Islands

In week two we were asked to respond to the concept of 'islands' with a piece of work which encompassed our idea around thesis formation and this abstract idea of islands.

I chose to do an abstract collage in keeping with that which I had completed for our first submission of 'the first idea'. In this

collage I wanted to explore and illustrate the idea of embodied energy. Thus far when we talk about 'net zero' buildings we are talking about those which meet criteria on the basis

of their operational energy, discounting the large amounts of energy which is consumed throughout the whole life cycle of the material. This could be due to the fact that these

processes are not visible to us when we look at a structure and therefore are easily forgotten about.

This piece deals with 'what lies beneath the surface' and explores the damage these highenergy processes that we can't see are doing to our environment without our knowledge.
