OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN NONFICTION PROGRAMMING BY A NETWORK OR STREAMING PLATFORM

Welcome It’s such a pleasure to welcome all of you – nominees, presenters and guests from across the unscripted content industry – to tonight’s Critics Choice Real TV Awards. After two years of virtual awards, we’re thrilled to come together in person again to celebrate the excellence, innovation, diversity, and exceptional storytelling that are so prevalent in nonfiction content. Through the unprecedented ingenuity and creativity of the entire unscripted community, including everyone here tonight, quality nonfiction entertainment was safely produced and delivered to audiences throughout the pandemic. So now more than ever, there’s a lot to celebrate. On behalf of NPACT’s member companies, I’d like to thank our partners at the Critics Choice Association for their tireless commitment to making this evening’s celebration of our industry a reality. Congratulations and good luck to all!

Michelle Van Kempen General Manager NPACT

A Message from the Branch President Welcome to the fourth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards. After two years in lockdown we’re thrilled to be celebrating the best of reality, nonfiction and unscripted programming in person with all of you. Though we couldn’t assemble in person during the last two years, that didn’t stop us from honoring the best and brightest of reality television. I encourage you to visit CriticsChoice.com and browse the recorded acceptance speeches by the many deserving recipients of our Critics Choice Real TV Awards in 2020 and 2021. The last two years have been particularly challenging for all forms of television production, which came to a full stop for several months in 2020 and experienced several stops and starts throughout 2021 as it fully returned to life. Unscripted productions proved a bit easier to execute during that time, even with the new Covid protocols the industry has had to implement. And so it is that in 2022 there are more reality programs on broadcast and cable networks and streaming services than ever before. Hats off to the unscripted productions that have safely and effectively innovated and adapted to the new challenges the industry was forced to confront. They collectively sent a signal that television, and reality television in particular, would continue to entertain and enlighten an eager audience. Tonight, we are pleased to recognize excellence in many unscripted categories. In order to select the best, we assembled five nomination committees comprised of television critics and journalists from all over the country, each of them tasked with identifying the most deserving nominees in multiple categories. The entire TV Branch of the CCA then voted to select the winners. As always, I thank them for their hard work and unwavering dedication. And I thank all of you for your ongoing support. Thanks also to the many people who made tonight’s event possible, starting with our talented hosts Randy and Jason Sklar and all of our presenters. Thanks also to the many people who made tonight’s event possible. This starts with our fabulous hosts, the very funny Randy and Jason Sklar, and all our great Presenters. Executive Producers Joey Berlin and Bob Bain have put the show together with a dedicated team including Robin Reinhardt, Benn Fleishman, Jeremy Tominberg, Rich Preuss, Philip D’Amour, Matthew Gossin, Gerry Escalante, Katie Carlin, Nicole Gautier, Becky Whale, Sharon Moscoso, Paul Flattery, Jim Wise, Dera Freund, John De Simio, David Freedman, Ken Rose, Josh Orenstein, Gary Mezzatesta, Andy Gelb and Julia Rossen of Slate PR, Leslie Oren of Babygrande PR, Lisa Waters, Natasha Gargiulo and Dan Black. Our partners at NPACT, led by Michelle Van Kempen, have been a joy to work with on this show, as usual. Enjoy the show!
