The kestrel gallery is about to undergo some big changes
Due to the sad passing of it’s proprietor Craig Letourneau in December last year. The decision was taken to keep the gallery going and to promote the work of other local artists and makers in the same generous spirit Craig envisioned for the gallery. The Kestrel Gallery aims to offer a variety of art work, styles, printing and framing services. The gallery will be staying where it is at 103 Sidbury but it’s going to look very different. Get in contact if you would like to discuss showcasing your work in the gallery. Kestrel@worcstyles.co.uk

DESTINATIONS WORTH A GOOGLE There’s more to barcelona than sangria and sun Barcelona is the perfect destination for a weekend break from your usual routine
It will only take two days to get in tune with the relaxed Spanish lifestyle. You can sip a cocktail steps away from the beach, with the warm wind blowing on your face, after a day spent visiting museums, live music concerts, or- why not- just having a wander down les Rambles. The only downside? You’ll want to miss your flight back!
top packing tips, pack it up pack it in!
Get on a roll. You can save space by rolling clothes instead of folding them. Watch your back (pack). Pack heavier items in the bottom of your backpack and distribute items evenly from left to right. Use both straps to carry it, too.
Crazy capers in cape verde Whether you are a seasoned winter holiday goer, or new to some winter sun, why not try Cape Verde?
Only a six hour flight away, it is a popular destination for winter sun and water sports, all within the hotel complexes. Outside your hotel there’s plenty to discover too! Crystal clear waters and white beaches will make you forget the gray English skies and you’re guaranteed to return to office with a tan to be envied for.
Take advantage of those "hidden" spaces. Place small items inside your shoes or the pockets of shirts or jackets you pack. Tag those bags. Tag your luggage with a distinctive luggage tag with your contact information to help you find your bag if you lose it. A distinctive tag makes it easier to spot your bag at baggage claim.
WORCESTER STYLES
Don't pack what you can get at your destination. The majority of hotels have a hair dryer in every room, along with many toiletry items, so you don't need to pack them. To save money and time try limiting your baggage to carryons, if your popping away for a weekend trip you’ll be surprised what you can get in a holdall! ISSUE ONE . PAGE 11

April - The month of the diamond
see map no. 3
Because of their extraordinary physical properties, diamonds have been used symbolically for centuries
Initially by Hindu’s as the eyes of devotional statues and more recently as the symbol of everlasting love - the diamond engagement ring. Diamonds are classified by type and their value determined by cut, colour, clarity and carat. The round brilliant cut is most popular for solitaire rings, although princess, emerald, asscher, marquise, oval, pear and heart are also increasingly popular. And whilst most diamonds are white, champagne, yellow, blue and pink diamonds are rarer. Pop in and I’ll show you!
Anja Potze answering your jewellery styling questions
Ask Anja ... You’re as likely to get a dinner recommendation as a diamond ring from Anja Potze
She’s so much more than Worcester’s top designer jeweller. To most, she’s a friend. Her infectious warmth beams from the cosy shop some call ‘boutique’. Anja doesn’t. Advising everyone from peers of the realm wanting bespoke, designer ‘one-offs’ to young lovers on a budget, she always finds time for a cheerful insight on life if not a small, reasonably priced yet exquisitely packaged gift.
Visit her Friar Street shop anytime (closed Sundays and Mondays) with your jewellery dilemmas. Alternatively email anjaQ@worcstyles.co.uk
and we’ll print the best.
I like to think of my customers as friends. Welcome anytime just for a chat!
Of Dutch Canadian roots, qualifying as a Master Jeweller in Amsterdam, Anja has lived with her young son in Worcester since 1990, earning her landmark reputation as one of Worcester’s own.

youR NEED TO know TOP TIPS ON grooming for the modern day man A wet shave and a wash with soap WORKED for MEN in the 80’s but IN 2012?
Why do us men groom? Let go of the stigma associated with grooming. Unlike women, 70 per cent of men don’t groom out of vanity. They do it first and foremost to boost their selfesteem and to attract a partner.

The Truth Behind Some Beauty Myths and top tips Beauty practices & top tips for staying stylish on the move
Do Not Think about doing your makeup in the car. Even if you are at a red light, the time you have between lights isn’t nearly enough to apply mascara, let alone anything else. Finally don’t try to paint your nails in the car!
STYLE FRENZY
Do Carry a compact at all times. If you don’t have time for makeup, you’ll be happy to at least dust some powder on your cheeks and forehead. If anyone throws a last minute photo shoot at you, your compact will save your tail.
Beauty Myth - toothpaste & spots Toothpaste has menthol and other active ingredients that can aid in drying up those nasty spots and make them heal quicker. However, the same active ingredients can also dry up and irritate the skin of your face, so it’s better to use a spot cream!

TANTIME
To prolong your tan use Garnier Skin Naturals Summer Body Moisturising Lotion. It moisturises your skin to keep it from flaking for longer and it contains a small percentage of fake tan to help keep that summer glow a little longer!

Top 2 qr code reader apps ...
What the QR is it all about? They are here in a big way so find out what it’s all about
You may have noticed more and more that a pixelated square icon known as a QR code is popping up in your lives. These QR codes are scannable from a smartphone (apps required) and can be programmed to send you anywhere on the web, save contact information and even create emails ready to be sent to a desired address.
For example, scanning a QR code in an advert might take you straight to a retailer’s checkout page, where you can pick up those must-haves in record time. Magazine ads have started using QR codes for smart shopping and you can even find them in museums. Download your app of choice now and start scanning the QR codes you see here in WORC STYLES.
We have highlighted our two favourite qr code readers for the android or iphone
QR Droid: One of the most popular QR reading apps amongst Android users. You can use it for reading codes, scanning, or even generating QR codes. The best part is, it is freely available on the Android market with most users giving it a 5 star rating. If you’re using Android OS, this app should be your first choice.
i-Nigma: The most commonly used mobile bar code reader is i-Nigma. The company behind i-Nigma say the app supports more than 600 mobile phones. It’s being used by more than 1.5 million people around the world, with a large majority of users based in Japan, it’s pre-installed on the majority of phones there. We definitely think i-Nigma is one step ahead of all the other QR readers on the market.

ipad 3 not so “new” the “new ipad” was launched in march, but IS it everything APPLE haVE hyped it up to be?
The “new iPad” not the “iPad HD” or “iPad 3” which had been expected, offers a Retina Display similar to that of the iPhone 4 and 4S. It offers 4G connection and also features an updated processor which Apple boasts is four times faster than their nearest competitor. The “New iPad” also features an updated rear camera of 5 mega pixels, capable of filming in full 1080p.
WORCESTER STYLES
It is safe to say, that with all the hype surrounding the pre-launch we felt slightly let down when we saw it. With talks of a smaller 8” model, no home button and the possibility of 3D, it came up short on all of them. 4G is not expected until late 2012 in the UK so who will benefit from the fast internet speeds? Without a doubt there will be a “new new” iPad around the corner for early 2013, is there much point in splashing your cash? We say - buy an iPad 2, there are some great deals to be had now making it a real contender in the lower priced tablet market

online prints with wings AirMonkey prints was established in 2007 in a garage just outside Worcester. a week long snowboarding trip to canada resulted in a chance meeting with scott king, an up and coming street artist, the rest as they say “is history”
When we returned to the UK and recovered from the jet lag and alcohol intake we were so inspired by some of the work we’d seen of Scott’s that it was decided that we should sell his prints and paintings over here, he travelled to the UK a lot so it seemed ideal. We were in Dundee sourcing some printing equipment the week after when I heard of an exhibition that was being hosted by an artist called Tevés. It was only a small show but when we arrived a piece caught our eye straight away, the Stormpooper canvas! An all inspired piece showcasing a Stormtrooper sitting on the toilet. been executed so well! After a few drinks Tevés warmed to our business concept and so he too joined the AirMonkey stable. It was the Stormpooper Screen print which started us off, selling out in record time and a dealer in L.A. calling us constantly to purchase the last 10 for his shop. Since then the Stormpooper has been spotted in many a famous nightclub and hotel across L.A. AirMonkey has gone from strength to strength and in 2011 we moved to a central Worcester location. This has allowed us to showcase more local and national talent that we feel can inspire a nation in need. Artists such as ©opyKat, ADS and Neue now have a platform that they may never have found for their work. Aria Torn has been increasingly touted as an alias of Banksy due to his style and execution, I can safely say if he was I’d have retired to the sun.”

WHAT’s BIG at the BIG SCREEN right now? WORCESTER.
WHAT TO SEE NEAR YOU . National Theatre Live at Vue Worcester The amazing spider-man in 3d Synopsis | 04/07/2012 Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) comes across a new clue as to why his parents vanished when he was young, a clue that will throw light on his identity as Spider-Man. The evidence leads him to the lab of his father’s
old colleague Dr. Connors (Rhys Ifans), but there’s more to Connors than meets the eye: he is, in fact, The Lizard. Battling him on one side and the police on the other, will Peter’s romance with Gwen (Emma Stone) ever get off the ground?
