“Never doubt that a small group of though4ul, commi8ed ci9zens can change the world... “

PRESIDENT’S FOREWORD

- Margaret Mead

Dear AIESEC UK, I s/ll remember four years ago stumbling across AIESEC at university -“we envision the peace and fulfilment of humankind’s poten/al”, does that set your soul on fire? For the ones that this statement does they found their perfect place to dedicate their /me and energy for towards a good cause. I look back at the year and see the hundreds of volunteers we have with that energy working towards a common cause. I would describe the year in three words: change, adaptability and unity. This marked the first year where we, as part of a global organisa/on, were working towards one common goal, the AIESEC 2020 vision to bring us one step closer towards our long term vision of peace and fulfilment of humankind’s poten/al. We challenged all levels of the organisa/on from the structure, to our /meline and the way we run our programmes and engage the youth.

In this annual report you’ll find the meaning for the power of youth. Someone once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughPul, commiQed ci/zens can change the world, indeed it’s the only thing that ever has” and nowhere does that reflect beQer than in AIESEC where our volunteers across the UK do their best to develop leadership in youth through our various programmes. One thing that makes this organisa/on beau/ful is the yearly rota/on that provides leadership opportuni/es to a large number of young people. We are excited to see what the year ahead has to offer as they con/nue towards the AIESEC 2020 ambi/on and we wish them the best of luck. Thank you to all our local chapters, volunteers, na/onal partners and our directors who con/nued to support us to push AIESEC UK forward. I wish you the best of luck!

In February 2017, AIESEC UK commenced a fixed-term project with our developers team to improve our customer journey. We recognised that two issues persisted with our previous online signup form: i)

Our value proposiJon was not easily accessible to our potenJal customers.

ii) ii) We were not collecJng customer data which could help us tailor and improve our services. We began to use Podio as our customer management system as well as improved how our interface connected with the global website - aiesec.org. This greatly improved how we supported our customers.

“When the 'mannequin challenge' took the internet by storm, I thought "why not bring AIESEC into it?" AIESECfying our 'mannequin challenge', AIESEC in Cardiff incorporated various country flags, a passport, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. Each person chose the Goal which resonated with them the most, and made their own 'mannequin challenge' poses. In a classic university student way, this video was created out of spontaneity and goodwill. We were surprised by the aWenJon and aWracJon we gained through the video. We had no budget, and this was edited by a member of ours who had video filming as a hobby. Moreover, we were incredibly humbled by how other local commiWees in India and Egypt requested whether they could use the video in their own promoJonal purposes. This was a true instance where we felt like we were a part of a global youth-led movement. Each me we crossed another 5,000 views, we would celebrate! Since then, our spirit has remained high as we learned our potenJal reach just through simple ideas. The fact that our Local CommiWee operated on a limited budget gave us a new sense of confidence. My members further felt they could pitch any of their ideas and they had the freedom to innovate. We are surely excited about how we can lead and contribute to AIESEC in the upcoming term.” - Rory Wade, Local CommiQee President of Cardiff

This 16/17 term, we partnered with Prospects and Graduate Recruitment Bureau to help boost our presence among students and recent graduates in UK universiJes. We would like to thank Bliss, Prospects and Graduate Recruitment Bureau for assisJng us with our objecJves this term.

YOUTH CONTRIBUTION Our membership programme is aimed at those between 18-30 in the UK, and we offer them a pracJcal experience in the management of team within an organisaJon. The naJonal commiWee pioneers and gives advice on strategy, leaving room for our local university branches to run day-to-day operaJons. Our membership is on-the-ground, ensuring our organisaJon achieves our impact. Through an intense pracJcal learning experience like ours, the young person develops him or herself personally and professionally.

“Coming to university, I was hoping to find myself and grow as an individual. AIESEC did exactly that for me. Since joining AIESEC, I am now more open to new experiences, conscien3ous and agreeable.”

Our membership has the opportunity to aWend naJonal conferences. These conferences act as space for young people to build capacity on how to best run their operaJons, improve their management and leadership skills, as well as network and connect with like-minded individuals across the UK. This year, we successfully organised 3 naJonal conferences, with more than 500 delegates across the UK aWending them overall.

GLOBAL MEMBERS

Join To Lead is our membership programme, through which we strive to ensure that young people learn-by-doing, as well as explore and develop their leadership qualiJes through pracJcal team experience. Each year, our recruited membership has the opportunity to be elected into a leadership team to lead within their local chapter and charter its sustainable growth. This year, we standardised our elecJon process to ensure a fair process throughout the UK.

A major strategy of the 2016-17 term was to deliver the full AIESEC experience to our members. For us, this also included sending our members on exchange in the Global Member iniJaJve. So far, 62 members have conďŹ rmed their exchanges for this summer. Here are the top desJnaJon they are going for

THE STORY OF YOUTH

Global Volunteer is a 6-8 week programme connecJng youth to social projects around the world. We believe that the most powerful way to learn something is to experience it pracJcally. Under complete cultural immersion and in challenging new environments, young people are able to increase their level of self-awareness, ability to empower others, be soluJon oriented and become a world ciJzen. In the 2016-17 term, the Global Volunteer programme evolved. For the first Jme in history, customers were able to officially confirm a place on their desired summer voluntary project in the first semester of University, allowing plenty of Jme to prepare for their upcoming endeavour. Outgoing preparaJon evolved beyond just physical seminars to the availability of virtual and one-to-one preparaJon. This summer, more than 300 young people are travelling to tens of countries for volunteering projects. These range from teaching children in Vietnam to supporJng the development of NGOs in Brazil. The young volunteers are able to directly contribute to the Global Goals for 2030. They address global issues hands-on in local communiJes, acquire new so\ skills, develop a sense of world ciJzenship, and ulJmately have a posiJve impact on the society they are hosted by.

I met amazing people, integrated into a very interes3ng culture and discovered a lot of things about myself I didn't know before. Egypt has been a home for me and I will definitely come again." THE STORY OF OUR PARTN E R S

GLOBAL TALENT INCOMING | FOR COMPANIES

Local Commi^ees which have opened OpportuniAes in the 16/17 term:

As the United Kingdom is one of the most internaJonal and globalised markets in the world, it goes without saying that the needs of the workforce are diverse, demanding and of course, ever increasing.

Local CommiGee Spotlight of The Year:

In the term 16.17, AIESEC UK has conJnued to connect local, naJonal and global companies with internaJonal youth talent from a large number of backgrounds. The naJonal office has focused on delivering excellence to our tradiJonal partners, whilst welcoming new ones. Regardless, at the core, we ensure high-quality experiences for the interns coming to the UK. From the start, we offer a recepJon element: train staJon pick-up, 5-night accommodaJon and a variant agenda for cultural integraJon. We would like to take this occasion and thank AIESEC in University College London for their commitment to ensure the start of our Co-Delivery Model. AIESEC UCL has created a team for the delivery of these interns’ recepJon and organised an Incoming PreparaJon Seminar in April.

AIESEC Manchester | AIESEC UCL | AIESEC LSE | AISEC in LSE | AISEC in Bristol

AIESEC in Manchester AIESEC in Manchester has gone from 0 partnerships in the past three years to signing four Global Talent contracts and bringing four interns in their city. They have partnered with niche Mandarin-speaking organisa/ons and have supplied three interns in three different companies, and have also placed an IT trainee from the US in a 4th organisa/on. We would like to congratulate AIESEC Manchester for showing to the AIESEC UK network that all it takes to grow incoming Global Talent into their city is a passion for the department, no excuses and genuine commitment.

Our Partners and Supporters: The local offices have seen a strong re-focus with the implementaJon of the new OrganisaJonal Development Model. At present, seven Local CommiWees run the Global Talent program for companies with highlights as follows:

THE STORY OF OUR PARTN E R S

From August 2016 to June 2017, our NaJonal OďŹƒce has opened 48 opportuniJes, approved 36 and realised 32 experiences. This year, we focused on streamlining the processes of Global Talent and updaJng our Jmeline to support the fast-paced market of London. We worked on a clear synergy with the local oďŹƒces on a 100% co-delivery of the exchange standards of the internships both for naJonal and global accounts, and we legislated all necessary internal rules to support this process for the years to come. We also work closely with the AIESEC InternaJonal team, with co-delivering accounts and seeking always for new opportuniJes in the market. We would like to especially recognise the following partners: Allegion UK, for being upscaled to becoming a Global AIESEC Partner

Global Volunteer Scholarship With the Global Volunteer Scholarship, we offer the chance for the corporate sector to support young talents to parJcipate in the program, strengthen their employer branding and enhance their corporate social responsibility towards relevant social issues. The first pilot of the project will run for five exchange parJcipants for projects concerning climate acJon and affordable and clean energy, during the period of January - February 2018, with the support of AIESEC in Spain and Iberdrola Spain. We are looking forward to seeing this new addiJon to our porbolio grow and provide more meaningful experiences to young people who would like to volunteer for social issues.

THE STORY OF OUR PARTN E R S

Conference engagement A core part of our membership's learning experience involves meeJng at naJonal conferences to share, learn and grow together as a network. We partner with organisaJons who welcome the youth’s perspecJve and we co-create engagement spaces with them during our conferences. We have conJnued great partnerships with organisaJons that add value to our membership educaJon and training plan. We would like to recognise especially QS for their internship award and IE Business School for their informaJve workshop. Moreover, we have introduced a new partnership, Yolt by ING, who joined us for a workshop on Agile Scrum Methodology as well as gave us access to test the beta version of their applicaJon and offered a summer internship to our members. We further supported the official launch of the Koreo Prize during our conference in October, an opportunity for young people in the UK to show fresh takes on complex issues underpinned by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Partners and Supporters:

ACCESS TIER 5 The government authorised exchange category was set up in 2008 for people coming to the UK through approved schemes that aim to share knowledge, experience and best pracJce, and to experience the social and cultural life of the UK. Access Tier 5 is a Government Approved Exchange (GAE) programme designed specifically to allow undergraduates and graduates from countries outside the EEA to gain experience working in the UK for a maximum of 12-24 months. It gives UK employers an opportunity to hire the best and the brightest talent from overseas on key iniJaJves and to learn key skills they can take back to their home country. It is also a great route to gauge employer – candidate compaJbility before both sides commit to a more permanent posiJon.

By year ending 31.12.16, Access Tier 5 sponsored 351 internaAonal migrants from 54 countries. 207 of these 351 InternaJonal migrants studied in the UK across 62 UK UniversiJes. Some of Access Tier 5’s newest presAgious clients for the year 2016/17 were: -
