THE TRENDS Bringing to you Worcester’s LATEST offerings

Our House is your House. House Worcester hosted their official launch party on 2ND May joined by over 350 guests. The Restaurant, Coffee and Cocktail bar offers a diverse array of quality products all under one roof. The venue resides in the Crown Gate Quarter and with their alfresco dining area it was a hit with guests as they enjoyed the early evening sunshine sipping Laurent Perrier vintage Champagne. Guests enjoyed the dual concept with Mai’Tai continuing the party upstairs serving cocktails

whilst the Ibiza sounds filled the early evening air.

For the same price as a weekend away, or the cost of a child’s birthday party, you can write your will to protect your loved ones should the worst happen.

Riad Erraji, husband of Atomic Kittens’ Natasha Hamilton, Director of House said, “House is a premier Worcester venue for premier people. We have had a lot of local support and tonight we formed relationships with the local community, it’s fantastic to see so many people here tonight and to welcome our neighbours.”

Wills are often straightforward and can be written with the minimum of fuss. Some Wills, however, require specialist technical knowledge and Harrison Clark Rickerbys experience and expertise will ensure that you have the right Will for your particular needs!

Erica Burlace, Crown Gate centre manager, added “We are extremely excited to be welcoming House to Crown Gate and feel its diverse offer will provide fantastic day to night dining and leisure opportunities that will really benefit Worcester as a whole.”

It is vital to have an up to date Will to ensure your assets pass to your heirs. Wills have become an essential part of tax planning. Harrison Clark Rickerbys specialist Wills, Trusts and Probate team will

help plan suitable Wills for those in second marriages with more than one family to consider, and for civil partners or unmarried couples who own property jointly, or run a business which cannot be split or sold. The right Will can be a strategic building block in the overall management of your family wealth. Call them now to book a free consultation, they can also visit you at your home or place of work, even out of office hours in most cases, now that’s top service locally!

M O U S T A S H T I C D E S I GN E R S T U B B L E Designer stubble can be a rugged way of adding interest to your face and will make your jaw look more angular and give you a more masculine look. Pair it with a suit and it projects a look of independence and instant cool. Ditch the scruffy clothes, three days’ worth of beard growth, with a combination of scruffy clothes will be simply too much, leaving you looking unkempt and dishevelled. You’re going for the rugged look not the ungroomed. The same applies to intentionally messy hair cuts. Invest in a good conditioner and keep the hair as soft as possible, your girlfriend liking the look yet not wanting you to come any where near her because it’s so rough on her skin is not the desired effect.

When growing ‘taches, many men fall at the ‘messy’ stage - usually a week or so in when the Mo is at its most unsightly but stay strong - things get better! Using a weekend to get a head start is a good idea, or even better a week’s holiday - that way by the time you return, you’ll be over the unsightly, itchy stage. Finding a style that suits you will probably take a few attempts so play around with your Mo’s length and thickness. Always shave just outside the line of your moustache that will leave you room to tidy it up properly with the edging blade of your razor. Ensure it’s symmetrical (women find men with symmetrical faces more attractive) and, if you’re planning anything remotely intricate, use a magnifying shaving mirror so you get pinpoint accuracy.

G R I Z Z L Y G R I L L Beards show that you’re the independent type and possibly self-employed, seeing as how facial hair is frowned upon by some employers, it’s an easy way for men to reclaim their masculinity, to echo the cavemen and lumberjacks that came before them! On an aesthetic level, beards are also a very handy way of hiding the jowly signs of age. A small amount of growth can magically hide lessthan-perfect features while a clean line following the jaw can instantly split a double chin in two. On the other hand a little fuzz can add years to those with baby faces. As a rule hair should never hang over the upper lip or grow below the neckline and therefore requires the regular attention of a wet razor or a dedicated trimmer for angling.

HOMEGROWN SURROUND YOURSELF WITH STYLE. WORCESTER IS YOUR RUNWAY AND WE ARE YOUR AUDIENCE.

-

IN Each Issue we will be celebrating A’ LOCAL SUCCESS STORY, A PERSON OR BUSINESS THAT SHINES THE TORCH FOR THE ESTABLISHED OR UP AND COMING TALENT we have IN OUR HOMETOWN! -

Dani Carruthers "They are so sexy and definitely make a statement of confidence. I now would nOt be seen on the beach in anything else!! I want to bring this style to the beaches of Europe!” Nobody wears a bikini like a Brazilian wears a bikini, fact. Curves are flaunted and less is more, why do you think they call it a Brazilian wax? We catch up with Worcester’s Dani Carruthers, founder and designer of Beach Bums of Brazil, a red-hot bikini range guaranteed to bring all the boys (and girls) to the bar.

Designs are fun, girly and feature the infamous Brazilian cut (smaller on the bum) showing off curves whilst also getting much sexier tan lines, shabba. Influenced by the vivacious colours of the Rio Carnival all bikinis are designed and produced in Brazil, so they’re as authentic as the beach bums that wear them.

Dani kicked-off her own Brazilian bikini range after a trip to Brazil where she fell in love with the vibrancy and colours of the bikinis worn by those smoking hot chicas. Upon returning home to England she tried to find similar bikinis but failed “they were all very expensive and not fashionable.” To cut a long story short she decided to design her own.

Dani debuted her collection at a 2012 London Fashion Week event hosted by Fashion TV at The Collection in Knightsbridge and hasn’t looked back since. BBOB have recently launched on InLoveWithFashion.com whilst also being available on our own site bbob.com

wrong, diamonds are actually a ‘guys best friend.’ Seriously, what else can us guys fall back on when we’ve tried all the moves we know to show how much we care. Last week we paid the wonderful staff at Jill WheelockLines Pearls & Fine Jewellery a visit. Located on the charming 17th and 18th Century Friar Street no one does pearls and bling like these guys do; diamonds, precious stones, south-sea pearls, Tahitian pearls and gold dazzle you as you walk in. We often pop in just for a browse and a coffee, as should you, but this time we had an agenda. Yes, we were looking for something a little bit special, maybe for that special someone (*blush*) and we didn’t really know where to start. Luckily Jill and her team of experts at this family run business knew what they were doing. We explained what we were looking for, our budget and we sat back and relaxed as we were shown all manner of shiny things. After a thoughtful moment we settled on a pair of wonderful pearl and diamond earrings. We love this place and our bank balance didn’t take too much of a beating either! Give Jill a visit, even if it is just to say hi and for a coffee!

COCK TA I LS &cashews

FRESH FEEL, SAME GREAT TASTE It’s no secret that we’ve got a weakness for the strong stuff…coffee of course! Worcester never really had much of an espresso culture before but thanks to those vivacious guys at Bolero Cafe our caffeine addiction is fairing better than ever. Bolero has worked hard to become the longest established, independent coffee shop in town and now its looking slicker than ever. Yes, our favourite hotspot has had a facelift. Visit this

bustling hive of activity to appreciate a newer, fresher look.

The MOJITO

Hit this place for breakfast, for your short, quick, strong or long coffees and porridge, eggs or toast. Salads, paninis and sandwiches from the lunch menu and even later for pasta. This is the perfect place to meet friends or kickback solo, you’ll always see smiling faces here and that’s just the staff! An eclectic venue we will never get enough of and now fresher than ever!

A classic cocktail originating from Cuba, this refreshing summer favourite is daytime friendly and tasty enough to drink at speed, in short it’s a bit of a crowd pleaser. No raunchy, beach-party music video is complete without it. Traditionally the Mojito consists of five ingredients; white rum, sugar, lime juice, sparkling water and mint, the mixture is then ‘muddled’ in a glass and served over a mound of crushed ice. These days there are many variations on this corker; for example substitute rum for tequila to experience something all together more potent.

SEE MAP 10

Instead of lime bartenders frequently use exotic fruits such as raspberries, pineapple or anything else at hand and as always we’ve sampled a few and compiled our favourites, in the name of research of course.

POW ! B OOM ! S H A Z AM ! Fix up look sharp and tackle your day with style, a gentleman’s guide.

KCC is The party starter. This suburban venture from the boys behind The London Cocktail Clubs is unlike anything Worcester’s ever seen before. Opening its doors for the first time in an explosion of cocktails, crazyass bartenders and comic book characters, we may or may not have been wearing a cape, hint: we were, pow! Take the steps down from street level where you’ll be met by comic book style artwork, a large open

room, comfortable looking leather sofas and a corker of a playlist. When it comes to cocktails the list is simple but a definite party starter! We started with Old Fashioned but very quickly moved to Pornstar Martinis (it just felt right). Props to the guys behind the bar who put on one hell of a show and kept the three deep bar moving, there was even a little bit of flaring going on, if you’re a sucker for that kinda thing, ahem.

Monday to Thursday you’ll want to chill out here and take advantage of the pocket friendly offers, Orange Wednesday’s for example render any orange cocktails half price. As soon as the weekend hits grab your glad-rags and make the most of this rad party place; challenge a mate to a game of table tennis, get geeky with the old-school Space Invaders or shake it out to a little No Doubt, We’ll be back! In the words of it’s owners, BOOM!

Bigger, better, bolero bar. More good news for summer; Bolero Bar has expanded! Not long after opening, thanks to it’s huge success and popularity they have now given you more space to eat, drink and be…merry, result. Following a game-changing opening late last year Bolero Bar has easily jumped onto our list of favourite places to spend an evening. Cocktails, delicious food and a cracking ambiance are the reasons we keep coming back for more.

H I S T O R I C D R I N K I N G

Now imagine our delight at hearing the news of an expansion.

The Cardinals Hat is back! Hello new drinking spot. With its imposing red brick façade and stunning location in Friar Street, the Cardinal’s Hat is a handsome example of an English city pub. Three storey’s high and oozing with charm this independent free house originally dates back to the fourteenth century, so it’s a history lesson and a great Sunday afternoon all at once.

The opening of a dedicated wine and champagne bar means premium brands and specialised service. The new area is located to the rear of Bolero Bar where customers will also be able to make use of a new courtyard area, perfect for those boozy summer evenings. We love hearing the success of independent ventures in Worcester ... especially when it benefits us all!

Situated in the historic heart of the city, the Cardinal’s Hat is Worcester’s oldest inn and the news that its re-opened has us dancing our drinking feet all the way to the bar. Long-considered a local landmark, this historic watering hole is now a labour of love for local food, drink, live music and traditional pub culture where fine wines, well-kept cask ales, continental beers and lip-smacking cocktails are served with pride and satisfaction. With over 30 years in the pub trade Nigel, Sadie and the team will make sure you feel welcome. Whether passing by for morning coffee or settling in for a leisurely platter of the region’s finest fare, the Cardinal’s Hat has something for everyone. 31 Friar Street, Worcester, WR1 2NA www.the-cardinals-hat.co.uk

Who’s heard of Merlot? Oh you have (of course you have). Here at WStyles HQ we’re tired of playing it safe with the Vines we know how to pronounce, so here are FOUR grapes you might not have heard of.

LIQUOR IS QUICKER BUT WINE IS FINE. The French Kiss

The Javier Bardem

The Tongue Twister

The Brazilian

This sexy little number is from an area of low rainfall, coastal sun and cool nights producing raspberry flavours, fine tannins and a long sweet palate. Sam Harrop and John Worontschak worked with vineyard Domaine St Hilaire on this Grenach and we’re into it.

Previously dismissed for being too rustic the Spanish Bobal grapes grow 64 miles from the Mediterranean and 800 metres above sea level. These days they’re used to make La Malkerida, a refined, vibrant red, full of dark fruits.

This young vine isn’t easy to pronounce but it’s an emerging star amongst Greek wines so you should at least try to shout about it. The Xynomavro is fragrant and mediumbodied with light textured tannins. Plums and cherries are on the cards with this one so pair it with duck or chicken.

Finally some booze to challenge the bubbles we’re used to; champagne might have some healthy competition with this one. Brazilian sparkling wine is having a bit of a moment in the wine world as are their reds…who knew?

F OU R W H E E L F A N T A S IA STATS, STYLES AND TRIBULATIONS OF THE LATEST FOUR WHEELED OFFERINGS FROM NISSAN AND TOYOTA

NISSAN JUKE NISMO Starting from 1£ 9,995 The Nissan Juke Nismo is a rival to warm any current hatchback, including the more punchy ones, such as the Renaultsports and fast Fords. It’s intended to be fun and desirable, yet usable and they have made an absolute winner. The Nismo’s 197bhp means there’s no denying that the it’s fast. The engine feels punchy from around 2000rpm and there’s more than enough torque for you to gain speed rapidly without ever having to get near the 6500rpm redline. The Nismo upgrades also include stiffer suspension,

TOYOTA GT86

quicker steering, 18-inch alloys, suede-trimmed sports seats (which are hip-huggingly handsome!) and sat-nav with reversing camera.

Starting from 2£ 4,995 The naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine in the GT86 is capable of strong pace, but because its peak power and torque are delivered high up the rev range, you have to work it very hard. It feels very lazy lower down the revs because of this – if you don’t keep the revs above 4000rpm you’ll suspect they slipped you a dud with a micra engine shaking under the bonnet.

The steering feels sharper in corners than a regular Juke’s and the revised suspension is sophisticated enough for even this relatively tall car to stay admirably planted. We love this ugly little duckling. 0-62MPH 7.8 SECS -_ ------------ECONOMY 40.9 MPG COMBINED -_ -------------TOP SPEED 134MPH

The ride is firm but forgiving, but the GT86 is all about the handling. The light weight and front engined rear wheel drive

gives the GT86 real agility and the tiny tyres are also great fun if you venture onto a track for some sideways action. The engine sounds pretty good when you thrash it, which is just as well, because you’ll be thrashing it all the time (bad news for motorway cruising). Great fun but a little pricey for it’s spec.

0-62MPH in 7.6 secs -_ ------------ECONOMY 36.2mpg COMBINED -_ -------------TOP SPEED 140MPH

TUNE IN TO YOUTHCOMM RADIO IN WORCESTER ON 106.7FM . YOU NAME IT, WE PLAY IT!

“Worcestershire’s most vibrant, dynamic and exciting young station!” Presents

Worcester’s own BIG REUNION at MINIFEST 2013 Youthcomm Radio’s Minifest, Worcester’s stand-out music and community event returns 30th June. This year the event follows the current music trend of reunions and comebacks, by the likes of bands Five, 911 and Blue. By providing Worcester with its very own ‘Big Reunion’, reuniting for the first time since their song ‘Babycakes’ reached Number 1 in the UK charts back in 2004, one hit wonders 3 of a Kind will be performing at this year’s Minifest for the first time in 8 years. Not only has Youthcomm Radio managed to get 3 of a Kind back together, this year’s event boasts of the best music lineup Minifest has ever assembled, including local celebrity Lauren Wright who recently supported One Direction and can be heard on Radio 1. She’ll be joined by Time of the Mouth, one of Worcester’s biggest bands, who are currently

supporting The Who and Hype-O, known for his many BBC introducing appearances, as well as several music videos which can be seen on national television. The Pin-Ups, who came 4th in Open Mic UK at London’s O2 Arena, and have delighted audiences across the UK, the group also contain two Ex-X factor talents. Worcester favourites Ronin will also be making a rare appearance by returning to the event as headliners. The young people at Youthcomm Radio have really been working hard to get this year’s event together, to guarantee that this year’s Minifest will be better than ever. Minifest always offers the people of Worcester something different as it’s the only event which embraces and brings together the connection of the great music, the local community, local businesses and youth in the area.

OUR FILM BUFF ROXANNE SPAUGHTON PUTS THE LATEST FILMS TO THE TEST

SCAN ME

THE HANGOVER 3 VUE It’s the end of the trilogy for the boys whose lives are a bigger car crash than Keeping up with the Kardashians, and there is something so appealing about watching in horror as they re-define the meaning of the word ‘Yolo’. One of my favourite actors John Goodman appears in this film along with Bridesmaids comedienne Melissa McCarthy, and then of

IRON MAN 3 I’m guessing you already own the previous two Iron Man’s on DVD because, lets face it, who doesn’t love a Marvel superhero? But the third one in the series is different from the others, and in my personal opinion, the best one yet. With the wittiest script so far, Tony Starks takes on the terrorist Mandarin who kidnaps girlfriend Pepper Potts, as well as dealing

with emotional issues that I assume typically come along with having a giant magnetic torch in your body and constantly saving the world. The Mandarin is Iron Man’s greatest foe and the special effects are just incredible. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish! Whether you have seen the previous two, or non to date, make sure you see Iron Man 3 !

course the usual Wolfpack cast of Alan, Doug, Stu, Phil and Mr. Chow. This time no wedding, no bachelor party but a funeral kick starts the action that sees the boys’ lives return to chaos for the final time. I recommend you buy on DVD to complete the comedy franchise of Todd Phillips, and also look out for his new film 21 and Over.

START TREK Continuing on with the geek-chic theme, pioneering director J.J Abrams brings us the latest from the crew of the Enterprise. An unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. Kirk (Chris Pine) must risk everything to

gatecrash parties, with the desire to join in the celebrity lifestyle. But what starts out as naive fun takes a sinister turn.. This film is a must see mainly because Emma Watson gets to shed her good girl Hermionie Granger image whilst playing the naughty teen kleptomaniac Nicki. The film is funny and mocking but also has a poignant social commentary. .

Please

DO NOT BEND IF THERE’S ONE THING WE WON’T BEND ON IT’S ...

... Social Networking. We have been thinking to ourselves recently, however fairly out loud, when did it become the ‘norm’ to let our cyber friends know the ins and outs, the trials and tribulations and our daily regime? As we tag ourself at our favourite coffee spot letting all our cyber friends know we are currently queueing for our Monday morning mocha. Why are we telling you this? Would you like to know we are #OnlyCoeffiecientOnCaffeiene? Do you NEED to know we’re queuing, that we are eagerly waiting for a caffeine hit before we start our day? If you have not asked us what we are upto, where we are, or why we are queuing for that matter, Why, must I ask, are we telling you!?

Ok, well do you know what else we won’t bend on, FB friends ... who are they? We have never in our life spoken to some of these people, some we have never met, yet they continue to like, share, agree and comment on our social samplings. Like. favourited. Who are they to like the picture of our close family gatherings and comment on our romantic getaways? Yet we like their comment. *Sigh* Is it us? Are we the problem? Should we be sharing our every thought, our every photo of every vacation, staycation and event? Surely then, these FB friends will not be able to get their grubby mits or comments on our daily dooings.

But it doesn’t just stop there, oh no, we now take pictures of our things, our events (no matter how personal or private) and successes to share with the world. When did we all become so interesting that we felt we absolutely must share all these events with the social world? We must add we are thinking this as we take a picture of the office puppy. And upload. And Tag. Humph.

Or, should we be befriending our FB friends? We have so much in common! They like our comments, they comment on our comments, they share our status and follow our photos! Maybe these FB friends are closer to us than our physical friends? But we struggle to keep in touch with our physical friends, can we bare to make more? As we think this we check a friend’s FB wall as we haven’t heard from him in a while. He has just got back from a lovely holiday, that’s nice, no need to call him now. Crap. It is us, we slump back into our mocha, a deep breath, a sigh and check FB.

OK, so we’re not perfect either. There are some soul crushing social networking annoyances in us all, that, at one time or another we have all been guilty of, but we refuse to stand-down on this network rant, in fact I think I’ll tweet this later. DAMMIT!

P R O D UC E S OM E S T YL E Fix up look sharp and tackle your day with style, a gentleman’s guide.

We help you style your way to a productive day

2pM-4pm manage, organise and meet It’s time for some insightful and successful sharing. Between these hours others are lacking energy, not us, so they turn to relaying others messages, if we want to be heard by the masses now is the time to tweet. With all this productivity it is only inevitable that we start to slow at some point. Let’s leave the screen and utilise this time to interact with colleagues and brainstorm tomorrows activities.

8AM TWEET, SHARE, like AND SNAP Sleep is relaxing and refreshing, therefore it makes sense that this is the time to tweet our insights, share our thoughts, like your friends latest pics and take a snap of your healthy, likely not so healthy, breakfast! At this point of our day we are less likely to be steeped in stress and more likely to be upbeat and enthusiastic.

9AM-12pm go big or go home We are now at a moderate level of stress which can sharpen our concentration on singular large objectives, however check your emails or social network and you will be juggling tasks all morning. Don’t forget, it isn’t rude to put headphones on, it politely says I’m focussed and in a zone and can not be disturbed.

5pm LEAVE EARLY, WORK LATE

12pm-2pm GET UP, GET OUT, GET FIT A brisk walk, a trot to the shops or a midday muller gym session, we all feel our physical, mental and interpersonal performance increase and focus. We are more distracted from noon ‘til two so the more fighting chance we give ourselves to survive the afternoon the better!

If it’s open-ended, original thinking we require then we work best when our minds wander. Leave work on-time, enjoy the early evening then as our brains shutdown and we become tired, we are in a better position to let our minds wander freely to explore all sorts of creative solutions! In fact as I type it is 20:50 and I feel creatively curious! Now sleep, but don’t forget to brush, no-one wakes up fresh with dog breath.

Droitwich Lido

• NOT SO FAR TO VISIT • Droitwich Lido is one of the few remaining open air, saltwater swimming pools in the UK. If you haven’t already visited this place then you should. Sure, getting into your bikini or trunks so close to home can be daunting but why not start working on that tan before you’ve even set foot out of the shire.

Take some time out to go ape, no, not at your friend, parents or boss but at Wyre Forest’s Go Ape Adventure. The perfect place to let off steam, get fit and have a laugh with your mates. Tree-top high rope crossings and a wind-in-your-face zip wire is just the start in one of Britain’s largest remaining ancient woodlands, what’s not to love? Wyre Forest is cared for by the Forestry Commission so you’ll see some of the most ecologically significant woodlands in England. After you’ve scared yourself giddy climbing, flying and tumbling make time to check out the butterflies here. You will find half the species of UK butterflies and moths to gawp over.

This place is ripe with history, so soak in the art-deco building in which the Lido is situated (originally built in the 1930’s) and see the stress float away in diluted salt water pumped from brine streams beneath the town. Known for it’s healing qualities and with a ‘beach’ area and fountain to boot, it’s ideal for that weekend “staycation”. Come here with friends or family and enjoy water heated to exactly the same temperature as the Mediterranean Sea, ‘Shire-glam at it’s best!

Fresh air, exercise and stunning views; we can’t think of a better feel good day out. Don’t forget to hit the café for a cup of tea and a giant slice of cake afterwards, you’ll deserve it ... and need it.

Our go-to hotspot for the pre-holiday soak.
