We would like you to feel at home whenever you travel with our airline. Adv. Mandi Ellaine P. Samson Acting Managing Director
Dear Esteemed Passengers, Traditionally, the month of February is celebrated internationally as a month of “LOVE”. Being an international airline, Air Namibia will be joining the whole world in celebrating the power of love, and this will be our theme for the month. We embrace this special month through showing endearing love and appreciation to those who are dear and close to our hearts. As our loyal passengers, we wish to pause and show you that we deeply care about you and greatly appreciate your continued support. William Shakespeare wrote in one of his poems titled “Love’s Labour” that “When Love speaks the voice of all the Gods, makes heaven drowsy with the harmony”. With that in mind, as our most treasured passengers, we would like you to feel at home whenever you travel with our airline. There is no doubt, that we are your preferred carrier of choice and when flying with us, we would wish you to experience the love and harmony which is synonymous with the Namibian tradition of service excellence.
Excellent service delivery is the only differentiator in this industry. We therefore wish to commend and pay special tribute to all the Air Namibia employees who are part of making sure that passengers enjoy the “Air Namibia Experience.” A special word however needs to be said about our crew, (both cabin and cockpit crew) as well as the ground staff, during this month of articulating love and showing appreciation. We have entrusted the crew and ground staff, who are indeed the “public face” of the airline, with the responsibility of providing personal services to you to ensure your safety and comfort whilst on board our aircraft. We recognise their efforts which ensure that each journey travelled with us is a pleasurable event. Thank you for flying Air Namibia. We promise to do everything we can to ensure that you have an enjoyable flight. If you have any queries or need assistance, please feel free to ask one of our cabin crew members. We look forward to welcome you on board again soon.
Our dedicated crew and staff are always prepared to offer you a great service, to ensure you enjoy comfort and are relaxed when you are travelling with Air Namibia.

Baggage Guidelines
At Air Namibia we are committed to ensuring that our passengers are re-united with their luggage at end of their journey. Given the complexity of the environment in which we operate, passengers’ luggage often gets out of our control and care, (for brief moments when they are subjected to control and handling by various agencies.) It is for this reason we request passengers to check their luggage on point of arrival (immediately after collecting their bag) to ensure that bag was not tampered with; and to report any suspected losses immediately. We request passengers not to check-in valuable items, especially those that are susceptible to theft, such as cash, jewellery, electronic devices like mobile phones, watches, sunglasses, to mention a few. In line with International Industry Conventions on passenger baggage liability, Air Namibia cannot be held liable if these valuable items are pilfered from checked-in baggage. We encourage our passengers to lock or wrap their bags where possible.
Our rules pertaining to baggage include the following We offer our passengers a generous free hand baggage allowance, with maximum weight of 10kg each, and maximum size 55 x 38 x 20 cm; plus an overcoat, an umbrella, a walking stick, a ladies hand bag, a reasonable amount of reading material, and a laptop. We also allow a fully collapsible wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches as hand baggage.

Tell us about you and your personal history and what led you to the type of ‘social’ architecture you’re working on now? I was 19 years old when I founded Orkidstudio, along with two fellow students (now no longer involved having pursued other career paths since) – we did it in response to the architectural education we were receiving and the profession as we saw it at that time. We found a frustration in those early formative years of study. Architectural projects seemed to relentlessly focus on one-off buildings for wealthy private clients
or

works.
Architects, it seemed, rarely helped the poor and good design appeared to be a privilege rather than a benefit accessible to all. I
remember
reading
somewhere
towards the end of my first year of study that architects only designed around 10% of the buildings in the UK. Accurate or not, this figure shocked me. It made me wonder that if a country as

follow in the years after. We became hugely reliant on the local community and tradesmen. We learned far more from them than we could have ever hoped to offer in return, and this understanding of the value in people and community has underpinned our work to date. I grew up in Scotland, near Glasgow, and studied in Wales, however, I had been fortunate enough to travel widely at a young age. My parents’ jobs involved plenty of travel and we often ended up in unexpected and far flung parts of the world. I think this early understanding of the world beyond my front doorstep certainly informed my later career and principles.

Educate: Architecture is more than just the final product. We believe that the process of building can be used as a platform for exchanging skills and knowledge to develop new and innovative methods of construction, which respond better to climate and local economies. We also do not see ourselves as an architecture practice. At least half of our team comes from different backgrounds, ranging from international development, economics, programming, marketing and business. We see this as a hugely important and defining characteristic – architecture in low-income nations has become increasingly popular and ‘in vogue’ recently

In a country where agriculture (livestock or crop farming) is the primary source of income and trade, land or livestock ownership is one of the most valuable assets you can obtain, offering security, subsistence and an opportunity to prosper. In March 2015, we purchased a plot of land and built Hellen’s House. a storm and in desperate need of a safe harbour. Then, one morning, I woke up to an epic sunrise. Living in South Florida I was used to them but this one was special. I went out onto the balcony and felt the strong presence of my wife in that amazing scene. I snapped a picture with my phone and decided to share it with my friends on Facebook. The next day I was compelled to do the same. Soon after, I was capturing every sunrise and posting them on social media. People’s reactions were surprising and their positive comments lifted my spirit. A friend of mine suggested that I take my interest more seriously, so at 39 years of age I bought my first semi-pro DSLR and took a couple of lessons with a local photographer to learn the basics.
26 |
I will never forget the very first time I pressed the shutter of my camera. Not because of the stunning sunrise that I was able to capture (beginner’s luck) but rather because of the unexpected effect it had on me. That press of the button ignited a flame in my heart. A flame which quickly became a wild fire that roared inside my soul. Photography not only became a much needed distraction, but it also helped me to express my feelings and my pain in a way that I felt comfortable with. At first, the subjects I decided to shoot and the titles I used for my images reflected the darkness that wandered in my life, but gradually my pictures started to show some hints of light and hope, a clear sign that my recovery was in process. I became obsessed and addicted to photography. My entire time was devoted to studying and learning as much as I

The days of my semi-pro camera are long gone. I now own several pro-cameras, a sturdy tripod and a wide array of pro-lenses but although they have helped me improve the sharpness and quality of my prints ten-fold, it’s my passion and not technology that drive my photography. My style is strongly influenced by the work of both classic and contemporary photographers. Art Wolfe, Joseph Rossbach and Alex Noriega are but three of the artists I most admire. I have no other goal than to add value to people’s lives by sharing images from the most beautiful and bizarre places around the world. To elicit strong emotions in those who view my photographs. To make them feel as if they are standing right there beside me. However, it is often said that photography should serve a higher purpose. If so, I wish to motivate people to go out and explore the natural world as I did. To connect with it in their own special way and to protect it, for our sake and that of future generations. I hope my story proves that it is never too late to find and pursue a passion. I also hope that it serves as an example of how life, while unpredictable and sometimes fierce, can always provide a second chance or, as I like to call it, a second life.

But we almost never do share these with the person concerned. Because at the moment, there’s a real fear the person would take it the wrong way – as a cruel attack, rather than as an attempt to help. It would seem to leave one open to a reciprocal attack – which, again, feels too threatening. Really, the only place where we buck this trend is in relationships; the rest of the time we are basically avoidant; we give up on people, suffer in silence or change jobs. This inefficiency costs everyone a lot. It’s a situation where a great deal of important information is in the ether, but it can’t be tapped into effectively because we lack the skill to do so. Audi-licious! A compact SUV that's big on performance and quality.... By: James Siddall
| 69
I
t might be the smallest of Audi's much-vaunted Q models – the others
being the Q5 and Q7. But it has all the engineering integrity, excellence, and appeal of its bigger siblings. Indeed, following a recent upgrade this compact premium SUV is now more covetable than ever, with its retina-swivelling 3D-design front grille, and revised bumpers and headlights, plus redesigned LED taillights. What's more, there's a new base model – although the term “base” is a bit of misnomer for a machine of this calibre. This comes in the guise of the 1.4-litre 110kW model which can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed S tronic transmission, with power going to the front wheels. Full LED headlights are offered as an option – and yes, they really do turn night into day – while as with the rest of the Q3 range there's ample seating for five adults, plus 460 litres of boot capacity. Fold down the split rear seatbacks, meanwhile, and this increases to a massive 1 365 litres. A little higher up the Q3 scale lies the 2.0T FSI 132kW, and the 2.0 TDI 135kW. And to complete the range there's the RSQ3 2.5T FSI - a real go-devil of a machine putting out an electrifying 250kW. All these models employ Audi's legendary quattro drivetrain, as well as S tronic self-shifting transmissions. Levels of equipment are simply superb, as are safety levels, while the driving experience is decidedly premium. Get behind the wheel of a Q3 - any Q3 – and you'll have little doubt that you're piloting a machine wearing the hallowed four rings.

Rhino Facts: In the late 1970s aggressive poaching took the Namibian Black Rhino to the brink of extinction. Thousands of rhino were slaughtered to satisfy the demand for fashion accessories and oriental medicines. By the early 1980s the population had plummeted from 65,000 to just 60. The ‘Rhino for Erongo’ project was established to reintroduce and conserve rhino in the Erongo region, reintroducing Black Rhino into the area after the last of its kind was caught in 1974. For every bottle of OASIS sold a contribution is made to the ‘Rhino for Erongo’ project, helping to conserve and protect these beautiful creatures.

descendants, the Sumbanese people have called this area Ngihiwatu. The Ngihiwatu stands today, amongst a group of stones on the beach about three hundred metres past the Boathouse. The largest stone of the group, called the Prahu, is believed to be the ship that the descendants arrived on. It stands about sixty metres past the creek and three metres above the sand. Closer to the forest from the Prahu is the Ngihiwatu, and behind it is a larger rectangular-shaped stone called TempatIstirahat, or resting place. The TempatIstirahat was the Gods’ day bed

Scubus S: The world’s first augmented reality scuba diving mask We have a great submission, it’s an augmented reality scuba diving mask that allows a diver to communicate with other team members easier. You can read a detail description below in the designer’s own words. From the very beginning we had a vision for the world’s first augmented reality scuba diving mask, which by itself is one of a kind already. But we didn’t want to stop there. Since most of our team members are scuba diving enthusiasts, we are well aware of how limited underwater communication is. It boils down to hand signals that scuba divers have to learn and use in order to communicate. It’s far from perfect and sometimes it can be pretty challenging. For example, you can get mixed up or forget the signs. The other divers can misinterpret them and besides to communicate you have

Only one in nine Namibians save for retirement in the form of a pension or provident fund. 88% will need help from the government or their family. Almost 5% of our nation is disabled. More than half not being able to find a job. FundsAtWork can assist you, as a business owner, to help your employees to close their retirement and insurance gaps. The tooth fairy won’t.

Highhumour A mother mouse and a baby mouse were walking along, when all of a sudden, a cat attacked them. The mother mouse goes, “BARK!” and the cat runs away. “See?” says the mother mouse to her baby. “Now do you see why it’s important to learn a foreign language?” A bargain is something you don’t need at a price you can’t resist.
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. The human brain is a wonderful thing. It starts working the moment you are born, and never stops until you stand up to speak in public. My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I’ve finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already. Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure brings about a much better form of misery. It’s so much nicer sobbing in a Porsche, than on a bicycle. We hope that, when the insects take over the world, they will remember with gratitude how we took them along on all our Namibian camping trips and picnics. I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again. 118 |
