前言 Foreword 21世紀科技當道，教育界人士特別強調教育改革 的重要性。我們需要改變教導年青人學習和思考 的方法。 科技日新月異，使我們的社會日漸複雜。自動化 技術入侵日常生活，也一步步取代勞動力。 然而，科技再便利先進，我們終究為人。而人文 精神正是連繫人類、社會和整個世界的關鍵。 許多現代教育法都著重鍛煉年青人在STEM 學科的能力。不過近年來，越來越多人了解 到，STEM教育其實也需要STEAM： 面的A代表 藝術（Arts），或是創意及解難能力。它能夠有 效促進學習，讓STEM更上一層樓。 有見及此，誇啦啦開闢嶄新且創新的教育途徑， 發掘年青人在舊有教育模式中無法培育的潛能。 此外，誇啦啦意識到人文精神是連結STEAM的 元素，當中一套量身訂做的教學法包含藝術及 創意概念，給年青人一個融合和創新的學習方 法。 Bravo! 與 Sm-ART 青年計劃都證明這種教學 法有效激發創意及創新思維，也有助年輕一輩認 識自我，認識社會，從而鼓勵他們在藝術及科學 領域上多加探索，力求進步。 藝術這門學科發展成創新架構，可同時集合明辨 思維、解讀、想像、協作和溝通能力。這過程更 喚醒我們何為人、何為社會，還有我們理想中的 世界。透過結合STEAM和誇啦啦的戲劇教育，年 青人得以反思如何在當今世代編寫人生篇章。 邵馮詠愛 洪宏道 誇啦啦董事局聯席主席
Now more than ever, in a technology-focused 21st century, developers in education have highlighted the need for reforms in the way we teach young people how to learn and to think. The rapid change brought on by technology has rendered our society into a highly complex one, in which automation encroaches increasingly on our daily lives and replacing our work force. Whatever conveniences or advances science and technology have brought, we are ultimately human. And it is our humanity that is the crucial connection between people, our communities and the living planet. Much of modern educational practices have focused on the need on achieving success in the STEM disciplines. Yet there is now a growing movement and understanding that STEM in fact, requires STEAM – the A being the Arts, or the creative and problem-solving language that can elevate learning and indeed, STEM to a whole new level. As such, AFTEC brings an alternative and creative educational pathway to young people that allows them to discover latent talents that otherwise cannot be cultivated in a traditional education model. AFTEC recognises that the humanities are the link in STEAM in which the arts and creativity can be embedded deeply into customised pedagogy to enable inclusive and innovative learning. The Bravo! and Sm-Art Youth programmes have proven to foster creativity, innovation, a sense of self as well as community, in young people, which in turn, encourages them to engage and advance in both the arts and sciences in ways they could not have conceived of previously. The arts as a discipline is an innovative framework that brings critical thinking, interpretation, imagination, collaboration and communication skills into play at the same time. It brings to bear what it means to be human, what community means and the kind of environment we want to live in. By marrying STEAM with AFTEC’s theatre approach, young people now have the tools with which to ask themselves how and what they would like to do as authors of their lives today. Also, observing their enthusiasm, imagination and focus during the process and in the end product gave me a great sense of achievement.

But that does not stop them from searching for that perfect colour, note, line, movement, and combination. Whether it is my personality or upbringing, this aspiration has also rubbed off on me. The imagination of artists inspires me to seek a version of a perfect society, world, and system. In pursuit of perfection, and even when such a quest seems doomed to fail, I hope we will still find ourselves in a better version of this world. The arts are responsible for shaping my worldview and giving me faith.

AFTEC’s Medical Humanities programme really benefits our medical students. They learned how to listen, interpret and respond to stories of suffering, and also to tackle different perspectives and handle ambiguity. It opened my mind as to how serious topics in medical education can be delivered in such an interesting way.

Running LAMDA was a choice I made to empower and inspire young people to be the best artists they could be and to ensure young people from all backgrounds could engage in the arts. AFTEC is a unique organisation. I have seen at first hand at LAMDA how Bravo! made substantial changes in the lives of the young people they work with.

After joining AFTEC to become a tutor, I realised that in nurturing creative young minds, I could no longer allow myself to be lazy or to take short cuts. The role of a teacher is not simply to teach; long-term planning requires social workers to be more than participants. Reflecting on their role as an “artist” is necessary to create real change in the lives of the students.

Without the arts, my life would most probably be dull and meaningless. Nowadays, people put all their effort into work with no time to appreciate their environment. Being involved in the arts can be simple and pure: it doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, a simple drawing will do. Whether it is through Chinese dancing or drama, the arts began to nourish my life as I allowed myself to relax and de-stress from work. Now I never feel exhausted or overwhelmed.

The arts have really enriched my own life and I wanted to share it. Over the past seven years, I have borne witness to how the Sm-ART Youth Project has transformed young people: improved communications with friends and family; more motivation at school; more confidence; becoming more caring and supportive of others, cultivating the ability to think for themselves and ask questions rather than being non-thinkers. Nothing is more heart-warming than when parents come up to thank me for changing their children’s lives: such as when I witnessed a girl who was so shy she only whispered with her head down to being able to speak with confidence on stage, and a boy who thought he was useless until he found his talent in acting.

AFTEC opened up a new path in my life — connecting me to my emotions, allowing me to discover introspection and an unfettered imagination, and helping me find a way back to my feelings. To achieve a balance between feelings and rationality in life is no easy task, but thanks to AFTEC I have once again found contentment in my internal life.

It has been a wonderful journey working with AFTEC, a likeminded partner who shares our belief in the power of arts to transform youth. Achievements in arts may not be measured in public examinations, but they are measured in LIFE. Society no longer rewards people for just being academically sound; we need all-rounders, people who have the courage to face challenges, and those who can stand tall after every fall. Bravo! participants undergo a metamorphosis that leave them more proactive, more resilient, more confident and more expressive as they gear up for future opportunities and challenges. I want to share one of my favourite quotes from Mother Teresa with the Bravo! participants: “Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.”

Previously, most or all of my time as an actor was involved with entertaining or thrilling an audience or public in work that was always commercially oriented, whether stage or screen, even if it was also from a classic writer. When I work for AFTEC I always remember in the back of my mind that the audience needs to both hear me and understand me, so more clarity is required in all areas, both vocally & visually. It is no use simply looking or sounding good; I want the audience to fully get the idea, and I don’t think I will lose this greater sense of awareness.

Since joining AFTEC’s programmes, we can understand the true value of innovation. Ian Jim: The arts have given me a solid basis of understanding of my senses through aesthetic lens. The principle of aesthetics originates from the interaction between man and nature, and the sense of beauty people discovered in the process. The nature of aesthetics also makes people behave in a more refined and civilized manner, and can also help influence and add colour to other peoples’ lives.

In every school there is always a group of “average” young people. Their grades and performance are nothing special, their behaviour is not so bad that they require special attention. Many end up being forgotten and neglected. Sm-ART cares about each individual’s development and through appropriate activities, even these “average” young people can change and blossom, raising their hands to ask questions and becoming active and interested in the classroom.

Sm-ART 青年計劃不單讓孩子有機會接觸 不同類型的藝術，更學習如何運用「五 感」認識身邊四周事物、學習細意觀察、 透過欣賞藝術認識歷史、文化、當代生 活，又在遊戲及活動中學習以不同層面去 思考及學會主動發問。一年了！我見證著 每一個小伙子均在不同領域上有進步：有 的學會突破框框、有的勇於嘗試、有的學 習聆聽別人、有的學習敢於發言、有的試 著留意及關心別人需要。
The Sm-ART Youth Project not only allows the children to experience a variety of disciplines in the arts, but also how to use their five senses to understand everything around them, to learn to observe and appreciate history, culture and modern life through the arts. In addition, the games and activities also teach critical thinking and inquiring minds. It’s been a whole year already! During this time, I have witnessed every one of these kids improve in different ways - some have made huge breakthroughs, some the courage to try new things, others the skill to listen or to speak up, and others still the ability to observe and care for others.

始創於2012年，為香港大學李嘉誠醫學院提供學科課程中的藝術工作坊。 自創辦以來，超過2,845位醫科生透過人文學科學習關懷病人。 Credit-bearing arts workshop for undergraduates of The Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong since 2012. Since 2012, over 2,845 first year medical students have learned empathy through the humanities.
I think emotions help create a fascinating dichotomy of professionalism and personalised empathy, two facets that encapsulate the roles of doctors and individuals respectively. It challenges people to decide who they shall choose to be in that moment.

I like the choice of the play as it exactly addresses the issues young people face today, such as relationships, family, life and death. I hope that such educational theatre can reach more young people from different backgrounds and social classes, and bring about change in our society.

老師 Teacher 對於小孩子來說，故事情節淺白易明，幽默到位，就連老師和成年人 也喜歡欣賞。 The plot was very accessible to the children & the humour was spot on — something even teachers and adults could appreciate.
學生 Students 我非常享受觀看這部劇，角色設計精巧、戲服製作精美。故事情節忠 於原著。我十分期待將來可以欣賞更多誇啦啦的製作。 I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The characters were quite funny and their costumes were great. The story line followed the original story very well. I hope I can watch more AFTEC shows and productions in the future!
我覺得這次表演出色的地方是人物表演。表演的動作、表情、語氣恰 好能掌握到小朋友們的笑點、興趣 。 The best part of the show was the actors’ performances – their movements, expressions and delivery are really amusing and interesting for kids.
