The Afrikan Post family would like to express its deepest sympathy to the people of Ghana and the family of President J.E. Atta Mills, whose sudden death shocked the nation of Ghana and people around the world. Here at the Afrikan Post, we tried our best to cover every story related to former President J.E. Atta Mills, whether he was in Ghana or here in the United States. Most recently, we covered his March 2012 visit to Washington D.C, when we were granted special access to cover his visit with President Barack Obama in the White House. During that same trip, he visited the Ghana Embassy in Washington D.C, where he answered questions from the audience and enlightened the heart of a 5th grade girl by allowing her to come onto the stage to meet him. President Atta Mills, as the president of the great country of Ghana, was a man who always got the attention of the Afrikan Post—and sometimes publications were temporarily halted in order to accommodate his visits and ensure that we could get the story in the paper, in order to share his events with our legions of readers. July 24th, 2012 was truly a sad day for the Afrikan Post. This issue of the Afrikan Post is being dedicated to the late President J.E. Atta Mills, for his service to the country of Ghana. Please take the time to read this issue and share with us any of your comments and memories of the late J.E. Atta Mills. Thank you. Sincerely,
Afrikan Post Family

LEADERS MOURN PRESIDENT EVANS ATTA MILLS Akufo-Addo Mourns The Death Statement by President Obama Of President Mills on the Death of President John Evans Atta Mills of Ghana
5
Whilst on a campaign tour of the Evalue Gwira constituency in the Western Region this afternoon, I heard the sad news of the death of the President of the Republic, H E Prof John Evans Atta Mills.
I have decided to suspend immediately the rest of my campaign tour until further notice.
I express my condolences to the First Lady, Madam Naadu Mills and the rest of the family.
Office of The Press Secretary The White House July 24, 2012
It was with great regret that I learned of the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills of Ghana. I will always remember my trip to Ghana in 2009, and the hospitality that President Mills and the people of Ghana showed to me, Michelle, Malia, Sasha and our entire delegation. I was also pleased to host President Mills in the Oval Office earlier this year. President Mills tirelessly worked to improve the lives of the Ghanaian people. He helped promote economic growth in Ghana in the midst of challenging global circumstances and strengthened Ghana’s strong tradition of democracy. Under his leadership, the United States and Ghana deepened our partnership in the promotion of good governance and economic development. He was also a strong advocate for human rights and for the fair treatment of all Ghanaians. On behalf of the American people, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the people of Ghana, and reaffirm the deep and enduring bonds between our democracies that President Mills helped to strengthen.

Mills Death: NDC, NPP In Battle Over Textile Prints
Even though traders have been among the large groups of Ghanaians wailing and mourning President Mills since his death was announced last week Tuesday, the mourning has also not stopped them from making money from his death.
Traders of African print textiles in Accra admitted that sales have been good since the president's death. They attributed the situation to the tagging of some print designs to political parties.
One trader, Christiana Dansoaa, said the ‘se asa’ (It is finished!) cloth has been patronized massively and is currently in short supply at the Makola market. She said the cloth which used to be sold at GHC15 is now selling not less than GHC 36.
Another trader Serwaa Agyeman said she brought 600 yards of the cloth just this week and was able to sell it within a few days.
Some government officials like the Director of Communications Koku Anhyidoho was seen in a sorrowful mood wearing the cloth.
Asked why that textile print ‘se asa’ was chosen by the NDC for the funeral, the National Women Organizer Anita Desooso responded by saying, “It is finished.”
She said those who consistently attacked the person of President Mills cannot do it again because he is gone and will never return. She attacked the NPP of hounding the president to his death; therefore the name of the cloth is a message to them.
However, in a quick rebuttal, a member of the NPP communication team, Adomako Berfi disclosed that the NPP has equally chosen a textile cloth named ‘Aboa bo beka woa, na efri wo ntoma mu’, to wit, the enemy is within; adding that the answer to the insinuation by the NDC lies in their own party.
He asked them to do an introspection to identify those behind the presidents’ death and stop accusing them wrongly.
Serwaa Agyeman confirmed speculations the NPP was going to use the ATL design, ‘Aboa bi beka woa, efri wo ntoma mu’, to mourn the late president.
According to her, though it’s been off the market for a while, they are making arrangements to increase supply. Source: Ghanaweb.com

Madagascar: Presidential Elections Set For May 8, 2013
The president of the CENIT said the second round of presidential elections in Madagascar will be held with the legislatives on July 3, 2013.
Beatrice announced that the mayors of urban and rural municipalities will be elected simultaneously with municipal councilors on Oct. 23, 2013.
Beatrice said that these dates were decided after a workshop that the CENIT held with international electoral experts since Monday. She called politicians and all political actors to respect the laws in elections.
She said the CENIT will meet with donors to present the budget and necessary resources for election.
She called donors to lift all financial sanctions
they took in 2009 because of political crisis in Madagascar.
Madagascar has been in political crisis since December 2008 following a stalemate between former President Marc Ravalomanana and the transitional president Andry Rajoelina.
Rajoelina, mayor of Antananarivo from December 2007 to March 2009 led a massive protest against Ravalomanana from 2002 to March 2009.
Ravalomanana gave up his power to a military directorate on March 17, 2009, but few hours later, the military transferred the presidency to Rajoelina. Rajoelina officially took power on March 21, 2009, while Ravalomanana fled out in exile in South Africa few days later. Source: Allafrica.com

Simple Exercises To Promote Healthy Neck Muscles And Ligaments NEWS
If you experience intermittent neck pain and/or stiffness, you may benefit from a simple routine of stretching and strengthening the dozens of skeletal muscles and ligaments that line your neck.
WHEN IT comes to alcohol and blood pressure, too much alcohol is not a good thing. Experts recommend that men limit their alcohol intake to two drinks each day and to one drink each day.
It does not take much alcohol to interfere with your blood pressure, so it is critical that you know the facts, especially if you have high blood pressure already, or are at risk for it.

3. Rotation to Right With your shoulders facing forward, turn your head to your right.
What follows are six simple stretches that you can perform to help keep the muscles and ligaments in your neck healthy and less prone to getting injured.
Once you feel a stretch or pull anywhere in your neck or once the joints of your neck won't allow you to rotate any further, whichever comes first, hold this position for as long as is comfortable, up to 30 seconds.
Allow your head to fall forward so that your chin approaches the top of your chest.
Repeat the same steps described above, but with your head turning to your left.

Reducing Salt 'Would Cut Cancer'
Cutting back on salty foods such as bacon, bread and breakfast cereals may reduce people's risk of developing stomach cancer, according to the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF).
It wants people to eat less salt and for the content of food to be labelled more clearly. In the UK, the WCRF said one-in-seven stomach cancers would be prevented if people kept to daily guidelines.
Cancer Research UK said this figure could be even higher. Too much salt is bad for blood pressure and can lead to heart disease and stroke, but it can also cause cancer.
The recommended daily limit is 6g, about a level teaspoonful, but the World Cancer Research Fund said people were eating 8.6g a day. Source: BBC

further lateral flexion, hold this position for as long as is comfortable, up to 30 seconds. Be sure that your left and right shoulders remain level; for some people, there's a natural tendency to bring the right or left shoulders up while doing this stretch.
6. Lateral Flexion to Left
Repeat the same steps described above, but with your head falling toward your left shoulder. Remember to keep both shoulders level; it's your head that should bend down to approach your shoulder, not your shoulder that's raised to approach your head.
To strengthen your neck muscles, use your hands to resist your head as you try to move it in the six directions described above.
For example, to strengthen the muscles that line the front of your neck, place both of your palms against your forehead and gently push your head against your palms, trying to take your chin down to meet your chest. Maintain this resistance for as long as is comfortable, or up to 10 seconds. Repeat for all directions. Source: Dr. Ben Kim
Less Time Sitting 'Extends Life'
Limiting the time we spend sitting to just three hours a day could add an extra two years to our life expectancy, scientists calculate.
Similarly, if we cut daily TV viewing down to two hours we could add on 1.4 years, they say in a report for the online journal BMJ Open.
But experts say the US estimates, which are based on five separate population studies, are too unreliable to predict personal risk. Plus the targets are unfeasible.
Prof David Spiegelhalter, an expert in risk calculations at the University of Cambridge, said: "This is a study of populations, and does not tell you personally what the effect of getting off the sofa might be.
"It seems plausible that if future generations moved around a bit more, then they might live longer on average.
"But very few of us currently spend less than three hours sitting each day, and so this seems a very optimistic target." Source: BBC

UN Officials Welcome 'Historic' Approval of New Constitution for Somalia
The overwhelming approval of a Provisional Constitution for Somalia by the representative body convened for that purpose - a key step toward ending the Horn of Africa country's long transition to stable governance was hailed today by United Nations officials.
"The Secretary-General welcomes the adoption," a spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters at UN Headquarters in New York today. "He congratulates the delegates and the Somali leadership for this historic achievement and their commitment to ending the transition and to establishing new, representative political institutions in the country."
despite suicide attacks on the NCA's meeting venue earlier this morning, which resulted in the deaths of several people. According to media reports, two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the gates of the venue, and the attempt follows a series of explosions in the capital, including roadside bombs and grenade attacks.
Mr. Mahiga noted that the Somali delegates "were not deterred" by the suicide bombings, which was foiled by security personnel consisting of Somali forces and the UN-backed African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). "I pay tribute to the Somali and AMISOM security personnel who ensured the safety of the delegates and the process," he said. In his remarks to reporters, Mr. Ban's "Today is a day of celebration," the spokesperson said the UN chief conSecretary-General's Special demned the suicide attacks, noting that Representative and head of the UN "terrorism must not be allowed to roll Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), back the important gains that have been Augustine Mahiga, said in a statement. made so far."
"The adoption of the Provisional Constitution is an historic achievement as it completes one of the most important milestones towards ending the current transitional period and ushering in a new political future," he added.
After decades of warfare, Somalia has been undergoing a peace and national reconciliation process, with the country's Transitional Federal Institutions currently implementing the so-called Roadmap for the End of Transition in Somalia, devised in September last year, that spells out priority measures to be carried out before the current transitional governing arrangements end in 20 days' time. The Provisional Constitution was a key part of the process - it will provide a legal framework governing the workings of the new Somali Federal Institutions after 20 August.
According to UNPOS, jubilant applause broke out at the National Constituent Assembly's (NCA) meeting in the capital, Mogadishu, today, when the text for the document was approved by 621 delegates, with 13 votes against and 11 abstentions. The NCA, made up in total of 825 delegates drawn from all Somali clans, had spent the past eight days of deliberations.
"The Constituent Assembly embodied the diversity of Somali society around the traditional clan system, and ensured inclusiveness by bringing together elders, religious leaders, women, youth, business people, intellectuals and the Diaspora," Mr. Mahiga said. The voting took place
Until last year, most of Mogadishu, was, for several years, riven by a fluid frontline dividing the two sides - fighters belonging to the Al Shabaab militant group and troops belonging to the Somalia Government, with the latter supported by AMISOM.
Since the Al Shabaab withdrawal from the capital in August last year, the frontlines have been pushed back to the city's surrounding area. However, the use of roadside bombs, grenades and suicide bombers still take place. In addition, Government forces have been on an offensive against the Al Shabaab, which still controls parts of Somalia, primarily in its south-central regions. While praising the Somali delegates for the vote today, both the Secretary-General and his envoy to Somalia emphasized that adoption of the Provisional Constitution is not the end of the process.
"It is an important step towards the creation of a better future for all Somalis," Mr. Ban's spokesperson said. "The Secretary-General encourages all stakeholders to undertake the last steps to end the transition peacefully, united, and with the best interest of the Somali people in mind."
"The constitution must now be implemented to become a living reality," Mr. Mahiga said. "For that to happen, the final steps to ending the transition must be taken including selecting a representative Parliament, and electing a Speaker, the President, and appointing an executive government."

THE CEO OF THE GHANA BAMBOO BIKES INITIATIVE BERNICE DAPAAH RECEIVED THE AWARD ON BEHALF OF THE ORGANISATION
Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative was announced as one of eleven winners today at the 2012 World Business and Development Awards (WBDA) for our efforts to improve living standards in some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities. Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative was recognized at a ceremony concluding the Business Action for Sustainable Development Business Day taking place during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), where world leaders along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, convened. The Awards recognize innovative business models that deliver both commercial success and help improve social, economic or environmental conditions—otherwise known as inclusive business models. The Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative takes advantage of the abundant bamboo found in Ghana to design, develop, and market bamboo bikes and frames and related products and services. The initiative also offers basic course and practical lessons on building bamboo bikes and frames as a way of encouraging entrepreneurship and providing sustainable livelihood job skills.
A panel composed of nine independent judges selected winning initiatives, under the categories of small- and medium-sized enterprise and large organizations. The 2012 Awards attracted 115 applications from 38 countries showcasing a variety of inclusive business endeavours undertaken by associations, non-governmental organizations and individual companies.
“I am truly honoured and inspired to receive this award” said Bernice Dapaah CEO of Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative. “Sustainable and innovative social enterprises are measured beyond what they deliver to the bottom line-they are also measured by the impact they have on their communities. We are not resting on our oars as there is a lot of work to be done to move to the next level of growth.” Celebrating a decade of biennial award giving, the World Business and Development Awards 2012 are organized by the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Netherlands Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the UN Global Compact and sponsored by Cemex.
The Awards demonstrate how companies can, through their core business activities, help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—eight internationally agreed targets to reduce poverty and environmental degradation and improve education, health conditions and gender equality by 2015. “When businesses apply the full force of their core business activities to development challenges and measure their success both by profit and social outcomes, there is no limit to what can be accomplished. The World Business and Development Award winners showcase what businesses of all sizes and in all regions can do to accelerate progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals,” said Clare
Melford, CEO, International Business Leaders Forum. “Past Award winners have shown how companies can help boost sustainable growth and development. They can be a tremendous source of innovative and sustainable solutions which help transform people’s lives for the better,” said Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator The 2012 Awards have been awarded explicitly to companies delivering inclusive business models: sustainable, commercially-viable business initiatives that expand access for lowincome people to goods and services, or improve their livelihoods by engagement in the business process as direct employees, suppliers or distributors, while also generating sales and profit growth. “As progress towards the Millennium Development Goals comes under threat in the current economic climate, the Awards highlight the critical role of the private sector in stimulating sustainable economic growth and development,” said Jean-Guy Carrier, Secretary General, International Chamber of Commerce. Ghana Questions 2 Peace Corps Members On Killing
ACCRA, Ghana - A U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana stabbed an alleged robber, who subsequently died, police said July 16, 2012.
Two U.S. Peace Corps volunteers, who said they were robbed and used a knife in self-defence, were questioned by police and later released, regional police commander Kofi Addae Akyampong said. The volunteers told police they were attacked late Friday night about 100 metres (330 feet) from their home in the northwestern town of Wa, he said.
"They said two men attacked them. During the struggle (one of the volunteers) used a knife to defend himself, then the attackers ran away," Akyampong said. He said the man who was stabbed subsequently died, and his body was found in Wa early Saturday morning.
Vincent Dedjoe, deputy director of criminal investigations for the Ghana Police, said the two Americans

The Presidential Candidate of Ghana’s Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom yesterday launched the Washington, DC Metro Chapter of his party during a town hall and book signing event held outside Washington, DC in Arlington, Virginia. The forum was attended by party members and friends. Addressing the attendees, Dr. Nduom presented his party’s agenda and pitched it as the better alternative to both the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the lead opposition party, New Patriotic Party (NPP). After the event Dr. Nduom signed and presented copies of his new book, “Where I Stand: A collection of Speeches and Newspaper Articles” to the attendees.

The relations that individuals have in either country must end up opening doors for individuals and communities both in America and Ghana, like it did for me personally when I first came to the United States on an American Field Service (AFS) year-long scholarship in the 70’s, prior to my secondary school education in Ghana.”
Papa Kwesi Nduom was born in Elmina, Central Region of Ghana. He attended St. Augustine’s College (secondary school) in Ghana and returned to the United States for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics (1975), a Master’s degree in Management (1977) and a Ph.D (Service Delivery Systems) in 1982, all from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1979, he joined the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District as a Budget and Management Analyst and then joined Deloitte and Touche as an associate consultant in 1981, rising to become a partner in the Milwaukee office of the firm by 1986 before being transferred to Washington, DC. Nduom eventually returned to Ghana via a consulting assignment with the Ashanti Gold Company. In 1992, he helped establish Deloitte & Touche, Ghana and consequently in West Africa and retired as the board chairman for the Africa region.

Mali: UN Calls for Immediate Action to Avert Humanitarian Disaster July 2012
The United Nations July 26, 2012 called for immediate action to tackle Mali's current humanitarian crisis which is driven by food insecurity, malnutrition, population displacement and widespread insecurity.
"The humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly because of the inadequacy of the response. The situation in Mali is desperate, but not hopeless," stressed the Director of Operations of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), John Ging.
"There needs to be a paradigm shift in the way the humanitarian response is funded. We can avoid a disaster, but only if the opportunities for a quick scaling up of the response are not missed," he added.
In January, fighting between Government forces and Tuareg rebels resumed in northern Mali. The instability and insecurity resulting from the renewed clashes, as well as the proliferation of armed groups in the region, and political instability in the wake of a coup d'état in March, have uprooted more than 420,000 people, according to OCHA, with many fleeing to the neighbouring countries of Niger, Mauritania and Burkina Faso due to insecurity
These countries, however, are among the most severely affected by the food and nutrition crisis raging across the Sahel region of West Africa, which has put 18 million lives at risk.
During a three-day mission to Mali, Mr. Ging visited displacement camps in Mopti in the north, where he heard first-hand the traumatic stories of violence against women and children who had fled their homes.
In Bamako, the capital, Mr. Ging told reporters that "there appears to be a misconception that without a solution to the security and political crisis in the north of the country, little can be done to scale up the humanitarian response. In fact, 80 per cent of the country's humanitarian needs are in the south, where there is relative stability."
Page
18
While work is being carried out by national and international organizations in the northern part of the country, Mr. Ging said the lack of funding is hampering the scaling up of activities in the region. Currently, only 42 per cent of the $214 million required for the humanitarian response has been received.
Health, education, water, sanitation and hygiene are the most critically underfunded sectors, Mr. Ging said, adding that this could quickly lead to the outbreak of epidemics like cholera, which is threatening to spread throughout West Africa. Source: Allafrica.com

Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah
y father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions" (1 Kings 12:14). The preceding words were spoken by Rehoboam, son of Solomon, when he ascended the throne after the death of his father. Rehoboam spoke these words to the children of Israel when they asked him to lessen their tax burden. His father’s seasoned and god-fearing advisors counseled him regarding his response, but Rehoboam ignored their advice and foolishly took that of his young peers. Consequently, Rehoboam was overthrown by force, losing a considerable portion of his kingdom. He lost 10 of the 12 tribes, ruling only over the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Further down the road in history, King Zedekiah, ruler of Judah, needed to hear from the prophets about what God had in store for his kingdom. There was one prophet whose prophecies were not to his liking, while there were other prophets who told him what he preferred to hear. Enter the prophet Hananiah. Hananiah prophesied to the king and to the hearing of Jeremiah and all the priests and people that within two years, God was going to defeat the king of Babylon on behalf of Zedekiah. But God, knowing that He had not spoken through this false prophet, sent His true prophet Jeremiah to Hananiah saying, “Listen now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. This year you are going to die, because you have counseled rebellion against the LORD.’” So Hananiah the prophet died in the same year in the seventh month (Jeremiah 28:15-17). Like Rehoboam, we stand to lose what we cannot afford when we do not take the right counsel. There is a right counsel and there is an erroneous one. The right one will obviously fare you well, while the wrong one—well— could cost you too much, such as your wealth, health, family, success and rightful future. The Kingdom of Israel was

divided as a result of one man’s pursuit of the wrong counsel. And in the case of Hananiah, one who falsely claims to hear from and speak for God—well—God dealt with him in the way that only God could. Not only did He take away Hananiah’s voice, but He also took his life. The truth, the power and the purity of God’s counsel is just that and one must not assume to possess it falsely. We ought to be wise not to become like Rehoboam and at the same time, we have to be careful not to fall for the likes of Hananiah. So the question is: who counsels you? While we are all individuals with our own minds and will, we are highly susceptible to the influential words of others, particularly those whom we trust, respect and admire, people to whom we are partial. When we need direction in an area of our lives, we often automatically consult with these people, hoping to receive wise and reasonable words that will direct us on our path. And while we might receive those words, we have to be careful to ponder whether or not we went about seeking such advice the right way and from the right place. Many of us are familiar with the following declaration about the birth of Christ in Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” We recount these words around Christmas time in celebration and affirmation of Christ’s birth, but the fact is that while we do acknowledge Christ as being wonderful, a mighty God, an everlasting father and the Prince of Peace, we do not seriously consider Him as the Counselor that He is. Rather, we tend to forget about that role and attribute. I believe that most of us don’t habitually and instantly seek God’s counsel in our life’s decisions. Take a moment and honestly ask yourself if you always seek His counsel first when you need advice or direction or do you habitually and perhaps naturally consider a parent, sibling, friend or mentor? I am not suggesting that seeking advice from others is wrong, but what I am suggesting is that we should always seek His counsel first in any and everything. He is not only our savior, but also, He is our counselor and as such, part of His role is to guide us towards the right path, so that we will arrive at the place that He has planned for us and accomplish the goals that He knows we can accomplish. For after all, it is this same God who states in Jeremiah 29:11-13 that, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come
and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”. Clearly, what God has planned for us and what He is able to do for us cannot be surpassed by any other intention. Thus, it is only wise to perceive and seek Him as our counselor. Seeking God’s counsel occurs in two main ways, first, going to Him in prayer about a particular issue on which we need to make a decision. Here, we pray to Him to direct our path, to tell us what to do. Is that man/woman I want to marry the right one for me? Will he/she be able to endure the tough times that will come our way? Will I be able to love him/her unconditionally and continue to sacrifice for him/her? Is the love I feel for this person the true love required to weather the storms of sicknesses and financial hardships? Will I be able to blend in well with his/her family and forge a united and happy extended family? It is God who we have to go to in order to get the most honest and spiritually insightful answers. Your parents or friends might do their best to counsel you when you approach them with these concerns and questions, but it is Christ, seeing and knowing all and particularly knowing what the future holds, who can properly counsel you in such instances. Once, a parent told his daughter who wanted to marry a particular young man that marriage is about luck and he could not tell her whether or not to marry the young man. For this parent, who had already divorced three times, he had not been lucky at love or marriage. One might think a parent would have better advice for his offspring, but this is what this one parent offered to his daughter. Now is that the kind of counsel you need? But it is the kind you might get if you do not seek guidance from the omniscient Father of Heaven and Earth Himself, the very one who established marriage. Good counsel from God can be gotten also from reading His word. When we read the Bible, we are taught lessons such as the story of “The Prodigal Son,” lessons about how we should not have the love of money, how we should obey and honor our parents and not provoke our children. We are taught that we should be committed to the things of God and store our treasure in Heaven and not on Earth. We are taught to pay our tithes and offering and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We are taught not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers and to refrain from ungodly speech. The word of God counsels us and guides us daily. Do we accept this counsel or do we rather listen and adhere to the fashions and current cultural dictates of a demoralizing world? It is our decision to make. It is up to us to determine who will be our counselor. Additionally, seeking counsel from God includes listening to the words and

direction of your pastor. A truly called pastor is God’s appointed servant of a church and he bears both the right and responsibility to teach and guide you in the things of the Lord. He is the shepherd while you are the sheep. As a church member, you are not only to seek his counsel, but also, you are to submit yourself to his leadership and instruction as directed by the word of God. However, more and more, it appears Christians seek the teachings and guidance of leaders from other ministries or independent prophets and preachers instead of their own and then run the risk of embracing, repeating and practicing faulty doctrine and advice. So you invite the counsel of Hananiah and what’s worse, you do not only keep this erroneous counsel to yourself to ruin not only your life, but bring it to your congregation and there spread such thoughts, causing confusion and threatening the stability of a ministry. All in all, the point is that if you do not desire and respect the counsel of your own pastor, then it is time for you to move on to another church where you can easily submit to the leadership. Spiritually, it is the sound thing to do so that you will not be found wanting in a church and under leadership in which you no longer have confidence. But you must be careful to be certain that you are making the right decision, only after seeking counsel from the Lord Himself. When all is said and done, it remains that on a daily basis, you will require guidance and direction for your personal life, your family, your career and so on. Where do you begin and where do you end? What will you decide and to whose counsel will you submit? Before you decide, remember the Lord is not only your savior but also your Counselor and best of all, He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11.

For several days, the Electoral Commission of Ghana did not call the result to the NDC, and the NPP filed a lawsuit, claiming that "the atmosphere in the rural district was not conducive to a free and fair election". Eventually, the NPP bowed to the inevitable, and on the morning of 3 January 2009, the election result was finally announced. Former Vice-President John Atta-Mills, who had failed to win in two previous campaigns, made history by winning the 2008 presidential election, becoming the third President of the 4th Republic Of Ghana.

In 2008, he was elected president of Ghana, after a keenly contested three round election. He died on 24 July 2012 while still in office.

Kenya: Venezuela Ambassador Found Dead in Runda diplomatic police at Gigiri against Fonseca's predecessor Ambassador Gerardo Carillo Silva. Six workers were fired on Wednesday. Several meetings between the workers' lawyer Ngure Mbugua, Fonseca and officials from the Foreign Affairs ministry ended in a stalemate.
Olga Fonseca
The killer of the Venezuela Embassy Charge d'Affaires, Olga Fonseca, was well known to her, the Star has established.
Last evening police collected a bottle of Johnnie Walker whisky, which the diplomat and the suspected killer or killers could have shared moments before Fonseca was found dead at her residence in Runda.
Sources said Foreign Affairs minister Sam Ongeri had demanded a full briefing from his officers on the happenings at the embassy. On Wednesday, Fonseca disconnected all phones in the embassy except her office line, sources said. "She wanted all calls from outside to go to her first." Fonseca is said to have stayed late in the office on Wednesday to oversee the change of her office door locks. It is not clear if she also changed the locks at her residence.
According to documents in our possession, the new envoy contracted the services of a local law firm, Mucheru-Oyatta & Associates, seeking a legal opinion on whether the embassy can terminate the services of the said staff. In her submission Police also collected sheets and clothes to the lawyers, Fonseca said she had lost from her bedroom where the body was dis- confidence in the staff members whom she covered yesterday morning. When Fonseca had not emerged from her bedroom by 10am, security guards and diplomatic police officers who guard the ambassador's residence went to check on her, they discovered she was dead with a noose around her neck and visible bruises on her wrists. Investigators also noted that her mobile phone was used to send a text message to a staff member at her office informing them she would would not be going to the office yesterday because she was feeling tired.
that Fonseca reported for duty as the new Charge d'Affaires to replace a Mr Dwight on Monday July 16, 2012. A search on the embassy's website indicates that a man by the name Dwight Asdrubal Sagaray C is the embassy's First Secretary. Dwight took charge of the embassy after the recall of Ambassador Gerardo Carillo Silva and was in charge until the arrival of Fonseca.
The document indicates that on Friday July 20, Dwight "came to the residence and caused a confrontation with M/s Fonseca which resulted in Mr. Dwight asking the Investigators suspect the SMS, which was staff members to leave the residence with not delivered to the intended recipient, was him." opinion on whether the embassy can terminate the services of the domestic staff working at the residence based on the Kenya's employment laws and specifically the Employment Act of 2007.
The lawyers in their opinion advised that the embassy since the staff at the embassy residence had stopped performing their duties and were going against the instructions of Fonseca who was placed in authority over them by the Venezuela government, it was justified they be summarily dismissed. The lawyers said the employees were in breach of their employment contracts. "The fact that they are in direct communication with an officer who has been removed from authority by their employer and to whom they have divulged and continue to divulge information of the goings on at the embassy further underpins this position," the law firm stated.
The lawyers noted that the domestic staff could have gotten confused and felt under threat when faced with the agony of deciding whether to follow the orders of Dwight or Fonseca. "This situation was not created by the employees but by a renegade employee of the embassy who had been placed in authority over these domestic staff members," the law firm said. It added that if their disobedience of Fonseca's orders was the only reason for their dismissal, a court could find that the employees have been victimized and did not disobey voluntarily.
"It is crucial therefore that this situation is dealt with having the aforesaid in mind and in these circumstances, it would be prudent not to involve M/s Fonseca in the procedure of investigating the situation and taking action against the employees so that the actions by the embassy as regards the employees is seen to be objective and non-confrontational," the law firm advised. "Needless to say, Mr. Dwight ought to be dealt with severely by the embassy and must himself be dismissed from employment if the domestic staff members are to be dismissed," the firm added.
The Venezuelan chargĂŠ d'affairs' murder could jeopardise Kenya's "good" standing with South American nations. Only early this month, President Kibaki was in Brazil during the Rio+ 20 Climate conference where he held meetings with members of the business community who were exploring the possibility of investing in Kenya.
Her death could also cause international condemnation of Kenya since the foreign diplomats' person and premises are inviolable under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The Convention also protects foreign diplomats from arrest by host country law enforcement authorities, entry into their premises without authority or inspection of their premises, bags and vehicles. Sierra Leone: Radio Station, Journalists Violently Attacked July 2012

John Raka Conteh, a panelist on Radio Gbath, an independent community radio station in Tonkolili district, north of Sierra Leone, attacked the station after refusing orders from the moderator.
Conteh, an aspirant for the position of District Youth Chairman of Yoni Chiefdom, together with two of his supporters, vandalized the station on the night of July 19, 2012 after his behaviour forced the station to suspend an interview he was granting them.
The Media Foundation for West Africa's (MFWA) correspondent reported that the attack resulted in the destruction of equipment including laptop computers, digital recorders and external hard drives.
"Conteh who had been invited to discuss the postponement of the elections persistently refused to answer questions put to him but instead digressed, causing the moderator to put him off air", Hasan Koroma, station manager told the correspondent.
As a result of the moderator's action, Conteh pounced on and manhandled him while his two accomplices forcefully entered the studio with broken bottles and attempted to stab him.
The MFWA calls on the police as well as authorities of Tonkolili District to investigate the incident and ensure that the attackers are brought to book.

Ghana: Jostling for Vice President Begins
Post
July 2012
specific to take up the mantle, but as to whether he would accept it is another question.
Dr. Kwesi Botchway is the longest serving Finance Minister in the history of Ghana. In 2004, he contested President Mills for the NDC flagbearship and lost. Since then, he has not been playing front line role in the party. He is, however, a member of the departed President's economic management team, drawing economic policies for the country.
Less than 24 hours after he had been sworn in as President of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama has held his first Cabinet meeting at the Osu Castle, where a number of issues were discussed yesterday.
Sources at the Castle told The Chronicle that President John Mahama, a Methodist, followed the foot steps of his predecessor, John Mills, by leading the Cabinet members in serious prayers before settling down for serious discussions.
Details of what transpired at the meeting, which was attended by almost all the Cabinet Ministers and some of the party bigwigs are very sketchy, but The Chronicle gathered that among the issues discussed were the appointment of a new Vice President and the sudden death of former President Mills among others, which bothered on the governance of the country.
In the case of the Vice President position, no firm decision has been taken yet, but The Chronicle gathered that the candidate would definitely be coming from Central Region to help sustain the support base of the party in both Central and Western Regions. As a result, jostling for the position has already started. Among the names that have come up are Madam Hanna Tetteh, former Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya, Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Spio Garbrah, former Minister of Communication in the Rawlings' government and Dr. Kwesi Botchway, a former Minister of Finance, also under the Rawlings regime.
Underground information gathered by this reporter also indicated that the candidate nominated by the President for approval of Parliament to become the Vice President would be likely to become the running mate for President Mahama to contest the December elections.
This is the reason why both the President and party leaders are treading cautiously, before the new Vice President is named.
The NDC would soon call an emergency National Delegate Congress in accordance with article 22 of the party's constitution. The said article reads: "The National Executive Committee may call a Special National
Delegates Congress at such notice, place and date. A Special National Delegates Congress shall have the same representation and powers as the National Congress."
There were initial reports that the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who contested former President Mills in the presidential primary held in Sunyani last year, would become automatic presidential candidate of the party.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the National Democratic congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has announced that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party would meet today to decide the mode they would use to elect the new flagbearer for the party.
Speaking on Joy FM last night, 'General Mosquito', as he is popularly called, said the constitution of the party is silent on how they elect a new leader in circumstance such as what has happened constitution of the party. The said article which grants residual powers to NEC reads:, "Where on any Party matter there is no provision in this Constitution which deals with that matter, the National Executive Committee shall, by regulations, provide for that matter to be dealt with." He also quoted the same constitution and argued that whenever a vacuum occurred at the national executive level, NEC would step in to fill the gap.
The late President Mills was a national executive member, But that rumour has been ruled out as therefore, NEC per the constitutional provision, could step there are no provisions in the party's con- in to fill the gap by endorsing in this case, President John stitution that allow the runner-up in the Mahama, as the Presidential Candidate of the party. presidential primary to become the automatic candidate for the elections, in case the elected flagbearer dies, as it has hap- Alternatively the party can also call an emergency congress as dictated by Article 22 to endorse a presidential candipened now. date. The method to be adopted by the party would, however, be known by the close of work of today. Connoisseurs, however, believe that the possible candidate born to a Hungarian mother and Ghanaian father does not have any strong foothold in the Central Region to rake in the necessary votes for the party in the December elections.

As part of the on-going consultations to build a national consensus on the funeral and burial arrangements for our late President, His Excellency Prof John Evans Atta Mills, the Funeral
Planning Committee (FPC) on Wednesday visited and held discussions with the leadership of Parliament, the National Chief Imam, the Chief Justice and the Council of State.
A statement issued by Deputy Minister of Information James Agyanim Boateng said the FPC briefed them on the proposed funeral arrangements and used the discussions to seek their opinions on an appropriate resting place for President Atta Mills.
After a series of consultations, the proposed burial sites have been narrowed down to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and a location within the old Flagstaff House.
A formal announcement of the entire programme is expected to be issued later.

Zimbabwe: Poison Delivered for Water Treatment July 2012
A Nigerian religious leader, Prophet T. B Joshua, has predicted that the death of President John Evans Atta Mills will bring about unexplained unity among the political class and the rest of Ghanaians.
Making his first public statement about the death of President Mills at a church service in Nigeria Sunday, Prophet Joshua, known for his predictions and prophecies, said there would also be a revolution in governance in Ghana.
The service was monitored on Emmanuel TV carried by the Crystal TV in Accra yesterday and was attended by Mr Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, son of former President Mills, as well as some members of his family.
A minute's silence was observed in memory of President Mills.
The Nigerian prophet was known to have had very close relationship with former President Mills.
He is said to have predicted the election of Professor Mills as President of the Republic of Ghana in 2008.
According to Prophet Joshua, the son of former President Mills had requested to attend church service at the Synagogue Church in Nigeria yesterday to celebrate his father.
Preaching the sermon, Prophet Joshua said, "this is a prophetic word: Our father is a martyr. Those legacies he left behind will prove to you that he is a martyr as time goes on - there will be revolution in governance and unexplained unity among the political class."
Former President Mills, he said, was now at a place because he led a good life and many would wish to be there.
"President Mills was a good man but could not do all the good works for Ghana all alone.
According to Prophet Joshua, before he died, former President Mills knew that he was leaving the world into eternity.
"The departure of our father was as it should be by divine will. It was unchangeable. I saw it
right from the beginning of the journey, and I prayed in closet and in congregation, which I shared with you in a form of prayer, and discussed with him one-on-one, the vision, and that has been a guide that sustained him before his glorious exit.
"Ask people around him, they will tell you that he knew he was going home.
"I used to celebrate his birthday on Emmanuel TV. If you take note, this last birthday was not shown because our father was more of heaven before birthday," he said.
Looking ahead, Prophet Joshua, said "death is not a period - it is only a comma - because of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection."
He referred to former President Mills as his father, and extended his condolences to the former First Lady, Dr Ernestina Naadu Mills, the family and the rest of Ghanaians.
"Here, my heart goes to the wife, son, family and well wishers. Celebrate our father, not mourn because it was a life well spent," he said.
Prophet Joshua also denied ever telling anybody that God did not reveal the death of President Mills to him, otherwise "I would have averted it."
He explained that yesterday was the first time he publicly spoke about the death of the Ghanaian leader.
Prof Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital last Tuesday, after a short illness.
When Mr Samuel Mills was called to speak to the congregation, he spoke for about 30 seconds thanking the church for its prayer support for his father.
Since the death of President Mills, the political class and all Ghanaians have been unanimous in their tributes that he was a great statesman, humble and who would have done great things for the country.
All the political parties have suspended political campaigns in memory of President Mills. Source: Daily Graphic
The workers were preparing to offload the chemical into drums, which they would have used to "treat" water for consumption by Harare residents.
They were expecting to receive liquid aluminum sulphate water treatment chemical on the day.
Sources said there was a mix up, resulting in the driver with the truck loaded with sodium cyanide being sent to deliver the chemical to the water treatment plant.
The workers at the plant informed town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi after being alerted by the driver.
Dr Mahachi directed that the consignment be returned to Bak Storage.
Sources close to the matter said over 19 tonnes of the deadly chemical were being delivered through a local delivery company (name supplied). Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo yesterday said he had received a report on the matter from Dr Mahachi.
"I am still studying the report. I will only be able to give a full report when I have done the necessary investigations," he said.
Dr Mahachi declined to comment and referred all questions to Minister Chombo.
"We have given a report to the minister," he said.
City officials confirmed they had refused to take in the huge consignment, which was received through Bak Storage.
Last week, the city water supply situation was depressed with very few suburbs accessing water.
City officials blamed the shortages on the heavy pollution of Lake Manyame.
According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention website, cyanide is a rapidly acting, potentially deadly chemical that can

exist in various forms, which can be a colourless gas, such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN) or cyanogen chloride (CNCl), or a crystal form such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) or potassium cyanide (KCN).
Hydrogen cyanide, under the name Zyklon B, is a fatal chemical that was once used as a genocidal agent by the Germans during World War II.
In manufacturing, cyanide is used to make paper, textiles and plastics and is present in the chemicals used to develop photographs.
Cyanide salts are used in metallurgy for electroplating, metal cleaning, and removing gold from its ore.
Cyanide gas is used to exterminate pests and vermin in ships and buildings.
People can be exposed to cyanide through breathing air, drinking water, eating food, or touching soil that contains its particles.
The extent of poisoning depends on the amount of cyanide a person is exposed to, route of exposure and length of exposure.
Inhaling the gas causes the most harm but ingesting it can be toxic as well.
It prevents the cells of the body from using oxygen and is more harmful to the heart and brain.
There are reports that some poachers use cyanide to kill elephants and rhinoceros. They put the chemicals in major drinking points and later come and remove horns when the animals eventually die.

New Creation Realities Introduction
Afrikan
Post
How To Cry Out To God The phone rings, and you answer. A sullen voice informs you of a tragedy. Your heart is so heavy that you feel as though you could die. What do you do? Matthew 14:29-30
Bad news, danger, and pain all cause us to look for help. As believers, we dwell with the almighty God, who is able to aid us. At those moments when we are sideswiped by life’s circumstances, we should cry out to Him.
In the Bible, crying out refers to speaking audibly with great emotion concerning an urgent need. God invites us to use this form of prayer to communicate that we desperately need His mercy.
Pastor George Annan Man is a spirit having a soul and living in a body. If a person gets Born Again it is not your body or mind but your spirit that is Born Again. Why spirit? The transgression of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden resulted in a spiritual death or second death.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: When we get Born Again our dead spirit is regenerated and given a new life called Zoë in Hebrew meaning the life of God. John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. God forgives our sins and accepts us as new creatures. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. Even though the Born Again experience is a spiritual one the changes that takes place are so real that it affects our relationship to heaven and how we influence the earth with spiritual principles. They are referred to as New Creation Realities and are categorized as follows: 1. Our position or who we are in Christ 2. Our potential or what we can do in Christ 3. Our possessions or what we have in Christ ………….To be continued www.redemptionnews.org
It takes both faith and humility to share our heart’s concern aloud. Crying out, then, is a way for God’s children to express trust in the Lord’s ability and willingness to help. By calling upon Him with such urgency, we also lay down our pride and any attitude of self-sufficiency.
The Word of God assures us that our Father hears our cries and responds. In Psalm 3:4, for example, David wrote, “I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered from His holy mountain.” When we call aloud for help in Jesus’ name, we invite His power into the situation. Remember that there is strength in just speaking His name.
The Believer's Purpose
God has a purpose for your life. If that weren't true, He'd have taken you home to heaven at the moment of salvation. Do you ever wonder why He left you here? Galatians 5:13
The Lord intends to influence others through you. Our purpose is to be a vessel through which Christ overflows to others--touching those who hurt and desperately need a Savior. Once we are saved, Scripture teaches, our involvement is threefold.
First, we love others. Jesus clearly stated that this was one of the two greatest commandments (Matt. 22:38-39).
Second, we share the good news of salvation (Acts 1:8). Some travel across the world to spread the gospel, while others teach neighbors across the street. The Holy Spirit will direct us to the right people if we are willing to obey.
Third, we serve in a variety of ways, like helping those in need, sharing our resources, and lifting others in prayer. Jesus is our perfect example of all three. His entire life was marked by caring for people--both those who loved Him and those who did not. In fact, the Bible teaches that He humbled Himself and became like us, willing to give up His life for our redemption. There is no greater love; there is no greater act of service.
When we cry out to God, He may remove the problem immediately, yet we often have to wait for His perfect timing. Harsh circumstances might even be allowed to remain for His good purposes. But we can always count on His comfort and presence, which enable us to live with joy and hope
Scripture clearly defines the believer's purpose. Aligning ourselves with God's intentions for His children--loving others, witnessing, and serving-- bring us great satisfaction. In fact, we're still on earth not merely to hear more teaching but to act on it and share with others what we learn.

Simple Short Prayers
In the early morning
Almighty God, Thy Word is cast
I, too, thanks would offer, Jesus, Shepherd dear, For Thy tender pasture, For Thy guiding care.
My Father, for another night
In the early morning, With the sun's first rays. All God's little children Thank and pray and praise.
And I would implore Thee, Be with me this day, Lest I from Thee wander, Into danger stray. Amen.
Almighty God, Thy Word is cast Like seed into the ground; Now let the dew of heaven descend And righteous fruits abound. Amen.
My Father, for another night Of quiet sleep and rest. For all the joys of morning light, Thy holy name be blest. Amen.
Evening Prayer
Trusting God to Keep His Promise
July 2012 Page 26 A f r
Have you ever experienced the bitter sting of a broken promise from a close friend? Few things hurt worse than this kind of betrayal, most likely because it marks the faltering trust between two companions.
For this reason, it is of eternal value to recognize the trustworthiness of almighty God. We serve a God of promises. He pledged a new land for His people, a child to the elderly Abraham, and a Savior for the world. Each of these and many more promises were fulfilled in time, according to His perfect will. Hebrews 10:23 affirms, “He who promised is faithful.”
Sometimes, however, God’s promises are marked with conditions. Although we serve a God of limitless grace and mercy, He often charges us with responsibilities upon which our success will depend. For instance, in today’s passage, we see that confidence, obedience, and endurance are all vital elements in “receiving what has been promised” (Heb. 10:35-36).
This does not mean that we can earn God’s favor with good deeds. In truth, He loves us not for what we do, but because He cannot help loving each of us passionately just as we are.
If we love Him in return, we must take responsibility for what He has called us to do. This is not a maneuver to finagle blessings from Him, but rather an act of humble submission to His will. When we operate from such a standpoint, we are in the perfect position to grab hold of what He wants to give us. Source: Intouch.org
Lord, I have passed another day And come to thank Thee for Thy care. Forgive my faults in work or play And listen to my evening prayer. Thy favor gives me daily bread And friends, who all my wants supply: And safely now I rest my head, Preserved and guarded by Thine eye. Amen

O my Divine Savior, transform me into yourself. May my hands be the hands of Jesus. May my tongue be the tongue of Jesus, Grant that every faculty of my body may serve only to glorify you. Above all, transform my soul and all its powers, that my memory, my will and my affections may be the memory, the will and the affections of Jesus.
I pray you to destroy in me all that is not you.Grant that I may live but in you and for you, and that I may truly say with St. Paul:"I live, now not I, but Christ lives in me" Amen.

Ghanaian Family Mourns Shop Manager Slain In D.C. Robbery Near Nationals Park Hayes Osei Dennis was supposed to close the taxi repair shop he managed a block from Nationals Park at 6 p.m. and get home to Fort Washington to dine with a visiting in-law, who was heading home to Ghana. But for some reason, he lingered.
At 6:45 p.m. Thursday, when his anxious wife called the Gold Star Cab on Q Street SW, Dennis told her he “would be home soon,” according to his brother-in-law. But he never made it to dinner.
(DC Metropolitan Police) - Hayes Osei Dennis, 60, of Fort Washington, fatally stabbed during robbery at taxi repair shop on Thursday, July 19, on Q Street SW, Washington, DC. About 15 minutes after he spoke to his wife, D.C. police said, Dennis was stabbed to death during a robbery. The 60-year-old, who emigrated from Ghana a decade ago, left behind seven children, six boys and one girl between ages 4 and 20.

D.C. Police Lt. Robert Alder of the homicide unit confirmed that Dennis was killed in a robbery outside the shop. The killing occurred about three hours after the Nationals lost to the New York Mets, 9-5.
“We are in the process of retrieving different surveillance tapes from the area,” Alder said. He declined to pro-

of the stabbing. He rushed back to pick up Dennis’s wife, a nurse, and they went to George Washington University Hospital, where they said the victim had been taken.
The owner of Gold Star Cab, Britam Ghuman, said at least two other employees were there with Dennis and saw him get stabbed.
“He would never harm anybody,” Ghuman said of Dennis, who had managed the shop for the past five years. “He was a very nice gentleman.”
With Dennis’s children and his wife, Abigail, too distraught to talk, his 61year-old brother-in-law, Osei Antwi, became the family spokesman. Antwi said he talked to Ghuman and two workers who were there during the attack.
Antwi said the workers told him that Dennis was standing outside when a man asked him for water. “Dennis told him to go in and help himself,” Antwi said. “When he came out, he threatened him with a big knife and said, ‘Give me all the money you have.’ ”
But when they arrived, Antwi said staff sent them back to police, who told them Dennis had died. Antwi, who drives a cab in the District, said relatives here and in West Africa are debating on which continent to hold the funeral. The visiting uncle, Nana Fosuhene, wants the family to move back to Ghana.
“He says to go where there is peace,” Antwi said. “He doesn’t see the reason why we should be in this country, where everyone is dying.” Source: Washingtonpost.com
The workers told Antwi that Dennis gave the man $20 he had in his pocket, turned to walk away and was stabbed twice, once in the body and again in the neck. D.C. police declined to comment on the account the workers gave Antwi.
Antwi said that when Dennis did not return home, the family had dinner. Antwi said he had just returned to his Alexandria home when a friend called him with news
Parents sell children for N4,000 in Makurdi, Benue State suspect, Mr. Sunday Agbo, from Benue state.
Parading the suspect to newsmen on Friday at the Army Headquarters, the Commandant of Army Record, Major General Alphonso Chukwu said the suspect was arrested alongside 10 children, both male and female, on July 26 by his Quick Response Group Team, along Itobe-Ajaokuta road.
REPORTS have indicated that parents in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, were involved in the sale of their children to human traffickers at the sum of N4,000 or N5,000 per ward.
This was revealed when the Quick Response Group Team of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja arrested one human trafficking
According to him, the suspect who hails from Obi Local Government Council of Benue State was arrested in a ash colour Toyota Camry car with the registration number CW 322 LSD with 10 children, comprising of six males and four females between the ages of seven and 19 heading to Lagos state.
He stated that when the suspect was confronted by his men, he said that the children belonged to him, but after fur-
ther interrogation, he confessed that they were handed over to him by his agent, one Madam Janet Akpa, from the same village and that he was asked to deliver them to another agent in Lagos.
The Army Commandant stressed that investigations revealed that Agbo had been trafficking children by discussing with the parents and offering a mere sum of N4,000 or N5,000 naira under the pretext of getting them jobs in Lagos as househelps.
The Army Commandant who enjoined parents to be vigilant so as not to fall prey of the human traffickers, stressed that the children were most vulnerable to ritualists.
One of the children, Blessing Jacob, who said she had just finished her promotional examination to SSS 2 said she was told to follow the suspect to Lagos
for her holiday where she would work for a while.
While still waiting for further details, the suspect received a text message from the agent in Lagos that one of the children he earlier brought to Lagos had absconded from the house.
While speaking with the suspect, he disclosed that this was not his first time, adding that parents of the children were given a token amount of money ranging from N4000 to N5000 for each of the children. Source: Onlinenigeria.com

Meet Thomas Alicoe Appiah, One Of Ghana's Avant-Garde Artists ing to and seeing some of Thomas' work and I know three things for sure: He is extremely passionate about his work, he is multi-talented and above all, he has a strong desire to make people--especially children--happy either directly or indirectly through his work. When I asked him to talk about his work he told me that he has different "styles of painting, but I'd describe my main style as a semi-detailed abstract and a form of free style painting. My figures are painted in an elongated, elaborate, tense and elegant way in sharp and deliberate contrast to harmonious naturalism. I mainly depict African images blended in a non-African style of painting and I also do that through graffiti art".

Thomas Alicoe Appiah
His paintings are amazing and his artistry is exceptional because of the passion he puts into almost everything he does. One minute you will find him sketching something amazing on a piece of paper with a pen or pencil and the next he's wearing a pair of paint stained jeans working or completing yet another of his masterpieces. The person in question here is Thomas Alicoe Kojo Appiah popularly called Kali by those of us who know him very well.
Thomas was born on the 18th of August in the year 1984 in Ghana's port city of Tema. The 'harbor city' as Tema is often called has an inland port and was one of the first of its kind in Africa. Growing up in Tema, Thomas realized at a very early age of his growing up life that he had a great talent for
sketching and coloring. Based on this early discovery of his talent in life he continued to nurture his raw talents and when he reached high school age, he studied with Chemu Senior High School, one of the best schools in Tema, Ghana. Chemu High provided him with the basics he needed to sharpen and properly develop his skills and raw talents.
When he completed his studies at Chemu Senior High he enrolled in a private art institution to improve upon his skills some more and soon afterwards started working on his own for a while. Seeing how dynamic today's world has become and wanting to take advantage of it all, Mr. Appiah studied graphics at the IPMC College of Technology in Ghana with the financial support of his mother who raised him and his siblings as a single parent. I have personally had the opportunity of talk-
It's one thing to hear it from the horses own mouth and it's a totally different thing to see things for yourself and since seeing is believing, I have the privilege of sharing some of Thomas' great work of beauty with those of you who have a Google account here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/118238732236341202086/albums/57596 02394847012481 According to Thomas he "started with a watercolor ink. I applied this on textured card stock, canvas or paper, but now I use acrylic paints, oil paints, can sprays, Graffiti pens and I feel that my paintings have improved". Am no painting connoisseur but I do know and can easily appreciate a greater work of art when I see one but who am I to judge, take a look again for yourself from the samples I have shared with you here and don't forget to like or comment through your Google+ or Gmail accounts. On seeing Mr Appiah's work I felt really impressed and decided to discover what made him tick; that which really inspires him and this was the response he gave me: "I get inspired from the things I see, read or listen to, and sometimes inspiration could even come to me through dreams or my pure imagination. My passion for painting motivates me, but the thought of our vast fading culture motivates me the more to paint a lot more in order to create awareness and preserve our heritage. I have set myself out on a mission to put Ghana and Africa out there positively by using my work to portray ART OUT OF AFRICA!"
"My creative palette extends to several visual channels, and I believe education will improve my skills. I aspire to become a cartoonist one day and also establish an art institution. I want to use my means and talents to help the physically challenged and less privilege ones around me" he says of his long term future ambitions and dreams. Thomas hopes to continue selling some of his art works to raise funds towards his education as well as helping people around him.
I therefore encourage any of you that might be interested in his work to feel free and reach out to me here and I will gladly put you in direct contact with him.
There's been a lot of difficulties that have gotten in the way and continue to get in the way of Mr. Alicoe's desire to achieve his dreams as an artiste with the biggest of such negatives which he has so far been able to somewhat get over being coming to terms with the reality of his father's passing away. This unfortunate happening left him to be raised by a single. Another was the tremendous criticisms he faced from some religious circles in his community and from his peers especially about some of his work and their portrayals which some people felt was in contradiction to their beliefs. Those rather difficult times have been severe enough to almost bring Thomas to a halt. Yet his determination couple with the support received from his mother and those who really believe in what he does is what kept him going till today. When I first saw the kind of work that Thomas was doing and the quality attached to it, I was very surprised that he hadn't got the opportunity to expose himself and his work to the art community in a very formal way in his native Ghana. After talking to him for a while I decided to feature him on my blog especially after hearing him say: "I have not participated in any group exhibition before, yet I have sold a lot of my works mostly to tourists who come visiting Ghana and end up around my art (some of whom I meet privately) though I must confess that even though business is slow in Ghana, sometimes I do get contracts that are very financially rewarding. I have more of my works around the world in countries like Germany, England, Australia, the USA and in my homeland Ghana" he tells me.
It is my hope that this piece will get to bring Thomas Alicoe Appiah more of the exposure he needs especially in the Ghanaian art community and also in the world because until now, the method by which he exhibits his art works is mainly via social media through mediums like Facebook, Google+ and more radical means like doing elaborate and beautiful graffiti either on unpainted walls of uncompleted or abandon buildings. Thomas sees his rather modernistic and unconventional ways of exhibiting his work as being effective in a way because it has been good and has brought him friends, collectors and art lovers from all over and I am hoping you too will become a fan of his.

Principles for Sustainable Increase Part 3. 'And call upon me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you' Ps 50:15 There was this guy who had a brush with the law for being just stupid; he drove his vehicle into somebody’s vehicle with no insurance. Knowing fully well that, that was not only against the law but it deprived him of his ability to go to work, earn a living and maintain his personal dignity. An insurance policy guarantees your ability to hold your head up high in the event of an accident. If you have an insurance policy, your account has to be current, in order to maximize your chance of being covered by your insurance. The insurance idea was lifted from the pages of the bible by the Jews. There are two gates of influence that the Jews have a stronghold on that has made the Jewish Lobby system so powerful: Banking and Finance as well as the Media. As Jewish author and political science professor Benjamin Ginsberg has pointed out: “Since the 1960s, Jews have come to wield considerable influence in American economic, cultural, intellectual and political life. Jews played a central role in American finance during the 1980s, and they were among the chief beneficiaries of that decades corporate mergers and reorganizations. Today, though barely two percent of the nation’s population is Jewish, close to half its billionaires are Jews. The chief executive officers of the three major television networks and the four largest film studios are Jews, as are the owners of the nation’s largest newspaper chain and one of the most influential newspaper, the New York Times. The role and influence of Jews in American politics is equally significant.
Vanity Fair magazine in October 2007 published a list of what it calls “the world’s most powerful people” – a lineup of the one hundred most influential media bosses, bankers, publishers, image makers, and so forth, Jews made up more than half of the powerful men and women on the Vanity Fair list, reported a leading Israeli newspaper, The Jerusalem Post. This has to do more with the physical manifestation of the Abrahamic Covenant. What do the Jews know and practice that some Christians are reluctant to do? The Jews have the Old Testament and use the principles therein to advance their cause. Psalm 50: 5-15 says: gather to me my
saints who have a covenant with me through sacrifice. God wants us to give to causes that glorify His name. He says the cattle on the thousands hills belong to Him. He knows every bird in the mountains and the creatures of the field belong to Him. If He were hungry He will certainly not tell us. The world and everything in It. He just wants us to give, in order to show our commitment and trust in Him by paying our vows, and offering sacrifice of thanksgiving to Him. And if we obey and we are in trouble we should call upon Him and He will come to our aid. This is where the concept of insurance came from; if you show your commitment to Him, He will have you covered when you need Him. Tithe: giving ten percent of your income to God shows your trust and confidence in Him rather than your job that gave you the money. It says you trust God as your source and the Ultimate Provider. The bible says bring it to the House of God so there will be meat in His house.
Some people say tithing is an Old Testament order that does not apply today. More so Jesus did not directly address tithing. It is also true that tithing predates the Mosaic Law. Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek. And Abraham is the father of Faith so if Abraham did something that was endorsed by God why are we reluctant to apply it and enjoy the benefits of it. My friends, there are two things you do not change in life; a winning formula and a winning coach. Abraham tithed and was wealthy and could conquer kings with his household ( Gen13:14-16). Jesus said unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees; the Pharisees majored in external ceremonies to show off their commitment to God. They were fasting, praying and tithing openly to express their commitment to God but sometimes not from the heart. Jesus asked His disciples to go beyond outward display of piety. Let your actions be motivated by love. Tithes were paid so that the Levites and the weak in the society could eat. Ministers still have to eat. The weak in the early Church were taken care of. We still have to use our hearts and remember the poor.(Acts 20:35) Tithes are paid at the local church. There was a guy who stopped going to Church because he said he did not appreciate how his pastor used money. That was not a prudent decision. Truth be told, the fact is, the guy was not in covenant with his pastor. He was in covenant with God and by he not fellowshipping with the faithful he was depriving himself of the Source of all power. The pastor is accountable to God as to the use he puts the Church money to, you remember the sons of Eli? They treated the offering of God with contempt and the Lord dealt with them severely. (1 Sam 2:29-32 ) The tithe is your covenant connector; it reminds God of your trust in Him. And it keeps your heavenly account current. It is just
like you paying your monthly insurance premium. Only that the insurance agency cannot stop you getting into accidents, but God can. He says He will rebuke the devourer for your sake. The men of old lived in the agrarian culture; they reared animals and tilled the land to make a living. God said He would protect their crops from been attacked by pests and rodents. And keep predators away from their animals. Today if you invite God into your finances by paying your tithe He stays the hand of the enemy from your camp. You survive where others fail. What may knock others down may happen to you and you will still be on your feet. God grants you travel mercies on the highways. They may be laying people off at work but you will keep your job. God is faithful and true to His word. The ten percent invites God’s favor and supernatural power into the ninety percent. So if you do not trust your pastor and cannot submit to his leadership ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to a church where you can submit to the leadership and pay your tithe. You cannot afford not to. The benefits are immense. God says if you tithe faithfully he will open the windows of Heaven and pour out a blessing for you.(Mal.3:10) He will bless the work of your hands. He will let you see success in what you do. As narrated by Dr. Bill Bakerbey of Word of Grace Fellowship in Herndon, VA. Pastor Bill had tutored a young man in the manifold benefits of tithing. He bought into it. And started tithing faithfully, and saw abundance in the tapestry of his handiwork. Putting $10,000 in the offering bowl was not a bother to him. His clients became so many he was making one million dollars a month. That was when he started reasoning into giving to God. Wow, how can I put $100,000 into the offering bowl? He quipped. He stopped going to Church in order not to tithe. And the windows of Heaven begun to close over his assigned territory; one by one clients refused to renew their contracts closed their accounts. Those who owed him failed to pay up. Credit lines were withdrawn. And like the prodigal son he came to his senses and remembered the God Who set him on the road to success, and asked for forgiveness. He says pay your vows and call unto Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you. You want the favor of God to be strong in your camp?, be a tither; it connects you to God’s unlimited provision.( Ps 23; Mal 3:10b) You want God to build His hedge of protection around you and caused you to be on your feet no matter what the enemy throws at you?( Ps.91; Mal 3:11) Give ten percent of you income to God and He will show Himself strong on your behalf.( 2Ch 16:9) Will you
The Power Of Patience July 2012

Picture yourself waiting in a checkout line that hasn’t moved for ten minutes. Many of us would feel frustrated. We live in a generation that expects instant results.Hebrews 6:9-15
Everyone struggles with some degree of impatience. We’re born with this trait—think about a three-month-old who wants milk in the middle of the night. The inborn reaction is to fuss at the first hint of discomfort and to keep at it until the need is met. Patterns from our old “flesh” nature make this a continual battle for most people, but one that is very worthwhile to fight. Let’s consider the biblical definition of patience. It can mean both longsufferingand perseverance, or not giving up and yielding under pressure. In either case, it reveals itself when we are willing to wait without frustration while suffering or experiencing some strong desire. In other words, we accept difficult situations without giving God deadlines. What’s more, patience means accepting what the Lord gives, on Histimetable—or what He chooses not to give. This quality results in inner peace and lack of stress. Meanwhile, we should pray, obey, and persist as we seek God’s direction. The danger of impatience is that we might miss the Lord’s perfect plan and His blessing. Only when we trust our Father’s will and timing can we rest peacefully.
What causes you stress? Carefully examine whether you are taking matters into your own hands or releasing the circumstance to almighty God. Listen to Psalm 37:7, which says, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Seek His way and His timing. Anything else can be destructive. Source: Intouch.org.

ence positive changes in the society.
E.T. Mensah
The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has underlined the need for the Church to intensify its evangelism to bring hope and confidence to the people.
He said the Church has to do more to help the people to have trust in God and to lead honest and pious lives. He was speaking at an induction service held for 21 lay evangelists of the Church at the Bethel Methodist Chapel at Ayigya in Kumasi. Among them was Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing.
The Most Rev Prof Asante, who is also the National Chairman of the Peace Council, admonished them to preach peace and to also let their teachings influ-
He said since majority of Ghanaians are Christians, the church must accept to play a unique role to discourage indiscipline and social injustices. Additionally, he said, the Church should work together with the State to promote the socio-economic, political and spiritual development of the people.
The Most Rev expressed optimism that the nation would go through the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections peacefully. He invited the congregation to pray for the evangelists to be blessed and guided by God.
Mr Mensah, speaking to journalists on the sidelines, appealed to all to work together to make the December polls peaceful, transparent, and credible. He said, though a politician, he was strong in his faith, adding that politics and religion could not be separated. Source: GNA

Exclusive information reaching Peacefmonline.com indicates that the governor of Bank of Ghana, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has been appointed as the vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
Several names came up within the week for the position, but the governor of Bank of Ghana beat off stiff competition from other renowned NDC personalities.
The position of the Vice President became vacant following the elevation of the then Vice President John Mahama to the high office of the President after the death of President Mills at the 37 Military Hospital on Tuesday July 24, 2012..
Article 60 (10) of the 1992 Constitution states that “the Vice President shall, upon assuming office as President under clause 6 of this article nominate a person to the office of Vice President subject to approval by Parliament.”
Article 60 (1) of the 1992 Constitution also states that there shall be a Vice President of Ghana who shall perform such functions as may be assigned to him by this Constitution or by the President.
Dr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, an Economist was appointed by the late President Mills as Governor of the Central Bank on October 1, 2009 to replace Dr. Paul Acquah who served 8 years as Governor.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur holds a Masters Degree in Economics and has lectured in Economics at the University of Ghana and also at the Anambra State College of Education, Awka Anambra State, Nigeria.
Mr. Amissah Arthur also worked as PNDC Deputy Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and continued to work in the same capacity during the first term of the Rawlings-led NDC Government.
He was among the team of technocrats who managed Ghana’s structural adjustment programme since 1980 that helped in reviving the collapsing Ghanaian economy.
Prior to his appointment as Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank, he worked as a private consultant.
There has been intense lobbying for that top position.
The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia’s mastery over economics, against the backdrop of his identification of the challenges facing the country’s fiscal management, was largely used by the opposition NPP to parry political polemics from its rival NDC as the two engaged each other in the game of partisan politics.

Beautiful Nollywood actress, Dakore Akande best known as Dakore Egbuson has made a return into the acting world after a long absence. Since after her marriage to her hubby, Olumide in January 2011, Dakore has not featured in movies as she used to do.
Shortly after her marriage, it was speculated that the sexy make-believe queen would quit acting. This was further believed by some when she was not seen in movies afterwards.
From information we are getting now, Dakore would feature in a movie titled 'Journey To Self'. As we learnt, Dakore will act alongside Nse Ikpe Etim, Catherine Edoho, Kalu Ikeagwu, Femi Jacobs and others. Is this a full return of the queen or a one off thing?

In a bid to encourage continuity in office, the Special Assistant to the Imo State government on Lagos Liaison, Hon. Lisa Asugha has called on the Imo people to hearten their support on her successor, the Special Assistant on Public Affairs and Nollywood actress, Nkiru Syvalnus so to foster the developmental plans of the present administration.
Asugha who was the Special Assistant on Public Affairs before the swap of portfolio with the Nollywood actress made this known in one of the State’s functions while briefing newsmen.
According to her, the level of encouragement her successor will receive while serving the people of the State will spur her to do more. Asugha furthered that her office requires a continual communication with the people, adding that it is only when the people lay complaints or feedbacks on how government policy is affecting them that she will act upon.
“Imo people are the best when it
comes to corporation. As long as you are willing to work, they will support you. And right now, I am stepping into another office, I urge them never to relent, because they are the true definition of democracy; and that’s why the government can’t function well without them. I urge them to support my successor, because if her office is affected it also affects the government in a whole,” she urged.
Furthermore, she assured that with the qualities saddled on Nkiru Sylvanus that she will excel, continuing that for her to be a star it means public acceptance, which she admitted that it takes one’s tenacity, resilience and hardwork to be a public figure.
Meanwhile, Hon. Lisa Asugha has already commenced work in Lagos, as she has paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola. On her master plan and blue print for the Imo laision office, she disclosed of unveiling it in due time. Source:Nigeriafilms.com

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has been speaking about her hubby and Nollywood media say she does that with some air of happiness.
“If I had not married him, I would not have married anyone else,” was a comment she reportedly made about her husband before the weekend.
Nigeriafilms.com said their union was16 years and was one of the few marriages in Nollywood that were scandal free. “It would have been extremely painful if my husband takes things to heart, then it would have been a roller coaster ride for me and then I have to go through the problem again and again. When their paths first crossed, a young Omotola had just lost her father; hence the emotional trauma she was experiencing at that time was overwhelming.
Then her husband showed up with a ray of hope and then she fell for his charming nature. “In those days I was young so there were ways I particularly handle things that were immature so I would snap very fast because I was short-tempered.
So many people will think I was very difficult, even my mother.
But he would tell her to leave me alone. Even then, my mother will say ‘you will not marry, there is no one that will marry you’,” she said with a smile. Describing her husband as
her love ‘therapist’, Ekeinde attributed her spiritual growth to her husband.
“I have even gone closer to Christ because of his exemplary behavior and the way he handles things.
With the maturity I find in him, I can admire that and then emulate him.
That is the connection and the way I have been able to live with him.”
Asked if she considered herself a doting mother to her four children, the actress let out a gale of laughter, saying, “In my own mind, yes. In fact, my kids think I am their situation too much.
So I am thinking that if I was around, they would have run away from the house. I feel I am a very hands-on mum.
In fact I just got back from Ghana and they were telling me that I am always on the phone with them.
Even though my husband is always around, I know what they are doing every minute.
I think I am a bit too strict with them maybe because I am taking after my mother. She was a disciplinarian to the core.”

“As he said, he wanted to rebuild his confidence and it is important that now that he is back, all Ghanaian should put their support behind him.
“No matter what he has done, we need to put everything behind us and give him the full support needed. At the end of the day, he has come to kill himself for Ghana.”
FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter has paid a glowing tribute to the late Ghana President John Evans Atta Mills for his contribution to the game in the country.
The leader of football’s world governing body expressed his sadness over the death of Mills when he met Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi in England on Sunday.
Nyantakyi, who is working for FIFA as a Match Commissioner at the ongoing Olympic Games in London, held a meeting with Mr Blatter on Sunday when the Swiss administrator expressed his condolences to the people of Ghana.
“It was with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills,” Sepp Blatter told Nyantakyi at the meeting.

“I am fully committed and focused on our clear goals ahead as a nation on the quest for qualification for both AFCON 2013 and the World Cup in 2014,” the returning striker said.
“Even more sadly is that he was a great man. He will be missed by all."
Blatter joins other key personalities in football like Issa Hayatou, the CAF President, who have expressed their sorrow over the ardent football follower’s passing.
The late Ghanaian leader served as a Board Chairman of Premier League side Hearts of Oak in the 1990s and was once a chairman of the Black Stars management committee.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah makes a passionate appeal to supporters to lay off Asamoah Gyan as the striker makes a return to international football.
The striker last week announced his decision to return to the national team after a five-month absence.
Gyan took temporary break from international football in February after the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations but in a letter to the Ghana Football Association, he communicated his availability for selection for the Black Stars.
However, Appiah who is yet to work with Gyan since assuming full coaching responsibility of the national team is rallying the country to back the striker, reiterating that any disaffection towards him [Gyan] should be left in the past.

Africa’s First Olympic Fencing Medal Comes From Egyptian Student
South African Swimmer Sets New World Record
Alaaeldin Abouelkassem, an engineering student who says his friends back home in Egypt make fun of him for being a fencer, won Africa’s first Olympic medal in the sport.
The 21-year-old eliminated world champion Andrea Cassara of Italy in the men’s foil yesterday before losing the gold-medal match 15-13 to Lei Sheng of China.
“There was no stress for me,” Abouelkassem told reporters at London’s ExCel Arena. “I’m from Africa and nobody thought I could win.”
His silver medal is an African first in a sport that has been contested in the Olympics since 1896, and for decades was dominated by European nations including Italy and Russia. The 6-foot-2 (1.88-meter) Abouelkassem beat Germany’s four- time world fencing champion Peter Joppich 15-10 and downed Cassara by the same score on the way to the final.
Abouelkassem, who has a Polish coach, said he is the only Egyptian fencer who gets a government grant that pays for him to train abroad, although he prefers to stay in Alexandria near his friends and family.
He said his first thoughts after winning were for his father, who died in a car accident three months ago and had hoped to see him win an Olympic medal.
“I still can’t believe it,” Abouelkassem said. “I hope not just my country but Africa is proud.”

Abouelkassem, who moved to Alexandria from his father’s native Algeria at age 4, said he was invited to take up fencing while at school. He joined a fencing club in the Egyptian city in which there were no adult fencers, he told reporters.
“My friends still make fun of me,” he said.

South Africa: Athletes Are Among the Best in the World Mbalula
Johannesburg — South Africa's first medal at the London Olympic Games has been lauded by sports minister Fikile Mbalula.
"We are now counted amongst the best in the world," Mbalula said in a statement late Sunday night.
Earlier in the evening, Cameron van der Burgh secured the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke, in a world record time, to leave the SA team in tied 13th place in the medals table after two days of competition.
Mbalula said he had spoken to Van der Burgh earlier in the week.
The swimmer had assured him the team would recover after Banyana Banyana lost their opening match of the women's football tournament on Wednesday. "Cameron told me that what happened to Banyana in Coventry should not damper the country's spirit, as the South African flag will be raised high when he accepts the gold medal," Mbalula said. "Indeed, today I was touched when he broke the world record." Source: Allafrica.com
