It is a joy to greet you as you gather to support this beloved educational institution, now celebrating 13 years of educational excellence for children. Since its inception, the enrollment at Agia Sophia has doubled, not only demonstrating the success of this program, but the way in which students are nurtured in all aspects of learning and in the Orthodox faith. Your curriculum offers a wide range of academic areas from the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic, to the arts, physical education and the sciences. I know that proceeds from tonight’s Gala will especially benefit the expansion of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) which is so important for our children today. I encourage you to be generous in your support for this cause, knowing the positive impact it will have on the students as they continue their studies, eventually into high school, college and their professional careers. I regret that I am unable to be with you for a “Glorious Evening Under the Big Top”, but I know that this event will be a festive gathering of friends and family of Agia Sophia, and I pray that it will reap much success. I offer my congratulations to the Gala committee, the teachers, school board and all those who offer their time and talents for the benefit of Agia Sophia Academy. Beseeching the blessings of Our Resurrected Lord in all that you offer for His Glory, I remain,

Dear Friends of Agia Sophia Academy,
Dear Parents and Friends of Agia Sophia Academy,
Christ is Risen! A warm welcome to all of you! Tonight, we celebrate the beautiful impact of Orthodox education on our community and in our students’ lives. We join together in expanding the mission that we hold dear to our hearts at Agia Sophia Academy, to bring truth, beauty, and goodness into the world through our children.
It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to our fourth auction and gala, A Glorious Evening Under the Big Top. I am extremely excited to celebrate another year of Orthodox education!
Over the past thirteen years, our school body has grown and we have developed a rich academic and arts curriculum. Thanks to your support, we have distinguished programs in the languages and arts, and are proud to offer our students a curriculum that is holistic and challenging. This spring, we invite you to partner with us by supporting our STEM curriculum, as we focus on future science and technology goals! We are preparing well-rounded students for success in the 21st century, and aim to properly equip them with strong backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We are paving the way today for tomorrow’s innovators! Whether you have been with us from the beginning, or whether you are joining us now, your participation helps to shape ASA into a strong, vibrant, and loving community where children learn and thrive. Thank you for being a vital part of our legacy and our future! Our students, alumni, teachers, and parents are all affected deeply by your generosity and kindness. Tonight we make a toast to you, our incredible community of supporters!
Preparing, planning, and organizing ASA’s major fundraising event has been a true blessing. Throughout all the time and effort I have put into making this evening fruitful, the one thing I have learned is how kind, generous, and spiritually minded each one of you are. You have offered not only your time, but your talent, your advice, and your personal resources in order to make this entire evening possible. In short, this wonderful evening could not happen without you. My heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every one of you. The proceeds from tonight’s Special Appeal will help to fund Agia Sophia’s growing STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). These subjects continue to be a strong academic focus at ASA as part of our holistic education. Through our generous sponsors, the majority of the funds raised here tonight will go towards the building fund and the Special Appeal focus. Enjoy tonight’s festivities – the food, the fun, the music, and the fundraising. Raise your paddles high and have a glorious evening! Gratefully,
With sincere gratitude, Naomi Knight Gala Chair Ranae Rice Christina Blankenstein Principal Development Associate

FAQ ’ s What is the Wine Toss? Everyone’s a Winner! Grand prize bottles worth over $100. During the Silent Auction, for only $25, you may play our wine toss game. Toss a ring around a bottle and take it home with you! Play until you win! Over 40 bottles of wine up for grabs: values range from $10 to $125. Tonight’s wine generously donated by Agia Sophia Academy’s Board, families, and friends
What is the Green Line Raffle? You’ll notice the green lines on the Silent Auction bidder sheets. This is the line that you want YOUR bidder number on. Every green line bidder, whether they are the package winner or not, will be entered to a raffle for a two night stay in a Deluxe Riverfront Suite at the Shilo Inn in Bend, Oregon. The Shilo Inn is nestled on the banks of the Deschutes River, located in central Oregon. Bend is a fantastic outdoor-lovers destination! There are plenty of activates, in summer, fall, and winter, to keep all members of your family happy and entertained. The value of this prize package is $350. If someone outbids you for that Silent Auction item, no worries! You are still entered into the drawing. If you definitely want to take that item home with you, simply place your bidder number on the Green Line and the “Buy It Now” line. That way you’re guaranteed to take that item home AND still have the opportunity to win this exciting hotel stay!
What is the Heads or Tails Game? Heads or Tails is an exciting game where the winner will take home a cash prize. Anyone who wants to play must purchase at least one strand of Mardi Gras beads before we begin. When the game starts, the Auctioneer will ask everyone who’s playing to stand up. He will then ask you to place your hand on your head OR your tail (your bottom). He will flip a coin and if it lands on your choice, you’ll keep your beads and you’re still in the game; if not, you’ll remove a strand of beads. Each strand is an opportunity to play the game.
The last person standing, with at least one strand of beads, is our winner! Good luck!

Classroom Art Projects Montessori This sweet butterfly art project was completed by our 3-6 year old Montessori classroom. The children loved exploring colors and mixing artist grade acrylic paint as they prepared these 25 butterflies on watercolor paper. They used a variety of application techniques: brushes, sponges, and even forks! This beautiful project is framed in a 16”x20”x3.5” white shadow-box frame. This lovingly crafted piece will grace any room of your house.
Lower Elementary What do you get when you combine 6-8 years, 13 pairs of nitrile gloves, clothes staining alcohol inks, 20 tiles and a plain wooden table? You get this brilliant classroom art project: colorful, marbled, tile top table – 20” square and 18” high – plus four matching coasters. This would be a fun addition to your family room or the kids’ play room.
Upper Elementary The children had a blast making this “Tree of Love” using high quality no-acid paper. With acrylic paint, each child designed four, creatively decorated circles which were brought together to create a magnificent backdrop for this artwork. Look closely to see what the children wrote and their personal touches on each circle. This is a great statement piece to showcase the children’s creativity in your home.
All School All of the students contributed to create this fun and functional art project. They each eagerly dipped their fingertips into paint and pressed them into the bowl and pitcher. These colorful fingerprints were then transformed into a bouquet of flowers attracting buzzing bees! Student names are printed on the bottom of these pieces. This unique set will be enjoyed for years to come.

Hand Written Icon Iconography (or “icon writing”) is one of the most beautiful practices in the Orthodox Church. By representing our Incarnate Lord and the saints, we can surround ourselves with “so great cloud of witnesses.” While modern technology allows for mass reproduction of icons, in no way can it replace the sacredness of an icon written in prayer and accordance with the history and canon of the Orthodox Church. Whether this will be your first icon or your 100th, it will bless your home or make an extraordinary gift. You will choose the Saint or Feast Day you want commemorated. The iconographer is a dedicated Romanian woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, but has dedicated herself to helping restore and complete new churches and monasteries in her home country. She writes in a traditional Byzantine style with an underlying Romanian feel.
Package Details: • Select a Saint or Feast by June 1st, 2017 • Please allow until December 2017 for delivery • Icon size is approximately 11.5” x 16”
