‫!‪The summer vacation is over‬‬ ‫‪I hope you had the time to‬‬ ‫‪Relax and have some fun.‬‬ ‫‪Some of you have graduated‬‬ ‫‪in summer. On behalf of my colleagues, I would‬‬ ‫‪like to wish you a prosperous professional career.‬‬ ‫‪For the remaining ones, including the new stu‬‬‫‪dents, I would like to welcome you all, wishing‬‬ ‫‪you a new academic year, full of achievements‬‬ ‫‪and success. Please meet with your academic‬‬ ‫‪advisors, discuss with them all academic issues‬‬ ‫‪and define a graduation plan in order to avoid‬‬ ‫‪any delay.‬‬ ‫‪In this issue of the IT Bulletin, and due to some‬‬ ‫‪circumstances, only events that occurred during‬‬ ‫‪the Spring & Summer semesters 2010 are cov‬‬‫‪ered. ‫حاكم عجمان يشهد حفل تخريج الدفعة ‪19‬‬ ‫من طالب جامعة عجمان‬ ‫شهد صاحب السمو الشيخ حميد بن راشد‬ ‫النعيمي‪ ،‬عضو اجمللس األعلى حاكم عجمان‪،‬‬ ‫حفل تخريج الدفعة الـ‪19‬من طالب جامعة‬ ‫عجمان الذي أقيم في يونيو الفائت‪ .‬وقد حضر‬ ‫احلفل كل من سمو الشيخ عمار بن حميد‬ ‫النعيمي‪ ،‬ولي عهد عجمان ورئيس اجمللس‬ ‫التنفيذي‪ ،‬ومعالي الشيخ نهيان بن مبارك آل‬ ‫نهيان‪ ،‬وزير التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي‪،‬‬ ‫والشيخ أحمد بن حميد النعيمي‪ ،‬ممثل احلاكم‬ ‫للشؤون املالية واإلدارية‪ ،‬والشيخ عبد العزيز بن‬ ‫حميد النعيمي‪ ،‬رئيس دائرة الثقافة واإلعالم‪،‬‬ ‫والشيخ راشد بن حميد النعيمي‪ ،‬رئيس دائرة‬ ‫البلدية والتخطيط‪ ،‬وعدد من الشيوخ وأصحاب‬ ‫املعالي‪ ،‬ورؤساء ومدراء الدوائر احلكومية‪ ،‬وعدد‬ ‫من مدراء اجلامعات بالدولة‪ ،‬والسفراء وامللحقون‬ ‫الثقافيون‪ ،‬وعمداء اجلامعة وأساتذتها وأهالي‬ ‫اخلريجني وضيوف اجلامعة من كبار الشخصيات واملسؤولني‪.‬‬ ‫وأكد صاحب السمو حاكم عجمان في كلمته التي ألقاها نيابة عنه‪ ،‬سمو الشيخ أحمد بن حميد‬ ‫النعيمي‪ ،‬بأن العلم هو ذلك احلصن احلصني الذي تصان به اجملتمعات وتبنى به األوطان‪ ،‬لذلك «فإننا‬ ‫دولة اإلمارات ال ندخر جهدا وال ماال في بناء املؤسسات التعليمية وتشيع االستثمار فيها ووضع‬ ‫التشريعات والقوانني التي تعلي من جودتها ومخرجاتها‪».‬‬ ‫وعقب كلمة صاحب السمو راعي احلفل‪ ،‬كلمة اجلامعة ملعالي الدكتور سعيد عبد اهلل سلمان‪،‬‬ ‫الرئيس األعلى للجامعة‪ ،‬التي ألقاها نيابة عنه سعادة ثامر سعيد سلمان‪ ،‬نائب رئيس اجلامعة‬ ‫للشؤون اإلدارية واملالية‪ ،‬والتي أشاد فيها بالدعم املتواصل والالمحدود للشيخ حميد بن راشد‬ ‫النعيمي‪ ،‬ورعايته املستمرة للجامعة طيلة مسيرة ‪ 23‬سنة‪ ،‬أثـمرت تخريج ‪ 24‬ألف خريج وخريجة‬ ‫ولفيف من البرامج األكادميية التي تبلغ اليوم ‪ 43‬من درجات البكالوريوس واملاجستير‪.‬‬

‫حفل الخريجات‬ ‫في اليوم املوالي أي األربعاء ‪ 22‬يونيو وفي نفس املكان‪،‬‬ ‫أقيم حفل تخريج ‪ 613‬طالبة من جامعة عجمان للعام‬ ‫اجلامعي ‪ .2011-2010‬وقد حظى هذا احلفل برعاية وحضور‬ ‫سمو الشيخة فاطمة بنت زايد بن صقر آل نهيان‪ ،‬قرينة‬ ‫صاحب السمو حاكم عجمان‪.‬‬ ‫وقد شرفت سمو الشيخة احلفل بإلقاء كلمة افتتاحية‬ ‫هنأت فيها اخلريجات بالنجاح‪ ،‬قائلة‪« :‬إنكم اليوم تدخلن‬ ‫ميادين العمل‪ ،‬وقد تسلّحنت بالعلم‪ ،‬فسرن على بركة‬ ‫اهلل‪ ،‬وضعن هذا الوطن نصب أعينكن‪ ،‬وتفانني في سبيله‪،‬‬ ‫واعملن من أجله بجد واجتهاد‪ ،‬حتى يظل شامخا بني‬ ‫األمم‪ ،‬قويا بسواعدكن الفتية‪ ،‬وعقولكن املستنيرة‪».‬‬ ‫أما كلمة جامعة عجمان فقد ألقتها السيدة عائشة‬ ‫أحمد بشير‪ ،‬قرينة الدكتور سعيد سلمان‪ ،‬الرئيس األعلى‬ ‫للجامعة‪ ،‬التي أثنت فيها على قيادة الدولة الرشيدة‬ ‫بالنهوض بالتعليم في مختلف مستوياته‪ ،‬وعبرت فيها‬ ‫عن امتنان جامعة عجمان للرعاية الكرمية التي حتظى بها‬ ‫من صاحب السمو الشيخ حميد بن راشد التعيمي‪.‬‬

Fujairah Campus: It is noteworthy that the Fujairah Campus of Ajman University of Science and Technology is also celebrated the graduation of new batch consisting of 109 male graduate and 260 female graduate. The graduation ceremony was held in two phases, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, on 27 and 28 June at Siji Al Diar Hotel in Fujairah.

First Graduate in the Information Systems Master Program

The IT College Wins the 2nd Prize at the Software Development Trade Show The IT College students Duha Sultan Obaid Ali Al Sayegh, Samar S. H. Hasania and Noor Shafiq Rajab won the second prize at the 5th Edition of the Software Development Tradeshow, organized by Wollongong University in Dubai (UOWD) on May 11th, 2011. The winning project, which is a multimedia application called «Learn with Salma and Saleem», was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Mossab Al-Hunaity and support of Eng. Rawhi Alrai and aims at helping children with speech problems speak adequately. This event attracted 18 teams from 7 higher education institutions: Khalifa University, Herriot Watt University, Manipal University, University of Dubai, Bits Pilani University, the University of Wollongong in Dubai and

Ajman University of Science & Technology. All projects were evaluated by a panel of experts from the industry: Nauthoa Nass, General Manager of Intel Corporation for the Gulf countries, Ben D›Souza, Managing Director of Industry Networks - Sharjah, Sinan Sheikh, IBM Corporation - Dubai, and Dr. Sherief Abdallah, Lecturer of Informatics at the British University in Dubai.

The College of IT is pleased to congratulate the student Omar Mansour as the first graduate in the program of master in Information Systems (Spring Semester 2010-2011). Congratulations and best wishes.

ITBulletin Approach Seminar on «New trends in Information Technology Science and Teaching» at Ajman University in Fujairah

The College of Information Technology at Ajman University of Science and Technology in Fujairah, in collaboration with the Fujairah Education Zone, held an approach seminar entitled «The New Trends in Information Technology Science and Teaching» in the conference hall at Fujairah Campus on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The seminar was attended by Fujairah Campus Director, Deputy Deans of Colleges, Fujairah Education Zone IT Supervisor, as well as a number of faculty members, and secondary school IT teachers and students from various secondary schools in Fujairah. The seminar included a presentation and discussion of various scientific papers about new trends in IT science and teaching, such as: Cloud Computing, the Virtual Teacher, Augmented Reality, Ethical Hacking, IT Curriculum between Student Textbook and Standards, and Digital Gadgets for Educational Purposes. Dr. M. Ayman Al Ahmar, Deputy Dean of the IT College and supervisor of the stressed out the importance of organizing such seminars as they help build bridges between the university and the various sectors of the local community in Fujairah.

Students and Plagiarism By Dr. Hakim Khali

Nowadays, plagiarism is a growing concern in higher education and needs to be addressed adequately in order to achieve and maintain a high level of academic ethics (www.plagiarism.org). Most of the time, students rely on Internet, as the main source of information, to fulfill their research papers, assignments or projects. Unfortunately, the “cut-and-paste” of existing content from Internet becomes “trivial”. Plagiarism is an act of fraud which can be committed under several forms. The most “popular” one is to copy information without citing the source or taking the work of someone else without giving credit. Sometimes, even citing the source or giving credit may not be enough! As an example, a student doing a project for which most of the work has been taken from a referenced source. To increase the awareness about plagiarism and how it can be avoided, the IT College has disseminated useful information among its students. In addition to that, Ajman University has purchased and installed the Turnitin, a software tool to detect plagiarism automatically in electronic documents. Therefore, all students are kindly requested and advised to read about plagiarism and be aware of AUST’s related policies. For more information, please visit www.plagiarism.orm or www.turnitin.com.

‫ما هي نصيحتك وكلمتك األخيرة للطالب؟‬ ‫فرصة الدخول إلى اجلامعة تتيح للطالب فرصة التزود بالعلم واالهم من‬ ،‫ذلك القابلية على التفكير املنهجي في مجال التخصص الذي يدرسه‬ ‫فاملطلوب من الطالب استغالل هذه الفرصة وتطوير مهاراته لغرض‬ .‫املنافسة على فرص العمل املتوفرة‬

‫ما هو أول عمل شغلته؟‬ 1985-1977 ‫محلل أنظمة لشركة النفط الوطنية العراقية‬ ‫بعدها التحقت بدراسة املاجستير والدكتوراه وبعد انتهاء دراسة‬ .2000 ‫الدكتوراه انتقلت للعمل بجامعة النهرين ببغداد حتى عام‬ ‫متى التحقت بجامعة عجمان وبأي منصب؟‬ ‫ كعضو هيئة تدريس‬2000 ‫بدأت العمل في اجلامعة في شهر سبتمبر‬ .‫ والزلت‬2001 ‫ومن ثم عينت رئيسا لقسم علوم احلاسوب سنة‬

What are the difficulties you faced while you were a student?

During the study period there were no developed computers as now, to write the program and its implementation you need almost a full day.

What do you think of the university life at AUST?

Compared to the universities I studied in the difference lies in the nature of the European society, but academically there is no much difference.

What are your last researches and projects?

What are your hobbies?

I have different researches in the field of Artificial Intelligence such as: Genetic Algorithms, Fuzzy Logic, and Neural Networks.

I like reading and driving for long distances.

• Can you tell us about your funniest stances?

What was the first job you landed?

A systems analyst for the Iraqi National Oil Company, 19771985. Then I went to prepare my master’s and PhD, and I moved later to work at Al Nahreen University in Baghdad- Iraq until 2000.

How did you join Ajman University, and what was your first position?

I started working at the university in September 2000 as a

The most amusing was when I came to Ajman for the first time; I took a taxi and asked the driver to take me to the city center. He eventually dropped me near a police station called the city center.

• Do have a piece of advice to your students?

If a student has got the privilege to enter the university he should grab all possible chances to acquire knowledge, and more importantly, the ability to think systematically in the field of his/her specialization, so that they will develop their skills to get better job opportunities.
