The LionMan leg of the NISSAN TRAILSEEKER is owned by ADVENDURANCE. Now part of the NISSAN TrailSeeker Series, this legendary event has a long history! Only an hour and a half from Pretoria, LionMan. The race has a great history and has grown to one of the most prominent and popular mountain bike races in South Africa. The “LionMan” MTB race has become a “must-do-event” for all seasoned cyclists but also for families and newcomers to the sport. This year the Lion Man has undergone some exciting changes on route, we have carefully read and listened to feedback from the previous year’s races and believe we have come up with the best route possible for everyone, with no overlaps and no bottle necks, show casing the best Mabalingwe has to offer in mountain biking! FUN RIDE The fun ride is aimed at the young or family to ride together. The route meanders through the bushveld on dual tracks and gravel roads. FUN RACE The fun race is aimed at the inexperienced mountain biker who seldom rides much off road and does not have a great deal of fitness. The route will have mostly dual tracks and gravel roads and is considered easy, once you can complete the FUN RACE in 1h30min or less you can move up to the Half-Marathon distance. The route ventures many of the grasslands and sections in the southern part of the resort. Some nice singletrack and dual track sections can be experienced. HALF MARATHON Relatively fit, intermediate skilled, recreational riders will find the short climbs and some of the rocky surfaces challenging. Where the surfaces and descents are dangerous it is recommended that riders be cautious. Please remember to keep left and be cautious to faster riders who may want to pass. Words like “keep left”, “on your right” or “track” are often used. If you have difficulty with a section and resort to walking, please keep out of the way of upcoming cyclists.

The half marathon follows a completely separate route along the south western part of the resort. The route will be entirely separate to the marathon distance, and will all be on the western side of the airfield inreal bush where you should look out for game and even rhino’s! MARATHON Turning from just after the start the marathon will do a couple twists and turns before it heads up towards the Vodacom tower and the highest point on route. From here the route follows some undulating trails and singletrack with dual tracks sections till riders start climbing some concrete strips up to the most northern side of the resort. Here the bushes character is completely different from the southern side. The riders move along a contour path varying between dual and single track to a waterhole on the western side of the resort. Watch out for some hippos here! From here the route slowly makes it’s way back up the mountain on some 4x4 trails and down the other side on a brand new leopards Lair trail that’s been specially built where riders jump between some more dual and singletracks, making their way back to the finish.
