WHO?

HOW? Incoming Social Internships Programme The Global Community Development Programme is an opportunity for young people to develop entrepreneurial and responsible leadership qualities and skills. A young volunteer travels across the world to go through a cultural learning experience while working for projects and NGO’s that aim to create positive impact in society based on specific issues (ex. education, sustainability, community development etc.)

WHY?

WHY? Social Problem definition: Due to social and economical crisis the past years Greece’s youth unemployment rate had become higher and higher, now in 2014 youth unemployment has reached 57.70% for young people between 18-29 years old. The main mismatch that leads to this rate is the gap between the educational system and the expectations that young people below 29 years old have and the employer’s expectations. Employers look for flexibility, broadband thinking, multicultural perspective, communication skills, entrepreneurial spirit etc., unfortunately these are the skills that most young people lack.

WHY? Greek educational system has difficulties in preparing young people for getting a job or helping them with better career orientation which leads to choosing careers that are not suitable for young people. Researchers from ALBA tell us that we should start this preparation beginning with secondary education, there being the point where young people form their main behaviors and take the first step for their future careers.

Non-formal Education

HOW? Researches have discovered that non-formal education is able to help young people to develop the skills and attitudes need in order for them to understand themselves better, hence to perform better in their daily activities. Also, nonformal education is linked with the concept of lifelong learning, which means that learning can be seen as something that takes place on an on-going basis from our daily interactions with others and with the world around us. Main advantages of non-formal education: -helps young people discover their potential and become more self-confident -enables young people to perform better according to their strengths -helps developing communication skills and team work -helps in creating an entrepreneurial spirit -enhances their emotional intelligence -helps them discover ways of learning continuously from various sources

HOW?

Our mission The aim of the project is to provide international volunteers ,with educational background, that will work for 5 weeks in Greek schools and high-schools, in order to help pupils to gain practical knowledge on the skills and attitudes that are highly useful for their future, both personal and professional. Also, they will be able to understand better their own strengths and weaknesses and how they can capitalize on this in order to help them to create a career plan and develop, from an early age, the skills that the companies are looking for in an employee.
