Our travel-themed fair will be bursting with galleries and artists from the international community. Alongside our muchloved returning exhibitors you’ll spot the likes of Aboriginal Art Galleries all the way from Australia, Nine Gallery from South Korea and Gallerie Ganache from Belgium. As you explore the fair you may also spot that for the first time we are inviting our galleries to introduce solo artist showcases. Our new Hampstead Hotspots installation will bring the Champagne Bar to life with their international theme, and Made in Arts London are back with their very best emerging artists in a feature exhibition focusing on what diversity means post Article-50. If you want to journey deeper into the process of making art, our jam-packed programme of workshops, talks and tours is sure to keep you busy whilst browsing, and we are thrilled to be working with local partners JW3 and Hampstead School of Art to offer a range of events for the little and big kids alike. City Lit will also be on hand to deliver taster sessions of their popular part time art courses, so get ready to expand your horizons and be creative in the process! With our travel theme in mind, whether it’s a budget ‘weekend break’ or a lavish ‘continental escape’, you’ll find work here by over 1,000 artists to transport you – I’m certain you’ll discover a stunning sculpture or special print you just can’t help but take home.

Word on the Heath is you couldn’t wait any longer so… we’re back! Returning in the slightly earlier month of May, we are setting up shop for the seventh time on beautiful Hampstead Heath. During what can only be described as peculiar political times, we cannot wait to play our part in demonstrating that London is at the forefront of internationalism in art. With a record number of galleries from across the globe all under one roof at this year’s Hampstead fair, we will be celebrating our iconic city’s rightful place - firmly at the centre of the art world map. Destination art, here we come!
DESTINATION ART! We’ve prepared a packed itinerary for you at this year’s fair, so buckle in and see where the Hampstead fair could take you…

PHOTOGR APH Y IN F OCU S Whether it’s a quick snap taken on a disposable camera or a posed picture in front of the perfect vista, we’ve all got a box of photographs taken on our travels stashed away somewhere. With this fair’s theme of internationalism in mind, it’s a great opportunity to focus on the medium of photography and those artists capturing more exotic climes through their lenses. In addition, this year’s introduction of Hampstead Hotspots, located in the Champagne Bar, will give those relaxing with a glass of the good stuff a chance to dream of far flung places; the likes of which photographer Charles Emerson captures in his typically aesthetic and epic style. The stoic sight of Mount Fuji, installed on a plinth to align with the points of the compass from which Charles photographed it, forms the focal point for his new body of work. This presentation of his inspirational images is sure to inspire a purchase, and perhaps even a trip abroad! Top tips for collecting photography Photography is an engaging and accessible collecting category so here are a few tips on where to start: The nature of photography as an artistic practice means there’s so much to see. And seeing - at every possible opportunity - is the best way to refine your eye. The fair gives you a great opportunity to take in a range of styles in one place and hone your taste! Understanding the medium is important because, like the condition of the work, it can help guide you on the value of the piece. There are gelatin silver prints, chromogenic prints, dye-transfer prints and digital prints, to name a few, and our expert gallerists are on hand to explain the techniques and artists’ processes. Unlocking the mystery is key to helping you make your decision. HA MP STE A D 2 01 7
Collecting photography is similar to collecting etchings or screenprints in that work is often editioned. In general, the smaller the edition size, the rarer the work, the higher the price. Here at the fair we have a strict limit on edition size, so you can be confident in your choice.

WILDLIFE ON THE HE ATH This year’s School’s Art Competition is supported by Anscombe and Ringland, with special thanks to City of London Corporation. Hampstead Heath is one of London’s most popular open spaces but did you know that the Heath features a number of priority species identified in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, including lesser spotted woodpecker, bullfinch, stag beetle and grass snakes? Not to mention more common, but no less fascinating creatures, such as squirrels, foxes, frogs and a huge variety of birds. We put out a brief to local primary and secondary school children asking them to use Hampstead Heath as their inspiration to create an artwork titled ‘Wildlife on the Heath’. We got a huge variety of responses, from realistic recreations of favourite animals to more imaginative exotic creatures! We even invited children to consider plants.
Year 4 & under winner: Ella McGarry, Fitzjohn’s Primary School
Years 5 & 6 winner: Mae Poole-Whyte, Fleet Primary School
Make sure you head to the Creative Studio to see a selection of the shortlisted entries, no doubt we have a few artists of the future on the walls! With thanks to participating schools:
