Dear friends,

{Note}

Time flies. Winter almost comes to its end, a new school year is getting prepared among Nepalese schools and at the Alliance and the last issue of our program to which Mireille Hamon-Loirat will have contributed before taking off towards new horizons. As I told you, time flies but this issue of Alliance Baza{a}r doesn’t loose the rhythm and once again comes to offer you with several events! Yes, all is a matter of rhythm and this is not Ozma that will contradict! At the beginning of this year, those 5 French musicians are the guests of the Alliance Française Jazz Club in India and Nepal. In partnership with the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, they’ll stay in Kathmandu for a week by meeting Nepalese musicians through workshops and shared repertory shows. If you are expecting something predictable and that has been tried many times before, this performance will probably be the wrong choice. It is for those looking for something different: originality and spontaneity! Don’t miss the event that will attract attention! A French Jazz band in Nepal, an Alliance still turned toward future, that announces the French language‘s week that is celebrated across the world. This “Francophonie” festival offers you this year to foresee the future through the theme “Words for tomorrow”. To each his own vision of the future. Come to express yours through the various activities conducted by our Alliance. Make the most of this week by meeting French people settled in Nepal and discover their activities and famous gastronomy. And that’s not all! Always moving, our team, in partnership with b&n, invites you to the first edition of the Animation Movie Festival, in April. Join to enjoy productions of this new style coming from all over the world, as well as few local productions. Future is getting prepared at every moment of life and the Alliance accompanies you through you steps: future around a coffee at “Le Bistrot”, future of your studies with Campus France desk, future of your administrative steps with the Translation desk. Think about it! See you soon!

On the occasion of the "Miles Music Festival", organized by Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, Alliance Française in Kathmandu & Infinity International present you

OZMA in Kathmandu a French Jazz Band, for an explosive Jazz !

David Florsch – saxophone, Matthias Mahler – trombone, Adrien Dennefeld – guitar, Edouard Séro-Guillaume – bass, Stéphane Scharlé – drums The young French performers “borrowed” the name for their group from the “Extra galactic life research”program “Ozma” of the NASA, or even from the great fantasy book "The Wizard of Oz", which features a character of a princess also called Ozma. Such flight of imagination is no surprise, as it is a distinctive feature of Ozma’s music. Musicians talk about their style as “jazz metric-rhythmic-swinging-warmly-festivedynamic-rough-explosive-music”. Didn’t understand? No need to ! If you like something that has been tried many times and is predictable, this performance will perhaps be the wrong choice. It is for those looking for originality and spontaneity !

The Miles Music Festival Uniting People with Music 2nd edition : 22 March 2009 – 29 March 2009

The Miles Music Festival is organized by KJC as a key event to promote music, culture and art in Nepal and internationally. The Miles Music Festival is an internationally recognized music festival where eastern and western music meet and mix, knowledge is shared and new styles are formed. The long-term perspective is to attract musicians worldwide for a unique learning and exchange opportunity based on the amazing cultural heritage of Hindustani music. While there are other music festivals organized in Nepal, the focus on educational aspects and mixing Nepali Folk, Hindustani and western styles makes The Miles Music Festival a truly unique event. For more information about the festival : KJC, Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur, Nepal. Phone: 01-5013554 / Email: info@katjazz.com / www.katjazz.com

Basanta ayo ! Echoes the valley. For sure, winter fades away without even having shown its face, or shily. So what do we have at Le Bistrot? Our menus, as usual available on our website, plus two events: the Francophonie week and the student’s party.

{Bistrot}

Monday to Friday 7am - 6:30pm

The Francophonie week is going to be held on the third week of March. What’s so special? This year the theme is “future”, around ten words that the magicians we are, at Le Bistrot, have turned into ten dishes! Pérenne (about a source that flows all year long): and we have found the potatoes source! Génome (genome): as here, at Le bistrot, we are brilliant scientists, we have discovered the Human Genome, can you imagine? Désirer (to desire): what can you desire more than chocolate? Think about it! Transformer (to transform): take a simple ingredient that modify the taste of your usual dish, and I am not going to tell you more for the time being! Capteur (sensor): what is our tongue if not a sensor of flavors? Compatible (compatible): in cooking, sometimes, the less obvious can reveal amazing! Clic (clic): can you feel the clic under your tooth? Vision (vision): close to hallucination, you don’t expect this, that’s for sure! Clair de terre (earthlight): its round, bright and creamy... Ailleurs (elsewhere): future comes from the past and food comes from all over as dishes can come from somewhere else. Everyday, two of those mysterious dishes will come out of our kitchen, prepared with passion and patience (as required by the art of cooking). Hum, sounds yummy isn’t it!

The Student’s party The session finishes on April 17 and to celebrate, we’ll have a big party. Entries are free for our students and cost 150 rupees plus a complimentary drink for the others. On the “syllabus”: student’s shows, food, drinks and dance party. Don’t miss it and come prove your suppleness on the dance floor!!! So, now that you have many reasons to come, we’ll be glad to serve you, as usual! Le Bistrot Team.
