PwC a proud sponsor The opportunity to be involved in a niche mountain bike stage race in Big Five country is one that PwC simply couldn’t pass up. Over the past few years our strategic mountain biking focus has seen our inaugural corporate race in Gauteng being presented for the fourth time in 2015, with a successful sister event in the Western Cape. The PwC Great Zuurberg Trek is another very successful sponsorship for us, and with the PwC Bike Park full to capacity every weekend, it’s clear that there’s a growing mountain bike fraternity looking for new and exciting places to ride.

With the magnificent Legends Golf and Safari resort as a base, riders can explore the reserve’s pristine and usually inaccessible routes, literally riding amongst the Big Five. PwC is proud to be associated with the Tour of Legends for the first time this year, as we expand our investment in the sport of mountain biking. PwC remains the only one of the so-called Big Four professional services firms to sponsor mountain biking, and we’re pleased to see the support that our events receive from high-profile clients and business people.

The Tour of Legends is one such race. What better way We have no doubt that we have a winning formula, to end off a tough day’s riding than with luxurious including some of the best mountain biking terrain in relaxation? South Africa and a fantastic host venue, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Limpopo province.

Welcome

The Tour

05

The Tour of Legends takes place every year around the middle of August towards the end of the winter season in Southern Africa over a 3 day period. The tour leads aspiring amateur cyclists with a passion for mountain biking from around Southern Africa through approximately 33 000 Hectares of unspoilt nature. The Tour of Legends takes place in and around the Entabeni Private Nature reserve in the Waterberg Mountains deep in the Limpopo province. The participants take on the wild side of Africa in Big 5 territory, traversing some of the most magnificent areas only Africa can offer. The Tour of Legends is organised with the participants as the focal point of the event. The participants’ satisfaction, well-being and enjoyment of the race are the organisers’ primary goals. We aim to deliver a legendary and unforgettable mountain bike and untamed African experience. Therefore, we offer full service facilities during the race, including luxury 5 star accommodation at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort, top class breakfasts, lunches and dinners, race nutrition and a different African dining experience every evening . The route of the Tour of Legends is a secret every year! Riders can expect wide open African plains, majestic mountains, deep ravines, indigenous forests and spectacular views, not to mention a rare “Big 5” or other wildlife encounter. The route is characterized by dusty and exhilarating jeep tracks, challenging rocky outcrops, fast flowing downhill’s, meandering river crossings and stunning bush veld single tracks.

Up Yellow Wood climb to the top escarpment and then back down, also referred to as “Leopard alley. The Yellow Wood climb is a key feature of the Tour of legends and climbing up the pass is a great talking point as it is regarded as the steepest paved road in the southern hemisphere ...can U ride to the top? Day 2 will prove to be the real challenge for most riders. The route will see riders climb gaining 600 vertical meters over a mere 3.4km. Once on the upper escarpment, riders will pass through predominantly grassland terrain teeming with wildlife dominated by beautiful, rocky crags. Some surprises are in order... but you will soon be rewarded as you make the exhilarating and somewhat terrifying descent back to the lower escarpment, heading home.

A seemingly short and easy loop within the reserve, but don’t be fooled, riders will soon realize that they are in deep dark Africa, beware of the untouched “rykdom” wilderness you are trespassing on... Day 3 will offer riders a chance to regain their bearings and bid farewell to the beautiful reserve to which they have grown accustomed. You will complete a circular loop within the reserve boundaries, passing several popular waterholes and dams that are often frequented by Elephant, Wildebeest and Lion. Those riders who regard themselves as even slightly “navigation savvy’, should find keeping their bearings relatively simple by orientating themselves with the ever present Waterberg Escarpment. Riders can take their time on this slightly shorter stage to enjoy the wonders of Legends Gorge one last time.
