Admissions
Grade Point Ratio (GPR)
Disadvantages in Review
A 2.5 GPR on a minimum of 24 graded semester hours of transferable coursework is required by the application deadline.
Frequent course drops/withdraws Unsatisfactory grades (D or F, depending on intended major)
The necessary GPR varies by college and major.
Specifying a Major
Admission Decisions Decisions are made by each college and major.
Majors indicated ‘first choice’ are given priority. Admission to second-choice majors is often more competitive.
Admission standards are based on the competitiveness of the applicant pool.
Note: Several colleges do not consider second-choice majors.
Preference is given to applicants with the highest GPR and most courses completed in the appropriate Degree Track.
Application Info
Admission Denial
The entire ApplyTexas Application is considered.
Applicants denied for the fall term may submit spring grades if received by June 1 (subject to space within major).
Essay Topic A is required. Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly describe their educational goals.
Some colleges/majors do not review spring grades; however, applicants may qualify for review by their second-choice major.
Choose your major... Then, reference tables 1 and 2 of the degree tracks tab to determine which courses you should complete before you apply.

Texas Common Course Numbers: To assist students transferring from one Texas school to another, many institutions of higher education in Texas have adopted the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS). For course equivalencies, visit www.tccns.org or tx.ag/trequivalency. Bachelor of Arts degree requirements in foreign language courses may be earned through examination or class work, but must appear on the applicant’s official college transcript. See the section of the Texas A&M University Undergraduate Catalog pertaining to your major for the specific science requirement. Interdisciplinary Studies majors in the College of Education and Human Development may take ENGL 203 (ENGL 1302) rather than ENGL 210 (ENGL 2311). MATH 1325 is not acceptable as the mathematics prerequisite for medical or dental school. Students planning to apply for these professional programs should complete MATH 2413. All majors in the College of Science require MATH 151/152 (MATH 2413/2414) if transferring from another institution. Humanities for the College of Architecture are limited to arts or architecture courses. Environmental Geosciences majors in the College of Geosciences are not required to take PHYS 218 and 219. See the Texas A&M University Undergraduate Catalog pertaining to Environmental Geosciences for other science requirements. COMM 203 is not required for AgEconomics (AGEC) or Agribusiness (AGBU) majors. MGMT 211 is not required for Agricultural Economics (AGEC) majors. Formerly BUSI 2302, is no longer offered at most community colleges. Agricultural Economics (AGEC) majors fulfill this requirement by completing AGEC 105. The Dwight Look College of Engineering requires ENGR 482 Engineering and Ethics for all majors except Industrial Distribution (IDIL). GOVT 2301 and 2302 will satisfy the POLS 206 and POLS 207 requirements if transferred from the same school.
Agriculture & Life Sciences aglifesciences.tamu.edu Minimum GPR: Varies by major Second-Choice Majors Accepted: Varies by major Coursework Recommended/Required: Students should demonstrate academic excellence in courses identified in Table 1 of the degree track section. Application Tips: Discuss interest and career aspirations in essay. Research major of interest prior to applying Notes: Additional coursework may be selected from: ENGL 104, ENGL 203, ENGL 210, KINE 198, KINE 199, POLS 206, POLS 207, and history electives. Contact a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences departmental advisor for specific course recommendations.

The Program for Transfer Admission (PTA) offers students attending Texas community colleges a unique opportunity to be automatically admitted to Texas A&M under one of 65 degree plans. To see if you qualify for PTA, read below.
PTA: Guidelines for Participation
PTA: Securing admission to Texas A&M
Participants will be “grandfathered” into PTA under the degree plan which was in place when the student participation form was signed. Participants may only sign up for PTA once.
Complete at least 30 transferable hours after high school graduation at any Texas community college within three years from the date on which participation begins.
The most recent consecutive 30 transferable hours must be done in residence at one or more Texas community college. Participants may mix and match coursework from different Texas community colleges.
Complete all required paperwork and attend a mandatory academic meeting with a Texas A&M University admissions counselor.
There are no coursework substitutions.
Complete all program-specific coursework requirements from one of the PTA degree plans for the proposed major choice (tx.ag/ptainfo). Maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point ratio (including dual credit). Earn a grade of a “B” or better in all bold, italicized coursework specified in the degree plan. Submit all other required documents (application fee, transcripts, essay, etc.) by the appropriate deadline for admission to Texas A&M University.
Bold, italicized graded coursework in the degree plan may only be attempted once (excluding grades of W and WP). Participants are allowed a maximum of three withdrawals (W’s) throughout their community college career. If a participant earns a grade of a “C” or lower in the bold, italicized coursework (including dual credit), the participant will not be admitted via PTA but is still eligible for traditional transfer admission. Participants applying for fall admission may submit final spring grades by June 1, for consideration.

Not all Texas A&M colleges/majors are eligible for transfer admission through PTA. These include those listed above.
Meet with an admissions counselor and fill out a student participation form This form confirms intent to participate in PTA. It must be filled out completely and reviewed by an admissions counselor prior to beginning the program. An academic meeting with a Texas A&M admissions counselor is required to complete this step.
2 Complete your Major Coursework Check Sheet This is otherwise known as a degree plan. It includes specific coursework requirements that must be completed prior to applying for admission through PTA.
3 Have the PTA completion form signed This form signifies that the student has completed all requirements for automatic admission. Participants must have one final academic meeting with a Texas A&M admissions counselor where the counselor will sign the completion form, signifying that all requirements have been met. Admissions Processing will then verify coursework, GPR and other program requirements to secure the student’s admission.

Define your application type on the left, then review this page for important info regarding your application.
Tips for Applying Submit the application and required documents early in the application cycle. Check your application status online at applicant.tamu.edu. Allow 2-3 weeks to process each document. Verification of receipt is not guaranteed for applications submitted within 1 month of the deadline.
Plus and minus grade designations are not used; C+ is computed as a C, B- as a B, etc.
Credit by Examination Credit by examination courses taken at another college may transfer if sequential coursework with credit is also indicated. Credit by examination courses that are part of the applicant’s program of study at their previous institution will be awarded, provided they meet transfer guidelines. Coursework taken as credit-by-exam must be listed as a specific course on an official college transcript to be considered in the admissions process and for transfer of credit.
