The Climb For Kids campaign was a huge success! In July, Jerod, along with friends, Pastor Billy Pate and Jake Pennington, made the 8-day trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness for the Advocates for Africa School in Rwanda. With your donations and sponsorship of the climb, we are proud to announce that we raised over $58,000 toward the school! These funds help us move forward to break ground on the school project. Of course, this campaign wasn’t all about the mountain. After the climb, the team flew to Rwanda where they delivered food to impoverished people and preached the Gospel. Thank you Advocates partners for helping the impovershed and poor. For videos and additiona photos of the climb, check out the Advocates for Africa Facebook Page.

Each year, we celebrate what God has done and cast vision for the year ahead. We celebrate the lives that were changed, the students that were educated, the villages that were forever altared because of your radical generosity. This year, the fourth-annual celebration dinner will be held on October 19th at Woodlake Church in Tulsa, Okla. We will be entertained by the Rwandan dance team, hear powerful stories, and hear from our founders about the incredible things coming up in 2019. Last year we had a record attendance, so you’ll want to mark your calendar and register fast, as this event may fill to capacity quickly. Don’t forget to bring friends who might be interested as well!

A few months ago we told you about the land that was purchased in order to build a church for a very small tribe in Rwanda. We’re proud to announce that THE CHURCH HAS BEEN BUILT. Our team from United Church in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, along with people from the local village, worked several days to get this new church ready for its first Sunday service. Once ready, Sunday came and we were astonished as this church was completely full. In fact, it was standing-room-only. The people worshipped and danced as we preached the Gospel and even baptized 15 new converts.

A gift of goats means more to a family than one might think: a family can have milk, which they can both consume and sell to earn money for other necessities. By providing this gift, we can help families become more self-sufficient, which leads to healthier children. They can then raise more goats, increasing the size of their herd, generating even more income and milk for their family. We want to thank all of you who have been giving toward this particular ministry. United Church helped to pay for and deliver 25 goats to poor families during their trip. These strategic partnerships are changing lives in Rwanda!

Our hearts break each time we walk through the village near the school grounds and see so many children without an opportunity for adequate education. That’s why we’ve been working very hard to get the school registered with the government. We are praying that we receive our registration soon so we can begin building on the property. We are asking you to pray with us. Additionally, we’ve been working with local architects and builders and should have the site plans very soon. These are exciting times and it’s all possible through our radically generous AFA family members like you!

According to UNISEF, there are around 2.4 billion people who do not use improved sanitation. That’s 1 out of every 3 people! The basic understanding of how germs spread and cause disease is something that we often take for granted in the Western world. However, there are still many in Africa that have never been taught these basics... until now. Katina, Co-Founder of Advocates for Africa, recently conducted a t raining for local women in a remote village where they learned the importance of sanitation. These women were so thankful for the information that would help to keep their families healthy. Through your vital partnership, we were able to provide soap and towels to each of these women. Education is taking place in Africa!
