It looks like we’ve got a tough year ahead of us as inflation and cost of living pressures continue to build, putting strain on household budgets. A ninth consecutive interest rate rise means that mortgage holders will have to find a way to cover their increased repayments. With predictions that the cash rate will increase from its now 3.35% to above 4%, it would seem we still have a long way to go before we are through the worst of it.

All Welcome

This matters a lot to us here in the electorate of Groom, as we have the largest level of mortgage stress in Queensland and the fourth largest in Australia. I believe that is because we are a ‘have a go’ region. In Groom, ‘growth’ is good and we look for opportunities to invest and to get ahead. Look at how much our area has grown in recent years with significant investments like the Second Range Crossing, Inland Rail and the Wellcamp Airport all making our part of the world better.

TSBE recently announced that there is over $18b of public and private investment going on in Groom right now. I’m proud to say that includes projects like the Railway Parklands and the University of Queensland Trailblazer funding that I fought for and won in the last term.

You will always pay more under Labor but I will continue to stand up in Canberra and fight for our fair share.
