About 400 million workers in India, working in the informal economy, are at risk of falling deeper into poverty during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) reports that the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting 2.7 billion workers globally due to lockdowns. COVID-19 is already affecting tens of millions of informal workers. In India, Nigeria and Brazil, the number of workers in the informal economy affected by the lockdown and other containment measures is substantial. In India, nearly 90 per cent of the people work in the informal economy and about 400 million of these are at risk. Particularly in low- and middle-income countries, hard-hit sectors have a high proportion of workers in informal employment and workers with limited access to health services and social protection. Without appropriate policy measures, workers face a high risk of falling into poverty and will experience greater challenges in regaining their livelihoods during the recovery period. Employment contraction has already begun on a large (often unprecedented) scale in many countries. In the absence of other data, changes in working hours, which reflect both layoffs and other temporary reductions in working time, give a better picture about the dire reality of the current labour market situation. Using this approach, as of 1 April 2020, the ILO's new global estimates indicate that working hours will decline by 6.7 per cent in the second quarter of 2020, which is equivalent to 195 million full-time workers. IATA says 25 mn jobs in aviation, related sectors at risk. International Air Transport Association on Tuesday predicted that some 25 million jobs globally are at risk with airline shutdown due to Covid-19 crisis. Accordingly, a new analysis by IATA shows that some 25 million jobs are at risk of disappearing with plummeting demand for air travel amid the COVID-19 crisis. Out of the 25 million jobs at risk, 11.2 million are in Asia-Pacific, 5.6 million in Europe, 2.9 million in Latin America, 2 million in North America, 2 million in Africa and 0.9 million in the Middle East. In the same scenario, airlines are expected to see full year passenger revenues fall by $252 billion (-44 per cent) in 2020 compared to 2019. The second quarter is the most critical with demand falling 70 per cent at its worst point, and airlines burning through $61 billion in cash. Classic Marble Company (CMC) has introduced a premium KalingaStone quartz product - the Nuvolato White from the Venata collection. The rich white quartz slab exhibits fine grey veining across the surface for a minimalist, refined appearance. The meandering grey streaks of brilliance traverse throughout the quartz surface that perfectly complement and beautify the white slab. Apt for kitchen countertop applications, the Nuvolato White is a hard and durable product that is also eye candy. Beautifully crafted asymmetrical veining patterns make the Nuvolato White a unique masterpiece. The new offering from CMC uplifts the glamour quotient of modern living spaces.

The slabs can be made to desired shapes and sizes and are compatible applications for sink and hob fittings. A finelooking blend of décor and utility, the product range from the Venata Collection are a superlative choice for applications in modern kitchens.

An engineered material, Quartz slabs are extremely strong and hard, hygienic, non-porous, and popularly installed in applications that demand durability with aesthetics. The material is stain-resistant as well as is resistant to wear and tear including scratching. This minimizes the need for any special maintenance. Particularly in kitchens, Quartz slabs are an ideal choice since the stone does not corrode or discolour despite coming in direct contact with alkali or acids or other regular kitchen spills. LOUNGE COLLECTION

ETHIMO, MATTEO THUN AND ANTONIO RODRIGUEZ ALLAPERTO Allaperto, the lounge collection spawned by the partnership between Ethimo, Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, which has become iconic for the different ‘outfits’ with which it interprets the places that host it, continues its transformation in two new moods, Veranda and Nautic, pairing teak, respectively, with natural rattan and rope.

24| Architecture & Interiors International Panorama

July - September 2020

LOUNGE COLLECTION Allaperto Veranda dresses the lounge armchair in rattan, offering an example of the increasingly eco-friendly approach that focuses on the choice of materials with a rather vintage feel. The natural rattan weave is a perfect match for the transitional spaces between indoors and outdoors, such as porticos or verandas. Areas which today, in our everyday lives, become a veritable extension of the comfort offered by our interiors, with an innate ability to surprise, also in contemporary exterior design. The special texture of natural rattan and its sophisticated weave help create a charming “exotic” effect in the semiopen spaces that host this new version of the Allaperto armchair. Allaperto Nautic, the second new outfit designed with Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, stylesthe entire lounge, combining teak with polypropylene rope, a 100% outdoor, recyclable material. The Nautic mood is inspired by the maritime world, and pairs precious teak with an artisan herringbone weave in rope, endowing chairs and sofas with a distinctive personality that boosts the appeal of their slender lines.

July - September 2020

The characteristic weave of Veranda and Nautic is entirely hand-made, conveying an authentic sartorial feel and the sense of an artisan crafting process. For 2021, the Allaperto collection is also enriched by another important new addition: a suspended armchair emblem of an outdoor environment made of lightness, in full harmony with the flexibility of the natural world. The new suspended armchair, also available in the swing version with self-bearing stand, can be personalised in Rattan (Veranda mood), rope (Nautic mood ) or Etwick fibre (Mountain mood), paired with the teak frame that characterises the entire Allaperto collection. Its generous dimensions combine with a solid frame, creating a brand new proposal ideal for “swinging” carefree in the open air in maximum comfort. Allaperto confirms its identity as a surprising, dynamic collection that reinvents itself according to the latest trends and the context that hosts it, generating a range of different experiences for enjoying outdoor spaces with maximum effect.
