Employability Tools is a transnational project focused on creating friendly and useful tools for young adults to develop their employability competences. It was supported by Erasmus +, the European Commission, under Strategic Partnerships for Youth (Key-Action 2 Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices) – project nr 2016-2-PT02-KA205-003613. A group of trainers, youth workers, community workers, career counsellors and project managers from 6 different organisations in Portugal, Belgium and Italy shared ideas during 2016 / 2018 to build: - the EMPLAY App - the EMPLAY Board Game - the EMPLAY Planner - the EMPLAY Handbook for Employability Workers These 4 tools are aimed at different targets; some are made for tech-lovers, others for the ones who love the smell of paper; some are meant to be used in a group, others are for you and you only. All the tools aim to support reflection, awareness development and self-improvement for various dimensions of employability. There are no answers or fixed advice. We prefer questions, inspiring ideas and /or challenges to make YOU wonder where you are and where you want your life path to lead you when it comes to work. You can find these tools for free at www.emplay.eu

It’s more effective to send it to only a few companies by selecting those you’d like to work for. Then customise the CV according to each one and, preferably, deliver it in person.

Both are important because they are a reflection of the candidate: it should look neat and stand out visually from the crowd; the content must be organised, clear and concise.

Illustrate the competences /skills you listed with examples/concrete experiences (e.g. teamwork - I joined a team of 9 people in company X; I was a football player).

You should mention any references you may have from former teachers or employers. It may be important for recruiters to have information about a candidate from other professionals

Customise your CV for each and every application. It’s best to have a common base and then make adjustments according to the position you are applying for.

Generally recruiters don’t read an entire CV and they will only do it if something grabs their attention. The Europass CV is standard so it will hardly stand out. A personalised CV may be more appealing.

Qualifications and work experience may not be the most important. Motivation, attitude, ability to relate to others and life experience are decisive in the selection process.

Spelling and grammatical errors can exclude a candidate because they reveal both ignorance of basic language rules and also show a lack of care and accuracy.

The personal profile highlights your relevant skills and achievements for the position you are applying for. The profile summarises in a few words the recruiter’s most important question: why should I choose this person?

From 1 to 5: I take time to prepare a strategy for an active job search. I organise my active job search according to questions such as: what? How? When? With whom? What do I need? I know the type of companies/areas that interest me and where my skills and experience can be an asset. I have a schedule where I organise my days, set my daily and weekly goals and it includes leisure time. I have compiled a list of contacts throughout my life - people I've met, with whom I studied or worked. I keep regularly in touch with my contacts in order to be visible and position myself in the labour market by expanding my network. I register all applications I make: including the date,, means of contact (email, letter, by hand); company; jobs; conditions; documents submitted. I look for ways to stay motivated and to be persistent in seeking a job. I try to pamper myself and take care of my image and health. I often meet with my friends and maintain social contacts. Isolation is an enemy! I regularly do things that please me and make me feel good. I am usually aware and look for opportunities to learn and meet people in my area (like reading, training, events). Belgium

A year ago J. found work in security. He’d had difficulties at school between the ages of 16 and 18 caused by school fatigue. After repeating a year he eventually graduated from high school. He then started teacher training college but dropped out after two months because it proved too difficult - having dyslexia and dyscalculia didn’t help. He did volunteer work to keep himself busy for a couple of months. He then did trials to join the police force but failed.

While doing volunteer work at the community center he met S. (another volunteer) who worked for a security company.

S. proposed to J. that he should apply for a job there, as they were looking to hire new staff (because of a heightened terror threat). S. had got his job because of 2 factors: having a reasonable knowledge of the French language and having a driver’s license . J. acted accordingly and undertook a crash course in French and driving lessons. He passed both and could apply for the job at the security firm. He was hired immediately and has been doing the job for nearly a year with lots of enthusiasm.

During the body scan exercise you must pay close attention to any physical sensations in your entire body. The goal isn’t to change or relax your body, but to become more aware of it.

Begin by focusing on any feelings in your feet. Notice any sensations such as warmth, coolness, pressure, pain, or the breeze moving on your skin.

Slowly move up your body to your calves, thighs, pelvis, stomach, chest, back, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, neck, and finally your head.

PARTNERS DNA Cascais is a non-profit association in Cascais – Portugal, aiming at contributing to the general promotion, encouragement and development of entrepreneurship, with a focus on the promotion of youth and social entrepreneurship in Cascais. Throughout its 12 years of existence, it has supported the creation of over 300 new companies and 1.670 new jobs. Xena Association is a non-profit cultural association based in Padova - Italy. Founded in 1995 to promote intercultural learning, non-formal education and active citizenship, its team includes trainers, experts in European programmes, educators, psychologists, animators, facilitators, experts in youth training, information and guidance and language teachers. The role of voluntary work is also valuable, provided at all levels by members from various nationalities. It has always promoted both local and international projects, mainly
