THE APOSTOLIC FAITH MISSION OF SA DIE APOSTOLIESE GELOOFSENDING VAN SA
Newsash | 12 May 2017 Dear Colleagues, There are two serious issues I would like to bring to you today. Both require prayer and intercession. COLIGNY SITUATION AND THE SERVICE DELIVERY PROTESTS COLIGNY SITUATION The leadership of the AFM of SA views the current situation in Coligny as a matter of serious and grave concern. In this regard, the AFM sends its condolences to the parents and the entire Mosweu family for their tragic loss of their son, Matlhomola Mosweu. Our prayer is that God will soften your pain and strengthen you in dealing with your bereavement. Our hearts go out to all who have suffered damages to and loss of their business or private properties. Our prayer is that somehow you will be able to rebuild these properties. We call upon all residents of Coligny to exercise maximum restraint in their reactions to the pending case on the death of the 16 years old Matlhomola Mosweu. While we understand your outrage on what has happened, it is of paramount importance that we all do everything in our power to restore law and order in Coligny. Vandalization and destruction of business and private properties must cease. We are informed that the Court’s decision to grant bail to the accused on the death of Matlhomola is being taken on review. In this regard let us allow the legal process to take its course. We urge that all endeavours towards reconciliation, healing and renewal in the town be pursued. SERVICE DELIVERY PROTESTS We are alarmed by the service delivery protests in many of our communities. It is our view that these protests are sparked by unfulfilled promises and lack of basic service delivery. Our politicians should desist from making promises that they are not able to fulfil. It is totally unacceptable that 23 years into democracy, many of our communities are yet to realize promises that were made. Local Governments should prioritize provision of residences and basic needs of communities in their planning. Communities should receive regular communication from Local Governments on when these needs be provided. While we accept the right for communities to express their dissatisfactions on unfulfilled promises, we urge all and sundry to do so peacefully. Destruction of properties and attacks on fellow human beings is totally unacceptable and condemned.
We call on our pastors and members to bring these issues before our God the Almighty, through continuous prayer. The above Press Release is available from the AFM website: http://www.afm-ags.org/media CHRISTIANITY IN SA PUBLIC SCHOOLS You are probably aware of the upcoming application to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg from 15-17 May, by the Organisation for Religious Education and Democracy (OGOD). This organisation is seeking to prevent six public schools from promoting themselves as exclusively being “Christian” with a distinct “Christian ethos”. According to OGOD Christian practices in these six schools are regarded as unconstitutional and therefore unlawful. Some of these activities include praying before sport matches, singing school anthems that refer to God and teaching creationism. If this case succeeds it could lead to the elimination of all religious practices in close to 24,000 public schools in South Africa. Every local community in our country will be affected. (For more detail on the issue, the following article provides the accurate facts: https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2014-09-03-religion-in-schools-watershed-case-to-e nsure-teaching-and-not-preaching/#.WRQH4-WGPIU) I would like to ask you to urgently pray for this matter in your Sunday services. Pray that God will be glorified in this process. Pray for the legal team that will be representing the schools. Pray for our education sector including the children, teachers, principles, governing bodies and parents 1. AFM NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2017 The NOB hereby invite you to the 2017 AFM National Conference!
