Athens Airport-I love Greece tapestry

On June 23rd, Athens International Airport unveiled a tapestry named “I Love Greece” in the arrivals hall in the presence of VIPs, including music artist “Sting.”

It sounds like a destination marketing ad celebrating the beauty of the country, but it’s not. Instead, it is artwork designed by Greek artist Sophia Vari, which supports Amnesty International’s “I Welcome” campaign.

Despite suffering a major economic downturn over the past few years, Greece was often the first stop for refugees fleeing Syria and other countries from 2015 onwards

According to Athens Airport, “ the Greek welcome offered to hundreds of thousands of men, women and children from Syria fleeing war and persecution, at a difficult point in time for Greece itself, the tapestry will be on permanent display in the arrivals hall of Athens International Airport, for millions of passengers to pass by it, reflect and remember.
