Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 7 2017 It is now round 7 and we are quickly approaching the half way mark. This week marks Indigenous Round in the AFL as well as community football leagues including the MPNFL. The round named aims to celebrate and commemorate indigenous players and culture, both of which play a huge role in our great game. There is now only one more week until the Quit Challenge Round showcasing and promoting healthy sporting clubs in the MPNFL and our community. Every club will be playing a role on the day with Frankston Bombers and Devon Meadows hosting the Quit Challenge Marquee game, St Kilda Football Club will be attendance running a handball competition for kids as well as Peninsula Health who will be providing information in relation to world no tobacco day. Best of luck to all sides for this weekend.

Bendigo Community Bank 2017 Energy Safe Round WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country and Energy Safe Victoria are joining forces to spread a warning to country Victorians about the dangers of working around powerlines in the annual Energy Safe Round on Saturday May 27. Supporting country football in Victoria for the last six years, Energy Safe Victoria has created the Look up and Live campaign to remind country Victorians to be safe around powerlines. This season, AFL Goulburn Murray will host the annual Energy Safe Victoria event at Mansfield Recreation Reserve for the Round 6 Goulburn Valley Football Netball League clash between Mansfield and Benalla. While the dedicated game will be held in northern Victoria this year, Energy Safe’s message is extremely poignant to all country football communities. Energy Safe Victoria together with AFL Victoria ask all in country football to pay attention to this vital message – “Look up & Live” - and to observe the three metre safety zone around powerlines.

“It could be the most important look of your life, and may mean you can enjoy another season of country footy with your family.” ESV Safety tips: To ensure the safety of workers and property owners Energy Safe Victoria advises people to take extra care to watch for powerlines if your work involves: •

Football Preview Blues in blockbuster By Toe Punt Hastings will be involved in its second Nepean Division blockbuster in as many weeks today when it hosts the navy blues, Rosebud. In the opening rounds of the season, Hastings was ‘just’ travelling and picking up wins along the way. In the past three weeks, against Dromana, Crib Point and Red Hill, it has been motoring. Blues coach Brendan Dunne said on the RPP Footy Show a few weeks ago that he was proud of the resolve of the group to be winning games on the back of not playing “great footy”. However, wind the clock forward and Dunne is pretty happy with the way his team is now going. “We played really good footy against Dromana and we were very good against Red Hill too,” Dunne said. Red Hill coach Tony Blackford said after the Hastings game that the Blues were far better prepared now than they were this time last year and declared that they “are the side to beat”. The midfield depth of the Blues was good last year but now it has gone up a level with Ricky Ferraro and David Hirst able to go through there. Add the likes of Mark Devereaux, Luke Clark, Luke Smith and Nathan Gray into the midfield mix and then Matt Clifford and Shaun Foster can go through there also.

The beauty of Clark, Foster and Clifford is that they can become key targets in attack when resting. The Blues also have the best ruckman in the business in Josh Mulheron and there’s not a weak link in its wellstructured, disciplined, experienced and composed defence, led by Brendan Dunne and Paul Rogasch. Jake Hewitt provides plenty of dash from the back half also, while his brother Luke at the other end is the most powerful ‘pound-for-pound’ player in the competition. As we know in this competition though, you are only as good as your last performance. This is a big challenge for Rosebud. The Buds have faced previous challenges against Red Hill and Sorrento and failed them both. One thing is for sure, when the Buds do get the opportunity to kick a goal, they need to convert. Its conversion percentage this season has not been flattering. Brenton Payne and Greg Bentley are important players for the Buds and they were at their best last week. Keegan Downie is going to need some help in attack and throwing Bentley up there might be the key. In defence, Rosebud will be challenged to hold onto the opposition and prevent Hastings from kicking a winning score. It’s near impossible to see Rosebud beating Hastings today. DEVON MEADOWS will be looking to get back on the winners’ list against RYE.

Football Preview The Meadows were very good last week at Rosebud without Allan Murray, however, bad kicking from the opposition kept them in it. Rye was right in the contest against Somerville and certainly left the ground with plenty to be happy about. However, the Demons have placed themselves in good positions, only to be run down with bad periods of footy. Whilst the Meadows will win, Rye needs to find the level of consistency that allows them to still be in the game at the end. PEARCEDALE has been pretty ordinary over the past month but has a real opportunity to get things back on track against RED HILL. The Panthers have not really been competitive since the Frankston win, losing to Rye and Dromana in the past four matches – teams they were expected to beat. Red Hill should be seething from its performance last week. On the big stage against the reigning premier, the Hillmen buckled under the pressure. Poor decision making and poor skill execution were the reason they lost. The glaring issue with Red Hill, however, last week was the fact they didn’t protect one another. If it was too hot for one, they flicked the ball off and made it someone elses’ problem. Chris Irving had countless opponents beating up on him all day and not once did he receive a show of support. He handles himself beautifully but even Irving needs support!

It’s O.K to look the goods when you can dictate terms, play your style and on the outside, however, premierships aren’t won this way – you’ve got to be able to withstand pressure and win contested footy. The Panthers will go after the Hillmen today and make it a tough, contested scrap. How will Red Hill respond?

Football Preview CRIB POINT and DROMANA will go into their clash today with great confidence that they can win. The young Pies have played some good footy in parts, as have the Tigers. Dromana got the job done last week against Pearcedale and should be buoyed by that result. The Tigers should go in as favorites, however, the Pies will win at home. SORRENTO hosts SOMERVILLE. In its past five matches, the Sharks have scored 130, 177, 154, 162 and 215 points against the opposition. It has scored 922 points in six matches at an average of 153 points. The opposition has scored just 48 points on average against. The Eagles should forget about winning today, because that’s not a possibility. What the visitors should be focussing on is getting within 10 goals – that would be a small victory! TYABB too needs to try and get within 100 points of FRANKSTON BOMBERS at the pond – once again, the only way that won’t happen is if the Bombers kick inaccurately. Jay Reynolds will be eying-off a double-digit bag today and he should get it! Corey Buchan will rub salt into the wounds and claim himself another BOG!

Another tough game down at Sorrento last week. We had 5 changes to the snr team with Jack Anderson & Josh Chalmers playing there first games. The Tyabb boys battled hard for the 4 qtrs. Bradie Boer played another great game in the ruck & is really improving with each game. No doubt the class of Sorrento was going to be a big challenge but the team did work hard for the entire game & must do the same today. We welcome Frankston Bombers to the pond today & this is another big challenge for us, character require by everyone who takes the field with a never say die attitude. Reserves- With a side containing six new players in this week against the top team it was going to be interesting to see how they gelled. From the start the boys worked hard defensively & put the pressure on the talented opposition. When going forward we were able to capitalise on the great work done by our defence led by Andrew Whalley and 50th Club gamer Josh Coulter. It was always going to be a tough ask but the discipline of the group to stick to a game plan, though not showing on the score board was an admirable effort and one that shows this side can far this season. 19s - It was great to see a full team at Sorrento for the first time this season, we are appreciative & thank Mount Eliza FC & Devon Meadows FC for the support of our under 19 team. Underwood & Williams showed their class with both playing well for the 4 qtrs. FUNCTIONS- Get your tickets to the ball now! NIP NIP!

Under 19’s

Club Notes

The Under 19’s were coming off back to back wins and were looking in good form. Once again the boys got off to a slow start.The second half was a good standard of footy from both teams. With a couple of minutes to go there was less than a goal in it, but Frankston kicked a late one to win by 11 points. Best players were Nick Rutherford, Aaron King, Jack Hill, Will Larkin, Aaron Whitford. It was neck and neck in the Reserves at quarter time as both sides refused to let either team take control of the game. Unfortunately Crib Point stopped there and allowed the Bombers to move the ball freely as they took a healthy lead into half time and finished with a 34 point win. The 2’s backline were under siege all day, Jake ‘the Snake’ Cook and veteran Cal ‘Cal Pal Campbell were brilliant all day. Tim ‘Mr.Realiable’ Malcom has been damaging in the forward line early in the year but Coach Crossman has come to realise that he’s better suited in defence after he helped repel the Bombers advances all day long. For the Seniors if was a game of two halves. In the first half the Pies played a fast exciting brand of football that Coach Brad Arnold has been pushing his side for all year. In the second half Frankston took over and made their presence felt on the field and on the scoreboard. Some good signs moving forward though, with another BOG performance to young Riley Bowman who gave Crib Points midfielders first use. Jayden Espenschied once again was solid down back.

The game last week against Pearcedale saw mixed results with the Seniors producing a scrappy win that indicates we are not far away from our best and the U19s leaving it until the last quarter to post a good win and the Reserves with an extremely patched up team due to a lot of players been unavailable for various reasons struggled once again to match it with the opposition. A highlight of the day was Senior Captain Terry Wheeler celebrated his 100th game in what has been a great career at Dromana. Today’s Senior game sees two sides who probably hoped to be better placed on the ladder at this time in the season fight it out for the pride of possessing the Edgerton Shield for the next year and as always we expect it to be a close battle. If you haven’t bought a membership this year we are offering them at $50 for the next two weeks, or you could sponsor a player for $220 inc GST which includes Membership and entry in a Raffle for a Ticket to the President’s Luncheon. The Queen’s Birthday game against Red Hill for the Bluey Holmes Shield will be played at Dromana on the Sunday as per previous seasons not Saturday as listed in the fixture. We are still looking for some volunteers for various areas around the club including on the Board. So if you feel you have something to contribute speak to our Secretary. Lastly make sure your putting your money away for a Major Raffle ticket which will be on sale shortly. GO TIGERS!!!

The sun was out and skies were clear last week, a great result compared to what we’re expecting. The Yabbies descended into town and we were ready to kick off round 6 after the week’s bye. The young Yabbies came to play and for a while it seemed our boys could be in for a tight tussle. As the game wore on the young sharks pulled away and finished with a comfortable victory. No time to rest on the laurels though as we face a massive challenge today against the Eagles. A challenge, but one we’re sure the boys are looking forward to. The Scoobs kept their undefeated season in tact with a good win against a side that was in for a scrap. Yabbies at noon are never an easy dish and this year would be no different, but under the watchful eye of Coach Phillips, this group has a belief and eventually wore down a feisty opponent. The ones had a number of changes which gave an opportunity to some who had been knocking loudly. Again the Yabbies had a crack although going down by a big margin. It’s a big month ahead now and a real chance to secure a spot in the top portion of the ladder. Competition for spots is red hot so everyone should be cracking in. Good luck today in all grades, let’s enjoy our last home game for a month. Thought of the week: If a pig loses its voice is it disgruntled!

It has been 4 years since we have ventured down the bay, to play Sorrento at Sorrento. I reckon the team that runs out this Saturday there would be lucky to be no more than 6 from that team. Back in 2013 we were totally touched up and lost by over 100points. Sedgy had hair back then too! We are a 3rd of the way through the season. U19s 5&1, 2nds 3&3 and Seniors 4&2. It has been a good start to the season, previously with 12 senior players unavailable and over 6 players debuting in the 1s signs are that the group are improving and adapting under our new senior coaching staff Bevan Malloy and Andres Everitt. Today is going to be massive challenge for the club, with Sorrento undefeated in both 1s and 2s and their U19s only a game behind us on the ladder. We must rise to the challenge! Last week saw us get 3 from 3 wins, with both U19s and reserves just doing enough to win and the 1s having an excellent 2nd half to run out 35 point winners. U19s were in control all day but couldn’t put the foot to the floor and ran out 39 point winners. The 2nds down by 20 points and totally undiscipline were looking at their season disappearing. To their credit they regrouped and kicked 10 goals to 4 in the 2nd half to run out 20pt winners. The 1s were pretty much tied up at half time but a great 2nd half where we kicked 9 to 4 goals saw us run out 35 point winners. Well done to Kim and her band of helpers who made the Ladies Day such a successful and memorable occasion. The Bays Hospital in Mornington will benefit from the day, and breast cancer awareness increased. Unfortunately the success was not matched on the field as our two senior sides went down to Hasting’s sides who finished off both games very strongly. It was left to the U19s and the C and D grade netballers to even the ledger for the day. Thank you to all the players who helped with the 10 Junior sides clinic and the Auskickers morning last week. Terrific effort. Great to have Trevor back supporting the club he vicecaptained in 1966, and to have him see JOCKERS reach 150 games. Wandered up to Red Hill on Saturday for a pretty successful day, with 2 wins out of 3 for the football teams. The 3rds took on top placed and undefeated Red Hill, and certainly were not disgraced, a few skill errors here and there was probably the difference, and to go down to the top side by about 10 goals is probably not too bad, just keep training boys listen to Laurie and the wins will be just around the corner. The Reserves like to make it tough for themselves each week, but at this stage keep winning, and with a bit of luck, should probably be undefeated, but like the 3rds, keep training hard, as we have a few tough games coming up, but so far so good, well done. The seniors had to take on a side that has had our measure over the last few years and other than last years final, had won the previous 4 times, it was a pretty good game of football to watch, and at the halfway point of the 3rd Quarter, the scores were level and the game was there for the team that wanted it the most, and fortunately it was our boys, the last 40 minutes of the game was just great pressure footy all over the ground, then the forwards capped of the great work upfield by kicking true and straight, it was a great team performance and a great win against one of this seasons top contenders, well done. Today let’s hope we get to travel home the short way with an overdue win over Hastings on their turf. Our two teams are in a remarkably similar position to last year and we face two big challenges over the next 2 weeks that have the potential to shape our season. Our strength continues to lie in our backline who do a wonderful job of setting up our attacks on goal –let’s hope they continue in that vein today. At the other end last week we were dominant with 29 scoring shots to 16 but only walked away with a 13 point win – we will need to be more accurate to give ourselves a chance today! There were many recognised contributors which is good news – BP was everywhere, Jake had his break out game, Matty B in a new role, GB welcome back, Bart and Tommy “the Moe” were terrific! The Development squad certainly hit the scoreboard in a big way coincidently also having 29 scoring shots but slotting 19 majors. Scotty Stirling has his hand up, along with Benny G, Curtis, Fabulous, Ed S and Travis down back. The Unders were hardy thrilled by another training session due to a forfeit by Devon, but their resilience & discipline will have its day. Well done to the social committee for last week’s Wild Wild West night which was very well attended – lock in our next function Band Night on 17 June. Great to be back at home this week, and we welcome Rye Footy and Netball Club to our green pastures. Should be a few cracking contests today so we hope you enjoy your stay and stick around for a beer after the game. Bit of a blast from the past last week as we saw a few names get called up for Rynos 200th in the Reserves. Committee stalwart Keysy, Ex-Barman Juz Corrigan and former B&F winner Squeak were all on deck at short notice to fill the void after a raft of injuries over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough though and the 2’s couldn’t get the job done against a solid Rosebud outfit. Huge congratulations regardless must go to Ryan Atwood, he has a massive heart, doesn’t miss a training session and is the epitome of what country footy is all about - having a fair dinkum crack week in - week out. Ryno also does more than his fair share behind the scenes at the club and our hat does go off to him for his achievement last week. Lets hope the Tigers might actually hang on to a lead and get the 4 points for you this week. Well done mate. Next week after the Crib Point home game, our next function “Full Moon - White Party”. 7.00pm onwards at the club, Level 1, $10 per head. Beach theme, so dress up in White, Fluoro or Hawaiian. Ben Trivett no fireman’s outfit this week. Limbo comp, daiquiri machine and plenty of fun to be had. Prizes for the 3 best dressed people. Devon Meadows this week, and a chance for all 3 teams to get back on the winners list. The seniors played 3 quarters last week, but boys it’s a 4-quarter effort that’s required. Great game by the “Fireman” Ben Trivett, “Spider” Wilson, “Pistol” Pete Hampton, Willsy, “H Man” Harry Whitty and brother Oscar. We need 22 contributors, so let’s not leave it up to 5 or 6 players. The reserves lost a game they probably should have won, but like the seniors, only played 3 quarters. Mitch Dunn played a blinder and would be knocking on the door for senior selection, closely followed by the new Dad, Daniel Cimino, and Will Cooper. Angus “I love Adelaide” Emery battled hard all day, along with Jarvis “Cotchin” Anderson and the “ Wile E Coyote” himself Matt Wylie. The under 19’s had a real crack, but where beaten by a better side on the day. Many positives already for this group and today is a day you should get your 3rd win. However nothing comes easy on the football field so let’s go about it the right way and be switched on from the start. The Trail Of The Thin White Line… Ever wonder what it takes to be a boundary umpire? That’s the tick tocking clunk that goes on up in the brain every time a whippet flies past straddling that curved white line. Well you’ve already been ruled out. Remember back in primary where you used to walk the lines of a basketball like a tightrope? And there you have it… boundary umpiring. Just follow the trail of the thin white line…back and forth…back and forth. Screams…cries…boundary umpires everywhere who think they’re so much smarter than that. But honestly, what part of the brain says that running 18 long kms in belting sun, pouring rain or tornado like winds is smarter than sitting on a goal line under an umbrella with a pyramid of hotdogs? Just think about that… But you’d guess they must have some kind of importance…shouldn’t they? Well even though they were the last discipline introduced into league games back in 1904 they were given the power to report in 1909. A full 12 months prior to the goal umpires…and the boundaries go whack. Pity the goal umpires have four poled flags that make nice contact… But hey…they have value too. They’re like a winger. By far the flashiest looking player on the ground when they get the ball on the outside and glide done the boundary. And…guess flashy counts for something. So we may give them a bit. Say that they can’t throw. Say that they’re useless. But when it all comes down to it they’re probably the most valuable member of our group. Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 7 2017 Tyabb v Frankston This game should a fantastic one to watch this week. Frankston last week had the challenge of playing Crib Point and couldn’t get the job done. They will be looking to rectify this against another quality opponent in Tyabb. The Yabbies have got their season back on track and will be looking to further continue up the ladder. Frankston to bounce back this week but only just. Crib Point v Dromana A draw for the Tigers last weekend would have been a bitter sweet result. Although the two points are nice, 4 certainly would have been better. Crib Point just keep doing what Crib Point knows best and at the moment that is winning. The Magpies will be too strong for Dromana today.

Devon Meadows v Rye Big game for both clubs. Devon Meadows hasn’t been able to fire too much this year and Rye’s season has been up and down so far. Rye need this win to stay in touch with the top four and that should be enough to get them the four points. Pearcedale v Red Hill Last game of the round and it also proposes to be a sensational game of netball. Pearcedale will be annoyed that twice this year they have had a draw, which means that they are not finishing things off or letting oppositions get away early in a game. Red Hill have gone a bit backwards in this season, but no doubt that they just won’t roll over for the Panthers. It will be another tight score line with Pearcedale to get the jo done this week. Sorrento v Somerville The Sorrento girl keep giving their best each week, and the improvement can be seen. This week they take on Somerville who are yet to drop a game. While the Eagles will win, it another opportunity for the Sharks to show their improvements.

Although we didn’t come out with a win, the girls stayed positive and played very well together.The defensive work done by Brooke, Emma and Brigette set up many scoring opportunities for us and everyone on court did there job well. Excited for next weeks game. The B girls played an amazing game this week, and the score definitely didn’t reflect how well we played as a team. Ebony played a great game in centre court running out the whole game, Kirra using great skills to get the ball to goals and the girls in defence played amazingly well trying to get that ball back down to the goal ring for our shooters Emma, Anna who played great against a hard team like Tyabb. Thanks to Charlee and Sarah for stepping in this week it really made the game run smoothly having more players to help us out. A Grade Girls played a tough game against Tyabb this sat. With Nova, Grace and Beth killing it in defence. The mid court girls never gave up putting in 100%! Well done to Charlie, Tayla and Soph!! Hope everyone has a great afternoon at the First LADIES DAY!!! We would all like to thank Athena and Emma for their amazing efforts of organising it, as well as everyone else involved. Go Sharks!!!!

We didn’t come away with a win but our systems are coming together. A definite highlight was Alana successfully scoring from a lay up. Rosebud Buds

A-Grade – Another great start to what we knew was going to be a tough and physical game. We built as the game continued and consistently put pressure on all over the court. Well done A-Grade, great win! Awards – #1 Courtney, #2 Lauren. B-Grade – We started absolutely firing getting a 9 goal lead by quarter time. Devon then kicked into gear in the second and made a massive comeback. It made a tough contest for the rest of the game. The Devon girls plus the heat of the sun wore us out, well done to them for coming out with the win. Special mention to Mez for playing her personal best game. Awards – #1 Shannon (C), #2 Jess (GK). C-Grade – We played a great all-round game against a really strong competitive team who worked brilliantly together. Defensive pressure the whole way down the court gave our defenders a real crack at getting the ball back. Unfortunately we went down by a fair margin but to us it was a win. We will come out bigger and better this week. Under 17s – It was a slow start to the day. By second quarter the girls woke up and began to apply defensive pressure down the court. Third quarter the girls worked it out playing their best quarter of the day combing back to be 2 behind. Unfortunately we dropped off in the last quarter. Great work to Acacia for her effort and consistent drives! Awards – #1 Acacia, #2 Gemma. Go Buds!

Somerville Eagles Devon Meadows Panthers

We had a tough round against rosebud, coming away with two wins and two loses. D grade had the week off this week but are keen to get out there for a tough game against rye. C grade came out firing, beating rosebud 46 to 25. The girls smashed out there systems and everyone held there own the court. The girls are improving more and more with each game and are looking at a good chance for finals. Boc B grade came out on top this week, winning 40 to 24. After a messy couple of weeks the girls stepped out on the court and really worked as a team. After being down by 9 goals after the first quarter they made a huge come back. The defensive pressure was fantastic across the court and although we had two shooters who haven’t played together before they settled very quickly. After a week off we were all excited to get back down to the Nest for our games against Rye on what was a surprisingly sunny day. The D girls had their best game yet. It was a close game, the girls showing improvements and motivation, unfortunately Rye got away in the last quarter. The C girls came away with a great win after a slow first quarter. There were fantastic passages of play and new skills learnt that were being performed on court. It was great to see Kay Morgan making her comeback!! The B girls went into their game with the intent to stay strong throughout all 4 quarters. There were some new combinations tested and good defensive pressure all the way down the court. They worked hard and came away with a big win. The A girls focused on their game plan and executing the basics well which led to them coming away with a convincing win. This week we travel down to Sorrento where we are looking to come away with straight wins. GO EAGLES!!!!

With the sun shining we headed to Frankston and looked forward to 4 quality games. D grade welcomed back old favourite Lesli into the team, combining an experienced goaling end with a young attacking and defensive side. Frankston were very strong in attack giving the defenders a hard job but they battled on getting tips, intercepts and rebounds. BOC went to Tarryn for a great job in GK. Constantly fighting back during each quarter the girls couldn’t make up the gap losing by 17. In C grade it was 1st Vs 2nd and our girls proved why there on top. A solid team effort from defense to goals kept them that step ahead. Frankston fought back in the 3rd but our girls kept their heads high and settled the game back onto their terms. BOC went to Amie for an amazing game and reading the play well in defense. B grade suffered their first loss of the season to a very good Frankston side. Our girls had a good three quarters but we unfortunately gave them too big of a lead in the second and were unable to make up the gap. Defenders worked tirelessly all day and BOC went to Brooke who dominated. We showed good fight to the end but were beaten on the day. A grade had a ripper game against a top 4 side. With Adrienne and Dionne out Holly Adams and Alicia stepped up slotting into the team well. BOC went to Meg who had an amazing game in WA moving the ball down the court nicely. Leah and Belinda were fearless in defence creating many turnovers all day long. Aiming for 4 wins this week! Go Crib!

Last week we travelled to the pointy end of the Peninsula in what turned out to be a cracking day for netball. C Grade starting things off & the atmosphere was electric with Jaye celebrating her 100th match. Jaye is an outstanding club woman who has put in an enormous amount of work on & off the court to keep our club organised. Today we recognise Jaye’s great achievement with a banner on our home courts. The girls lifted for the occasion with Jayde in particular creating turn overs and working hard through the mid-court. Dana got some great intercepts from WA & fed the ball to Hannah well. B Grade continue to work on combinations in attack & defence & were able to trial almost all options against the

Round 6 against Somerville was a tough one, with only one win out of four. Our D grade team had a good game winning by 8 goals. It was great to see our younger girls putting some of the skills they have learnt at training to good use. Tamara and Jasmyn combined well in goals and Miranda was best on court. C grade were competitive for the first quarter, but struggled against a physical Somerville side. Melinda and Sam tried hard in defence, but we went down by 20 goals. Sam was best on court. B Grade was a tough one, where we were no match for the strong Somerville unit. Shannon played well in her first B grade game and Taylah was best on court. The A grade was also a hard one, with Somerville being very strong in all area’s. It was however promising to see another first with Ruby playing in A grade and playing well in goal attack. Sienna was best on court. We have five games today, so another early start and late finish can be expected. If we all work together and as a team the positive results will come. D- after having a week off the girls were feeling fresh and ready to go. The first half was very even and the girls were playing well, we came out in the 2nd half with the intensity and pressure going up to the next level. Liv cook stepped up and played GS and showed great leadership on the court and had a great game. Kitty, Evie and Mariah had a strong game in defence and moved the ball down the court beautifully. The girls played a great game and came away with the win! C- the girls came out strong after the week off, we had a great start and were very consistent throughout the game. Again Annie and Abbie were very strong in goals, Saarsha had a ripper game in the centre court. She fed beautifully into the goalers and was taking intercepts in the defence end. Liv and Rhiannon played a great game and lead strong out of the defence moved the ball down the court beautifully. The girls were focused all game and never dropped their intensity and came away with a great win! B grade had a tough game with Hastings jumping to the lead from the start . With a few new players settling into the team it took a half to get our game together . Second half saw our team settle but too little to late with a strong Hastings team coming home with the points this time.

Frankston Bombshells

When El Presidente announced there’d be half priced cruisers if all teams got up, we thought, Yes! However we remembered it is Crib Point and they’re reigning premiers since 1871...So thanks anyway Batty, maybe next home game. Dominating D grade got us off to a ripper start winning their game comfortably. Cell clearly went to spec savers as she pulled off intercept after intercept. Commentators curse, but you couldn’t see us losing many games the way these legends are playing. Must be that coach! Topsy turvy C grade was a game of four quarters with momentum swinging from team to team. The third quarter aka the premiership quarter was all ours and we were up and about with Blair covering more court than any returning mother should. However our fourth was as silent as the P in pterodactyl and we let Cribby run away with it. B grade seemed composed, despite team changes and awesome work Tay for running centre. If we’re lucky she might squeeze in enough games to qualify for finals in between festivals and overseas trips! Full court defensive pressure got us over the line, but the coach won’t be happy with the final few minutes where laziness and lack of concentration was compelling. Unfortunately in A grade the score probably did reflect the game as we were shown a masterclass of netball by Crib Point despite them missing their VNL players. Cribby started quickly and strongly and we went down like a fat kid on a see saw. But we’ll keep persisting like unwanted adult acne.

The day started off well with D grade having their best game of the season so far. The hard work the girls and their coach Taylah Strange are putting in is really starting to show on the court. Sheryl Mock in the goal shooter position has been a great move. The girls faded away in the second half after being level at half time to lose by 14, but plenty of positives coming from the match. C grade as always work tirelessly but the rewards are not coming. The girls need to stay committed to training and stick together. The goaling combination of Jaimi Gay and Grace Williams is starting to come together, and showed with teams highest score for the season. B grade are getting stronger and stronger with each match as they get to know each other more, the team work is starting to shine. The girls are working hard for each other, always sticking together and supporting each other. Emma Smith is highlight in the goal shooter position shooting 38 goals for the match. The centre court positions are getting the feeds into her with more accuracy and consistency and finishing off the hard work from defenders. Great hard fought match with B grade winning by 9 goals. Rosebud this week at home will be another great challenge for all grades.

Netball Notes

Bendigo Community Bank Dromana Tigers

Saturday was a big day out for the netball club, seeing all 5 teams play together for the first time this season. A fairly successful day with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. U/17s - An undefeated Pearcedale came out strong but were unable to match our teams intensity in the first quarter, with the girls going to the break with a 5 goal lead. It was a competitive next 3 quarters, however the team kept their composure and won 37-32. A great job all round with Shaye Fitzpatrick and Rivvy Walter our best for the game. D grade - It was a great effort by the girls, but unfortunately we were unable to match the skill level of a strong Pearcedale side. We scored fairly consistently through the four quarters but had too many costly turnovers. Final score 26-42 with best Hayley Joyce and Tiarna Foster. C Grade - A tough day out against a very slick Pearcedale team. We struggled to match their intensity which saw Pearcedale go into the second half with a significant lead. There were some good passages of play in the second half, and some points to work on for training. Award winners were Mel Ashton and Kiandra Ball. B Grade - Our girls came out firing which saw them take the first quarter 13-3. Ball movement out of defence and through the midcourt was really strong, with the combination on Eliza Pittard and Maggie Alford dominating in the defensive ring. Final score 49-37 with Maggie Alford and Channelle Jenkins in our best.

A Grade- A Grade was a hotly contested game with the lead no more than 2 goals at any break. It all came down to the last quarter where some very accurate shooting by Pearcedales attack got them ahead by 1. Sophie Driscoll hit a shot at the very end of the game which saw us draw the match. Award winners were Laura Hopkins and Clorinda Siemienowicz. Next week we look forward to taking on The best in the comp at Crib Point.
