The Hong Kong French Film Festival – French Cinepanorama returns to the delight of all cinema-goers, showcasing 40 of the best and latest French films including 6 dedicated to the iconic French actor Michel Piccoli.
香港影迷的佳音，香港法國電影節再次為觀衆獻上四十 部最新最好的法國電影，當中包括回顧六部法國影壇殿 堂級演員米修柏哥里（Michel Piccoli）的影片。
French Cinepanorama invites the public to discover a representative and wide range of French contemporary cinema, be it through the feel-good sense of light humour from My Cousin by Jann Kounen, the appetite for drama in Lovers by Nicole Garcia, or the historical focus on the French spirit of resistance in De Gaulle by Gabriel Le Bomin. In parallel, the spectators will be able to enjoy a series of zoom conferences, masterclasses and Q & A sessions featuring some of the finest French directors and actors.

In full compliance with local social-distancing measures, this new edition of French Cinepanorama is going to be a unique opportunity for the general public to discover new French productions that they will undoubtedly love, as demonstrated a few months ago by the success of Les Misérables in the Hong Kong box-office.

Alliance Française is proud to present another exciting programme to Hong Kong film lovers in conditions we have never experienced over the past 48 editions. The pandemic fosters to redesign the format of the festival, and we might even have to adapt it again before the launch of the 49th edition.
面對過去四十八屆從未經歷過的狀況，香港法國文化協 會非常榮幸能再度為香港電影愛好者帶來新一屆精彩的 電影節。疫情促使世界各地重新規劃電影節的模式，而 在第四十九屆香港法國電影節開鑼之前，我們的模式也 會有可能再次進行調整。
Since its establishment in 1953, Alliance Française de Hong Kong has been dedicated to bringing the best and the latest French cinema to Hong Kong audience, as well as the most updated experience.
自 1953 年成立以來，香港法國文化協會一直致力於將 最好和最新的法國電影，以及法國最新的見聞帶給香港 觀衆。
Our teams continuously worked to build a comprehensive and innovative program that mixes online and in-cinema screenings: 14 movies of our selection will be on our online platform and will insure that the film lovers get a Festival experience whatever the sanitary situation is at the time of viewing. More than 25 other movies will be exclusively in cinema halls.

About the French Cinepanorama 關於香港法國電影節
As a pioneer of Hong Kong’s film festivals, Alliance Française de Hong Kong has screened over 1,600 acclaimed French films since 1953. The 49th edition will continue to bring the latest and best of French Cinema to Hong Kong film lovers.
香港法國文化協會作為香港電影節的先鋒，自 1953 年起已在香港已展映超過一千六百部法國電影。第四十九屆 電影節將繼續為香港觀眾帶來最新、最經典的法國電影。
How Did It Start? 源起
Alliance Française de Hong Kong has been committed to the promotion of French cinema since its very inception; when it was established in 1953, the very first French Film Festival was also organised. That 1953 edition was the pioneering film festival in Hong Kong, making it the oldest celebration of film in the city. Since then, the festival has always brought the latest French films to Hong Kong. 自 1953 年創立以來舉行第一屆法國電影節開始，香港法國文化協會一直堅負推展法國電影的重任。同年便舉辦了 第一屆法國電影節，是香港電影節的先驅，亦因此是香港歷史最悠久的電影節。自此，法國電影節不斷為香港大眾帶 來最新的法國電影。
More Than 49 Editions Of The Festival 超過四十九屆電影節
Since 1972, Alliance Française de Hong Kong has collaborated with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and made the film festival an annual event. Thus far, the festival has screened more than 1,600 French films, attracted a diversified audience, ranging from cinema lovers to the general public, and even some Hong Kong artists and directors who have had their first exposure to French cinema through the festival. 自 1972 年起，香港法國電影節與康樂及文化事務署合作，成為每年舉行的年度電影盛事。香港法國電影節至今已 放映了過千齣法國電影，由電影發燒友到普羅大眾，吸引了廣泛的觀眾入場觀賞，當中更包括一些透過本電影節首次 接觸法國電影的香港藝人及導演。

The festival always promotes and accompanies the evolution of French cinema, including the prominent and influential New Wave movement. Each festival has been a new challenge for the team to continuously bring to the Hong Kong audience different facets of French cinema. The Organisations Behind The Festival 電影節背後的機構
The festival is passionately created and presented by Alliance Française de Hong Kong, the city’s French language and cultural centre since 1953. Guillaume de Fontenay’s rigorous, meticulous filmmaking work has earned him international awards. His short film Le Retour triptique was selected by SODEC to be presented at Clermont-Ferrand and at various festivals in Quebec, Italy and the United States. From 2005, de Fontenay set out to direct his first feature film, Sympathy for the Devil, inspired by the story of war journalist Paul Marchand during the siege of Sarajevo. Sympathy for the Devil was presented in 2019-2020 in various International Film Festivals where it has won 18 awards/ been honored 18 awards and nominations. ay 2020 was a sad month for French cinema lovers. Michel Piccoli, Jean-Loup Dabadie and then Guy Bedos passed away in less than 3 weeks. Although those names may not be familiar to the youngest, those three artists landmarked one of the best period of French cinema, the 60s and the 70s. Be as screenplay writer like Dabadie (with Sautet, Robert, Boisset, Truffaut…) or a comedian like Bedos or Piccoli, those artists left an incredible imprint on the 7 th Art that we celebrate here.
We mainly dedicated our Retrospective to Michel Piccoli but one movie by Sautet with screenplay by Dabadie is also proposed. Michel Piccoli’s career spreads from the early 50s to the 2010s in both Cinema and Theater in which he was a praised value. He was directed by the greatest masters – from Godard to Buñuel, Demy, Varda, Chabrol, Sautet, Lelouch, Ferreri, Bellochio, Régy, Resnais, Carax… – on stage and in front of the cameras in more than 200 movies, 50 plays and 50 TV shows. 70 years of an intense and eclectic career.

American film producer Jeremy Prokosch hires respected Austrian director Fritz Lang to direct a film adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. Dissatisfied with Lang’s treatment of the material as an art film, Prokosch hires Paul Javal, a novelist and playwright, to rework the script. Le Doulos begins by introducing us to Maurice, an ex-con, just released from prison after serving a six-year sentence. He then murders his friend, Gilbert, and steals the jewels he had been hiding, products of a recent heist. Shortly afterwards, Maurice plans a heist of a rich man’s estate and shares his plan with Silien, who is rumored to be a police informant. Silien is later picked up and questioned by the police. Her son, Milou, who has always lived with his mother, summons the rest of the family for the funeral. Children and grand-children of the dear departed are delighted or displeased to find themselves together again. But the “events” happening in Paris catch up with them: the gravediggers are on strike and the funeral cannot be held…
French Cancan Henri Danglard, the proprietor of the fashionable (but bankrupt) cafe ‘Le Paravent Chinois’ featuring his mistress, belly dancer Lola, goes slumming in Montmartre (circa 1890) where the then-old-fashioned cancan is still danced. There, he conceives the idea of reviving the cancan as the feature of a new, more popular establishment... and meets Nini, a laundress and natural dancer, whom he hopes to star in his new show. In this WW II drama, twelve captured French soldiers await their impending execution in a German prison camp. Fortunately, a Resistance team comes to rescue the ill-fated dozen. The rescue attempt succeeds, but the rebels become worried when they discover a thirteenth prisoner in their midst. This fellow carries no ID, and they must decide whether he should die on the spot or go on with the others. The Sleeping Car Murders Compartiment tueurs 火車情殺案
Six people travel by train overnight from Marseilles to Paris. When the train arrives at its destination, one of the passengers, a girl, is found dead in a sleeping berth. The police led by Inspector Grazzi investigate the other five passengers, suspecting that one of them was responsible. However, as the investigation is stepped up, the other passengers start turning up dead.
