KUHN has launched a new high capacity trailed sprayer. The new LEXIS 3800 with a 3800 litre nominal capacity is the largest in the range, with two further models offering 2400 litre and 3000 litre capacities respectively.
The LEXIS is compact and lightweight despite its ability to carry 4000 litres. It has a maximum length of 6.90 metres and an overall width of 2.55 metres. Featuring aluminium booms up to 28 metres, the LEXIS still has an unladen weight of just over 3 tonnes. The latest model also features new Ø1.85m tyres with a very high flexion (VF) option from 320 to 520mm which will help to reduce compaction and protect soil health.
The LEXIS can be specified with KUHN’s MANUSET manual rinse operation which only requires two main valves that are controlled from the operator's control station. Multifunction handwheels reduce handling operations
by up to 50 percent and the ergonomic design means valves are easily operated for a simple, trouble-free set-up.
residual volumes.
Spraying with the LEXIS can be operated using KUHN’s CANBUS control box, a CCI 800 or 1200, or any other ISOBUS terminal.
During rinsing, a complete turn with the delivery circuit handwheel ensures that the water drawn in by the pump is conveyed into all sprayer circuits. The rinsing tank level gauge, visible from the workstation, also enables easy sequencing of the rinsing operations.
The new LEXIS is also available with DILUSET+ which offers operators assisted management of filling and dilution of
The LEXIS is stable and manoeuvrable because the shape of its tank has lowered the centre of gravity. This improves stability, even with a reduced track width of 1.50m or when spraying on gradients. The short tow eye-axle distance of 4.30m coupled with the TRACK ASSIST gyroscopic steering drawbar system also improves tracking in the tractor wheels. The LEXIS can be fitted with CCE individual nozzle control, AUTOSPRAY PWM technology or the BOOM ASSIST EXTREME contour control system. KUHN’s CCI Connect solutions and MyKUHN portal also provide remote access to the machine and feedback on the tasks performed to harness valuable operational and application data.

Modern painting line goes into operation. The second hall was officially opened at the new rake and baler plant on 15th April.
On 14 April 2023, the second hall was officially opened at the new rake and baler plant in St. Georgen near Grieskirchen (AT). Following almost 1.5 years of construction, the agricultural machinery manufacturer PÖTTINGER has started up a modern cathodic dip priming (CDP) and powder coating line in this second expansion phase.
With an investment of EUR 25 million, the first expansion phase of the St. Georgen plant was completed and production began in June 2021. The good order situation, combined with a large number of new products and the resulting need for increased capacity made the next step necessary: an additional hall for a sustainable priming and coating line. The additional building with an area of 7,900 m2 including the new paint shop represents an investment volume of approximately EUR 33 million. The total production area has therefore been more than doubled.
The new priming and coating line now gives the parts for rakes and round balers their colourful coat of paint.
These parts were previously delivered from the painting line at the headquarters in Grieskirchen. In addition, state-of-the-art methods attract contract orders from external firms requiring highquality coatings. Industrial customers in particular, who have the same high corrosion protection specifications as PÖTTINGER, are impressed. Thanks to the advanced layout of the paint line, orders can be carried out in black CDP with high wall thicknesses and heavy unit weights. The maximum suspended load is 1,200 kg.
The automotive quality paint finish using cathodic dip priming (CDP) and powder coating is an environmentally friendly process. No solvent is used in the mixing and application of the coatings. The painting process achieves excellent hardness and therefore a longer service life. PÖTTINGER brings together an environmentally friendly painting processes with sustainability.
"The finish of the paintwork also plays a major role in ensuring the high quality expected from our machines. The impact-resistant coating lasts the lifetime of the
product. This was one of the reasons why we also invested in a painting line at this location," emphasises Gregor Dietachmayr, Speaker of the Executive Board, on this expansion phase.
As a family business, PÖTTINGER feels responsibility towards people and the environment. In addition to the sustainability aspects of building the new production hall (generous use of wood, green roof, PV system, reuse of residual heat, etc.), the design of the coating process also respects the highest possible conservation of resources and the environment.
The new building has also created further added value in the region. In addition to the approximately 60 employees assembling IMPRESS round balers, large TOP rakes and MERGENTO mergers, around another 50 people will find jobs here in a modern and ergonomically designed workplace.
The management team always keeps an eye on business developments and as a result is already planning the next expansion phases.
Thousands of JCB employees are gearing up for a right Royal celebration to mark the Coronation of HM King Charles lll & HM Queen Camilla
Thousands of JCB employees are gearing up for a right Royal celebration to mark the Coronation of HM King Charles III and HM Queen Camilla – with a companywide ‘street party’.
JCB is treating more than 5,500 employees at all its UK factories to a two-course celebration lunch next week. The ‘Big Coronation Lunch’ is being staged at the company’s plants in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Wrexham where breaks are being extended to allow the historic occasion to be marked in style.
JCB Chairman Lord Bamford said: “The Coronation really is a momentous event in our country’s history and an opportunity for all of us to come together and mark it as a team in traditional street party style.”
Factory restaurants are being decked out with red, white and blue bunting and balloons ready for classic British cuisine to be served on traditional street party trestle tables. Employees will tuck into fish and chips, sausage and mash, a special Coronation Chicken pie or enjoy a special afternoon tea. A regal fruit crumble and trifle will be offered as dessert.
Qazi Mustafa, aged 18,
from Derby, is a technician apprentice currently working at World HQ in Rocester, Staffs. He said: “It’s good that JCB is marking the occasion – it is a big change in history after all. I’m looking forward to going to the lunch – it will be a nice change. It’s good to celebrate with colleagues.”
Toolmaker apprentice Jimmy Hopkinson, aged 17, from Cheadle, Staffs, who also works at the World HQ, said: “I will be celebrating the Coronation at home, but it’s great to get the chance to celebrate it at work as well.”
Business degree apprentice Rebecca Brooks, aged 20, from Ipstones, near Leek, Staffs, who is based at the JCB World HQ, said: “It is a very generous act by Lord Bamford and JCB to put on the lunch, and really appreciated across the workforce. I think it will be a great way to kickstart celebrations for the week. There will be a great atmosphere when we all come together.”
Ella Taylor, aged 19, from Stafford, a Material Planner at JCB Power Products, in Hixon, near Stafford, said: “It is good of JCB to show its support for the Coronation and dedicate time for the employees celebrate.”
Sean Tucker, 20, of Rocester,
Staffs, is a welder at JCB Cab Systems in Uttoxeter. He said: “The Big Coronation Lunches are a fantastic idea – it will be great to get together with my colleagues to celebrate the memorable occasion. It’s brilliant that the food on offer will be traditionally British - I’m going to go for the fish and chips!”
Libby Hodge, 18, of Uttoxeter, is a JCB Purchasing apprentice. She said: “It’s really nice that JCB has decided to enable everyone to celebrate together. It’s a great opportunity for us all to enjoy the fun atmosphere on the run-up to the big day. I remember enjoying a street party for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – this will be a chance to get in the mood again, with the extra bonus of having the Monday off.”
Carol Williams, General Manager for JCB’s catering contractor Elior, said: “This really will be a royal celebration to remember. Not surprisingly, given it’s a very British occasion, more than half of those attending have selected fish and chips for their main course!”
Over the course of the fourday street party, the team will prepare and serve almost one tonne of potatoes, 172 kgs of chicken, 293 kgs of fish, and 125 kgs of sausage.

Kuhn Farm Machinery has chosen Cereals to display two Aero machines, the 32.1 and GT 60.1 alongside others
KUHN Farm Machinery has chosen Cereals to display two Aero machines, the 32.1 and GT 60.1 alongside the 12 metre Optimer L12000 disc cultivator and Multi-Leader XT plough. The LEXIS 3000 trailed sprayer will also be on show in the demonstration arena.
“This year we are hoping to show Cereals visitors the strength in depth KUHN has in the arable sector. In addition to the cultivation machinery, we will also have a range of drills, a Striger 600R strip till machine, and a selection of balers,” says KUHN’s Edd Fanshawe.
The Optimer L is designed for high quality shallow cultivation at operating speeds of 13 to 18km/hour. With a working depth range from 3 to 10cm, it is sufficiently versatile to fulfil a range of roles including enhanced crop residue management, stale seedbed creation and fine seedbed preparation.
Two rows of 510mm diameter discs operate with high rotation speeds and are set at 16˚ horizontal and 6˚ vertical for optimum tilth creation. Discs are available with small notches (for shallow cultivation) or large notches (for deeper soil
penetration) and are mounted individually on support arms with each having four integral polyurethane elastomeric blocks to provide protection and depth control. Each disc has a single maintenancefree bearing on the outer side, which – along with an underframe clearance of 55cm – ensures clear flow of residues through the machine and prevents disruptions due to jamming.
Working depth on the Optimer L is hydraulically assisted, allowing simple and accurate adjustments to be made. This is maintained across the full width of the machine through hydraulically controlled pressure on the extension cylinders (KUHN’s Steady Control system).
The Optimer L is fitted with KUHN’s Double-U selfcleaning and anti-clogging roller, designed to provide optimum soil tamping. By turning on the roller at the headlands, the machine maintains stability and minimises any risk of soil compaction in these areas.
Folding through a safe and secure four step process, activated by a mode switch on the control panel, allows a compact transport position (3m width, 4m height). This control panel also includes an operating depth indicator and
an extension position guide. A tractor in a field

KUHN AERO GT BOOM SPREADER
The Aero GT 60.1 is a trailed pneumatic boom spreader available with working widths up to 36 metres.
The Aero GT optimises application rates with a bigger air intake and larger capacity pipes. For example, when spreading urea to 36 metres, application rates of up to 250kg/ha are possible for the Aero GT when travelling at 15kph.
The Aero GT metering system incorporates six individual units that can be shut off independently when using automatic section control (KUHN MULTIRATE 6). When used in combination with a variable rate map, each individual unit can also apply a different fertiliser rate. The possibility of applying a different application rate every six metres across the width of the machine is ideally suited to those farmers who are looking to maximise the control of their inputs.
Fend has announced a new partnership with dealership Arwel’s Agri Services based near Lampeter, mid-Wales.
The Royal Highland Show will be the first event in the UK that visitors can see the new Fendt Corus 500 straw walker combine harvester. The entry level model sits in the up to 260 horsepower segment and the range includes nine five-straw walker models with working widths up to 7.6 metres.
“Scotland has always been an important market for our combines so it is fitting that the first opportunity for operators to see the new model will be at this years’ Royal Highland Show,” says Fendt’s Richard Miller. The Corus range offers power outputs of 185-260 horsepower from a 4- or
6-cylinder engine, with all models benefiting from a new electro-hydrostatic drive. The new machines feature an ergonomic joystick connected to the armrest, panoramic windscreen, and an onboard computer with two optional cameras for an improved view.
“We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to see this machine and many others on our stand. This year we will also have the latest Rogator 600 MY23, Cargo T740 loader with its elevating cab, and a variety of tractors including the new 728 Gen 7 which was launched earlier this year,” he adds.
The latest 728 Vario Gen 7 tractor will be on show in Scotland for the first time. Further tractors, including the latest 900 and 300 Vario will also be on the stand to demonstrate Fendt’s strength in depth.
“The new Gen 7 700 series tractors are available for preorder and demand is already proving encouraging. We are excited to bring the 728 Vario to Scotland to offer operators a chance to see it firsthand and speak to our product specialists about how it can drive efficiencies on their farm,” he says.
The first made-in-Wales strategy to tackle wildlife and rural crime was launched this week at the Royal Welsh Showground
The first made-in-Wales strategy to tackle wildlife and rural crime was launched this week at the Royal Welsh Showground.
Wildlife and rural crime can come in many forms such as the theft of agricultural equipment, devastating livestock offences and the destruction of wildlife and their habitats. Rural theft alone was valued to cost £1.3m in 2021.
The joint strategy, between the Welsh Government and Wales’ four police forces, will be key in the fight against such offences.
A co-ordinated and strategic approach will be central to the success of the strategy which is being launched.

In 2021, Rob Taylor was appointed Wales’ Rural and Wildlife Crime Coordinator, the first role of its kind in
the UK, and he will lead on facilitating the strategy. Rob Taylor said: “Rural and wildlife crime can have a devastating impact, affecting rural communities, farmers, wildlife as well as habitats and our heritage.
“The launch of this first ever made-in-Wales strategy to integrate rural and wildlife crime, will be vital in bringing Welsh Government, police forces and partners together alongside my role as coordinator to tackle such offences.”
Amongst the objectives of the strategy are:
Working in partnership to reduce crime and protect rural communities and wildlife; Develop effective networks to share ideas, best practice, and resources;
Improve the knowledge and skills needed to support victims affected by crime in rural areas especially those most vulnerable; Provide training and opportunities to develop skills in a broad range of wildlife and rural crime issues, maximising use of partner agencies; Improve data collection and information sharing among partners and enforcement
agencies; Use technology and innovation to protect rural communities and wildlife. The strategy has been tailored to Wales’ needs and will be delivered through six priority groups – Bird Crime; Farm Crime; Habitats; Mammals and European Protected Species; Welsh Police Rural Supervisors; and Mental Health and Domestic Abuse.
Rob Taylor added: “The strategy has clear aims including supporting mental health in our rural communities and addressing domestic abuse.
“We will follow the 4P plan to achieve success – prepare, prevent, pursue and protect. This means preparing for when such crimes might occur, preventing and deterring people from engaging in these offences, relentlessly pursue offenders and protect rural communities and wildlife from the impact of crime.”
Rural Affairs Minister, Lesley Griffiths said: “The launch of this strategy is a big step forward in tackling rural and wildlife crime in Wales. A key theme of this is partnership working and only by working together towards our common goal can we succeed.

Fendt will focus on new technology and new models at Cereals on june 13th & 14th to demonstrate a data driven advantage
Fendt will focus on new technology and new models at Cereals on June 13th and 14th to demonstrate how its machines provide operators with a data driven advantage. It will also be the first time for an arable audience to see the new 700 Vario Gen 7 tractor which was launched earlier this year.
The 700 series Vario will be accompanied by models either side of the horsepower range, with the latest Gen 3 500 series and Gen 7 900 series also featuring on the stand. Fendt’s Richard Miller commented:
“This will be an excellent opportunity for customers old and new to see the latest tractors. The Fendt stand
will also include the latest Rogator 600 MY23 selfpropelled sprayer, the IDEAL combine, and the innovative Cargo T740 with its elevating cab.”
Connecting all the latest Fendt machinery is the FendtONE onboard/offboard operating concept. The, now familiar, Fendt cab uses the operating system to make data collected by machines easier to share, both between Fendt machines and with farm management systems.
“FendtONE facilitates data driven farming to offer operators and farm managers the ability to optimise machinery and operator hours, by programming tractors,
sprayers and combines to share data,” he adds.
In the cab, FendtONE sees three terminals available in every Fendt tractor whilst software on a desktop or mobile device interprets data from tractors in the fleet in real time. This can help to reduce fuel usage and downtime whilst improving the productivity of the tractors and other machinery.
“Data is driving arable farming to be more automated, efficient, and productive. Fendt has met the challenges of arable farming head on by providing the most efficient machines with technology that can harness and take advantage of data,” concludes Mr Miller.
Tractors have a rather long working life, the duration of which depends on many factors, primarily the level of maintenance and the hours the machine has been in the field. We have talked about the great value of maintenance in several articles. It is essential to take good care of your vehicle, both for better quality and safety of work and so that you do not end up changing parts or having to buy a new model much sooner than expected. That’s why Landini has created Scheduled Maintenance Programmes, designed for the well-being of the machine, the farmer and the business, with a dedicated Landini team
and guaranteed service, for a tractor that always works at high performance.
Added to this is a statistic that is extremely variable depending on the history of the company using the tractor: the hours the tractor has actually worked in the field. As an example, a modern tractor has an average life of 15,000 hours, which is supposed to be completed in 10-15 years. This has changed a lot in the last 20 years, which is why today you can see very different machines
within the same fleet, modern tractors and vehicles that are 30 to 40 years old but still operate well.
This is because for a long time the agricultural sector has been characterised by a high ageing rate and only in recent years has it caught up with other sectors by innovating technology on machines and halving their weight. The target audience has also changed, seeing fewer and fewer small companies in favour of more structured agricultural businesses, with greater demands for state-of-the-art machinery fleets.
A County Durham man has been sentenced to suspended jail time for repeatedly storing and burning waste
ACounty Durham man has been sentenced to suspended jail time for repeatedly storing and burning waste in a prosecution brought by the Environment Agency.
Christopher Williams, 64, of Acton Dene in Stanley, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 18 April where he pleaded guilty to two charges of operating an illegal waste site and one of not complying with an Environment Agency notice to provide information about waste disposal.
Prosecuting on behalf of the Environment Agency, Chris Bunting told the court that Williams dumped and burnt waste on a smallholding at School House Farm in Kiln Pitt Hill, near the A68 and Derwent Reservoir.
He was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs.
The land was not authorised for any waste activities and the court heard that it would be very unlikely that a waste operation would be allowed at that location.

Advice and law ‘deliberately disregarded’
Andrew Turner, Area Environment Manager for the Environment Agency in the North East, said: Environmental permits are in place for the protection of the public and environment and waste crime such as this – burning waste like plastics and treated wood that produces a toxic smoke –can be extremely damaging.
Our officers repeatedly told Williams to stop burning waste and clear it from the land but he deliberately disregarded their advice and the law.
We take all waste crime seriously and I hope this sentence sends out a message to others that we will take tough action against those who flout the rules. People can report waste crime to our 24-hour hotline on 0800 807060.

Williams operates an organisation known as the LCA Community Charity, which provides help to people, schools and other charities with clothing and furniture, and offers house and shop clearance services. However, the court heard that Williams regularly dumped and burned residual waste from those activities at the smallholding.
In March 2020, the Environment Agency received a report of burning on land at School House Farm. Officers attended and saw mixed construction and household waste, including a metal garage door, plastic guttering, wood, a shopping trolly and a fridge. They also saw evidence of burning, with a one-metre high pile of ash.
Officers instructed Williams to stop the fires and clear the remaining waste from the land, but checks at the end of May revealed more waste had been dumped with nearby piles of ash from fires.
Williams said no further burning would take place and he would clear the site of waste and at the end of August 2020 the site was largely cleared.
Fertiliser prices continue to remain high, which makes it ever more important to ensure accurate application of fertilisers again this season. Think about all of the factors that affect spreading, weather and field conditions, operator training and making best use of the technology available all have an impact on accuracy, but with time constraints some of these aspects may get overlooked.
accurately your machine is set up.
Knowing your machine is in good condition and set up correctly is a good starting point and something that can be easily managed both before and during spreading operations.
cases is achievable.
Having a correctly set up machine will also help you meet obligations to protect the environment. NVZ rules and Farming Rules for Water requires farmers to apply fertiliser as accurately as possible to reduce the risk of pollution. Including a border spreading check when having a spreader tested will help meet these requirements, especially when spreading near watercourses.
Advice from AHDB last year suggested in some cases a 20% reduction from RB209 recommended rates for machines not set up accurately. With prevailing high prices this year, and perhaps without the benefit of having some fertiliser left in the shed from 2021 when prices were much cheaper, this should be considered if you don’t know how
Included as part of an NSTS spreader test is a check over the whole machine, paying close attention to the condition of the vanes and agitators. Each product is tested for weight, size and hardness to allow an accurate comparison against manufacturers recommendations for setting up a machine, and adjusted accordingly.
Trays are then laid out across the full width of spread to gain a figure for coefficient of variation (CV). A result of a CV less than 10% is aimed for and in most
For further information, contact NSTS, or go to the website, www. nsts.org.uk where you can search for a Test Centre near you and arrange a test on your machine to ensure it is applying all your fertiliser products on target and evenly across the field.
Transport and machinery are the biggest contributor to the high fatality rate the agriculture endures
Transport and machinery are the biggest contributor to the high fatality rate that agriculture endures. Here are some simple ways you can reduce the risk and keep you, and others, safe.
One of the easiest ways of keeping yourself safe is by ensuring all the equipment you require is properly maintained and therefore suitable for the intended tasks. This can apply to any piece of equipment you run, for instance tractors, trailers, ATVs, towed appliances, farm vehicles, handheld machines etc.
By completing daily checks before commencing use of the machine or vehicle, you are more likely to notice any possible defects that could prevent the task being carried out safely.
In addition to this, regular maintenance checks completed by a dealership are also recommended to ensure any defects that are not highlighted on daily checks are addressed. This can ensure that small issues are repaired before they escalate and have a bigger financial and safety impact.
Maintenance. Why you should care.
Ensuring your machines and transport are well maintained will also ensure it is running efficiently and therefore likely to reduce long term costs associated with the machine, while also having the potential to increase its longevity.
A well-maintained vehicle or machine is more likely to be complaint with what is considered roadworthy. As such, if an incident should occur (that is not your fault), you are likely to be in a more favourable position if your vehicle or machine is well maintained.

Tributes paid to John Harrison
Tributes have been paid to John Harrison, who died in April, after a lifetime in the poultry industry..
He was born in 1935, and after school, he worked for hatchery business Thornber, where he rose thought the ranks, maintaining a lifelong friendship with the founder’s grandson Ralph Thornber. After the company’s demise in the late 1960s, Harrison set up Mytholmroyd Hatcheries, to offer hatching to any company outgrowing their own hatchery capacities in a rapidly growing broiler industry.
He later also started his own company called Pneutrans, making egg handling machinery to ease the job of transferring into the hatchers, plus offering other pneumatic aids for handling eggs. These sold around the work and he regularly exhibited his products at the poultry shows in Atlanta and the Pig & Poultry Fair at Stoneleigh.
He was also a director of Avian Techniques, and exported broiler chicks and layer chicks to Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Yemen and Kuwait, travelling around the world with the chicks to ensure their safe arrival. After retirement, he continued to stay involved with the poultry industry and also enjoyed going on cruises around the USA and Canada. There will be a gathering for a celebration of John’s life at Heptonstall Bowling club on May 24 at 2pm.
With the UK experiencing some of the highest rates of disease since records began, British farmers are grappling with momentous challenges.
With the UK experiencing some of the highest rates of disease since records began – from bird flu already being here to deadly African swine fever at our doorstep – British farmers are grappling with momentous challenges. To help them defend against disease incursion and protect their livestock and livelihoods, biosecurity, and disease prevention experts, Livetec have developed a new Biosecurity Advisory Service.
Cases of avian influenza have increased at a startling rate this season compared to five years ago, with over 170 cases of H5N1 being reported across the UK since the 1st October 2022.
Chief Veterinary Officer, Christine Middlemiss said of avian influenza that “Implementing scrupulous biosecurity has never been more critical. You must regularly clean and disinfect your footwear and clothes before entering enclosures, stop your birds mixing with any wild birds and only allow visitors that are strictly necessary. It is your actions that will help keep your birds safe.”
Taking place over the course of a one-day onfarm visit, the Biosecurity Advisory Service sees a Livetec expert conducting a thorough assessment of the farm’s biosecurity measures. Practical, informative and helpful, the advisor will highlight areas that may need improving, and advise the farmer on how to do so with advanced, evidencebased solutions.
The comprehensive service includes a complete business overview, including assessment findings and recommendations, a review of the current measures in place and critical data collection, farm-mapping, the identification of issues and the solutions advised, as well as defined onfarm processes and recommended protocols.
The team at Livetec, said: “British farming is in uncharted waters at the moment, with unprecedented outbreaks of avian flu across the UK and persistent threats from other diseases all converging on farmers that have already
been pushed to breaking point by rising energy, feed and fertiliser costs.
“Strong biosecurity measures are the first and strongest line of defence against costly, disruptive and potentially deadly disease outbreaks. Our new Advisory Service is designed to be accessible, affordable and helpful with an expert assessment, practical advice and implementation support to raise the bar against disease outbreaks.”
Founded in 2010, Livetec is building the future of biosecurity. Livetec specialises in on-farm, bespoke disease prevention solutions to support farmers as they develop proactive strategies to protect their livestock and livelihoods. For more than a decade, Livetec has collaborated with farmers facing a diverse range of challenges and partnered with leading academic institutions and other commercial and industry bodies to further evidence-based research into biosecurity.
The prices of food rose at the fastest rate in more than 45 years in the 12 months to March 2023
The prices of food rose at the fastest rate in more than 45 years in the 12 months to March 2023.
According to new data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the annual inflation rate in this category was 19.2%, up from 18.2% in the year to February 2023.
The largest contributor to the rise in food inflation was bread and cereals, for which average prices rose by 19.4% in the year to March 2023.
Prices are also rising in restaurants and cafés, where the annual inflation
rate was 10.4% in the year to March 2023, although that was down slightly from 11.4% in February 2023.
As the cost of food continues to rise, half of adults in Great Britain are buying less food when food shopping, according to the ONS’s latest social trends survey.
When asked between 22 March and 2 April 2023, 51% of adults reported buying less food in the previous two weeks.
The survey also reveals around one in four adults (26%) experienced shortages of essential food items in the past two weeks.
This was similar to 27% in the previous period (22 February to 5 March 2023) but well above the 16% recorded during a similar period a year earlier (3 to 13 March 2022).
When asked what actions they were taking to save money on food, over half of adults said they were buying cheaper food (53%), around one in four were buying more tinned or longer shelflife food (26%), and around one in five were eating food past its use-by date (21%).

Alan McCracken
ATV Services and Roberts Rural are the latest dealers to join the Corvus Off-Road Vehicles dealer network. The announcement comes from BOSS ORV, the sole UK distributor of the Corvus UTV range. Allan McCracken started his business twenty-eight years ago following working for another Yamaha dealer. Based in Castle Douglas, the dealership offers sales and service of ATV’s, walk-behind and ride-on mowers in a thirty-mile radius of the 18th century market town.
“We’re delighted to welcome Allan McCracken and his team as our latest dealership appointment in Scotland,” says Phil Everett, BOSS ORV’s Managing Director. “I have known Alan for over twenty-five years and the quality of service he provides is second to none. I’m looking forward to working with Alan again and developing the Corvus brand in this part of South
West Scotland.” The dealership is well known in the region for selling ATV’s but until now had no off-road utility vehicle offering. The Corvus, Alan says, is ideal for the area and he is pleased to put his name behind a such reputable manufacturer.
Chard in Somerset is the home of Roberts Rural, who has become the authorised Corvus dealer of the area. A familyrun business covering the southwest they supply new and used UTV’s including the new Corvus electric
EX4, diesel and petrol range.
“Welcome to Roberts Rural as our new dealer in Somerset,” says Phil Everett. “It’s great to have John Parry and Ed Cousins on board and we’re looking forward to working with them in this important region.” Roberts Rural provides machinery and parts sales, servicing and maintenance to a range of business sectors including Local Authorities, forestry,
groundscare, agriculture, equine and game keeping.
They will provide Corvus with coverage across Somerset, Devon and Dorset.

New-Look Isuzu D-Max maintains award-winning 4x4 expertise with significant cosmetic enhancements.
New-Look Isuzu D-Max maintains awardwinning 4x4 expertise with significant cosmetic enhancements
The Range has a refreshed front grille, new wheels, new colours and new interior designs
18th April 2023 – Isuzu UK is set to unveil the New-Look Isuzu D-Max during this year’s Commercial Vehicle show, located at the NEC in Birmingham between the 18th and 20th of April.
The New-Look Isuzu D-Max range maintains the awardwinning 4x4 expertise that has earned the Isuzu D-Max significant critical praise, with the alterations for the 2023 model being primarily cosmetic. Although there have been no technical modifications to the revamped range, each trim level has received significant visual enhancements, most notably a freshly styled front grille and new wheel designs for the vehicles. While every pick-up in the range has implemented the refreshed grille, only the All-Purpose and Adventure models have received the new wheels, with the Business range keeping the practical and durable steel wheels which have become a staple of the Isuzu D-Max Utility model.
In addition to the revised front grille and wheel designs, the introduction of two new colours is also a key feature of the New-Look Isuzu D-Max models, with the new Dolomite White replacing Pearl White, and Biarritz Blue replacing Sapphire Blue. The Biarritz Blue metallic paint finish will be available for both Isuzu D-Max DL40 and V-Cross models, while the Dolomite White pearlescent will be exclusive to the rangetopping V-Cross.
On the interior of the vehicles, there have also been some modifications. Although the hard-wearing cloth interior of the Business range models has remained unchanged, the Isuzu D-Max DL20 seats are covered in a more premium woven fabric with a refreshed design. Moving up the range, both the DL40 and V-Cross have been upgraded thanks to the newly designed leather upholstery, utilising horizontal layering for a more spacious feel.
A rear-differential lock option is also now available on all manual 4x4 Utility models in the range. This feature was made available for the 2022 Isuzu D-Max pick-ups and is continuing with the NewLook Isuzu D-Max.
Alan Able, Isuzu UK’s Managing Director, commented on the updated range: “As a brand, we are always striving for improvement and the NewLook Isuzu D-Max is a testament to that. While maintaining our awardwinning 4x4 expertise, we have added some significant visual enhancements and new features to elevate the driving experience for our customers. We are taking a step further into the lifestyle sector thanks to this new look, without suffering any compromise to the D-Max’s workhorse heritage and capability. It’s the same substance, with a different style.”
