Gli Show di Halter stanno diventando molto famosi in Iran, specialmente da quando hanno aderito all’ECAHO nel 2008, a seguito di una serie di norme che hanno reso più interessante per gli allevatori la competizione dei loro cavalli in show. Vi è un altro motivo di questa crescente popolarità: la presenza di cavalli importanti. Per molti anni ci sono state alcune restrizioni relative alle importazioni e l’Iran sta inoltre affrontando alcuni problemi per la quarantena dei cavalli, ciò ha reso impossibile portarli fuori dal proprio Paese pertanto gli allevatori Iraniani non avevano i mezzi per confrontare le razze locali con quelle Internazionali. Negli ultimi due Show, il Campionato Nazionale C a Yazd e quello Nazionale a Tehran, la competizione è stata aperta a

Halter shows are becoming very popular in Iran, especially since its adherence to ECAHO in 2008, following a set of rules has made it more appealing for breeders to compete with their horses in the show ring. There is also another reason for this growing popularity: the presence of foreign bred horses. For many years, there were some restrictions concerning imports and as Iran is also facing some problems with the quarantine of horses, making it impossible to bring out horses from our country, the Iranian breeder had no means to compare the local bred with the International bred horses. On the last 2 shows, the National C in Yazd and the National championship in Tehran, competition was open to all horses admitted in the Iranian studbook.

The much awaited National Championship was organized by the show committee of the National Equestrian Federation. The number of attendees was unprecedented and it was one of the largest Arabian shows ever held in Tehran with over 120 entries marking a very significant increase compare to the past. The show was held on the 17th and 18th of June, in a very attractive Equestrian facility situated in Kordan, 45 km from Tehran belonging to a private breeder, Mr. Ali Reza Pourheidari, owner of the finest Arabian race horses in Iran. The judges were Mrs. Elisabeth Chat from Austria, Mr. Ferdinand Schwestermann from Switzerland and Mr. Wladislav Guziuk from Poland. The foreign DC was

Mr. Nils Ismer from Germany and 2 local members, Mr.Dariush Rastegar from the studbook committee and Dr. Ali Seifi. Mr. Soheil Sanati, who has been organizing shows in the region of Yazd, was appointed as the ring master and did a great job. The National Show in Tehran was much anticipated by all and many regions made the long trip to the capital to compete on the show ring: Tabriz, Kermanshah, Isfahan, Shiraz, Kerman, Hamadan, Ghazvin and Yazd and of course Tehran were all present. The first day, Thursday 17th of June was a non Ecaho Straight Iranian classes. This was a very important day for many Iranian breeders who feel the need to maintain the classic Iranian bred Asil horses. The Junior and Senior Male Championship were very high in quality as for the first time, most of the participants competing with each other had already claimed a championship in diverse shows and the outcome was unanticipated and much unexpected. Per le classi Senior, il cosidetto “scontro dei Titani” è avvenuto fra tre vincitori in competizione fra loro da molti anni. *Khour (Binazir x Behnaz) un bellissimo stallone sauro, il quale ancora una volta si è aggiudicato la Medaglia d’Oro, mentre il suo fratellastro *Zarakhsh ha fatto una Riserva e il terzo posto è andato a *Partizan (Haddad x Ghooi). Il giorno seguente si sono svolte le gare per le classi ECAHO ed è iniziato con la categoria Junior delle femmine. Il Campionato è stato assegnato a *Forouzan (Mubarak x Hana), una puledra di due anni molto carismatica con uno

La Medaglia d’Argento è andata a *Ghareh Gol (Barfin x Tuten Khanom) allevata a Yazd e il Bronzo a una stupenda puledra pura Egiziana, *Kamelia (Ramses x Ayiba) allevata in Italia dalla sig.ra Monika Savier nata a seguito della tecnica dell’Embrio-Transfer. La puledra ha solo un anno ma si presenta come una sicura promessa per il futuro. Per la classe Senior, due razze locali hanno preso la Medaglia d’Oro e d’Argento, *Sheyzar (Mubarak x Chavakeh) una bellissima fattrice grigia con la testa cesellata aggiungendo così un’altra vittoria alla sua imponente carriera negli show. Ha avuto il punteggio individuale più alto dello show con ben 127 punti. *Sheyzar è di proprietà del sig. Ehsan Mojarab che è sembrato essere molto soddisfatto dei risultati ottenuti essendo anche proprietario dei campioni della classe Junior e Senior Femminile. Congratulazioni al sig. Ehsan Mojarab e alla regione di Shiraz che possiede queste splendidi esemplari!

She is only one year old and shows a lot of promise for the future. In the Senior class, 2 local bred took the Gold and Silver medal, Sheyzar a beautiful grey mare with a chiseled head ( Mubarak X Chavakeh) added another win to her very impressive show career. She was the highest scored individual during the show with 127 points. She is owned by Ehsan Mojarab who seemed very satisfied with the results of the show as he is the owner of both Junior and Senior Female classes. La Medaglia d’Oro è stata assegnata al favoloso *Deij Seif (Mobarak x Pouri) un adorabile cavallo fin dalla nascita. Ha ottenuto un punteggio sorprendente di 124 punti. Il secondo posto è andato a *Savalan un altro bellissimo stallone color bianco neve e infine il terzo posto è andato ad un nipote, il carismatico *Rahouteb (Barfin x Perella) appartenente alla sig.ra Hilda Benjamin. La sig.ra Hilda è anche una handler molto competente e amante dei cavalli. *Rahouteb è stato allevato da lei e con il quale ha partecipato a molte gare di Endurance.

Both Champion and Reserve Champion were bred by Mubarak, a Salaa e Din son who has had an important impact in Iran, as much as Aswan in Russia or Palas in Poland. The Gold medal was awarded to the stunning DEIJ SEIF ( Mobarak X Pouri) who has been a lovely horse since birth. He scored a very impressive 124 points. The 2 place went to Savalan another beautiful snow white stallion and finally third place went to a grandson, the charismatic Rahouteb ( BarfinX Perella) belonging to Hilda Benjamin. Hilda is also a very competent handler and she loves horses. Rahouteb was bred by her and she is riding him in Endurance rides.

Molti dei cavalli in competizione nel nostro show erano dei cavalli sia da show che da Endurance, ma il tempo ha generato una destinazione netta, sebbene stia diventando un po’ difficoltoso per alcuni piccoli allevatori compiaciuti della versatilità dei loro cavalli. Il Campionato Nazionale è stato un grande successo. La gente è tornata a casa felice dei risultati. Tutte le regioni hanno portato a casa una vittoria è l’atmosfera è stata piacevole fino alla fine dello show. Vi aspettiamo per il prossimo show nell’autunno 2011.

Many of the horses competing in our shows were also race horses or endurance horses, but the time has come to make a total selection, although it is going to be a little difficult for some small breeders who did enjoy the versality of their horses. The National Championship was a big success. People went back home happy with the results. All regions took a win home and the atmosphere stayed very friendly to the end. We are looking forward for the next one in autumn in 2011.

Lo sciatore di Coppa del Mondo, l’austriaco Mario Matt è l’allevatore e proprietario della Puledra prima classificata fra le 2 anni, *MM Eluise, ancora una volta una discendente di WH Justice *Eluise non solo ha convinto per il tipo, ma è anche ottima nel movimento. Nella classe delle Puledre di 3 anni, si è classificata prima la norvegese *Ajmana (figlia di Ajman Moniscione), allevata e di proprietà di Voran Arabians. *OKS Bencylina (figlia dell’ex Campione del Mondo Puledri Girlan Bey) è giunta seconda. World Cup skier Mario Matt from Austria is the breeder and owner of the first placed filly MM Eluise in the class of the two-year-old fillies; again a WH Justice offspring. She not only convinced with her type, but is also a good mover. In the class of three-year-olds, it was the Norwegian Ajmana (by Ajman Moniscione) who took the lead, bred and owned by Voran Arabians. Unanime poi è stata la decisione dei Giudici Silvia Garde-Ehlert, Jerzy Bialobok, Marianne Tengstedt e Gianmarco Aragno, di assegnare la Medaglia d’Oro a *Primera per il Campionato Puledre. L’Argento è andato a *WW Indih, la bella figlia di QR Marc, ed il Bronzo a *Rohara Exotica.

Michalow’s stallion Lissar (by Gazal Al Shaqab), exhibited by Turban Stud in Denmark, won the class of 4 to 6 year-old stallions with very solid scores all over and the second highest total score. He moves beautifully and should have deser ved more than just the one 20 he got. Quite a totally different type of horse is Signature BFA from US, exhibited by the Guttormsen family of Norway; who is a strong and powerful mover. The class of the older stallions was again a triumphal march of the Polish horses: Equifor, as mentioned before, took the lead, followed by Eurykles (by Emigrant), on lease by Turban Stud in Denmark and Emrod (by Emigrant), owned by Turban Stud. It was a unanimous decision of the judges Silvia Garde-Ehlert, Jerzy Bialobok, Marianne Tengstedt and Gianmarco Aragno, to award Primera with the Gold Medal in the Filly Championships. Silver was given to WW Indih, the very pretty QR Marc daughter, and Bronze went to Rohara Exotica.

Non si è trovato un simile accordo fra i Giudici per il Campionato Puledri e così la Medaglia d’Oro è stata assegnata a *Juwel OS, grazie al più alto punteggio in movimento rispetto a Bernhard, dato che i due erano pari anche in tipo. Il secondo posto, e quindi la Medaglia d’Argento è stata vinta quindi da *Bernhard ed il Bronzo da *Eternal. Un’altra decisione unanime ha coronato *Tamara LL Campionessa delle Fattrici e vincitrice della Medaglia d’Oro.

Il Campionato Stalloni è stato un “affare in famiglia” fra Polacchi con Equifor che si aggiudicava la Medaglia d’Oro, e Lissar ed Eurykles rispettivamente l’Argento ed il Bronzo. Tutto sommato un ottimo show, con il contributo non secondario del magnifico tempo, naturalmente, ed aspettiamo già con impazienza i prossimi show a Blommeröd – dovremo arrivare almeno a 25!

In realtà di nuovo c'era solo la location, visto che la manifestazione ha già anni di successi alle spalle nella sua sede storica a Darfo Boario Terme. Anche in questa occasione gli organizzatori hanno fatto un lavoro eccelso. In reality only the location was new, since this kermesse has quite a long and rich palmares from its many years in its historical site, the beautiful Darfo Boario Terme. The Arabian Purebreds shown at this tenth edition of the Elran Cup in Hasselt, Belgium, were many and absolutely wonderful. There was something new this year in the category A show, perfectly organized by Mr & Mrs Everars and by Mr & Mrs Hensen. During the traditional show in fact, also the Arabian Futurity Europe Cup took place. An international Jury has judged some subjects we are sure will be seen again in the world circuit this year already. The judges were Dr. Gianmarco Aragno, Mr. Scott Benjamin, Mrs. Eberhardt, Mr. Jaroslav Lacina and Mrs. Marianne Tengstedt. Eight were the Colts competing for their Champion title: the winner was *El Chall WR owned by the North Family from the USA. The Silver medal was awarded to *AJ Bintan for the UAE while yet another son of *Wh Justice won the Bronze medal, *Aja Justified for Aja Arabians of the UK. Ma visto che si è ritirata durante il campionato, *Abha Opalina avrebbe dovuto essere giudicata nella fila dei secondi classificati ed in questo caso non avrebbe potuto diventare campionessa. The largest crowding this year was for the colt *El Chall WR, which therefor won this beautiful trophy, equivalent to Best In Show. - The Ajman Moniscione Trophy which awarded prizes to the best products of that stallion on show, in this case *Alma Al Tiglio, *AJ Fenjan e *RP Grace Kelly. - The Wh Justice Champion Maker Trophy which grants a beautiful Trophy to two of the products of this marvellous

La scelta è caduta su *Aja Justified. Fino adesso l'Arabian Futurity Europe Cup, si svolgeva durante lo show di Aachen, quest'anno è a Hasselt che si sono ritrovati i puledri che hanno dato il via alla Futurity Cup. I prodotti degli stalloni nominati durante l'asta delle monte via internet e iscritti all'evento prima della loro nascita, gareggiano divisi in 4 categorie: i foal (nati nell'anno) e gli yearling (nati l'anno precedente), separati in femmine e maschi. Poi i primi cinque di ogni categoria si ritrovano in finale per la scelta di due Top 5: quello dei foal e quello degli yearling, sia maschi che femmine senza distinzione. Queste due classifiche permettono ai felici proprietari dei puledri di vincere un ricco premio in denaro, cosi come per i proprietari dei loro padri ma solo nel caso degli yearling. In past years the Arabian Futurity Europe Cup took place during the Aachen show, but this year it was Hasselt that welcomed the colts and fillies that took to the starting line in the Futurity Cup. The products of the stallions, which are named during Stallion Service Auction and enrolled for the event before their birth, compete in four categories the “foals” (born during the year) and the “yearlings” (born during the previous year), divided into male and female. The first five in each category meet again in the final for the choice of two “Top 5”: one for the foals and one for the yearlings, this time without distinction between male and female. These two place-lists allow the happy owners to collect rich cash prizes, just as the stallions owners do, but these last ones only for the yearlings. Here following are the Place Lists.

Gli scorsi 17 e 18 Luglio, la cittadina di Lamballe ha dato il benvenuto ad uno show regionale di classe D ed alla prima competizione nazionale Ecaho C per cavalli Arabi, il Breitz Arabian Horse Show. La Bretagna è famosa per i suoi cavalli da tiro. L’Allevamento nazionale di cavalli di Lamballe ha dato ospitalità fino a circa 400 cavalli “postier breton” nelle sue dodici scuderie. Al giorno d’oggi ne rimangono ancora circa cinquanta. I visitatori che oggi si aggirano nello storico complesso possono scoprire una collezione di antichi carri e

On July 17 and 18th, Lamballe welcomed a regional D show event and the first national Ecaho C competition for Arabian horses, the Breitz Arabian Horse Show. The Brittany area is famous for its draft horses. Lamballe national horse stud sheltered almost four hundred “postier breton” within its twelve stables. Today there are still fifty of them. The visitors wandering about could discover a collection of old carriages and harnessing, especially in the beautifully restored tack room.

Una maniera di scoprire e celebrare il cavallo orientale, mentre fuori delle scuderie il pubblico poteva ammirare i cavalli nel ring, man mano che la competizione andava avanti.

L'attesa edizione dell'Egyptian Event in Lanaken - Belgio - si è tenuta a ridosso della fine del mese del luglio scorso. Organizzata ottimamente e curata nei minimi particolari dalla famiglia Oben con il patrocinio della Pyramid Society Europe, nella persona del suo cordiale presidente, il sig. Ferdinand Schwestermann, questa due giorni è stata particolarmente piacevole, con oltre cento soggetti interessanti iscritti alla gara e baciata da una temperatura ottimale. Insomma tutti i presupposti per la riuscita di un evento unico, e così in effetti è stato. La location, quella storica, ha dato come sempre un tocco in più all'atmosfera già carica di fascino e la cordialità degli organizzatori, dello staff e degli addetti ai lavori ha contribuito a rendere l'evento davvero perfetto.

The awaited edition of the Egyptian Event in Lanaken - Belgium – has been held at the end of July last. Optimally organized and cured even in the slightest details by the Oben Family under the patronage of Pyramid Society Europe, in the person of its kind President, Mr. Ferdinand Schwestermann, this two-day event has been particularly enjoyable, with over a hundred interesting subjects enrolled for the competition and blessed by Heaven with an optimal temperature. In total there were all possible premises for an excellent outcome of such a unique event, and actually so it was. The location, the historical one, gave as usual a little “something special” to the already fascinating atmosphe-

Su tutte, quella più carica di significato è stata la raccolta fondi per una causa benefica. Non è retorica, credetemi, ma ogni manifestazione di questo - e altri - generi dovrebbero considerare di prodigarsi in tal senso, anche una goccia può fare la sua parte in un mare di necessità. also a parade of noteworthy stallions possessing refined blood lines, the Breeders Award Egyptian Event Europe, the Best Straight Egyptian of 2010 Prize and a riding test according to Western discipline. The attendance by foreign breeders was massive, in addition to the hosting Belgium, horses were enrolled from Australia, Denmark, Egypt, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Norway, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Switzerland, the USA and Great Britain, a truly extraordinary “parterre” fit for grand occasions. The competition in itself did not create great surprises, the horses that best interpreted the competition and had the necessary peculiarities, won in the end taking home important awards and positive acknowledgements from the spectators. An excellent job has been done by the entire staff participating to this very nice edition, starting from Team Egyptian Event Europe headed by the Oben family, and continuing with Dr.s Vet. Olivier Aspeslagh and Anneleen Devroey who chaired the disciplinary committee,

La giornata di domenica ha avuto inizio con una categoria di puledre presentate da handler non professionisti, molto bravi peraltro, per proseguire con quelle delle fattrici con e senza puledro. Le classi erano molto belle con esemplari notevoli che si sono ben distinti, in alcuni casi era davvero problematico decidere per il podio. A seguire una prova

Nel periodo precedente le Giornate del Cavallo Arabo, dal 6 al 10 Agosto di quest’anno, che si sono tenute come da tradizione nel magnifico comprensorio delle Scuderie di Stato Janow Podlaski, la “fabbrica delle dicerie” stava già facendo gli straordinari, e dappertutto allevatori ed esperti di varia capacità supponevano che probabilmente quest’anno la crisi finanziaria globale non avrebbe lasciato immune neanche l’Asta - “Orgoglio della Polonia”, come è largamente conosciuta - che pure ha l’abitudine di stabilire nuovi record ogni anno.

Alla metà di agosto si è tenuto uno Show Internazionale di classe C a Lier, una cittadina nella parte nord del Belgio. Lo show era collegato al campionato Polish Prestige (non affiliato ECAHO), al quale possono essere iscritti i cavalli che abbiano almeno 50% di Arabo Polacco nel proprio pedigree. Sylvie Eberhardt e Claudia Darius dalla Germania, e Christiano Moschini dall’Italia erano stati invitati come giudici della competizione di Equitazione e di Morfologia. Il principale organizzatore era Alexandre de Troetsel cui devono andare le nostre congratulazioni per l’ottima organizzazione di questo primo show Internazionale. Sabato 14 Agosto si sono tenuti le gare ed il campionato delle categorie più giovani, mentre Domenica sono state giudicate le categorie più anziane ed i futurity, i campionati senior, la gara di performance ed i premi Polish Prestige e Best in Show. In the middle of August in Lier, a small Belgian town in the northern part of the country, was organized an International C-Show. It was linked with Polish Prestige classes (without the ECAHO affiliation), in which those horses that have a 50 percent of Polish Arabian participation in the pedigree, could be enrolled. Sylvie Eberhardt and Claudia Darius from Germany, as well as Christiano Moschini from Italy were invited to judge the show and riding classes. Main organizer was Alexandre de Troetsel who we owe congratulations to, for the good organization of this first International show. On Saturday, 14th August, the Junior Classes and the Junior Championships were held, while on Sunday there were Senior and Foals classes, Senior Championships, Performance, the Polish Prestige and

Si tratta di un puledro ancora molto giovane, per certo, ma dotato di un fisico ben costruito; gli piace anche mettersi in mostra, ha un ottimo tipo e siamo sicuri che sentirà parlare di un molto in futuro. Sua nonna per parte materna, la bellissima grigia *ZT Sharuby (allevata da Al Shaqab Stud), è stata Campionessa Mondiale 2002 per le fattrici. Il puledro è stato allevato da Pete Rosenau, Stati Uniti, che ne è anche proprietario. Solo un paio d’ore più tardi, il puledro si è aggiudicato la medaglia di Bronzo. Nella sua carriera agonistica ha già vinto il Campionato Belga per Puledri nel 2009.

Best in Show. The main sponsor of the show and the patron - was Ajman Stud from the United Arab Emirates. The yearling Colts class was won by a stylish bay Marwan Al Shaqab son – Aria Santino RA (out of SF Shaklina). It is still a very young colt, but correctly built; he also likes to show off, has a good type, and he will surely raise higher interest in the future. His granddam from his dam side, the beautiful grey ZT Sharuby (from Al Shaqab Stud), is a 2002 Senior Mares World Champion. The colt is bred and owned by Pete Rosenau from the United States. A couple of hours later, the colt was given the Bronze Medal. In his show career he has already won the Belgian Foal Championship in 2009.

La categoria più numerosa e migliore grazie alla qualità dei cavalli partecipanti, è stata la classe delle Puledre di 1 anno. A molti spettatori (non solo a me) è venuta la pelle d’oca per l’emozione nel veder sfilare, una ad una, le figlie di *QR Marc, *Marwan Al Shaqab, *Ajman Moniscione, *Magnum Psyche e di *Mystic Jamaal, all’entrata del ring. Questa classe di 15 belle, molto delicate e femminili Puledre deve essere stata difficile da giudicare per scegliere le migliori. Il fatto che le pur eccellenti figlie di *Marwan Al Shaqab e di *QR Marc si sono classificate rispettivamente nona e decima della classe, può solo confermare questa sensazione. Il vincitore, con 90 punti, è stata la baia *Marwanah Rose-D (Marwan Al Shaqab – WH Marissa Rose), allevata e di proprietà di Dion Arabians del Belgio. Nel campionato del pomeriggio ha anche vinto la medaglia di Bronzo. Un puledro baio scuro, *Sultan BVA (Marajj – Ciara Bey), allevato da Brookville Arabians negli U.S.A., di proprietà di Al Jassimya Stud del Quatar, si è aggiudicato la classe dei Puledri di 2 anni con 90 punti. É un magnifico puledro, giovane ma di perfetta tipologia, con bellissimi testa e collo.

The most numerous and the best on account of horse quality, was the yearling fillies’ class. Many people had goose bumps (not just me), when QR Marc’s, Marwan Al Shaqab’s, Ajman Moniscione’s, Magnum Psyche`s and Mystic Jamaal’s daughters, one by one, started entering the ring. The class of fifteen cute, extremely delicate, and ‘girlish’ fillies must have been quite difficult to judge and to choose the best ones from. The fact that the excellent daughters of Marwan Al Shaqab and QR Marc were 9th and 10th in the class, respectively, can only confirm it. The winner was, with 90 points, the chestnut Marwanah Rose-D (Marwan Al Shaqab – WH Marissa Rose), bred and owned by Dion Arabians from Belgium. In the afternoon championship she was chosen as the Bronze Medal winner. A dark bay colt Sultan BVA (Marajj – Ciara Bey), bred by Brookville Arabians from the United States, owned by Al Jassimya Stud from Qatar, won the twoyear-old colts class with the result of 90 points. classe A o C – vengono iscritti i cavalli di Monarchi, Sceicchi e Principi, che poi in effetti partecipano e vincono. Essendo registrati nell’Albo Belga degli Stalloni, essi possono poi competere in competizioni a livello più alto, come ad esempio i Campionati Europei, che si tengono ad anni alterni in Belgio. Può essere interessante notare anche che perfino nelle maggiori esibizioni a livello mondiale non è possibile osservare altrettante personalità Medio Orientali che in quelle belghe. Nella maggior parte dei casi, gli show belgi sono sponsorizzati e patrocinati da allevatori del Medio Oriente. Una possibile spiegazione si può trovare nel fatto che i cavalli di quella regione, spesso vengono addestrati in centri situati in Belgio e Germania. Molti dei loro cavalli sono anche allevati in Belgio: per molte delle fattrici divenute più tardi Campionesse Europee o Mondiali, gli embrioni sono stati prelevati nelle stazioni di allevamento ippico in Belgio. Le fattrici sono in addestramento, mentre quelle sostitutive portano gli embrioni dei campioni, ospitate in enormi centri di allevamento (contenenti anche 500 cavalli ciascuno), dando poi alla luce i loro frutti, un paio di puledrini all’anno.

matter if the show is A-, or C-class – the kings’, sheikhs’ and princes’ horses are entered, they take part in the shows, and they win. As they are registered in Belgian Stud Book, they can compete in more important shows as well, like the European Championship, which is held every second year in Belgium. It can also be interesting that even at the biggest world shows many Middle Eastern personalities cannot be seen as frequently as at the Belgian ones. In most cases Belgian shows are sponsored and are held under Middle Eastern breeders’ auspices. Maybe it’s because Middle Eastern horses are often trained in centers placed in Belgium and Germany. Their horses are also bred in Belgium: out of many mares who became European and World Champions the embryos were taken in breeding stations in Belgium. The mares are being trained, while the substitute mares carry the champions’ embryos in enormous breeding centers (even 500 horses in each) and they give birth to their siblings, a couple foals each year.

La celebrazione del 30° Anniversario del famoso Egyptian Event, che si è tenuta al Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY, negli Stati Uniti d’America dal 7 al 12 Giugno 2010 è stata certamente un’intera settimana da ricordare. Oltre alla miriade di attività ed eventi che celebravano il cavallo Arabo Egiziano e tutta la comunità intorno ad esso, il 2010 Egyptian Event ha stabilito un paragone inarrivabile nella storia del cavallo Arabo. Sia l’apertura delle Gallerie del Cavallo Arabo Al-Marah che la Mostra Internazionale “Un dono del Deserto: l’Arte, la Storia e la Cultura del Cavallo Arabo” (A Gift from the Desert: the Art, History and Culture of the Arabian Horse) hanno avuto luogo durante l’Evento. The celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Egyptian Event, held at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY from June 7-12, 2010 was cer tainly a week to be remembered. Beyond the myriad of activities celebrating the Egyptian Arabian horse and surrounding community, the 2010 Egyptian Event ser ved to be a benchmark week in the history of the Arabian horse. Both the opening of the Al-Marah Arabian Horse Galleries and the international exhibit “A Gift from the Deser t: the Ar t, History and Culture of the Arabian Horse” took place during the Event. The Event kicked off on Monday, June 7th with a complimentary clinic entitled “Arabian Movement:

Later, the always exciting Stallion Showcase was held in the covered arena. The crowd cheered as each beautiful Straight Egyptian stallion entered the ring for his moment in the spotlight. The audience was then invited to join the stallions in center ring for an up close and personal look. Individuals of all ages greatly enjoyed this oppor tunity to photograph the stallions, visit with owners and give them a nice pat on the neck! At the close of the Stallion Showcase individuals headed outdoors to enjoy the Bar n Par ties which included great food, bubbling champagne and numerous presentations of spectacular Egyptians. Jamie Roberts ha dato il via alle attività del Venerdi mattino con un seminario educazionale molto appropriato alla nostra epoca, dal titolo “Diventare Verdi in Scuderia: Alternative Naturali per il Benessere del Cavallo” (Going Green in the Barn: Natural Alternatives for Horse Wellness). Le sessioni Futurity della mattina e del pomeriggio sono state generosissime di meravigliosi Puledre e Puledri. Alla fine delle categorie pomeridiane, gli spettatori a frotte son tornati ai loro alberghi in tutta fretta per prepararsi all’attesissimo Gala & Raccolta Fondi “Gifts from the Desert…Vegas Style” tenutosi al The Embassy Suites. Il Gala è stato di sicuro una serata che nessuno dimenticherà presto, con decorazioni dappertutto, anche fuori del salone da ballo e con tanti che si affollavano intorno ai tavoli del casino, il tutto mentre si danzava al suono di Dean Martin, Elvis Presley e della David Fontana Band. Dopo una cena semplicemente deliziosa, si è tenuta l’asta tra i presenti, con pezzi artistici Arabi famosi in tutto il mondo e perfino un viaggio in Qatar & Kuwait! Jamie Rober ts began Friday morning’s activities with a timely and educational seminar entitled “Going Green in the Bar n: Natural Alter natives for Horse Wellness”. Gorgeous futurity fillies and colts filled the arena for the morning and after noon sessions. At the close of the afternoon classes, crowds fled back to their hotels in preparation for the highly anticipated “Gifts from the Deser t…Vegas Style” Gala & Fundraiser held at The Embassy Suites. The Gala was surely an evening no one will soon forget with decorations overflowing out of the ballroom and crowds gathered around casino tables, all while dancing to the enter tainment of Dean Mar tin, Elvis Presley and the David Fontana Band. After a delicious meal, the live auction was held featuring world-renowned Arabian ar twork and a trip to Qatar & Kuwait! The final day of the Egyptian Event began just after daybreak when the Pyramid Challenge Endurance riders embarked upon their 50 mile course, followed later by the 25 mile riders. Back in the arena one outstanding horse after another was garnered with Championship ribbons throughout the day. The amateur-led Egyptian Breeders’ Challen-

A questo punto si fa avanzare all’interno della sonda un ago “speciale” con il quale si penetrano i follicoli ovarici ed attraverso il quale viene fatto defluire un liquido di coltura in modo da “lavarli” ed aspirare gli oociti. La procedura viene ovviamente eseguita su entrambe le ovaie. Una volta raccolti, gli oociti vengono posti in un medium di coltura, lasciati a maturare per circa 24 ore e quindi vengono fecondati mediante l’iniezione intracitoplasmatica dello spermatozoo, Intracytoplasmatic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

Al contrario di quanto si verifica con L’oocyte Transfer (per il quale si utilizza un elevato numero di spermatozoi), l’ICSI permette di ottenere puledri utilizzando materiale seminale a bassa motilità e/o bassa fertilità in vivo. Quando OPU, IVM e ICSI vengono utilizzati contemporaneamente danno il considerevole vantaggio di non dovere stimolare in alcun modo la donatrice ( tramite la somministrazione di sostanze ormonali) a produrre più follicoli durante il “calore”. Questo aspetto è particolarmente importante nella specie equina, visto che tutt’ora i metodi di super-ovulazione (produzione elevata del numero di follicoli) sono estremamente costosi oltrechè illegali nel nostro paese. Nel 2001, Select Breeders Service Italia ha iniziato a collaborare con il laboratorio delle tecnologie della riproduzione – CIZ (LTR-CIZ). LTR-CIZ è un laboratorio di livello internazionale dove un gruppo di ricercatori guidati dal Prof. Cesare Galli esegue ricerche nei settori della biotecnologia e delle TRA applicate a varie specie di animali domestici. Questa collaborazione è iniziata ponendosi l’obbiettivo di mettere a punto una tecnica OPUICSI-IVM che potesse permettere di ottenere buoni risultati in termini di gravidanze. Dopo aver realizzato alcuni esperimenti preliminari, nel periodo 2004-2009 LTR-CIZ e SBSItalia hanno eseguito 290 OPU commerciali su 123 cavalle donatrici di età compresa tra i 3 ed i 24 anni ed appartenenti a più razze. L’ICSI è stata eseguita utilizzando materiale seminale congelato di varia qualità e fertilità appartenne a 77 stalloni. Le fattrici sono state sottoposte ad OPU durante la fase di transizione autunnale o primaverile oppure in diestro senza la presenza di un follicolo dominante. Durante l’esecuzione dell’OPU si è provveduto ad aspirare tutti i follicoli aventi dimensioni superiori al centimetro nel tentativo di ottenere il più alto numero possibile di oociti. Although normal or higher numbers of fertile sperm are needed for oocyte transfer to be successful, ICSI provides a method to obtain offspring by using semen with low motility and/or poor reproductive performance in vivo. When used in combination, OPU, IVC and ICSI have the considerable advantage of not requiring any hormonal stimulation of the donor and this aspect is of particular importance in mares because superovulation still gives inconsistent results. In 2001, Select Breeders Ser vice Italia star ted a collaboration with Laboratorio di Tecnologie della Riproduzione - CIZ (LTR-CIZ), an internationally recognized laboratory where a group of scientists headed by Dr. Cesare Galli conducts research in the fields of biotechnology and ART of many domestic animal species. This collaboration was initiated with the goal of establishing an OPU-ICSI IVC technique that could lead to consistent commercial results. Following a series of preliminary experiments, LTR-CIZ and SBSItalia performed 290 commercial OPU sessions on 123 donor mares aged between 3 to 24 years during the 2004 – 2009 seasons. The majority of the mares were Warmblood. Frozen-thawed semen from 67 stallions of varying quality and fertility was used. During the breeding season mares were subjected to OPU in diestrus in the absence of a dominant follicle if at all possible. All the ovarian follicles ranging from 0,5 to 4 cm diameter were aspirated by OPU and the recovered oocytes were then matured in vitro. The matured oocytes were fertilized by ICSI and allowed to develop to the blastocyst stage in vitro. The blastocysts were frozen in media containing 10%

AH V e te r i n a r y in vitro e quelli maturati sono stati quindi fertilizzati in vitro tramite ICSI e messi in coltura fino a quando avessero raggiunto lo stadio di blastocisti (embrione di 7-8 giorni). Gli embrioni così prodotti sono stati congelati e successivamente conservati in azoto liquido. Gli embrioni sono stati congelati 6,7,8,9 giorni dopo l’ICSI, in base al periodo di tempo da loro impiegato a raggiungere lo stadio di blastocisti. Gli embrioni sono stati quindi trapiantati non chirurgicamente in cavalle riceventi che avessero oculato da 4 a 6 giorni. Nelle 290 sessioni di OPU eseguite è stato possibile aspirare 4845 follicoli e recuperare 3150 oociti. Di questi, 2029 (65%) hanno maturato e sono pertanto stati fertilizzati tramite ICSI; in totale sono state prodotte 171 blastocisti (0,6 per ogni sessione OPU-ICSI-IVM). Di tutti gli embrioni prodotti dal 2004 al 2009, sono stati scongelati e trasferiti non chirurgicamente 128 embrioni che hanno dato origine a 75 gravidanze (58,6%). I risultati ottenuti in questo breve periodo di impiego commerciale hanno dimostrato che OPU, ICSI E IVM possono essere impiegati con successo su cavalle e stalloni di elevato pregio. Nonostante tutto però, OPU, ICSI E IVM non sostituiranno mai l’uso dell’Embryo Transfer convenzionale, visto che queste tecniche possono essere portate a termine solo in presenza di attrezzature sofisticate e costose, nonché personale altamente specializzato. Tecniche di riproduzione assistita di livello avanzato quali l’OPU, l’ICSI e la IVM possono essere strumenti utilizzabili dall’allevatore nel caso in cui si renda necessario: • Ottenere gravidanze da cavalle che non rimangono gravide nonostante nessuna patologia evidente • Ottenere gravidanze da cavalle con evidenti problemi riproduttivi non risolvibili come piometra (accumulo di materiale purulento nell’utero) infiammazioni croniche e degenerative uterine, problemi o lacerazioni della cervice.

glycerol and subsequently stored in liquid nitrogen. Embryos were frozen on day 6, 7, 8 or 9 after ICSI in relation to the time when the blastocyst stage was achieved. Embryos were transferred nonsurgically to recipient mares 4 to 6 days (preferably 5 days) after ovulation. During the 290 OPU sessions, 4845 follicles were aspirated and 3150 oocytes were recovered. Of these, 2029 (65%) oocytes matured and were fertilized by ICSI giving rise to 171 blastocysts (0.6 blastocysts per OPU-ICSI IVC session). To date, 128 thawed embryos were nonsurgically transferred and 75 recipients (58,59%) mares were detected pregnant by ultrasonography. The results obtained in this short period of commercial application suggest that the use of OPU-ICSI-IVC can lead to reasonable results and may have applications for highly valuable mares and stallions. Nevertheless, OPU-ICSI-IVC likely will not overcome the use of conventional Embryo Transfer because of the specialized equipment and skilled personnel needed to perform such procedures. Advanced reproductive techniques such as OPU,ICSI, and IVC add to the tools available to breeders when it is necessary to: • Obtain pregnancies from repeat breeder mares • Obtain pregnancies from mares with reproductive problems like pyometra, degenerative endometriosis or irreparable cer vical lacerations • Obtain pregnancies from mares that are not able to carry a foal to term • Obtain pregnancies by producing and freezing embryos for later transfer during

www.dobermannsangels.it Dobermanns' Angels non è solo un' associazione. E' anche amore incondizionato, voglia di lottare, di aiutare e soprattutto di farcela. Nasce da un legame tra cinque donne creatosi proprio grazie a loro, i Dobermann. Il legame di queste cinque splendide persone ha portato altre ad unirsi con lo stesso entusiasmo contribuendo allo sviluppo di questo progetto fino a renderlo concreto, solido e soprattutto realmente utile ai dobermann in difficoltà. Durante la realizzazione del progetto e fondazione della Assoc. T.C.D.A. (Tutela Cani Dobermann Abbandonati) abbiamo dovuto superare problemi, ci siamo scontrati con realtà spesso molto dure, abbiamo affrontato delusioni e, a volte, subito sgradevoli ed inopportune critiche. Abbiamo osato sempre e comunque, a volte abbattuti, ma sempre rialzati. In un mondo in cui gli animali non hanno ancora ottenuto il giusto rispetto e la dovuta considerazione, gli scettici ritenevano che sarebbe stato difficile essere ascoltati. Nonostante tutto, eccoci qua! D'altronde si sa, a noi piacciono solo i lieto fine. Finalmente, possiamo dire "Ce l'abbiamo fatta!". Siamo partiti con un grande sogno, un sogno che, con tempo e sacrificio, è finalmente divenuto realtà. Non è facile combattere ogni giorno situazioni dolorose, né guardare quegli occhi tristi senza versare lacrime, ma crediamo in quello che facciamo, siamo decisi e pronti ad affrontare ogni difficoltà. Stiamo crescendo sempre di più e con coloro che si uniranno a noi lungo il cammino, continueremo in questa grande avventura, lottando per salvare creature indifese, ma soprattutto per questa splendida razza che è il Dobermann.

Dobermanns 'Angels is not only an association. It's also unconditional love, willing to fight, to help and especially to make it. Arises from a link between five women created thanks to them, the Dobermann. The binding of these women has taken others to join the association with the same enthusiasm and contributing to the development of this project, making concrete,solid and really useful to the Dobermann in difficulty. During the project and the foundation of the Assoc. T.C.D.A. (Protection Dobermann Dogs Abandoned) we had to overcome problems, we often clashed with harsh reality, we have faced disappointment and sometimes just unpleasant and inappropriate criticism. We always dare, sometimes killed, but still raised. In a world where animals have not obtained the proper respect yet and the right consideration, skeptics thought that it would be difficult to be heard. Despite everything, here we are! Moreover we know, we only like happy endings. Finally, we can say "We've done it." We started with a big dream which has become reality after time and sacrifice. It is not easy to struggle daily painful situations, or watching those sad eyes without shed tears, but we believe in what we do, we are determined and ready to face any difficulty. We are growing more and more people will join us along the way, we will continue in this great adventure, fighting to save defenseless creatures, but especially for this beautiful breed: the Dobermann.

Il fine settimana del 3 e 4 Luglio scorsi, è stato piuttosto pieno a Brecht, un centinaio di chilometri da Brussell, in Belgio. Organizzato da Helen e Kay Hennekens, la sesta edizione di questo Show Internazionale per Cavalli Arabi comprendeva in effetti due gare. Uno Show Nazionale di classe C al sabato, nel quale apparivano più di cinquanta PSA distribuiti su cinque categorie – Puledri, Fattrici Giovani, Stalloni Giovani, Fattrici e Stalloni. Ed uno Show Internazionale, svoltosi alla domenica, con quasi novanta cavalli a competere per le stesse graduatorie.

On last July 3rd and 4th the weekend was full, in Brecht, a hundred kilometers from Brussels (Belgium). Organized by Helen and Kay Hennekens, the sixth edition of this International Show for Arabian Horses included two competitions. A National C Show on Saturday, which featured over fifty purebreds distributed on five categories – Foals, Junior Mares, Junior Stallions, Senior Mares and Senior Stallions. And an International B Show, to be played on Sunday, with nearly ninety horses to compete for the same five podiums.

Un’atmosfera speciale permeava la venticinquesima edizione del Raid Yvelines, il 5 e 6 giugno scorsi, nella foresta di Rambouillet (a soli 50 km da Parigi, ovviamente in Francia). Il caldo era torrido al sabato, quando 87 cavalieri, inclusi 19 stranieri, hanno gareggiato per il CEI** (130Km). Così alla fine solo un terzo dei partenti ha tagliato il traguardo. All’arrivo della frazione, questa seconda strategia si è dimostrata migliore, perchè sia Philippe Tomas che Jean-Philippe Frances sono stati eliminati – come anche Jack Begaud su *Ocaz, dimostratosi in forma non perfetta in questa occasione. Minaccioso, si profilava di nuovo all’orizzonte il muro. Ci sarebbe stato bisogno di grande forza di carattere da parte dei cavalli. E per i cavalieri, di una forza di persuasione non comune all'approcciarsi a quell'ostacolo, che si staglia diritto verso il cielo alla fine di un lungo bacino. Non stroncare il cavallo, con ancora 10 km da percorrere prima dell’arrivo, ma neanche sprecare troppo tempo (per la salita e poi per un qualche recupero in vista della volata finale). Virginie Atger ha chiaramente ben interpretato la scelta ed *Azim du Florival è stato il più veloce nello sprint contro *Ourasi de l’Aigoual e Lisa Riou, che sono arrivati con un solo secondo di ritardo. Nel weekend più caldo dell’anno, più di 50 partecipanti si sono disputati i titoli di Campione Europeo nelle categorie di Dressage, Show Jumping, Classic Pleasure, Reining, Trail, Western Pleasure, All-round Classic ed Allround Western. Nel loro complesso hanno dato una dimostrazione impressionante di ciò che un Arabo può fare, ma, ancora più importante forse, è stata una gara combattuta ma equa e tutti hanno gradito la sportività ed il clima di amicizia fra i cavalieri provenienti da tutta Europa. It was the hottest weekend of the year, when over 50 par ticipants fought for European Champion titles in Dressage, Show Jumping, Classic Pleasure, Reining, Trail, Wester n Pleasure, All-round Classic and All-round Western. in 2010, Göran Ericsson with his team of AHIS volunteered to organise the Championships for the first time in Sweden. 57 horses and riders from eight countries followed his invitation. The chosen venue was the new Equestrian Center Bökeberg near Svedala in the South of Sweden, not far from Malmö and Trelleborg and thus easy to reach. Dressage on Highest Level In Dressage one of the most difficult levels is asked for, the Prix St. Georges. The number of horses and riders who tackle this high level is naturally limited.

Era la giornata di Linda Carlsson su *Chocco e non c’è stato nulla da fare; il punto forte di *Chocco è un trotto esteso come capita raramente di vedere. Lise Frandsen su *Fair Orkan si è esibita in due ottimi test di dressage, mentre Stefan Hirnböck ha compiuto un errore cruciale e si è quindi piazzato solo terzo – di nuovo una medaglia di Bronzo, ma la sua costanza di prestazioni in tutti questi anni non gli dà alcuna ragione per non essere orgoglioso. Il Classic Pleasure è una disciplina molto vicina al Dressage e quindi molti dei concorrenti del Dressage hanno concorso anche in questa specialità. Questa nuova disciplina può anche essere vista come il corrispondente del Western Pleasure nell’ambito delle discipline “classiche” e qui l’enfasi viene messa sulle andature di base del

on “home grounds”. All the way from Austria came Stefan Hir nböck with Padrons Khen Saabi, who – always being second or third in the past – hoped for more this time, but it wasn’t to be. Linda Carlsson with Chocco had their day and couldn’t be beaten; Chocco’s strength lies in an extended trot as it can rarely be seen. Lise Frandsen and Fair Orkan showed two sound dressage tests, while Stefan Hirnböck made a crucial mistake and thus was placed only third – again Bronze Medal, but his consistent perfor mance over all these years does not give any reason to be ashamed of. A discipline which is closely related to dressage is the rather new Classic Pleasure and so a lot of the dressage horses also competed here. This new discipline can also be regarded as the counterpart of Western Pleasure within the classic disciplines and here, emphasis is given to the basic gaits of the horse

The All-Around Classic is a combination of different disciplines, such as dressage, show jumping, cross country, classic pleasure, 400 m race (speed) and pole bending, all on a lower level than for the specialists. Another aspect coming into it is the “Type & Conformation”, i.e. the assessment of the horse by conformation judges. The idea is that the “Arabian type” should not get lost, also not in sports horses. Always a “fun discipline” is the speed, where you can race your horse on a 400 m straight against the clock. No less than 18 horses participated which shows how popular it is. The best All-Arounder was Jessica Nordmark from Sweden on Divaldi, she had her stronghold in dressage and type & conformation. Western – home run for the Swedes For many, reining is the “Royal Discipline”, but with the Austrian and German riders missing, the competition did not reach the levels of previous years. The Swedes were all among themselves and so it was Emelie Holmstedt on Garusz taking Gold, with Linn Pettersson on Zigaar coming in second, and Malin Kleman on Paresco achieving the Bronze Medal. None of them have ever been at a previous European Championships and so they were all rather unknown quantities outside Sweden. Western Pleasure is very popular and again the horse needs to give the impression to be a “pleasure to ride” – which is no problem for a well-trained Arabian horse, and on top of it he is pretty, too! L’Oro e l’Argento sono andati alla Svezia, specificamente a Eleonore Danielsson su *Hampus ed a Janicke Hallkvist su *Nierob. I tracciati del Trail ai Campionati Europei tenuti in Austria sono sempre stati noti per la loro durezza e quindi Barbara Kristen su *Jaccarandah, austriaca, era ben preparata e si è impossessata della medaglia d’Oro con grande autorevolezza. In effetti la squadra aveva già vinto la gara del Trail, il loro punto forte, che tra l’altro conta per il conseguimento del titolo di All-Round. L’Argento è stato conquistato da Anja Diephout, olandese, su *Nepass, mentre il Bronzo è stato appannaggio della Svezia, con Pauline Eriksson su *The Fabulous Farax.

Silver was taken by Anja Diephout from the Netherlands on Nepass, while the Bronze Medal went to Sweden, to Pauline Eriksson on The Fabulous Farax. The Wester n All-Around competition consists of various different tests, such as Western Pleasure, Trail, Reining, Western Riding, Western Horsemanship, etc., and the more tests you ride, the more points you can accumulate. It was Eleonore Danielsson with Hampus who did best, winning two of the tests and coming second in Trail behind Jaccarandah. They had a clear lead with a total of 41 points. Benchè il team organizzatore svedese goda di grande esperienza organizzativa a livello nazionale, è di certo ancora più complesso contemperare tutte le diverse esigenze dei cavalieri esteri, a cominciare dai problemi di lingua, ma ci sono anche aspettative differenti e quindi si sono verificate certamente alcune sbavature, ma tutto è stato preso in allegria, con cavalleria, sportività ed amicizia che permeavano l’atmosfera, e quindi i Campionati Europei si sono ancora una volta dimostrati il punto di incontro per i cavalieri e per gli amici del Cavallo Arabo provenienti da tutta Europa.
