Our

that you spend here , even more rewarding.

PHILOSOPHY

How you learn?

The programs offered by us aim to provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen your knowledge, broaden your experience and develop your skills that will be of interest to potential employers. The learnings are for lifetime. The social network that you develop here, makes the time

Lectures, seminars, workshops, practicals and tutorials provide a framework within which you are expected to explore your subject and associate with yourself. Your are engaged in activities which help you gain confidence. At times, there will be more emphasis on self study, with encouraging academic staff to support and guide your efforts. Initially you may find this very challenging, but it is

also rewarding, and develops learning skills that will stand you in good stead in any future career.

Our approach towards teaching Engineering and Management education involve a significant amount of teamwork. Several industries where students find employment emphasize the need for a “team player with good interpersonal skills. For this purpose, we aim to incorporate projects involving student groups, and provide students with vital opportunities to effectively

work as a team. These projects would be useful learning tools where the students assimilate and implement all the concepts they have learned in the classroom to bring the project to fruition, write a report and make a presentation. Students sometimes need mentoring not only in technical aspects of a project but also in group interaction and effective teamwork. We ensure that this mentoring is forthcoming from our teachers. While team work and interpersonal skills are acquired through experience, our teachers play a crucial role in identifying their position in a dynamic

group. Teachers discuss various teamwork-related problems that students might encounter and guide them through the process. Technology offers useful tools and we utilize these effectively. Digital audio-video content, hand-outs, multi-media facilities, state-of-the-art software are all seamlessly integrated to provide an effective learner-centric, teaching-learning process. In addition, we organize trips to specific industries so that the students see “in live action what they have read and retain it effectively.

Graphic Era Hill University The mission of Graphic Era Educational Society now expands beyond Graphic Era University. To establish and strengthen the reach of technical and professional education in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, the Society has set up the Graphic Era Hill University.

COMPUTER SCIENCE KNOW IT BEFORE YOU DO IT Computer Science is a diverse field with its foundations in the key skill of programming, a deeply creative and analytical skill: How can we program robots to help blind people in their homes? How can computers spot suspicious activities in CCTV footage? How to Build safer aeroplanes? Teach chess? Design fabrics? The potential of Computer technology needs no explanation. India has become a giant in the field of Software Development. The Software Industry is also growing by leaps and bounds around the globe. Computer Science is the theoretical study of problems, their structure and properties as they relate to some abstract computational device.A step up from these fundamental questions of computation are algorithms, their design and analysis. Usually, mathematics is used to describe the problem and analyze the algorithms which often rely on some specific features and structures of the problem. There are a lot of general algorithmic tools and abstractions that can be applied to a wide range of problems that yield solutions to different efficiencies, most importantly data structures Computer scientists learn to make computers smaller, faster, easier to use and more intelligent. They seek to develop new and exciting applications that allow us to be more resourceful and sophisticated in all aspects of our daily lives.

A good start to achieve the goal of being a civil engineer is a “well rounded education” which is very necessary to get into this field. For that, you have to take up and excel in subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Also, you must also have good supervisory and administrative skills. Furthermore, you must be ready to sweat it out at construction sites and even work under stressful and hostile conditions. And if you think you fit the bill then civil engineering is the right profession for you. There are two main categories of civil engineer: 1. Consulting engineers are more concerned with the designing aspect of a project. They liaise with clients to plan, manage, design, and supervise construction. 2. Contracting civil engineers are more concerned with turning the plans of the designers (consulting engineers) into a reality. Their main job is to be handson with the construction process, overseeing human and material resources on site and ensuring that the project comes in on budget and on time.

PETROLEUM ENGINEERING KNOW IT BEFORE YOU DO IT Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. Exploration and Production are deemed to fall within the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry. Exploration, by earth scientists, and petroleum engineering are the oil and gas industry's two main subsurface disciplines, which focus on maximizing economic recovery of hydrocarbons from subsurface reservoirs. Petroleum geology and geophysics focus on provision of a static description of the hydrocarbon reservoir rock, while petroleum engineering focuses on estimation of the recoverable volume of this resource using a detailed understanding of the physical behavior of oil, water and gas within porous rock at very high pressure. The combined efforts of geologists and petroleum engineers throughout the life of a hydrocarbon accumulation determine the way in which a reservoir is developed and depleted, and usually they have the highest impact on field economics. Petroleum engineering requires a good knowledge of many other related disciplines, such as geophysics, petroleum geology, formation evaluation (well logging), drilling, economics, reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering, well engineering, artificial lift systems, completions and oil and gas facilities engineering.

Introduction Discovery of natural sources, examination of natural characteristics, and development of modern machinery for extraction and processing—all fall under the scope of petroleum engineers Petroleum engineers are engaged in the globe world for oil and natural gas reservoirs. After they discover there reservoirs, they are involved in working with geologists and other specialists for examining the geologic formation and the nature of the rock containing the reservoir, determining

the drilling methods to be used, and monitoring the drilling and production activities. They also work on designing tools and operation procedures in order to gain efficiency in the recovery of oil and gas. The study covers a wide range of topics including Economics, Geology, Geochemistry, Geomechanics, geophysics, knowledge management, seismology, Techtonics, thermodynamics, well logging, well completion, oil gas production, reservoir development and pipelines etc

Career Opportunities The process of making the oil and gas available in the huge quantities needed to sustain our industrial economy and maintain our standard of living is quite challenging. Petroleum engineers are trained to face these challenges. Oil and gas must be discovered: its quantity and production potential must be assessed: optimal extraction methods must be established to maximize recovery; and it must be transported from the point of production to the refinery and then stored. All these processes need to be carried out in an environmentally benign manner. Petroleum engineers must be multi-faceted in order to cover all these various aspects.

In the event of the discovery of hydrocarbons and the field having been outlined, the main responsibility of development and operations are assumed by petroleum engineers called production engineers. Two major responsibilities evaluation and planning - are ongoing functions. An increasingly important branch of petroleum engineering is that of the reservoir engineer. His/Her work is largely mathematical in nature and involves the application of many areas of study to the prediction of future production (including tertiary recovery) from the reservoirs. Thus, it should be understood that graduate petroleum engineers have a choice of career opportunities. The industry uses a variety of types of equipment, and careers are also open in sales engineering. Some of the testing and service functions in the industry are performed by "service companies" who rely heavily on petroleum engineers. Increasingly important career opportunities for petroleum engineers are opening up in governmental and regulatory bodies. It is with the oil and gas producing 48 49

companies, however, that most graduates find rewarding and challenging career opportunities.

At the beginning of this millennium, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) made an estimate that India would require 10,00,000 trained software professionals in few years. The present availability of such skilled people is only 5% of the required amount. So we can conclude that this sector is going to provide employment to a large number of such professionals. Systems analysts may telecommute with their computers linked directly to computers at the location of their employ. Likewise computer support specialists can access a customer's computer remotely in order to identify and fix problems. Even software developers and consultants, often relocated to a customer's place of business while working on a project, may perform work from offsite locations.

BACHELOR OF ARTS -

MASS COMMUNICATION KNOW IT BEFORE YOU DO IT Mass communication is the term used to describe the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the same time. It is usually understood to relate to newspaper and magazine publishing, radio, television and film, as these are used both for disseminating news and for advertising. Mass communication research includes most of communication media institutions and processes such as diffusion of information, and media effects such as persuasion or manipulation of public opinion. In the United States, for instance, several university departments were remodeled into schools or colleges of mass communication or "journalism and mass communication". With the increased role of the Internet in delivering news and information, mass communication studies and media organizations tend to focus on the convergence of publishing, broadcasting and digital communication. The academic mass communication discipline historically differs from media studies and communication studies programs with roots in departments of theatre, film or speech, and with more interest in "qualitative", interpretive theory, critical or cultural approaches to communication study. In contrast, many mass communication programs historically lean toward empirical analysis and quantitative research — from statistical content analysis of media messages to survey research, public opinion polling, and experimental research.

Introduction Mass Communication is concerned with collection and dissemination of news through the print media as well as the electronic media. This involves various areas of works like reporting, writing, editing, photographing, broadcasting or cable casting news items. It is classified into two on the basis of media- (i) Print Journalism and (ii) Electronic (Audio/Visual) Journalism. Print Journalism includes newspapers, magazines and journals. In print journalism one

can work as editor, reporter, columnist, correspondent etc. Electronic journalism includes working for Radio, Television and the Web. In the web, skilled people are required to maintain sites by web newspapers (which cater only to the web and do not have print editions) and popular newspapers and magazines who have their own web editions. In electronic journalism one can be a reporter, writer, editor, researcher, correspondent and anchor.

ANIMATION & VISUAL EFFECTS KNOW IT BEFORE YOU DO IT Visual effects (commonly shortened to Visual F/X or VFX) are the various processes by which imagery is created and/or manipulated outside the context of a live action shoot. Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, costly, or simply impossible to capture on film. Visual effects using computer generated imagery (CGI) have become increasingly common in bigbudget films, and have also recently become accessible to the Independent filmmaker with the introduction of affordable animation and compositing software. Visual effects are often integral to a movie's story and appeal. Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it usually must be carefully planned and choreographed in preproduction and production. Visual effects are designed and edited in Post-Production, with the use of graphic design, modeling, animation and similar software, while special effects are made on set, such as explosions, car chases and so on. A visual effects supervisor is usually involved with the production from an early stage to work closely with production and the film's director to achieve the desired effects.

Introduction This program has been designed to provide a 360o exposure to animation. This 3 year full-time programme focuses on developing the innate talent of students and enhancing their knowledge and skills through hands-on learning to ensure that every graduate is an industry-ready animation professional.
