Call for divisions

Councillor Kerry Shine submitted a motion to this week’s Ordinary Meeting of Toowoomba Regional Council suggesting that the Council pursue a plan to create electoral divisions across the Region.

Cr Shine pointed out that since the 2008 election, the number of Councillors that had represented previous shires has continued to decrease.

Cr Shine said almost 15 years on from amalgamation, it is logical to conclude that in the next five to ten years, there is the potential that Toowoomba Regional Council could consist entirely of Councillors who are from and reside in the Toowoomba area.

“Unless there is change, to address this, those living in rural areas of the Toowoomba Region may feel further disconnected and disenfranchised,” he said.
