American Muslims are Normal People By, Karim Abbas According to the Pew Research Center, they estimated that 3.3 million out of the 332 million Americans are Muslim, and that's 1% of the population in the United States. The citizens who are Muslim are not being treated fairly compared to the other people with other religions. I know that’s not fair because we are all human and we all should be the same. Another thing is that we are excluded from lots of jobs in general because the society's stereotype that were terrorists. American Muslims should be treated equally to Christian Americans.
Malcolm X Everyone should be treated equally no matter what their religion race or opinions are and many people think that Muslims are terrorists. But one person called Malcolm X stood up for the Muslims in America. For example, Malcolm X had a hard time as a child, and he was not being treated fairly for being black. Once he discovered Islam he found out the values and once he learned about it he converted to a Muslim. He was known for being a civil rights activist and tried to help American Muslims not to be thought of as terrorists. It would be great if people were more open to learning about Islam as Malcolm X did.
Martin Luther King JR. People used to discriminate black people, but Martin Luther King JR had enough of it as he was attacked by white supremacists as a child. An Example is Martin Luther King JR, even though he was not Muslim he helped America become a better country. He also made it more equal to
everyone because he had dark skin he was abused by white supremacists. He made America more equal to everyone and is appreciated by billions today. Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21 1965 . Martin Luther King JR was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
Everyone is Equal According to Newsela, both of these activists Show how they represent civil rights in many ways. from being treated fairly when your dark skinned or being an American Muslim and being treated equally. overall, they have examples to treat all humans in this world equally no matter being White, Black, Christian, Muslim or any religion or race. The point is everyone should be treated equally. An artist named Logic released an album talking about being equal and one of his lines said, “I ain't ashamed to be white. I ain't ashamed to be Black. I ain't ashamed of my beautiful Mexican wife as a matter of fact”. what stands out to me is that he doesn't care about the labels he cares about the personality. also, how people treat dark skinned people differently and unfairly. He is standing out to the issue and that what stands out to me about this line, but there are lots more that he said.
We Should Do Something In conclusion, the world should still be more equal, but because of the two activists I just talked about the world is much better than it was before. But these are not the only activists there are. But these two stand out a lot to my topic, but there are still more things to be done. Every human should be treated fairly and equally no matter what their religion race or opinions are. after all it should not be a problem to everyone, beliefs are to themselves and race is just the outside and opinions are for themselves so I don’t know why people think its a problem. Everyone should be treated equally and what people should do that if they see someone treating someone in a bad manner or a bad way you should step up. If all humans do that everyone will be treated equally. We all have blood so why are people treating humans unfairly because all humans deserve a life as equal as others. So people need to start stepping up because if we don’t do it, then who will
Refugees Deserve a Future By: Jana Shaikh Welcome to 2018, where we still treat so many humans like they aren’t of our kind. It was noted that towards the end of 2015 there were about 65.3 million displaced people, also know as refugees, around the world. According to World Vision, refugees have mostly fled from Syria, Afghanistan, Lake Chad Basin, South Sudan, and Somalia. Put together, 10 countries located in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, welcome more refugees than the rest of the countries worldwide put together. This is upsetting; refugees are mistreated, as they are “unwelcome” in a lot of countries. I know that many times that families have fled from war torn and impoverished countries, they were not allowed inside the countries they had arrived in and were left starving and outside the border; this included families with young children. I respect that some countries might not have enough space for more people, but they should at least try to help. Refugees are no different than other people, they are only trying to find homes. Refugees should be welcome in the countries that they have fled to, and should be treated the same as the people native in that country.
Why do they move? Refugees have been around for a while and are still growing in population. They have had to flee their countries for many upsetting reasons. 65.3 millions people in 2015 left the place they called their homes. Because of war, poverty, natural disasters, etc. Some countries have treated these people as if they had a choice to leave, as if they are trying to take over their country. The truth? They leave to survive. Not to take over the place that people call their homes. Not to destroy everything around them. No. Simply to be safe, to have food, to have shelter. They will not bother anyone, yet people act as if Hitler's invading the country. Countries should welcome in the refugees as if they are of their own. But instead countries leave them trapped outside the border with nowhere to go, no money, no food. Leaving them to die, as children, young adults, elders. They do not deserve such fate, especially if they never did anything in the first place. Refugees should be welcome into these places without an issue, the borders should be open from them, and kindly, not forcefully.
Sad Goodbyes, Harsh Conditions Refugees have risked their lives to try to give a better future to their children; to continue what they had planned. Maybe not exactly, but in another land where they can make their dreams still possible. They have sold all their belongings and used their life savings just to find a way to exit the country they were born into. To rent a boat that isn’t even fit for 2 people, or to buy a life jacket that was stuffed with hay. Maybe to have someone take care of their child, or to
have some food to eat. People have sold their wedding rings, all their money, just to get some clean water; which many do not have access to. “We didn’t have the money to bring the whole family, so it was decided that I would make the journey, ” Mazen Hassoun a 16 year old boy who fled from Syria to Germany. Like Mazen many families have used all their money to save their children, without even thinking about themselves. Let me ask you this, let's say you were travelling for a short vacation without your parents, just you, and as a teenager. You may or may not have had the thought of what if I don’t come back, what if something happens to me . Yet you know you’re only going for a short period of time. But what if you didn’t think you’d ever see your parents again. Sometimes you would want a break for a week, or 2, but most likely not forever. You see, people like Mazen might have accepted that he might never see his parents again; it is only hope that still lingers. Why don’t you take a second to realize the pain these families have been through, and the sacrifices they have made in order for a child's future. These people should not have to leave their family behind, but rather countries should send them material to get out of the countries with their whole family.
Work Issues, and Mistreatation In many countries refugees are still terribly treated. I guess some people aren’t used to foreigners, and that's alright, but they need to adapt to it. According to Newsela, a coffee shop in California’s staff is entirely made up of refugees and immigrants. I love the idea of this, because many times refugees don’t get many jobs and are left homeless. When foreigners (immigrants, refugees, etc) apply for a job they get scared. Maybe because sometimes countries can be judgemental, or maybe because they know they aren’t going to be treated the same as everyone else. I hate that they have to think about this because I know that these people shouldn’t be any more nervous than an american in America trying out for a job. Karki Bhutan a Nepalese male that lived in a refugee camp for 20 years has an issue like I stated, jobs being less expectant and him having a hard experience. Here is something Newsela said about him, “ Even though he was eager to work, his lack of work experience in the United States hampered his job
hunt .” This coffee shop gives the perspective that refugees aren’t always treated the same and that's why this shops staff is immigrants. They’re giving these people an opportunity that many businesses don't. And that's important. Refugees should be welcome into jobs just like anyone native to that country is.
What Can We Do To Change? Now you may think, I don’t mistreat refugees . But in all truth, you may not notice that you do. Most of the time it’s unintentional, you might not realize it, but are you really doing anything to help? Sometimes you don’t like to think about things that are upsetting, like the topic of refugees. But are you sure that's the way you want to go? We need to think more about people who are not as lucky as we are.Think about the people who need help, and who don’t have as many opportunities as us. We should not just watch from TV and feel bad, but make a difference. Refugees should be respected equally to nonrefugees, no matter where they come from, and how they got there. But the fact that they are humans just like us. I think it’s time we change how we think, and try to respect people whether they look like us or not. Make a difference in the way you think, go beyond just staring. If you see a refugee be kind, don’t treat them differently. Approach them, start a conversation in which you should act as if it's just another friend of yours. Because truth be told, refugees are just like you, they have friends, a family, a life; and thats whats important. Notice, be aware, treat them like someone of your own.
People with Disabilities By Adel Ghanem Over a third of the US whitecollar workers,the whitecollar workers are the people who work in offices and there is black collar people are the ones that work outside, have a disability. People think that if someone is disabled they cannot work or play sports or do arts, but I think that even if the people are disabilities they can still do everything that we do. They can have great talent and maybe because of the people that don’t give them a chance to try out for a team or do anything else they might be missing a person that has great talent. I think that disabled people can have great talent and can do anything that we do because they are humans like us. I think that the people that are disabled and would like to work outside then the managers should give them a chance. People that are disabled shouldn’t give up on their dreams. According to Newsela, Hasaan, an 18yearold wrestler when he was young he had no Fibulas, which is the bone in between the knee and the foot, and his dad and mom had to make a huge decision and that was to let Hasaan’s leg grow and get bigger or to cut his leg until the knee. Their decision was to cut his leg off and that would be so much easier because he does not have to go in the wheelchair everywhere and he can learn to walk. When he was in high school he started to do wrestling and he was really wanted to be a wrestler so he really liked it. He learned a lot of new things in wrestling and then a tournament came. “He had a perfect 370 record, a state title and two stumps where his legs once had been.” This shows that if you are disabled you can still do the things that you love to do just like how hasaan never gave up on his dreams even if he has a disability and that is that he had no legs and he still tried his best to keep doing his best. Also, imagine what he had to go throw like people were looking at him when he was in school but he still cared about what they said but never really cared about what the people said to him that he can’t do wrestling and now he became a great wrestler. People that are disabled can have great talent. According to Newsela, Alan Brint, A high schooler that is blind and he is a really good swimmer. He has been blind since he was born, and he has been training about for four years. When he first started swimming he really liked it and wanted to continue so like the wrestler he still wanted to be a really good swimmer. Also when he tried from the swimming team even if he was blind his coaches so that he had great talent and they accepted him. When he was at a school race he wanted to show the people that all the people in the world should be treated the same. So, when he was racing in the competition he should everyone that he should be treated the same by making a new best for
him and everyone was clapping, but when he came out he was really happy that he did his new best, but he told them “he wanted to do better in the breaststroke but you still can’t say anything when you do a new best.” This shows that the high schooler had really good talent and he wanted to show the people that he really cares about how they treat him even if he is blind. People that are disabled should be treated the same. According to Newsela, Jack Olsen, a football lover that lost his left eye when he was young but then because he was getting so many things that were annoying that they decided to take off the other eye (right eye). Even now that he is blind he still wanted to play football and before they took off his other eye he was watching the Trojans, the football team of the University of Southern California and when he grew up he really wanted to play for that team. So, one day he went and asked the coach for the Trojans if he can join the team the coach said “ to return after the team finished the season.” and Jack said “ok I will come next season,”but then to the newspapers he said that he just did that so he doesn’t ruin his spirit. Then when the next season came he went to him and the coach told him that he has to deserve it and become good at it. Then Jack started to practice and practice and he started to get better in snaps, that's the possession that he wanted to play for the team. When the tryouts for the team came he did really well and he made it to the team. This shows that disabled people should be treated the same because from the beginning the coach said that he just did that so he doesn’t ruin his spirit but then Jack made it to the team even if his coach didn’t think he would so you should treat the disabled people really well and give them chances.Disabled people shouldn’t be treated differently than us because they usually have a harder time doing things that we do because they have something unique. Disable people also have dreams to become a sports player or an artist and they still don’t give up on what they want and also they can have great talent just like us and they really want us to treat them the same so, please if you see someone that is disabled treat him the same as all of your friends and just try your best to treat him the same.

People with disabilities face discrimination almost every day. More than 1 million people are disabled in this world. That makes up 15% of the world's population which is a huge amount. 1 in 5 people that are disabled are able to find a part-time job, getting a full-time job is even harder. Disabled people have a harder time getting around. One example of this is if you're in a big city like NYC taxi drivers will frequently ignore you not wanting to deal with your physical needs, seeing you as a headache. Disabled people also have a hard time getting a good education just because they are disabled, and disabled people are constantly being ignored. Disabled people are just like anybody else, but with special needs.
Schooling People with disabilities have barriers that restrict them from participating in society on an equal basis with others every day. They are denied, their rights to be included in the general school system, to be employed, to live independently in the community, to move freely, to vote, to participate in sport and cultural activities and to enjoy social protection. This shows just how much disabled people are limited from. The protection offered to “normal” people sometimes doesn’t apply to the disabled, and they remain “invisible” to the world. Disabled people should have the same rights for everything just like any non-disabled person. A Lot of countries that promised to keep their rights for disabled people are failing and aren't providing the education for young disabled kids mainly in Australia and New Zealand since 2002, however, there have been improvements but there is still a major issue with schools deliberately not wanting to take in a disabled child."There's no school place for your child," stated by the website, The Conversation. Concern was raised when 1 in 4 of the 300 Respondents had been told that there was no school place for their child. When a disabled person eventually get in they would be treated poorly, and the teacher was reluctant or even refused to make adjustments, due to their disabilities. Another issue with
education is the poor education offered to Disabled people if they can even find any. In a comment made by NSW Education Minister Adrian Picolli about more money that has to be spent on the kids with special needs he said: “ Prisons are not filled with kids who went to $30,000 private schools; they’re full of people with speech problems and autism, who had a pretty poor experience at school. This is an equity issue,” said by Adrian Picolli. In NSW, young people with mental health disorders and/or hearing or visual impairment are at least six times more likely to be in prison compared with young people without disabilities If more money was spent, it could be used to provide material and staffing adjustments to give the disabled access to proper schooling.
The Community Individuals with special needs should be able to join regular community events without feeling isolated or different from any other non-disabled person. This is a regular problem for disabled people because they have to feel different from anybody else and sometimes get purposely discriminated. Disabled get told very often even if they do get recognized as part of our society that they can participate in “their” social activities. In many countries it is not okay to discriminate against people but many do still do it. Sport clubs are supposed to make adjustments for disabled people according to the law but ever do. Bosnia, with a population of almost 5 million fail to provide care for 10 % of their population. According to Newelsa: Ismail Zulfic is a 6 year old living in Bosnia. He is a proud member of Spid, a swim club for disabled people. To get to the swim club his parents have to drive him 48 miles, 70 kilometers 3 times week which is a lot to ask for his parents, His dad a steel factory worker and his mom unemployed. This shows that many countries like Bosnia have habits to ignore disabled people and not help them, make adjustments or, let them be a part of society. It is vile, to hear such big country with an area of 51,197 km² barely have any opportunities for disabled people. This is a problem not only in Bosnia but in many other countries. David Isaac, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said: “There is a real concern that disabled people are being increasingly marginalised and shut out of society as they bear the brunt of the accumulated impact of cuts in public spending, David Isaac, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said: “There is a real concern that disabled people are being

In conclusion, disabled people should not be excluded from society. Disabled people deserved to be treated like any other person and not feel isolated from a community. Disabled people should be able to feel part of our society and not left out or ignored. They should be able to join regular activities going on without feeling different. Disabled people should not be constantly judged just because of their physical disabilities. If you ever do see a disabled person being discriminated or having a hard time, take action for them, talk to them, treat them like anyone else, because they are.

The Work of Disabilities By: Noah Rust “Attacking people with disabilities is the lowest display of power I can think of,” ‐ Morgan Freeman announced. Morgan Freeman suffers from a disability, his hand is paralysed from a car crash he got into. Why I think he said this quote is because he had heard of kids that get tormented for having a disability. I don’t want kids have to suffer the pain getting tormented for having a disability. They have to suffer for that disability for the rest of their individual lives and that makes no one joyful. Individuals with disabilities should not be excluded from other groups or treated badly. Minors with disabilities often believe they should not participate in sports. But not for Rosie McRackan in the article For 6‐year‐old girl, T‐ball shows her a life without limits produced by Newsela Rosie is missing her entire right leg and some of her left forearm but she still keeps going shes a tee‐ball player “She loves T‐ball, and she believes she’s just as good as any other player on that team.” stated Jessica McRackan Rosie’s mother. Rosie played for the bluejays. In my opinion the sky's the limit for her she is a great example of how to never give up she is playing tee‐ball like any other tee‐ball player she also played by the same rules as everyone else. Her disabilities don’t look like to be slowing her down anytime soon. Tormenting kids with disabilities is not acceptable. Take Bo Paske for example he has autism so it's hard for him to communicate with other individuals and to make friends with them. One day a Florida State University (FSU) football player saw Bo sitting alone and lunch so he went over to him sat down. They had a long conversation “ It was real easy. You'd never think anything was wrong with him. He had a nice smile on his face. Just a really warm person." stated Travis Rudolph from Newsela. After this event Bo was sitting with a lot of people making friends. Don’t let anyone feel excluded or left out make them happy not lonely. People like Bo need people to help them get through the tough times.
Page 13 In conclusion, citizens with disabilities should not be abandoned from other societies or tormented poorly. Rosie McRackan and Bo Paske both show how hard it is to have a disability but they show how to never look back and just keep going they learned that the hard way. If you see someone with a disability getting tormented or doing something do something to help go prevent the bullying from happening or cheer for those that are doing great, in this world we are one.
