Women who are homeless survive by being

putting him/her at risk for violence.

invisible. Staying awake through the night out of fear, they sleep on buses, hospitals, abandoned buildings, backyards, and alleyways in a desperate attempt to find shelter each night without being detected.

Women fleeing domestic violence and other forms of abuse are forced to give up homes, jobs, support systems, and more to escape, too often only to find themselves at equal or greater risk of danger in homeless shelters and on the streets.

Physically vulnerable and homeless women are at height risk of sexual assault, human trafficking, and violence in many forms.

Childhood abuse, domestic violence, and homelessness can become an endless cycle without access to the support and resources needed to heal broken bodies, minds, and spirits.

Moreover, childhood trauma unaddressed can impair the cognitive and social/emotional development of a child, education, and work success, and lead to a lifelong struggles with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions, such as substance abuse as a form of self-medication,

Women and children experiencing homelessness need a comprehensive support system and access to multi-faceted resources to truly break the cycle of abuse and homelessness.

RESEARCH: From Homelessness LOCATION

In Denver metro area, are over 6,100 homeless men, women, and children without permanent housing. According to the last statistic (March 2017) of the American Community Survey (ACS) and the U.S. Census Bureau (Department of Commerce), 33.7% of women with children are homeless. This is the reason why this project is relevant, and it will address a social need to ensure a better future for women and children in Colorado. The tentative city for this project is Lakewood.

to Self-Sufficiency Here are some of the questions asked to different women and children shelters and houses:

This question was also asked to multiple shelters and women houses, their unanimous answer was: thru education.

What is it like living in a homeless shelter?

Women and children expected when going to shelter or a temporary house:

What are the advantages of living in a shelter?

 A safe environment

What are the accommodations and how do they look?

 Basic necessities covered (food, clothes, etc.)

What do shelters provide? Now, how can we empower women with children to end the cycle of homeless?

 Confidentiality

Everything else is just a plus for them.

Mama Bear wants to provide more than shelter,

clothes, and food.

A warm a safe environment where they can develop their full potential. A inviting space full of light.

They will like to offer a counseling and support services, sensitive to the gender specific, that make healing possible, education, empowerment, and the opportunity to truly break the cycle of homelessness. They will welcome up to 16 homeless mothers with children from ages 0 to 15 in a respectful, nonstigmatizing environment that supports and nurtures.
