A
company’s social media strategy should change depending on the platforms they’re using. Companies should invest their resources and time into the platforms that are most popular and relevant amongst their target customers, as well as the type of information and/or imagery that will be shared.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLATFORM FOR YOU
B2B There are many ways in which the social media platforms differ, but one of the most basic differentiators is whether the platform targets B2B or B2C. The majority will focus on B2C; however, for those looking to target the B2B market, focus on LinkedIn – for business development and building relationships – and on Twitter, which manages to target both B2B and B2C thanks to its strengths in customer service and PR.
B2C For B2C there are many options, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and Pinterest. Facebook’s users are mostly Gen X and millennials and the platform is best used for advertising and brand awareness campaigns, whereas Instagram and Twitter both have a primarily millennial user base. Instagram is most beneficial when used to give the customer a behind-the-scenes understanding of the company, as well as being the place for natural-looking media and user-generated content.
