ADULT LEAGUES

The Park District offers adult leagues at a variety of competitive levels to accommodate players and teams with a range of recreational interests and abilities. All players must be 18 years or older.

Registration

One player registers an entire team, and all fees are due at registration. Register for your preferred level and, if that level is full, register for the wait list. Do NOT register for the wrong competitive level to get into a league. If you are a player looking to join a team, please contact the league supervisor.

Bracketing and Scheduling

Once registration closes, we create brackets and season schedules. Final brackets are determined by a variety of factors, including the number of teams registered and past season records. • We try our best to evenly assign game time slots and cannot accommodate special schedule requests. • Once schedules are finalized, we will email a schedule link, season information, and team roster/ waiver instructions to the captain.

Rosters and Waivers

Your team roster also serves as the individual waiver for all players, and a new roster with all players’ signatures must be submitted before the start of your first game EVERY season.

Fall Softball Leagues

Fall leagues will begin the week of August 15. All games for fall leagues will be played on synthetic turf fields at Melas Park Sports Complex 6:30-10:30pm. (NW) Code 62467 62468 62471 62472 62473 62470 62474 62465 62466

SWIM LESSONS Our aquatics team believes swimming is lifelong.

And a life skill. Water safety should be a priority for every family. Maybe you intentionally flip turned to this page because you have prioritized swim lessons and water safety into your summer schedule. Maybe you streamlined across this page because you’re simply flowing through the entire Program Guide. Jump on in, the water is nice. There’s something on the next page for everyone of all ages (well, at least for those six months old and older ). Any of the classes on the following pages are for you if you vacation around water, want your kids to feel safe around water, your kids want to swim in high school, or you or you kids are training for an triathlon — be sure to check out our kids’ triathlon, late summer 2022.

What should I sign up for:

Water Babies 6-24 months with one parent in water with baby. 30 min. Start exposing your baby to a body of water bigger than the kitchen sink now! This will help them better adjust to swimming lessons in a few years. We use songs and games to relax your baby and hopefully squeeze out a smile. We introduce holding positions so you are comfortable holding your baby in water. Water Toddlers 2-4 yrs with one parent in water with child. 30 min. We add on to our Water Babies class format by introducing skills that will take place in our Junior Swim School classes. Junior Swim School. 3-6 yrs. 3:1 ratio. No parent in water. 30 min. For most – it’s the first time a child enters a pool without a parent so we begin by making your child feel comfortable. This may look like simply focusing on getting the face and hair wet at first, which can be scary for some. Then progressing through supported floats, bobs, kick board use, and eventually swimming 3 yards with no assistance. No goggles. Adjusting to water and learning to feel safe without goggles is a skill in these levels.

26

Swim School. 5-12 yrs. 5:1 ratio. 30 min. A group environment to motivate your child. Children are evaluated on the first day and grouped with kids of a similar skill set. Our first level begins with correct face and body position, floats, and opening eyes underwater without goggles. Your child will then progress through levels where all the swim strokes are introduced and eventually working towards treading in deep water, dives, and flip turns. Private Swim Lessons. 5 years and older. 1:1 ratio. Great idea for a child looking to prefect that flip turn, or a stroke they struggle with. Great supplement for Interpark Swim Team. Also perfect for adults looking for tips to enhance their endurance, or tweak a stroke for that triathlon. Individualized instruction designed to fit you or your swimmer’s needs. You tell us your goals on the first day. Semi-Private Swim School. 5-12 years. 2:1 Ratio. 30 min. Same description as Private Swim Lessons. Only difference is the ratio. Instructor will take turns between the two participants’ needs.

Who is teaching my child?

Almost all of our instructors are currently local high school or college students. Their energy is through the roof and they love their jobs and working with kids. Many are high school and college swimmers and quite a few are interested in a career specializing in early childhood and/or teaching. We aim for our swimming lesson program to be a highlight of your child’s summer. And that is only possible because of our young staff. For many, this is their first job and they are eager to succeed. If we didn’t answer your question, please reach out to Angela, Aquatic Supervisor – Swim Lessons, 847577-3029. For real time updates on our swim lesson program, no class dates, inclement weather policy, refund policy: ahpd.org/programs/swim-lessons/

HISTORY NEVER ENDS H I S T O R I C A L S O C I E T Y C E L E B R AT E S 6 5 Y E A R S

In 1957, a small group of Arlington Heights citizens decided that our village’s history needed to be preserved. They quickly organized and chartered the Arlington Heights Historical Society, and began collecting artifacts and stories. Sixty-five years later, that seed of an idea has grown to over 50,000 artifacts preserved and displayed in five museum buildings, and a community partnership that includes the Historical Society, the Park District, and the Village to keep and preserve our village history at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum. A special exhibit is planned to highlight the Historical Society’s origins, development, and continued growth.

The original map of Bradley, later renamed Dunton, and now known as Arlington Heights, was one of the first artifacts collected by AHHS.

The Arlington Heights Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and presenting the heritage of Arlington Heights. The Society is a volunteer, member-funded organization that is a partner of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum. See page 66 for membership information.
