist. So ofcourse, we decided to get in touch with a beautiful past bride who chose to go “custom”, to find out all about her experience, and what recommendations she would give to others who may be interested in this option instead of an off the rack experience. The custom process will be a little longer, is a bit repetitive, and truly requires vision in order for your bridal designer to create your desired gown. So choose a bridal designer whose aesthetic closely matches your own, and who could become your very own “fairy God mother”. Trust that you won’t regret it! Here are a few tips for you brides-to-be when deciding to go custom-made or off the rack:

Tell us a little about your special day. How was it? It was emotionalll!! When I woke up the morning of the wedding, I was super calm. However, as the time drew nearer, I got super anxious! I was shaking when I walked up the church stairs to the door. I had to take a couple deep breaths to steady myself before meeting my dad to walk in. How did you decide on your wedding dress? Where did the inspiration come from? I am an avid lover of Pinterest, so I started looking there from the time I got engaged. I always wanted to have the “Princess/ Queen” look for my wedding day since I was a child, so it was a dream come true actually wearing my dream dress on my wedding day. When looking for the dress, did you initially think about doing a “custom” design? I did not actually. I knew the look I was going for, but did not knowwhat it would’ve taken to get it. I looked within a few bridal stores but was never really happy with what I saw. Nothing appealed to me. It was either too traditional or too sparkly. How did you find out about Darcel and VdV? Adriana Weddings of course! Elisa is my long-time friend from UWI so when I felt stumped about literally everything about the wedding, I called her up! She was so excited, and when I showed her a photo of the idea for my wedding dress and vented about
the woes of looking, she was like “Van der Vlugt! Check out her Instagram page. Darcel is a darling! You’ll get what you want. Don’t worry about a thing! I’ll send you her contact info.” And the rest is history! Please walk us through the process from the first moment of contact with Darcel to the day you saw the full dress complete! Wow… I honestly can’t remember exactly the first moment of contact. I believe I either called her or sent her a WhatsApp message first introducing myself and of course that she came highly recommended by Elisa. We then emailed to set up a consultation. Meeting her in person was so calming (I was not anxious at all) and I was so happy! I met her with my two best friends – one of which was my Maid of Honour. I showed her 3 different photos of ideas for my wedding dress and she was so understanding and excited to make the dress. Her exact words were “OMG I haven’t made a ball gown in for-ev-errrr! Yes!” She was even more excited when I told her I didn’t want to have a veil, but instead wanted a cape. We went through all the details including measurements, budget and time-frame in which to complete the dress and we even started looking at samples of lace to give both her and me a better idea of what I wanted. We communicated via WhatsApp and email to actually choose the lace for my dress and set up fittings. The first fitting (which she warned me about) was the most unflattering fitting. It consisted of a mock bodice made in cotton cloth (not sure of the exact name of the cloth). At the second fitting, I almost cried (tears of joy of course) because I got to actually see the dress
coming along. It was basically cloth but I was so happy. By the third fitting, I didn’t want to take off my dress! The only thing missing was the lace. It was my dress with all the tulle – I could not stop smiling and twirling! I was ready to walk down the aisle in it and it wasn’t even complete! I saw my full dress complete with cape and everything the night before the wedding. Darcel met my wedding party and I at our hotel room and set up a mannequin and the dress with cape. I was speechless and so ecstatic. I could not stop looking at my dress! It was perfectttt! I fell asleep that night looking at my dress like “Wowwww!” Darcel is truly amazing at what she does and I would recommend her any day for brides-to-be looking for their perfect dress. “Too many chefs in the kitchen spoils the pot”, so I suggest that you bring two of your most trusted confidants to have as your sounding board and be there for you as you say, “YES TO THE DRESS! Would you recommend brides consider going “custom made” instead of “off the rack” for their wedding dress? Most definitely!! You get exactly what you want that way. When I looked around at dresses, I found that I was settling a lot. I didn’t like a dress but if anything they can adjust this, plus it’s the closest thing to what I want so… NO! Don’t settle! After all, it’s your wedding day! I also recommend that if a bride-to-be is considering going custom made, they should find someone trustworthy. Always trust your gut. If something feels wrong, it most likely is. I found Darcel and our energies connected instantly. Elisa was a big help too because I hold her opinion highly.
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM

What were your favourite details of the dress? Favourite? My entire dress was perfect! I honestly have no favourite details. I loved the lace, it was delicate but also had a little edge to it. The corset gave me boobs!!! I have little to no boobs so Darcel had little pads to give me the cleavage I wanted. The size of the skirt was perfect - I loved twirling in it, it made me feel like a Princess. The cape was exactly how I envisioned it with the lace. My dress was everything I wanted it to be and more! Some people consider bridal designers AS fairy God mothers when planning their wedding, would you consider Darcel to be exactly that? Yes! Most definitely! Darcel is THE Fairy Godmother! There was a point in time when I got a little anxious because I felt like I wasn’t hearing from Darcel and the lace was taking too long to get here so I called and messaged Darcel a lot… well not a lot but I felt like I was harassing her. No matter how many times I contacted her, she was very cool and assured me that it was on its way and that I shouldn’t worry but instead focus on mentally preparing myself for my big day. She doesn’t know it but talking to her helped keep me calm sometimes. Also, after the wedding Darcel offered to organize the dress to get it dry cleaned for me in order to prepare it for storage. That was one thing I was worried about because my dress is HUGE so can you imagine walking into a dry-cleaners with that… and then imagine the cost when they see the size of the dress… She has saved me a lot!

“I look at this image and sometimes I can’t believe it’s me. I’ve been dreaming of marrying Leroy for so long and then actually wearing my dream dress and cape – achieving my vision for our wedding altogether... It’s breath-taking.”
“Go with your gut ladies! Trust me! It’ll never lead you astray. The right dress will always give you that “this is it” feeling. Don’t rush anything. If it doesn’t give you that feeling, then it isn’t the one. Period.”

Give us a little insight into the fierce woman and artist behind Ceci New York. I started Ceci New York nearly 16 years ago. Our goal is to beautify your world in many different ways, whether it’s for your wedding or special event. We also have lifestyle products like our notebooks, personal stationery and now translating into the fine linen collection with Nuage Designs. We really love the idea of being able to carry our artwork and beautify your world. The brand is about design and style, and creating something special and one of a kind for you and your clients. We really try to make things that stand out in a different and lovely way. We create pieces that are designed for people who appreciate luxury, quality, distinction and who truly put their best foot forward. It’s for people who love to be unique, and who desire that. It’s very creative, innovative, fashion forward and artistic. Everything that we create is hand painted or hand drawn.
34
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
It’s all from our imagination, so you won’t find it anywhere else, and because of that, it becomes very exclusive. We are telling our clients story through art, and are creating special products, keepsakes and invitations, that go beyond just a card. It’s really a personal brand, a statement that is memorable and creates that wow factor that lasts a lifetime.
Why did you decide to do this collaboration with Nuage Designs, and why at this particular point in time?
PHOTOGRAPHY: ERIKA DELGADO
PHOTOGRAPHY: ERIKA DELGADO
I have always been a fan of Pablo and his team at Nuage Designs. I love that he respects the linens as something more than just fabric over a table. It’s about telling a story, and elevating an event. It could be putting a beautiful fine linen on a table or accenting with a dramatic graphic napkin, charger or the pillow in your lounge area…it truly makes such a difference. So, when we started talking about the whole thing, it just made sense and we really connected. We are both two like-minded entrepreneurs, that really love the events world, and love to beautify people’s worlds. I think we share that common mindset. The fact that I could turn my art and paintings into fabrics, and play with different mediums to elevate events around the world was really exciting for me. I am so happy to be partnering with Nuage Designs.

So how did you decide on the theme for the collection with Nuage Designs? I think one of my signature looks is florals. I love flowers in so many ways, and for events, flowers have always been a huge element of my work. I think flowers in general are just beautiful and romantic, so I think it just made sense to translate our signature looks into linens. We wanted it to be about botanicals, from romantic soft pastel florals to the more dramatic, moody sexy flowers that would be a little more edgy and have that extra pop of colour, and then to the tropics. For Ceci New York, we have clients from around the world that are celebrating. We have such an international clientele, and we ship our items all around the world, so we wanted the collection to be very easy for people to transform a room into a tropical oasis even if they were in New York City. For us, it was focused on how do we take the signature Ceci look and my watercolors, and transform that into a
36
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
collection that resonates and is very versatile. I think it allows people to get creative, use their imagination and have fun! We wanted to have a wide range of fabrics – from that moody, dramatic look for someone who wants it to be sexy for an evening function, to someone who wants it more tropical, bright and fun for a luncheon or brunch the next day. It can go in so many ways, and I think we are just so thrilled to see what all of the event designers are going to start doing with it, and how it starts to tell different stories. We really looked and studied who we work with and what was in demand, and so many of our clients desired this type of collection, so we just knew we had to focus on how to bring this whole thing to life in a new way. Did you always know that you wanted to include the accessories in the Collection, or did this thought come during the linen creation? The Ceci brand is all about entertaining beautifully, and because it’s so graphic and the
PHOTOGRAPHY: ERIKA DELGADO
prints are so bold, I wanted to make sure that it was very flexible. So, if a client thought that the linen was a bit too bold for them, they could add a very cool impact through maybe just using the charger plate or maybe the napkins, and with just that little addition, it would be so powerful. That little accessory would easily give you that amazing, creative pop that you would love. So, I love the idea that it is very versatile, and it caters to all personalities and endless creative possibilities, which for me, is what it’s all about. How was your experience working with Nuage Designs throughout this process? It was just a dream come true. I respect Pablo so much. He is such a smart business man, and a kind-hearted individual. We are both distinctly different in personalities, and we complement each other and we make such a great team. I love that he appreciates my art, and the creativity behind it, and we both collectively want this collection to just be the best it can be. We both poured our whole
hearts and souls into making it really special, so it was truly wonderful. Everything was just amazing, and I hope that everyone feels that when they see all the work that we have done together. How was the feedback from the collection been? OMG, so so incredible! I cannot even find the words to describe how good thus far. We have received nothing but positive reviews, and so many have told us that they have been craving something like this. They love it and cannot wait to get their hands on it to start creating! So many of our clients think it is so fresh and timeless, and truly fills a need that has been missing for so long. We are so grateful. What can we look forward to next from Ceci New York? So many exciting things are in store, but ofcourse I cannot talk about it all just yet! But I can assure you it’s all going to be really really good. ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM

favourite moments for wedding photographers WRITER | HADASSAH NOEL | PHOTOGRAPHY | CHEERS VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS
For the hopeless romantic...the prince and the princess...the kiss and the dress...the castle and its grandeur are the ingredients for the happily ever after that we have all come to expect at a wedding. But after a slow curtain and the end, the decor comes down and the fine cuisine is consumed, the priceless memories are the ones that resonate with the heart. Behind my lens, I am often scanning for those moments, or an expression that captures the joy and the heart of the occasion. Time will fail to tell of my favorite wedding moments but these stand out and remain.
38
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
The Fairest of Them All When a bride has just put on the finishing touches… the expression in the room is usually “wow”. The look that everyone in the room gives the lady in white, the “you look beautiful” comments, are sort of the precursor to what follows for the day. The expressions are real and smiles can fill the entire room. And when the bride sees herself in the mirror for the first time all dressed up… it’s a moment for clicking. The Carriage/ Car I love to get a shot of the bride in the car heading toward the ceremony. It’s so symbolic of her being taken from one place to another, from single life to married life, and she is usually really happy to be leaving, even if there are tears.
The Ball /Dance From the most reserved couple to the most liberal ones, the dance floor is a time for movement and real vibes. But when the bride looks up into the eyes of her new forever with that little twinkle, he looks back as to say “I got you”, then she rests her head on his shoulder with a contented smile. At this point we all wish we were on the same planet and I love it! Spontaneity
The Grand Entrance When a bride hits the aisle and the groom is looking on with love and anticipation as she makes each stride. Those few minutes of expectation, thought, angst, and the unspoken feeling of, ‘you…me…finally’ is always a highlight. It’s high stakes, and the groom takes deep breaths. He may even tear up, and the bride keeps walking toward him like...here I come. The Kiss “You may now…kiss your bride.” At this point all the phones are out and paparazzi are ready to assume their roles. The look he gives her while taking off the veil and the smile at the end of the kiss, are the moments that take your breath away.
Tensions can run high at a wedding causing the bride and groom to be a bit more stiff than they naturally would be depending on personalities. The ah ha moments when a bride and groom breakaway and do something spontaneous, are always enjoyable as it brings a personal touch to a wedding. When he lifts her up, or carries her trail, kisses her hand or fixes her hair, sometimes we catch them stealing a moment to hug. These moments are priceless. Father Daughter moments It’s a privilege for a girl to have her father walk her up the aisle. Throughout the ceremony there are several moments where you see parents being sweet and intimate, that are a testament to the future support the newlyweds are going to have.
Come Away With Me The little pump of celebration that the bride and groom give after the words, “I present for the first time, Mr & Mrs are priceless.” We have done it, now let’s take our first walk together as man and wife. The audience is standing and greeting, snapping, sometimes blowing bubbles, as the bride and groom whisk away.
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
39
Quirky Moments That one relative or friend we seriously regret giving the microphone to in the reception, is a real jovial moment. You see the couple covering their faces from the little bit of embarrassment in some cases, or laughing their heads off while reminiscing on those fun moments, are always great captures. We also love the little ring bearer or flower girl shots, when the couple has a “cake smudging” moment while cutting the cake and so much more. These moments aren’t part of the script but they certainly make things so much more unique! The Man Of The Hour Ok, wait for it… “On behalf of my wife and I”. No matter how many weddings I capture, this statement is the most celebrated formal
40
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
moment in a wedding reception. When he speaks and the bride watches up at him, that moment is pure love. Up Up and Away It’s time to leave and the bride and groom are heading off to their honeymoon, are always great captures also. It’s like the beginning of forever, so be sure to have your flashes ready. Every single moment of every wedding that we’ve been honoured to photograph is magical, because it’s a moment in the present that invests in the future. My advice would be to do it to the fullest, and have fun!

Wedding Date: 23rd - 25th May, 2019. How did you meet: “We met while we were both in medical training at University of Chicago. Raisa was doing her Neuro Critical Care fellowship and I was in my last year of Anesthesia residency. We first met during a neurologic emergency on a patient I was taking care of in the post-anesthesia recovery area. Raisa showed up to assist with the patient’s condition and it didn’t take long for us to lock eyes. After the patient’s condition recovered and we were walking away from the patient, it was obvious to Raisa’s Attending that “that anesthesia resident would not stop looking at you.” Even after that day, we still didn’t know each other’s names, but the interest had sparked. It took several months of bashful “hello’s” while walking past each other down the hospital hallways and impromptu coffee breaks at the physician’s lounge for me to finally figure out that Raisa was not married and finally have our first date.” The Proposal: “Our engagement story is long…mostly due to my scheme of multiple “fake proposals” for months prior to the big day. On several occasions, I would romantically get down on one knee only to tie my shoes, and on separate occasions gave her small boxes with everything but an engagement ring. It was on
64
March 2nd, 2018 when I asked Raisa to go on a romantic date to “a new museum on the Chicago River walk” (this did not really exist, but Raisa believed it, because she trusts me too much). The Chicago River was our favorite place in the city and where we often walked during our dates. As we were walking down the river, I bent down on one knee and began to propose – but at this point Raisa was determined not to be gullible. Although I did give her a fake ring at first, I then took out the real little white box with the most beautiful and perfect engagement ring Raisa had ever dreamed. The rest is history.” Fondest memory: (Bride) “I have so many! But my fondest memory is during the wedding ceremony when we said our personalized vows to each other. I also think the reception gave us the best memories. We danced all night and we even forgot to eat our cake and didn’t realize they had given midnight snacks! I never took my shoes off!” (Groom) “The dance off during the beginning of our reception. This ended up cutting the dinner service short, but everyone was ready to party.”

“It was a just a feeling! I had tried dozens of dresses at different stores in Chicago and finally, after almost giving up on finding a dress, the assistant said “I have one more dress I’d like you to try on.” As soon as she walked in with the dress still on the hanger, I knew that was the dress. When I put it on, it was almost a perfect fit. When I came out of the dressing room the look on my mom and my aunt’s faces reassured me even more to say yes to dress.”

“Jose Ruiz was our photographer. As we started planning our wedding in Puerto Rico, we started our search on Instagram and fell in love with his photos and his style. The moments he captured, the details in his pictures and his ability to capture amazing pictures in various lighting were the things that drew us to him most. It’s kind of funny because we kept following him on Instagram months prior to our wedding, and when we finally met him in person we felt like we were meeting a celebrity! We were so excited!”

“Raisa always wanted her wedding to be in Puerto Rico, her home town, so that was the first step. We knew that after Hurricane Maria, certain hotels were still remodeling, thus we based our search on venues that could accommodate approximately 200 guests, which quickly narrowed down our options in San Juan.

“After trying on a few dresses, my bridal stylist felt that my style was more romantic and brought out “anouk” by monique lhuillier, a brand I was familiar with by the beautiful lace details. I’ve always loved lace as it’s so timeless and romantic. i felt like more of a bride in this dress but also comfortable as it was so light and it had a very airy feel, like I was floating.”

Olga’s darling bridal bouquet was designed by Flowers by EA in Turks & Caicos.
Wedding Date: 18th August, 2019. How did you meet: “We met at school. He was my twin
brother’s friend and did not realize that I was his sister..until he figured out we had the same last name.” The Proposal: “I had a feeling it was going to happen soon, but was totally surprised when it did. He popped the question on the beach at sunset in Florida with a drone in the air capturing the whole moment. It was amazing!” Fondest memories: (Bride) “With the beautiful ocean in front of us, looking at my husband while standing at the altar. It was truly a surreal moment.” (Groom) “The first glimpse of her walking down the aisle toward me.” The Honeymoon: “Since we had an extravagant destination wedding, we decided to wait and spend a month in the South of France & Italy during the Summer.” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “Don’t panice, don’t stress! Destination weddings can be a bit overwhelming, but it all falls into place for your special day. It feels like there is never enough time to get everything planned and done, but it eventually works out in the end. It did for me, and I am so happy that i chose a destination wedding at the lovely Triton Luxury Villa.”

“jon nickson was SO great and a pleasure to work with. i saw his work and loved his style!”
“my husband only wanted to have our wedding on the beach and only in turks & caicos. we visited the island prior and fell in love with the most spectacular beaches. we also wanted to have it at a private villa, with no guests but ours. the villa we chose was exactly what we dreamed of and more. triton luxury villa stands alone on the beautiful long bay beach of tci. it’s a brand new, extraordinary villa that looks like a resort. it has all white modern decor, with pools at the front and back, and seven bedrooms.”

I was so dumbfounded, literally, I went numb for a Wedding Date: 9th March, 2019. Proposal: “Leo proposed to me on June 17, 2018. moment. Leo had to guide me to this beautiful seat
He planned the whole thing with my friend Guido for months. However, spare of the moment, he decided to travel from Nassau that morning and met up with me at church. “Oh, boy,” was that an exceptional service! When Leo arrived, he told my Pastor that he was going to propose. What my Pastor didn’t realize is that he meant later that evening, and so he asked to have it announced. Here we are sitting in the congregation, they called Leo up, and Leo is nodding his head saying “no” to them. He finally went up, and Pastor Gilbert asked him to close us out in prayer. I’m sitting there like...what just happened! I spent the whole day asking questions about it to my friends and Leo. Of course, they managed to keep me out of the loop. Later that evening, Leo took me to dinner at The Hilton Resorts World Bimini. Before dinner, he asked to take my photo on the rooftop. It was challenging getting me up there “haha.” I finally gave in, I couldn’t resist his charm any longer. When we arrived at the rooftop, the first person I saw was my aunt. As my eyes met hers, I heard singing. As I got closer I saw a few more of my friends and family holding balloons. So then it hit me, OMG, he’s going to propose.
on the rooftop, overlooking the island. There were flowers, the weather was so beautiful, and my friend Gabrielle sang “One and Only” by Adele. Leo got down on his knees and asked me to marry him.” Decor: “Tropical Rustic DIY wedding - Rustic Mauve. We chose a rustic theme because I felt that it went well with our personality. We are not too flashy. We are laid back but elegant.” The Honeymoon: “For
our honeymoon, we went to Switzerland. We decided to do another bridal portrait photo shoot on a cay. After we finished, we got on a boat and headed to Florida to catch our plane to Switzerland.” Advice for newly-engaged couples: “My advice would be to trust yourselves
with the decision making. If you want balloons, get balloons.Make it intimate and about what you and your partner desire for that day. There is going to be a lifetime of decision making and the wedding starts the process of the marriage.”

The décor theme was a rustic, floral look. Growing up in Cayman Islands and living here pretty much all of their lives, the couple didn’t want to have a beach wedding since that’s what everyone did – we both wanted something a bit different and it turned out beautifully!

ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
Celebrations Ltd. executed the couple’s rustic decor theme with perfection, inclusive of this “welcome” sign that we LOVE! “we originally chose the botanical park for our venue, but after realizing there would be some difficulties with that spot that would make it much more expensive, we decided to check out sea orchard retreat, which was recommended to us by javier’s coworker who had recently been married there. sea orchard retreat turned out to be a hidden gem and the perfect spot for us! we were able to stay on site the whole weekend, along with our families and bridal party, and get the best of both worlds - since sea orchard is on the water and also has lush gardens, both of which made for beautiful pictures!”

Wedding Date: 21st June, 2019. How did you meet?: “Marc and I knew of each other through our social circles for a few years but didn’t become friendly until the spring of 2016. We were out for a mutual friend’s birthday and found ourselves locked in conversation the whole night. I realized his intelligence, his interests, and most importantly, his sense of humor, were things I hadn’t been able to find in others that I dated. He asked me on a date that night, and I said yes.” The Proposal: “On a completely random Wednesday morning in August 2018, my alarm went off and I rolled over into Marc’s arms like I always did. He started to kiss my head and say all sorts of sweet things. Still groggy and barely awake, I dismissively responded, “that’s nice, honey.” Marc continued his words, slowly slipped off the bed saying, “I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Next thing I knew he was on his knee at the bedside with a ring box. I bounced upright, rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, and squeaked out, “WHAT?!” He placed the ring on my finger and we fell back into the bed, drowning in kisses, smiles, laughter… and more, “WHAT?!???!!!” From there, to my TRUE surprise, Marc had an entire day planned for us. He brought in champagne as we called our families, then told me to get dressed and ready as a photographer was coming to our home. After our impromptu photo shoot, we went to New York City for a brunch with friends and to see “Hamilton” on Broadway (all an ode to our first few weeks of dating), and then returned to Philadelphia for a private dinner with close family and friends.” ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM

“it was the very first dress i tried on! i went into mari mi bridal in philadelphia and told the amazing shop owner, monet, that i wanted something sleek, form fitted, mermaid, as that was generally the style i would go for. she pointed out a few dresses, but beading from one caught my eye. i asked her about it and she said “that is the opposite of what you asked for.” haha! it was very different than the mermaid style I thought i would want, but wow, the beading was absolutely exquisite. it was sexy and classy all in one. i tried on other dresses that day and on another day of shopping, but i could never get that one, brooke by badgley mischka, out of my head. my mom, aunt, and best friend were there with me the day I said yes to the dress.”
The bride’s gorgeous shoes were designed by Badgley Mischka.

a. The lovely couple wanted to play off of the natural beauty of the Bahamas by using palm and greenery in a lot of the decor. Gianna loves white and gold and the Rosewood had a lot of that in the reception area so it was perfect for them.
Gianna’s favourite moment was walking down the aisle with her mother. How precious is this?!
“Braxton Gardiner was our wedding photographer. i loved his style of photography. he did a lot to incorporate natural light to make for really dramatic shots. he was great with candids, which is what i really wanted. i wanted my photos to tell the story of the day, and not just be a bunch of posed shots.”

The concept for the decor was simple - charming and refined. The way to accomplish this, is to not only work with an amazing decorator or decor company, but to also create a moodboard while planning. Focus on what you would love to see, and how you can create it based on the available resources. Think about the colour scheme, the theme and the unique elements that you would love to include to make it special for you and your significant other.

we absolutely love your designs, please tell us about your business, and what inspired you to begin designing gorgeous jewelry?
Josanne Mark Ltd is a Trinidad based Jewelry design house. My company has been in existence since 2005 but I’ve been creating jewelry as a hobby, for quite a few years before the business was born. Prior to starting the business, I actually thought I would have been a psychologist! I studied Psychology at The University of the West Indies, but after I graduated, I abandoned my budding career in my quest for authenticity. My inspiration to begin creating jewelry as a career, came from my love of designing and from my desire to be my most authentic self. A few years later, I graduated

did you always have an interest in bridal jewelry, or did it come while designing other pieces? Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be designing bridal jewelry! A close friend asked if I would create an engagement ring. I almost said no, but I couldn’t bring myself to disappoint my friend; a decision that I am most thankful for today.
how many gorgeous engagement rings have you created thus far? Thus far, I’ve created 5 engagement rings and 3 men’s wedding bands. My designs are strictly custom-made and one of a kind.

PACKING ADVICE FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDINg WRITER | LAUREN ANNINA-PICOZZI GRACE

Even if you’re the most travelled couple in the world, nothing prepares you for Destination Wedding packing, so make sure to bookmark these pages, screenshot and print to place in your wedding binders to check off your essentials! And since we KNOW that you are super unique and will be including some extra bits for your big day, make sure to get in touch with our expert team to find out even more information.

CLOTHING FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING When traveling to the Caribbean EVERYONE, men and women, tend to ALWAYS over pack. What are you there for? Fun in the sun? Nights out? Spa? Pack according to what your trip is. For me, packing for my wedding was a bit stressful. Looking back I packed WAY too many bathing suits. I packed one for each day. HA! I would say pack 1 bathing suit for every 2 days of your vacation. Guaranteed your first and second choice will be worn multiple times due to the simple fact that you most likely feel the most comfortable in that suit. Always pack ONE that doesn’t totally give you tan lines looking like you’ve just signed yourself up for tic tac toe! Then after the big day….let the razorbacks and funky lines shine! Sundresses pack super easy, take up very little room and can be the best investment when traveling for your destination wedding.
212
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
I say, options are a girl’s best friend. I would always pack a black sundress. When in doubt, go with a simple black dress. Dress it up with accessories since those take up little room as well. I love one solid bright colour sundress, preferably shin length. It won’t drag in the sand or get wet during those tropical rain storms and won’t get blown away if you’re right on the ocean. Be careful that they’re not too tight on the straps because let’s be honest, we’ve all been a bit naive to the Caribbean sun. Tight straps on freshly sun kissed skin, ouch! Be careful of the material you’re buying for the best comfort. Jean shorts, white shorts are the only shorts I packed when going to my destination wedding. You’re the bride, you’re going to want to feel like the bride the entire trip. I really only wore shorts to the beach. Bathing suit cover-ups...a must. Most resorts will not allow access into the restaurants, even the most casual, in just a bathing suit. But when you’re hot, sand covered
and just took a dip in the pool or the ocean, throwing on a simple bathing suit cover up is quick, easy, and doesn’t take up an entire outfit that you might have wanted to wear during your stay.
If your aisle is a hard surface, but not on the sand (I had an aisle put in the sand but still went barefeet...this is for off sand ceremonies) go for the heel or wedge. It’s your wedding after all.
Sleepwear...LIGHT, LOOSE,COMFY! Who knows if that AC will work in your room or how cold it will actually get. During my wedding it was HOT HOT HOT! If you get cold, you can always ask for an extra blanket from the hotel.
Other options for footwear while away for your destination wedding that are necessary, are a good pair of everyday around the resort flip flops. Something you don’t mind getting wet, sandy, ruined, or stolen (honestly here people, it happens) Those are your go to for just hanging at the beach and pool.
the shoes you need Let’s be real here, shoes for your destination wedding can be quite confusing. Do you want to be barefeet and have your toes in the sand or are you a bride who has to have that perfect heel? I packed wedding shoes, but in my head I KNEW I wanted to be barefeet. I wanted a wedding on the beach but with an aisle. I still chose to be barefeet. IF you’re going to be in the sand, barefoot sandals are the way to go. Think about how awkward it is to walk at the beach in normal life with shoes on. You have sand all over the place and yourself. You don’t need to worry about that when you’re trying not to cry, panic, have the perfect moment, perfect smile and all eyes on you.
Be sure to pack a great pair of nude wedges that can go with anything. That black sundress or that bright coloured mid length sundress. 2 for 1! Get some multi use out of your shoes because that bag weight limit at the airport gets you QUICK! A great pair of flats – a little dressier sandal are a must. Something that can make a casual outfit a bit dressed up. Not every night has to be fancy so its ok be comfortable with some style.
TOILETRIES & ELECTRONICS Every day essentials and more that you cannot forget!
SUNBLOCK Do not be that bride with sunburn. Just don’t. You’ll be more mad at yourself than anything in the world. My go to sunblock is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 100+. But in case you didn’t apply enough, or often my GO TO (after my sun product) is Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Lotion. Let’s just say it’s like heaven on earth when you apply it.
214
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
ESSENTIALSK Such items like makeup wipes, toe nail clippers, nail file, and tweezer... just throw all that in your makeup bag. Break a nail, fixed. Need to wipe all your makeup off your freshly tanned or burned face, done. Found a random eyebrow hair that wasn’t there yesterday, plucked! When it comes to bringing your own photography gear, I say leave it at home and to the professionals. As a destination bride I’m sure you googled and stalked the internet for photographers and their work and found exactly what you’re going for, so there’s no reason not to trust your photographer. Make a list of what exact shots you want, give that to your photographer and be sure to get those in. I know a majority of brides are into the “unplugged wedding” and “oh NO snap” ceremonies but I found as a destination bride that my photographers couldn’t be everywhere and it’s understandable but some of my guests captured the most MAGICAL pictures.
DECOR & DETAILS Depending on your vision for your wedding, you may have to bring your own items. Personally, it was important to me that every penny I spent at my venue involved me not having to lug items to another country or have them sent previously to our departure. I was able to find a venue that had all the decor included in the package. Of course if I wanted personal pictures or items at my wedding, I would have had no issue bringing those with me. We were lucky enough to find a venue that provided all frames, signage and decor. All we had to do was bring the pictures and the small personal items for our big day. If your venue does not provide items that are a must for your big day, perhaps consider bringing items that you are OK with leaving for future brides. This could be a life saver for other brides and even possibly something you would negotiate with your venue on getting a small refund on the cost of your day. ONE MAJOR item we did bring for our guests were welcome bags. We purchased beach tote bags online, in the colour of our wedding theme and provided our guests with a first aid kit with band aids, Advil, floss, breath mints, shout wipes, and ener-G packets. This was given to our guests at the time of check in. This is a MUST when your guests are traveling just for YOU. It is small, isn’t’ a budget buster but gives a huge THANK YOU from the start.
THINGS TO NOTE A travel binder, packing cubes, and wine wings. VERY important - be sure to bring enough cash so you’re not racking up foreign fees on credit or debit cards. Be sure to contact your card companies to make them aware of your travel also, so if you want to use a card they will not freeze it due to abnormal activity. If you are feeling uneasy about using cash, find a credit card that has no international fees so when you get home from the best time of your life you’re not stuck with fees that are cringe worthy.

The day has come after months of planning – it’s finally your wedding day!
you have put into this day and into yourself. It is time for your boudoir photo shoot.
Excitement fills the air, while your favourite vendors work together to create the perfect day for the two of you. Your hair, makeup and unique wedding accessories have exceeded your expectations. You have planned mentally and physically for this day and are surrounded by those who love you the most.
‘Boudoir’ is a French word meaning a lady’s private dressing room or bedroom. Boudoir photography is a style that showcases the sensuality and beauty of a woman’s body.
Then comes the moment just before you put your dress on. You quietly slip into your bedroom with your photographer to capture the essence of you. An opportunity to slow down a little and celebrate all the hard work
218
ADRIANAWEDDINGS.COM
A bridal boudoir shoot usually occurs on the wedding day just before the bride gets into her dress. However, some brides have booked these sessions before or even after the actual wedding day. The best part about these very personal sessions is that you call the shots. It’s all
about you and your comfort level. It’s your chance to feel sexy and sensual in a safe and secure environment. The photos are tasteful and do not have to be nude. Nudity tends to be implied rather than explicit. You don’t want to reveal too much as you want to create a little mystery. It’s such an empowering way to build self-confidence and to celebrate one’s own self. It is so important that you feel comfortable with the photographer you have chosen and trust that they know how to photograph your body in the most flattering way. How should you prepare? You can definitely prepare mentally and physically for the shoot. You can do research about how you want your shoot to look and feel and discuss this with your photographer. It is very important to voice any concerns with your photographer before the actual shoot so you are both on the same page. These sessions take time. Your wedding day is so packed with events it is very important to ensure that your boudoir session is taken into account when creating your day of schedule. I recommend at least 20 to 30 minutes for the shoot. If you are crunched for time then a session before or after the wedding day might suit you better. One benefit of doing the session before or after the wedding day is that you have the time to model a couple of different looks, so you will have a variety of styles to choose from. Consider the outfits you would like to wear. Some suggestions include your wedding veil, wedding shoes and any of your wedding accessories – garter and jewellery. Many brides also use lace robes or garments. Another wardrobe option is to wear the groom’s shirt, which he will absolutely love. Lingerie is definitely not a requirement and minimalism is key. The bridal bouquet can also be used as a prop and you can even ask your florist to make a smaller version of your bouquet just for the session.
what do i do with the photos? Most photographers offer handcrafted bespoke albums. Albums are a beautiful way to display these romantic, sexy images that you can gift to your groom or just to keep for yourself – and why not – you deserve it! The most important part of the entire session is to have fun and let go of all inhibitions. Embrace your body and you will feel empowered by this positive experience.

I love capturing all of the emotions that come out during these intimate events. There were plenty of tears shed during the toasts. The dancing that ensued after was so much fun! It all started with Clarianne and Brian’s first dance with their guests holding sparklers around them. I loved the moment when Clarianne wiped the tears from Brian’s face during their first dance.
