LOTTIE DAVIES: Ĺ? Ĺ? She takes inspiration from classical and modern painting, cinema and theatre as well as the worlds of literature. She employs a deliberate reworking of our visual vocabulary, playing on our notions of nostalgia, with the intention of evoking a sense of narrative and movement. „‌I also wanted to try a different approach, by creating images from an idea in someone’s head, rather than the ’found’ images I often shoot.

PĹ™i kaĹždĂŠ pĹ™ĂleĹžitosti uveĹ™ejĹˆuje nĂĄzev vĂ˝stavy Making the Worlds (TvoĹ™enĂ svÄ›tĹŻ) v nÄ›kolika jazycĂch, aby zdĹŻraznil, Ĺže svÄ›tĹŻ je mnoho. Je li svÄ›t pluralitnĂ entitou, pak se za tĂm slovem neskrĂ˝vĂĄ ona koule pokrytĂĄ vodou, vegetacĂ a tÄ›kajĂcĂmi ĹživĂ˝mi bytostmi, ale kom plex myĹĄlenĂ˝ch vztahĹŻ, kterĂŠ nemajĂ jeden stĹ™ed, ani jeden univerzĂĄl nĂ klĂÄ?. Pojem „svÄ›t“ oznaÄ?uje pochopenĂŠ souvislosti, porozumÄ›nĂ smyslu materiĂĄlnĂch vÄ›cĂ, splĂ˝vĂĄnĂ skuteÄ?nosti s moĹžnostĂ, dynamic kou strukturu, v nĂĹž mĂĄ subjekt v kaĹždĂŠm okamĹžiku aktivnĂ, odpovÄ›d nou – tedy svobodnou roli. A stejnÄ› jako svÄ›ty majĂ ideĂĄlnĂ povahu i umÄ›leckĂĄ dĂla, kterĂĄ je reflektujĂ. PĹ™ijmeme li ideĂĄlnĂ povahu svÄ›ta a umÄ›leckĂŠho dĂla, pak uĹž nenĂ obtĂĹžnĂŠ vzĂt vĂĄĹžnÄ› dalĹĄĂ Birnbaumovo tvrzenĂ, Ĺže umÄ›leckĂŠ dĂlo nemĂĄ povahu zboŞà a Ĺže vztah k nÄ›mu nelze realizovat vlastnictvĂm. A tudĂĹž ani pluralita kultur – svÄ›tĹŻ nenĂ nÄ›Ä?Ăm pĹ™ekvapujĂcĂm. To bylo v minulosti Ä?asto opakovĂĄno (Clement
Greenberg, Maurice Merlau Ponty) a mĂĄ to svĂŠ hlubokĂŠ oprĂĄvnÄ›nĂ. Je li svÄ›t souvislostĂ vĂ˝znamĹŻ a dÄ›jĂcĂch se udĂĄlostĂ, pak v kaĹždĂŠm aktu porozumÄ›nĂ tÄ›mto souvislostem skuteÄ?nÄ› vznikĂĄ. UmÄ›leckĂŠ dĂlo je udĂĄlostĂ porozumÄ›nĂ svÄ›tu a sobÄ› samĂŠmu. Lhostejno, je li namalova nĂŠ, vyĹ™ezanĂŠ Ä?i instalovanĂŠ, je li realistickĂŠ Ä?i abstraktnĂ, je vĹždy vzni kem novĂŠho vÄ›domĂ souvislostĂ, kterĂŠ tvořà svÄ›t. Birnbaum nepĂĹĄe explicitnÄ› o vztahu subjektu a spoleÄ?nosti, ani o individuu a jeho svobodÄ›, ale u vÄ›tĹĄiny vystavenĂ˝ch dÄ›l vidĂme kon krĂŠtnĂ podobu napÄ›tĂ mezi individuem a spoleÄ?nostĂ, aĹĽ uĹž dĂla budeme Ĺ™adit do oblasti „institutional critique“, nebo ne. Nejsme svÄ›dky vzkřà ťenĂ postmodernou pohĹ™benĂŠho subjektu Ä?i autora. SociĂĄlnĂ vazby, zĂĄvislosti na druhĂ˝ch lidech, na danĂŠ podobÄ› semiĂłzy, na kulturnĂm prostĹ™edĂ a na dalĹĄĂch danostech v souÄ?asnĂŠm vĂ˝tvarnĂŠm projevu oslabeny nejsou. ZĂĄroveĹˆ je ale zjevnĂŠ, Ĺže zpĹŻsob lidskĂŠho porozu mÄ›nĂ, ona „blĂzkost“ vÄ›ci, nemĹŻĹže bĂ˝t uskuteÄ?nÄ›na jinak neĹž v indivi duĂĄlnĂm kontaktu, angaĹžovĂĄnĂm celĂŠ potenciality individuĂĄlnĂ mysli, daleko pĹ™ekraÄ?ujĂcĂ prĂĄvÄ› platnĂ˝ objektivnĂ model. Tato subjektivnĂ pl nost individuĂĄlnĂho proĹžitku nestojĂ proti spoleÄ?nosti a jejĂm institucĂm. Individuum a spoleÄ?nost (instituce) tu stojĂ jako dva pĂłly, kterĂŠ se zĂĄ roveĹˆ vyluÄ?ujĂ i podmiĹˆujĂ a konkrĂŠtnĂ podoba tohoto napÄ›tĂ se v Be nĂĄtkĂĄch ukazuje v nespoÄ?etnĂŠm mnoĹžstvà „plodnĂ˝ch konfliktĹŻâ€œ. Birnbaumovo „neporozumÄ›nĂ“, chaos, mnohost a hlavnÄ› produkti vita stĹ™etĹŻ a konfliktĹŻ poukazuje k dÄ›nĂ lidskĂŠ svobody, kterĂŠ je pĹ™iro zenÄ› vnitĹ™nÄ› konfliktnĂ a velkĂĄ vÄ›tĹĄina vystavenĂ˝ch umÄ›leckĂ˝ch dÄ›l svÄ›dÄ?Ă o tĂŠto plodnĂŠ konfliktnosti. DvÄ› konzervativnĂ kritiÄ?ky Luca Beatrice z listu Libero a Beatrice Buscaroli z Berlusco niho Il Giornale tu shromĂĄĹždily umÄ›nĂ, kterĂŠ podle mĂŠho nĂĄzoru usku teÄ?Ĺˆuje to, co poĹžaduje Jerry Saltzer ve svĂŠ populistickĂŠ recenzi v New York Magazine (19. 6. 2009): „UmÄ›nĂ, kterĂŠ prorazĂ enervujĂcĂ

Je sa mozĹ™ejmĂŠ, Ĺže i pĹ™esto se autoĹ™i komentåřů dotĂ˝kajĂ stejnĂ˝ch udĂĄlostĂ, Ĺže se Ä?lĂĄnky v nÄ›kterĂ˝ch bodech kĹ™ĂĹžĂ, neboĹĽ je svĂ˝m zpĹŻsobem pĹ™i rozenĂŠ, Ĺže chtÄ›jĂ vyjĂĄdĹ™it nĂĄzor na nejdĹŻleĹžitÄ›jĹĄĂ momenty tohoto set kĂĄnĂ. Mnoho pracĂ v pĹ™ehlĂdce Daniela Birnbauma Making Worlds i v nĂĄrodnĂch zastoupenĂch je kvalitnĂch, zajĂmavĂ˝ch, vzbuzujĂcĂch dis kusi i nadĹĄenĂ, a o tÄ›ch jednoznaÄ?nÄ› nejlepĹĄĂch se zmiĹˆuje tĂŠměř kaĹždĂ˝. I tak nelze zaznamenat vĹĄechny a ty mĂŠnÄ› atraktivnĂ Ä?i nevy daĹ™enĂŠ zĹŻstĂĄvajĂ ĂşplnÄ› opomenuty.
