HISTORY & VENUE

Dullstroom Dullstroom is a small town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa, the town lies 35km north of Belfast and some 53 km south-west of Lydenburg. Along with Underberg, it is one of South Africa’s premier fly fishing destinations. The town features the highest railway station in South Africa at 2,077 m above sea level as well as at the foot of De Berg, the highest point in the province at 2,332 m high. Dullstroom was established in 1883 by Dutchman Wolterus Dull to settle Dutch immigrants. It was proclaimed on 9 October 1893 and named after a merchant from Amsterdam, Wolterus Dull, chairman of a committee which rendered assistance to families who had suffered losses during the First Anglo-Boer War. During the Second Boer War the town was destroyed and most of the settlers returned to the Netherlands. The element stroom, ‘stream’, refers to the Crocodile River nearby. One of the coldest towns in South Africa, Dullstroom is the only place in the country where beech and elm trees grow; they were planted by Dutch colonists. Dunkeld Country Estate Dunkeld Country Estate is your first choice leisure, conferencing and wedding destination. This family orientated resort boasts many well-stocked dams filled with Brown, Rainbow and Golden Trout, offering fly-fishermen enthusiasts the enjoyment of quality angling time in pursuit of that perfect catch. The largest fish caught to date is a rainbow trout of 3.2kg. A new addition to the Estate is the completion of three “multi-use” trails, which allows guests and day visitors the opportunity to cycle, trail run or walk a chosen route. The heritage of the estate has been preserved with the conversion of the old farmhouse into a restaurant, which was more than a hundred year old. The Estate consists of a Luxury Lodge which offers 13 spacious rooms as well as 4 private self contained family suites and 20 comfortable self-contained chalets.

A UCI Commissaire will be on site to monitor the proceedings. No support vehicle will be tolerated on the race route - if a vehicle is linked to a specific rider or team, severe penalties or disqualifications will follow. This event makes use of CSA / SA-MTB rules and is ultimately affiliated to the UCI. Upon registering with SAS each cyclist receives a permanent and unique SAS number; which also doubles as a race number and timing chip. SAS gathers race results from various race organisers and uses these to create a race index. This enables SAS to divide large numbers into smaller batches in accordance with a riders ability which effectively eliminates congestion. Riders are provided with a more enjoyable and safer riding experience.
