DURHAM BOATHOUSE
Architectural Design Studio “Measure� (Sophie Ellis) Newcastle University March-May 2016 The project is located at the southern banks of the River Wear, accords with the 12th century Romanesque Cathedral. The project brief was mainly focussed on providing boat shed, cafe and service areas but also considering the risk of flood.
The roof takes its shape from the dynamic nature of rowing and allows daylight to be entered into the building. Corten panels are used to cover steel frame structure for its weather resistance and appropriateness to the specified location.
Working Models
While I really enjoyed working on this project, I believe I could improve the construction details of the project. Technical volume and the service core as well as the circulation space could have been developed.

Wet areas that are boat storage and changing rooms are situated below the flood line while areas which must be protected from water penetration such as the technical room, lift and rest are positioned 1.2m above the ground level (.2 above the flood line)
The building is juxtaposed among the existing trees Foundations are planned to be fibre piles due to the proximity with the trees, so that the piles will be carefully placed between the roots of the trees (Casa Levene in Spain for precedence).

Keelman’s Hospital is an abandoned hostel which has a rich history and can be connected with our
Salvation Army Mens’ Palace building was serving as a homeless hostel until few years ago. There are
En-suite Rooms*
private residences around the specified building and the area is extremely rich with diverse cultural
backgrounds which is contributed by many student accommodations around.
Without harming the nature of our Grade II listed Salvation Army building, we have designed this 17m2 rooms which can accommodate up to 70 people and the number can reach to 140 with the inclusion of Keelman’s Hospital. These rooms are going to serve homeless youth and they can acquire new skills in the student hub for further study. The design aims to provide a hub not only for the residents here but the students from other accommodations can equally benefit from the student hub. This would contribute the social interaction of vulnerable homeless children which can also psychologically support them to include in society. There is, therefore, a cafe, study room and a recreational common hall to provide all sort of services they may need. However, space is a bit tight to provide variety of activities for this student hub and some spaces in the basement are not solved well, which could have been improved.

Spaces Inclined roofs and walls have sound spreading quality making it easier to be diffused. Particularly, inclined walls with higher than 6 degrees slope achieves higher accoustic diffusion so is used around the building to block the noise spread by the cafe.

September 2017-January 2018 Through the interviews with the vulnerable groups (inflicted by drug and alcohol abuse) and discussions with some local architects and planners, we designed a well-being centre which would contribute these vulnerable people both psychologically and functionally. Finally, we presented this project to the Newcastle Planning authorities and received many positive feedbacks. Whilst all of us contributed on the design, I think the quality of spaces could have been improved as well as the section drawings I made.

CO-PRODUCING SPACE Architectural Design Studio “Co-producing Space” (Armelle Tardiveau) Newcastle University

April 2017-June 2018 As a group of four, we have designed an intervention which can stimulate the public bonding among Ouseburn residents. Our design is made of scrap materials found in Daysh building when some of the office utiliences were thrown away. We bought other cheap materials such as polycarbonate sheet and hinges so with a minimum cost we created this intervention for different activities. Intervention should have been mobile but the castors we bought didn’t carry the weight. So it was a bit hard to carry the intervention around. We demonstrated a plant making event nearby the Toffee Factory.

A recreational building designed by a renowned architectural company. My office was the executive architecture office of this long going project. O In my 5 months of internship, I worked on these detail drawings and general plans both on Autocad and Revit. The most important point of this project for me was seeing a large scale application project Pand learning to use Revit on the BIM environment. APPLICATION PROJECT Eray Carbajo Architects May 2019 - August 2019 This is a barber shop project I really enjoyed working on. Application details, ceiling plans and sections are drawn by me and I have also attended to the process of timber cladding production, it was challenging to fit curvy forms aligned however the results were surprisingly good. This project helped me to acquire and develop many skills such as overcoming deadlines and work effectively.

BUILDING SURVEY Team mates: Mazlum Bozkurt
Building Surveying (Mevlude Kaptı) Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul September 2019 - January 2020 This project is carried out with a pair, while one of us was taking the measurements the other was drawing. The pavillion we worked, Zülüflü İsmail Paşa Köşkü is located in Kadikoy, an Asian district of Istanbul. In this module, which consists of theory and practice; the theory was about documenting historical structures, ICOMOS and UNESCO heritage preserving procedures and techniques of building or restoring on historical sites. And in the practice part, my partner and I worked on this pavilion and documented meticuluously each plans and window/door details. I am currently taking the second part of this lecture, in which we learn how to approach the building techniques and determine the structure and its construction technology. BALAT AFTER SCHOOL CENTRE Architectural Design (Oğuz Özer) (Individual) Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul September 2019 - January 2020 After school learning centre is based in Istanbul’s Balat district, aims to respond for the publicly open spaces which is observed to be lacking in the area. It is purposed to provide a quiet study area and extracurricular activities such as music, dance or illustrative art courses for the youth around, particularly for the specified in blue colour on the site map, Tarık Us Middle School’s pupils. The idea is to create public areas for the low-income residents of Balat in particular because the ongoing urban regeneration plan is driven by the economic tourist-oriented zeal and most of the elite developments are risking the low-income groups in the area.
Old and new
Area’s industrial background is celebrated through the corten panels and the contrast with the existing old walls is intended.

Porosity
Vegetation The elevation of 3m beared by the old walls is replaced by my intervention. The area is located in the church property so a relationship was also built with it.
Narrow streets and highly divisive blind walls are overwhelming Balat. Few opennings are created on the existing walls to make the building more public and porous. The intervention mimics the topography and the pattern that plane trees create. The area is also populated with various fruit trees. 10
