GOING BEYOND THE NOTES

The power of music

Aiglon’s ethos, the balanced development of mind, body and spirit, is fully expressed through mastering the piano, enriching the mind, engaging the body, and nourishing the spirit.

Aiglon’s distinctive guiding principles embody the holistic educational ethos of our founder John Corlette. Our approach combines an outstanding academic record with extensive programmes covering expeditions, the arts, sport, cultural and service programmes. Our goal is to take Aiglonians on a journey of self discovery and nurture respectful global citizens with a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. Through our 2028 Vision, we are challenging ourselves to protect Aiglon’s unique ethos for generations to come. We will focus on enhancing diversity through our scholarship programme, reinforcing character by enhancing Mind, Body and Spirit and developing our campus facilities to ensure our entire educational programme is continually enhanced. As part of this vision, we aim to become an All Steinway School, using exclusively Steinway & Sons pianos for all aspects of our music programme. This committment to excellence will provide our students with the highest quality pianos possible and will foster the creativity and soft skills which will be increasingly important for the next generations.

Aiglon: All Steinway

There are very few areas of education where a single piece of equipment is unequivocally the best and would elevate our students’ experience during their formative years as young musicians.

At Aiglon we use the words “world-class” regularly; this is because they encapsulate the experience we want to give our students. By becoming an All Steinway school, we would join less than 50 schools world-wide and be the only one in Switzerland to offer this level of quality to our students. Aiglon is full of talented and committed pianists. In fact, the piano is the most popular instrument in the school with 75 piano students and over 100 lessons each week. The school’s pianists regularly perform in concerts, our school’s music competition, piano recitals, assemblies and as accompanists for other students. Many of our students appreciate the piano in a very deep way, finding pleasure in repertoire that crosses continents and centuries. Our aim is to become an All Steinway school which is a prestigious designation given to educational institutions that exclusively use Steinway & Sons pianos for their music programme. To earn this title, the school must commit to using Steinway & Sons pianos throughout their facilities, including practice rooms, classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues. Being recognised as an All Steinway School reflects a dedication to providing students with the highest quality pianos and elevating the overall standard of music education at the institution.

GOING BEYOND THE NOTES

For almost twenty five years Aiglon has generously given me access to the Music Department to prepare my recordings and concert tours while visiting Villars. The department is growing and flourishing and the quality of musical instruments is crucial for development. Being in contact with beautiful sounds increases the students’ ability to refine their hearing and to make them more aware of all the finesses of sound production.

Will you help us go beyond?

Your gift of a Steinway & Sons piano will elevate our music programme and empower students and educators alike, creating a more enriching and transformative musical journey at Aiglon. Aiglon is actively seeking donors who believe in going beyond the ordinary to support our music program by gifting 6 pianos to the school. Your generous contribution will not only enrich the educational experience of our students but also play a pivotal role in fostering a lifelong love for music within our learning community. At an additional cost, all Steinway instruments can be personalied, offering a myriad of options, including custom case designs with various colours and woods, as well as bespoke gold embossing. This unique opportunity allows donors to have their name or special message become an integral part of the instrument. Hand crafted Steinway pianos can last well over 100 years before requiring significant refurbishment. Investing in a Steinway is a truly enduring commitment, ensuring that numerous generations of students will continue to benefit. 6
