the Freedom Monument. Multimedia artist Evelina Deicmane (1978) represented Latvia at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009). Her art works have been incorporated at the international art shows – 15th Sydney Biennale (2006), the 2nd Moscow Biennale (2007), the Manifesta 7 (2008) and the 12th Cairo Biennale (2010). Photo Project „Black Fairy – Tales” has been created in collaboration with popular French artist Theo Mercier in Year 2007. Evelina Deicmane uses mixed technics in her work, experimenting with sound and visual elements. Her conceptual approach is tempered by existential moods and human experiences, creating a space where sorrow collides with happiness and drama is diffused with humor. „These fairy tales are about human behavior brought about by wonders, mysteries or secret events that can only take place in a private, personal space. In these stories, the person changes into an animal, while the surrounding space becomes a forest. A forest consisting of furniture, rugs and earth, chairs and tree stumps, a radio and branches,” says Evelīna Deičmane.
