Hello 2022! I'm not sure if 2021 turned out exactly as I expected. I am looking forward to 2022, though. I'm a big fan of building on past successes.

Successes build positive momentum; it doesn't matter if it's in sports or communities or in life.

One of the things I'm reminded of is that momentum is a powerful force. It is generally easy to keep going if it's going your way. But, if it's not going your way, it's hard to stop.

When I was a kid, my family went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I remember a 2.5-ton lead wheel there that even as a kid, I could grip the handle and get it moving. But, once it was going, it would almost break my wrists when trying to get it to stop.

It has taken a while to regain the momentum that COVID brought to a halt for many small businesses.

Many of you have focused on shopping small for the last several months. Hopefully, coming off the holiday season, these mom-and-pop businesses are experiencing the feeling that things are going their way.

You are encouraged to continue to shop small in 2022 and help your community build on its successes.

You and your community will continue to thrive as successes become more and more frequent.

I wish you a healthy and prosperous New Year.
