Around the State: Masks still required in offices unless everyone vaccinated State regulators decided last week that Californians will have to continue wearing masks at work into early next year, unless everyone at the office is vaccinated. Meanwhile, California is still on target to drop most mandates in non-work settings on June 15. California’s average new case rate is the lowest it’s been in 14 months. As of 11:19 a.m., cases in California number 3,771,987. The statewide average for ICU bed availability was 34.1 percent& and 55.7 percent of Californians were at least partially vaccinated. Still, rural parts of Northern California are falling behind on vaccinations, and cases are beginning to rise. More counties have been moving to the state’s least-restrictive yellow tier, including Marin, Monterey, San Benito and Ventura last week. The tier system is set to be shuttered on June 15 when the state officially reopens.

For release: June 16, 2021 California home sales ease in May as statewide median price inches up to set another record, C.A.R. reports - Existing, single-family home sales totaled 445,660 in May on a seasonally adjusted annualized rate, down 2.7 percent from April and up 86.7 percent from May 2020. - May’s statewide median home price was $818,260, up 0.5 percent from April and up 39.1 percent from May 2020. - Year-to-date statewide home sales were up 34.6 percent in May. LOS ANGELES (June 16) – After months of breakneck market competition, California home sales moderated in May as buyer fatigue set in, while the median home price set another record high, the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS ® (C.A.R.) said today. Closed escrow sales of existing, single-family detached homes in California totaled a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 445,660 in May, according to information collected by C.A.R. from more than 90 local REALTOR® associations and MLSs statewide. The statewide annualized sales figure represents what would be the total number of homes sold during 2021 if sales maintained the May pace throughout the year. It is adjusted to account for seasonal factors that typically influence home sales. May home sales dipped 2.7 percent on a monthly basis from 458,170 in April and up 86.7 percent from a year ago, when 238,740 homes were sold on an annualized basis. The sharp yearly sales jump was expected as the housing market was hit hard by the pandemic shutdown last year, when home sales dropped to the lowest level since the Great Recession. “The overheated housing market is showing signs of a much-needed cooling and could be a sign of waning buyer interest as the torrid pace of home price increases and buyer fatigue adversely affected demand,” said C.A.R. President Dave Walsh. “We’re seeing many would-be buyers taking a break and hoping to see more listings as the economy reopens and prospective sellers list their homes for sale.” California’s median home price set another new record high in May as the statewide median price inched up 0.5 percent on a month-to-month basis to $818,260 in May, up from April’s revised $814,010 and up 39.1 percent from the $588,070 recorded last May. The year-over-year price gain was the highest ever recorded, and it was the second straight month that the state recorded an annual increase of over 30 percent. Robust demand of higher-priced properties contributed to the record-setting statewide median price. With million-dollar home sales surging more than 200 percent from May 2020, its market share is nearly double what it was a year ago when it was at 15.6 percent. More million-dollar properties were sold in the past couple of months than homes priced below $500,000. “A lack of housing inventory continues to push up prices, and modestly higher interest rates, increased competition, and declining affordability have caused some buyers to become discouraged. Despite strong growth rates, the level of home sales has fallen on a monthly basis in four of the last five months,” said C.A.R. Vice President and Chief Economist Jordan Levine. “Additionally, pending sales data for May, which was virtually unchanged from April, suggests further slowing in coming months. Fortunately, new listings have finally started to rise, which could help to sustain a higher level of home sales deeper into summer by providing much-needed supply.” Dickson Portola Team

Getting back to your pre-pandemic life? Remember to budget!

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. in March 2020, lockdowns and social distancing became the new way of life. With this drastic change, businesses were forced to close, traveling ceased and Americans had to adapt to spending the vast majority of their time at home. While this took a toll on businesses and individuals across the country, many would say that a silver lining of the pandemic was that they were able to save money without really trying. How The Pandemic Changed Spending Habits Across the U.S., the average individual's personal savings rate — the amount of money someone has left after their spending and taxation — soared to 32.2%, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, as reported by Next Advisor. This spike in savings can be attributed to stayat-home orders and social distancing. The pandemic forced many Americans to change their spending habits. People began eating and drinking more at home instead of at restaurants, while trading expensive outings for cheap hobbies. Now that Americans are getting vaccinated and businesses are opening once again, it looks like we will return to normalcy soon. With normalcy comes old spending habits, and you know what that means: Time to start budgeting again. Tips For Budgeting In Your PostPandemic Life For those of us who put budgeting on the back burner during the pandemic, it might be time for a refresher on budgeting tips.

Make A Plan For Dining Out Restaurants are open again, which is great! But that means coming up with a financial plan for eating out and going to bars. Decide how much money per month you can spend at bars and restaurants and hold yourself accountable for staying within your budget. It may be tempting to go on a bar crawl or restaurant tour every weekend now that it's an option again, but be careful. It's still important to make wise financial decisions. Save For Travel Plans If returning to normalcy means traveling again, good for you! Just make sure you make wise financial decisions. Start planning your trips as early as you can so you can begin saving gradually. Factor affordability into the destination as well as when you go. And keep in mind that there is more to the cost of a vacation than transportation and lodging — there's also dining, drinking, excursions and souvenirs. Track Your Spending One of the most important parts of budgeting is tracking your spending. You can limit the amount you spend every month all you want, but if you're still spending more than you're earning, your efforts may be in vain. Use an excel document or a notebook to document all of your purchases as well as all of the money you make. Calculate the difference every month to find out how much excess income you have. If you have way more than you anticipated, maybe you can afford to spend a little more on luxury purchases, or you can put it towards your retirement fund or paying off your debts. 18 Facts about 4th of July you probably don’t know One 4th of July fact that should come as a surprise to no one: The story we think we know of the colonies officially separating from Great Britain at the end of the Revolutionary War isn’t exactly accurate. 1. John Adams thought Independence Day should be celebrated on July 2 because that’s the day the Continental Congress officially declared its freedom from Great Britain. 2. The 4th of July doesn’t celebrate the signing of the Declaration, but the adoption of the Declaration by the Second Continental Congress. 3. On June 11, 1776, Congress appointed a Committee of Five to draft a Declaration of Independence. The committee members were John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman and, most famously, Thomas Jefferson.

10. The 4th of July didn’t become a federal holiday until 1970. 11. Three presidents have died on the 4th of July: Founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4, 1826, 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was adopted. They were the only signers of the Declaration who also became president. James Monroe died a few years later on July 4, 1831. 12. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president, was born on July 4, 1872. 13. The song “Yankee Doodle” was originally sung by the British army to make fun of Americans. 14. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the United States’ national bird, but John Adams and Thomas Jefferson recommended the bald eagle, which won the title. 15. Americans eat approximately 150 million hot dogs on the 4th of July. That’s enough to stretch from D.C. to Los Angeles more than five times.

Outdoor Recreation There is no better way to enjoy the beauty of Plumas County than by exploring it first-hand and on foot. Whether you take a leisurely stroll or a strenuous hike, you'll experience the magnificence of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges along an extensive system of hiking trails. Here's a look at some of the most accessible ones: Dogs are welcome (leash preferred) on all National Forest hiking trails. Within Plumas-Eureka State Park, dogs are only allowed on the Grass Lake trail, and dogs are not allowed on hiking trails in Lassen Volcanic National Park, although they are welcome in the parking lots, roads and road shoulders, campgrounds and picnic areas. About 80 miles of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) stretch across Plumas County, with elevations ranging from 2,400 to 7,000 feet. This famous west coast trail, open to foot and horseback traffic only, encompasses a total of 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. The Plumas County section can be accessed six miles west of Chester, at Belden in the Feather River Canyon, at Bucks Summit on Bucks Lake Road, off Big Creek Road near Bucks Lake, along the Quincy/La Porte Road, and in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. The communities of Chester and Quincy both welcome PCT hikers. Due to changes in the trail each year, the exact half-way point varies slightly, but is near Highway 36 just west of Chester. The Almanor Basin offers a myriad of hiking opportunities, including the paved Lake Almanor Recreation Trail that follows the west shore of the lake. The Almanor area also is close to some magnificent hikes within Lassen Volcanic National Park and the nearby Caribou Wilderness Area. Collins Pines Lumber Company has a short walk off the PCT on the north side of Highway 36 called Park 40 which offers a self-guided interpretive trail. The Feather River Canyon affords hikers the opportunity to hike near one of the most beautiful waterways in the state, as well as to marvel at many of man's engineering feats. In the Bucks Lake Wilderness Area, one trail follows the lake while another takes hikers to remote mountain lakes higher up. The Indian Valley area has self-guided nature walks pleasant for families and seniors, including the Round Valley Lake Nature Walk near Greenville and the short hike to spectacular Indian Falls. Indian Falls is about nine miles south of Greenville on Highway 89. It is worth a quick stop to walk to the fall. See why this was a special place for the Maidu Indians. Intermediate hiking trails are located off the road to Antelope Lake, including a trail between Antelope and Taylor Lakes. And be sure to check out the trails around the beautiful Heart K Ranch in Genesee Valley.

These are the most well-known and popular lakes for camping, fishing and hiking. Lake Almanor, at 4,500 feet elevation and with 52 miles of forested shoreline, is the county's largest lake, offering year-round fishing and spectacular views of majestic Lassen Peak.

Butt Valley Reservoir, near Lake Almanor, is widely known for camping and as a great fishery for trout. Round Valley Reservoir, located three miles above Greenville, is a warm water fishery containing bass and bluegill, and is a popular place to bring children because they're sure to make a catch. Antelope Lake, located 30 miles NE of the small town of Taylorsville in the Genesee Valley, is a popular camping and fishing spot. It sits at 5,000 feet in elevation and has 15 miles of shoreline.

Little Grass Valley Reservoir, 3 miles south of the community of La Porte, sits at just over 5,000 feet in elevation. It is hugely popular with campers and fishing enthusiasts in the summer, and snowmobile enthusiasts in the winter. Lake Davis, seven miles north of the City of Portola, sits at 5,800 feet in elevation and offers year-round activities. Camping, fishing (including an annual fishing derby) and hiking during the summer months, and a popular ice fishing tournament, sled-dog races and snowmobile poker runs in the winter. Nearby J&J’s Grizzly Store has just about anything you might need. Frenchman Lake is in the eastern end of the beautiful Sierra Valley. A high desert lake at 5,800 feet, it's nestled in the pines. Just out of Chilcoot, Frenchman is home to camping and fishing.

Bucks Lake, 17 miles southwest of Quincy, and at 5,200 feet in elevation, boasts 17 miles of shoreline, sandy beaches and tall pines. Bucks Lake attracts fishermen, campers, hikers and water sports enthusiasts in summer. Winter bring snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Gold Lake, in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, offers hiking, camping and fishing in the summer and draws snow sports enthusiasts in the winter. 6,400 feet in elevation.

39th Annual Fundraiser AGONY RIDE Christian Encounter Ranch is a domestic mission organization with the unique purpose of discipling and counseling troubled young people. These young people come to CER with major damage from families, society, and/or their own poor choices. As a domestic mission, we are dependent on the loving generosity of mission-minded ministry partners. .

Our annual Agony Ride is an opportunity for our partners to participate in this vital mission. Some of our staff and approximately ninety other riders attempt to push their limits by riding as far as they can in 24 hours

FRIDAY, JULY 23, 2021 9:00 a.m. Arrive at the Loyalton Elementary School (see Route Map). Unload your equipment and get ready for signin and meetings. If SAG helpers drive up with you, have them drop you off at the school then go to their assigned stations for their SAG meetings and setup. Sign-in, turn in sponsorships, and receive bike/bag tags and safety vest. 11:00 a.m. Pre-ride meal. It is very important that you eat and drink before the ride begins. You may want to bring something to snack on throughout the morning. Some snacks will be provided at registration. 11:30 a.m. Mandatory Rider Meeting. Important lastminute instructions will be given. You must be on time! The meeting will be held in the cafeteria, so you may continue to eat your pre-ride meal. 12:30 p.m. Change clothes, make final preparations, and rest. 1:00 p.m. The ride starts promptly from the Loyalton Elementary School. The distances between SAG stations are 12 and 13 miles. SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2021 1:00 p.m. The ride ends no matter where you are. Stop riding. You and your bike will be picked up and transported back to the Loyalton SAG station by an official sweep vehicle. 1:15 p.m. CER will provide a complimentary Victory Meal for all riders and saggers at the Loyalton Elementary School. Plan to stay for this meal to find out how far others rode and how much money was raised.

Pints For Pups July17th 2021 4-8pm The Brewing Lair in Blairsden, CA. has been a supporter of High Sierra Animal Rescue for many years. Every summer our rescue puts on a fun, easy going event at their brewery in order to raise life-saving funds for our dogs. In 2020, Susan and Rich were kind enough to support our rescue with an online fundraiser. We are so excited to announce that Pints for Pups will be happening in person this year! For every pint sold Susan and Rich will donate $2 Food:
