WITH GRATITUDE ... A huge shout-out to the following organizations for providing us the opportunity to grow through the use of generous grant funds: Fr. Elias Stephanopoulos Memorial Fund: provided funds for our Upper and Lower Elementary visit to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Hellenic American Cultural Center and Museum. E.John and Cleo Rumpakis: provided funds to cover our Greek teacher’s salary for the second year in a row. AHEPA: sponsored our Orthodox Youth Cultural Exchange on Saturday April 28, 2018. Special thank you to Petros Bournelis and Tom Spathas for all your help. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund: funds received in 2016-17 to support field experiences were also carried over to this past year. We were able to bring the OMSI traveling program to our campus and provided bus transportation during our field trips to the Hellenic Museum and the Art Studio.

If leadership isn’t your style, there are many other volunteer opportunities within our school (grant writing committee, small reading groups with our students, lunch duty helper, teaching our children to bake prosfora or artoklassia for our May feast day, just to name a few) in which you can actively be part of our community! Contact Christina Blankenstein for more information. 971-238-4677 or christina@asapdx.org.

GROWING THE ST. BASIL SOCIETY

Spring 2018 saw the return of the Orthodox Youth Cultural Exchange after a 7-year hiatus. We hope to continue to organize this gathering on years were we do not have an ASA Gala.

This past December, we set a goal of increasing the number of monthly donors to our school. Knowing ahead of time how much we will receive each month is greatly beneficial in planning our budget. To promote this goal, we created the St. Basil Society - it does not matter how much you give to be a member; only that you have committed to giving every month to support our school. And, Glory to God, we have quadrupled the number of monthly donors. What an achievement! We invite YOU to join too! For more information about becoming part of our St. Basil Society, please contact our Development Director, Katherine Karafotias, at Katherine@asapdx.org or visit www.asapdx.org/support-asa.

GREEK OPEN Each September, we hold our annual Greek Open Golf Tournament and Brewfest with dinner & auction event. This year was another successful fundraiser earning approximately $12,600 towards our operating budget, and $7,000 for our tuition assistance fund. View event photos and get notification on future Greek Open events by following us on Facebook @greekopengolf. We’d like to extend a very special thank you to the Maletis Families, for once again hosting this special event at their beautiful Langdon Farms Golf Club.

WILD ABOUT EDUCATION We are wild about education at Agia Sophia Academy and are proud to announce that our 15th anniversary Gala will be held at the Oregon Zoo! The Gala Committee is also pleased to welcome our special guest, Hi Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos, who will be attending this year’s festivities. Mark June 1st, International Children’s Day, on your calendar to save the date for our special fundraiser. More information to come... so keep an eye on our website at www.asagala.org. PS: Contact Naomi Knight (naomi@asagala.org) to learn more about our gregarious sponsorship opportunities.
